Here are some: The Peregrine By John A. Baker, UK In 1965, he focused on peregrine falcons (游隼), tracking a pair in eastern England, documenting their lives. He details well, and his descriptions are poetic. His book is “full of the drama of the everyday”. The bird’s most exciting moments, like fast flying and hunting prey, are brought to life by Baker. It’s an important 20th-century nature writing book, showing patience, passion and observation matter. Seeing Trees: Discover the Extraordinary Secrets of Everyday Trees By Nancy R. Hugo, US Nancy R. Hugo shows you that there’s much more to a tree than what meets the eye. By looking at 10 commonly seen tree species, Hugo opens up the world of trees from “head” to “toe”, including their leaves, flowers, buds, leaf scars, twigs, and bark. “Trees can be hard to understand,” Hugo writes in her book. She shows you how to look beyond the leaves to find often overlooked features, such as a tree’s flowers and fruits. Written in easy-to-understand language, Hugo offers readers strategies to kick-start their tree watching hobby. Living as a Naturalist By Liu Huajie, China Living as a Naturalist invites you into the world of plants. This book makes natural history easy to access and attractive. It gives us a new perspective, one that allows us to more deeply recognize nature and our interaction with it. The book brings together traditional Chinese ideas on knowing about animals and nature with information on famous natural history figures. This is all done with an amusing and appealing writing style. The book also includes beautiful images of plants and animals. 21. What is the main focus of John A. Baker’s book The Peregrine? A. The daily life of peregrine falcons. B. The brief history of peregrine falcons. C. The migration patterns of peregrine falcons. D. The conservation efforts for peregrine falcons. 22. What can readers know in Nancy’s book? A. Trees’ leaves are the main focus. B. Trees are more than what they are seen. C. Ways are shown to look beyond features. D. Strategies are offered to analyse samples. 23. What can be the writing style of Living as a Naturalist? A. It is serious and formal. B. It is humorous and engaging. C. It is brief and amusing. D. It is casual and emotional. A 22. B 23. 根据第一部分“In 1965, he focused on peregrine falcons (游隼), tracking a pair in eastern England, documenting their lives. He details well, and his descriptions are poetic. His book is “full of the drama of the everyday”.(1965年,他开始关注游隼,在英格兰东部追踪一对游隼,记录它们的生活。他详述得很好,他的描述富有诗意。他的书“充满了日常生活的戏剧性”)”可知,The Peregrine一书的主要焦点是游隼的日常生活。故选A。 根据第二部分“Nancy R. Hugo shows you that there’s much more to a tree than what meets the eye. By looking at 10 commonly seen tree species, Hugo opens up the world of trees from “head” to “toe”, including their leaves, flowers, buds, leaf scars, twigs, and bark.( Nancy R. Hugo告诉你,一棵树比你看到的要复杂得多。通过观察10种常见的树种,Hugo打开了树木的世界,从“头”到“脚”,包括它们的叶子、花、芽、叶痕、细枝和树皮)”可知,在Nancy的书中,读者会知道树木远不止所见到的那样。故选B。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“This is all done with an amusing and appealing writing style.(这一切都是用一种有趣和吸引人的写作风格完成的)”可知,Living as a Naturalist的写作风格是幽默且吸引人。故选B。 B Although it happened over 10 years ago, I still remember the moment clearly. I had ordered a drink at a mall in Beijing. When it was ready, the server handed me a cup with laowai written on it, meaning “foreigner”. It was my second day in China, and this marked the first of countless occasions when I would be called or labeled a laowai in public. So, what does it feel like to be called a laowai? As someone who doesn’t like being in the spotlight, walking down the street and suddenly hearing someone say to their friend, “Look, a laowai”, is not the most enjoyable experience. It’s safe to say that most people wouldn’t appreciate a stranger commenting out loud on their appearance, like saying “tall guy” or “big head”. It just makes you feel embarrassed and draws unnecessary attention. As much as I dislike being singled out, I also try to understand the context. China is a fairly homogenous country — not an immigrant nation like Australia, where I’m from. So, for many Chinese people, seeing a foreigner is still a big deal. When I’m in a place in China with few foreigners, even I sometimes can’t help but point out to my friends that there’s another foreigner nearby. I just make sure to do it carefully! My Chinese friends also tell me that laowai is a more welcoming term than waiguoren because lao adds a touch of respect and friendship. But in some ways, I find it hard to overlook the wai part, which means outsider. In Australia, we wouldn’t call people “outsiders” or “foreigners” like that. We’d either say “immigrant” or more specifically, refer to the country they come from. That said, of all the countless times I’ve been called laowai, I’ve never felt it came from a place of rudeness or disrespect. And upon reflection, my frustration at being called a laowai shows me how much China means to me. The longer I live here, the more China feels like home, and the more I just want to “fit in”. And that, I think, is something beautiful. 24. How did the author feel when being called laowai in public? A. Awkward. B. Indifferent. C. Proud. D. Angry. 25. The word “homogenous” in the third paragraph is closest in meaning to ______ . A. Uniform. B. Diverse. C. Populated. D. Developed. 26. Which of the following would the author most agree with? A. Australia has the most immigrants. B. Australians are usually direct and open. C. Australians call “immigrants” “foreigners”. D. Australians are used to living with different cultures. 27. What can we infer from the text? A. The author thinks laowai is a rude term. B. The author hopes to be fully accepted in China. C. The author has lived in China for less than 10 years. D. The author hates being in China due to being called. A 25. A 26. D 27. 根据第二段中“As someone who doesn’t like being in the spotlight, walking down the street and suddenly hearing someone say to their friend, ‘Look, a laowai’, is not the most enjoyable experience. (对于一个不喜欢成为众人焦点的人来说,走在街上时,突然听到有人对其朋友说:“看,一个老外”,这可不是什么令人愉快的经历。)”以及“It just makes you feel embarrassed and draws unnecessary attention. (这只会让你感到尴尬,还会招来不必要的关注。)”可知,作者被当众称呼“老外”时感觉很尴尬。故选A。 根据第三段中划线词后文“not an immigrant nation like Australia, where I’m from. So, for many Chinese people, seeing a foreigner is still a big deal. (不像我来自的澳大利亚那样是个移民国家。所以,对很多中国人来说,看到外国人仍然是件挺稀罕的事儿。) ”可推测出中国是一个相对同质性高的国家,也就是比较统一、同类的情况多。homogenous意为“统一的,一致的”。A. 故选A。 根据第三段中“China is a fairly homogenous country — not an immigrant nation like Australia, where I’m from. (中国是一个相对homogenous国家——不像我来自的澳大利亚那样是个移民国家。)” 以及第四段中“In Australia, we wouldn’t call people “outsiders” or “foreigners” like that. We’d either say “immigrant” or more specifically, refer to the country they come from. (在澳大利亚,我们不会那样称呼别人为“外来者”或“外国人”。我们要么会说 “移民”,要么更具体地指出他们来自哪个国家。)”可推断出澳大利亚是习惯与不同文化共处的,有移民等多元情况,因此作者最有可能同意澳大利亚人习惯与不同文化共处的表达。故选D。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The longer I live here, the more China feels like home, and the more I just want to “fit in”. (我在这里住得越久,中国就越让我感觉像家,我就越想“融入”。)”可知,作者希望能完全被中国所接纳,融入其中。故选B。 C Korean researchers have developed adrone designed to stay level when transporting goods over many kinds of surfaces. A team at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SNUST) built a prototype, or test model of the drone (无人机) with multiple propellers (螺旋桨). The team recently showed the aircraft for reporters from Reuters. Members of the development team showed how the drone can maintain itself level while floating, even when transporting goods up or down stairs. The drone has a handle workers can push to guide it where it needs to go. Leaders of the research say the drone is programmed to predict human actions for effective interactions. Lee Seung-jae, the leader of the project, is a professor of mechanical system design engineering at SNUST. Lee told Reuters tests of the drone showed it could transport objects up to 3 kilograms. He admitted this weight restriction likely limits the drone’s use cases for many businesses. But he noted that the transporter’s design and operating equipment could be used to create a series of other kinds of drone vehicles. Lee said one example would be to use the transporter to carry sensitive or breakable materials. The technology could also be used to develop “flying taxis” to transport humans, he added. When used in a flying taxi, the drones could be used to change batteries while still flying in the air, instead of having to return to a ground station for recharging. In general, experts say drones with multiple propellers are easier to control and move in many different settings. But they are also slower and cannot travel as far on a battery charge. Drones with multiple propellers have already been used to transport small amounts of goods, food and medical supplies. But experts say it is difficult to widely apply such drones for commercial (商业的) purposes. This is because such activities would require larger batteries a smaller aircraft could not support. 28. What function does the drone developed by SNUST have? A. It can only fly on flat surfaces. B. It requires a human pilot to operate. C. It can assist people in delivering stuff. D. It can only carry goods up to 30 kilograms. 29. What did the development team show to Reuters reporters? A. The drone’s ability to fly at high speeds. B. The drone’s ability to predict human actions. C. The drone’s ability to keep itself level as floating. D. The drone’s ability to recharge its battery in the air. 30. What can be inferred about the potential application of the drone? A. It might be limited to indoor use only. B. It could be designed for commercial purposes. C. It may be suitable for long-distance goods transportation. D. It could be used to transport things requiring special attention. 31. What might be a challenge for expanding the commercial use of such drones? A. The drones’ use in different settings. B. No qualification for commercial use. C. The limited amounts of transported goods. D. The need for small-sized aircrafts to bear larger batteries. C 29. C 30. D 31. 根据第一段中“Korean researchers have developed adrone designed to stay level when transporting goods over many kinds of surfaces.(韩国研究人员开发了一款无人机,设计用于在运输货物时保持水平,适用于多种表面)”及第三段中“Lee told Reuters tests of the drone showed it could transport objects up to 3 kilograms.(李告诉路透社,对无人机的测试表明,它可以运输重达3公斤的物体)”可知,SNUST研制的无人机可以帮助人们运送东西。 根据第二段中“Members of the development team showed how the drone can maintain itself level while floating, even when transporting goods up or down stairs.(开发团队的成员展示了无人机如何在漂浮时保持自身水平,甚至在上下楼梯运输货物时也是如此)”可知,开发团队向路透社记者展示了无人机保持自身水平漂浮的能力。 根据倒数第三段“Lee said one example would be to use the transporter to carry sensitive or breakable materials.(李说,其中一个例子是使用这种运输工具运送敏感或易碎的材料)”可知,无人机可以用来运输需要特别注意的东西。 根据最后一段“But experts say it is difficult to widely apply such drones for commercial (商业的) purposes. This is because such activities would require larger batteries a smaller aircraft could not support.(但专家表示,要广泛将这类无人机应用于商业目的存在困难。这是因为这样的活动需要更大的电池,而小型飞机无法支撑这样的电池)”可知,扩大这种无人机的商业用途可能面临的挑战是小型飞机需要承载更大的电池。故选D。 D A new joint study conducted by researchers from China, the UK, Canada, Switzerland and Germany has found that the situation of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) is becoming worse due to global warming. The study was published in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment on Tuesday. Because of global warming, glaciers are melting and retreating. When glacier meltwater is blocked by glaciers, ice moraine (冰碛), or bedrock, ice lakes form in front of the ice, on the ice edge, on the ice surface, within the ice, or under the ice. Ice lakes may cause GLOFs, according to Zhang Guoqing, a researcher from the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a co-author of the study. Conducting a comprehensive study of the global distribution, formation time, and physical characteristics of ice lakes is crucial for relieving the damage caused by GLOFs in downstream communities, Zhang noted. Previous ice lake studies have been more singular, focusing on specific types of ice lakes or specific mountain areas. There has been a lack of global systematic study of the characteristics and changes of ice lakes and GLOFs, according to Zhang. In the study, researchers synthesized (综合) global changes in glacial lakes and GLOFs. More than 110,000 glacial lakes currently exist, covering a total area of around 15,000 square kilometers. This area has increased roughly 22 percent per decade from 1990 to 2020. More than 10 million people are exposed to the impacts of GLOFs, which are also associated with dam failure. Ongoing deglaciation and lake expansion is expected to increase the frequency of GLOFs, according to the study. There are big regional differences, the researchers concluded. In high mountain areas of Asia, GLOFs damage is expected to triple by 2100, but the potential risk in the Western European Alps and Cordillera Blanca Mountains in Peru is relatively low. Iceland may experience volcanic activity in the future, leading to large-scale GLOFs, the report said. The report called for future research to acquire field data on lakes and dams, coordinate (协调) multi-period lake mapping, and model GLOFs efficiently for comprehensive damage assessment and response planning. 32. What do we know about GLOFs? A It may be brought about by ice lakes. B. It is mainly caused by human activities. C. Climate change contributes to its formation. D. There has been adequate systematic study about it. 33. Why is a comprehensive study of ice lakes important? A. To understand the power of GLOFs. B. To decrease the frequency of GLOFs. C. To prevent the damage caused by GLOFs. D. To reduce the harm of GLOFs in downstream areas. 34. Which statement is true about the future of GLOFs? A. Its damage is expected to be triple by 2100. B. Many aspects need to be taken into account in its future research. C. There will be a larger scale of GLOFs because of volcanic activity. D. Its potential damage can be greatly reduced based on its future research. 35. What does this passage mainly talk about? A. The formation of GLOFs. B. The effects of human activities on ice lakes. C. The growing risk of GLOFs. D. The connection between global warming and GLOFs. A 33. D 34. B 35. 故选A项。 根据第三段中“Conducting a comprehensive study of the global distribution, formation time, and physical characteristics of ice lakes is crucial for relieving the damage caused by GLOFs in downstream communities (全面研究冰湖的全球分布、形成时间和物理特征,对于缓解GLOFs对下游社区造成的破坏至关重要)”可知,对冰湖进行全面研究,对减少GLOFs对下游地区的危害具有重要意义。 根据最后一段“The report called for future research to acquire field data on lakes and dams, coordinate (协调) multi-period lake mapping, and model GLOFs efficiently for comprehensive damage assessment and response planning. Chinese are very generous when it comes to educating their children. Not caring about the money, parents often want to send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States and Australia. ____36____ The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend an unreasonable amount of money on education. ____37____ However, what most parents fail to see is that the best early education given to their children is usually very cheap. ____38____ Some children are very skilled in some areas while poor in others. What most parents fail to realize though, is that today’s children are badly off for self-respect and self-confidence. The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take multiple — choice tests and how to study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills that they need to be confident, happy and clever. ____39____ For example, teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking requires patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully step by step. The result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and lots of self-confidence. Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse his interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to repair them. ____40____ These activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but rather to think, to use his mind. And that is more important. A. Parents can see that their children’s skills differ. B. Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills. C. The more cost in education, the better the result will be. D. Your child might become an engineer when he grows up. E. Thus, parents usually think computers are more convenient for kids’ learning. F. Not caring about the money, parents often want to send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States and Australia.(中国人在教育孩子方面非常慷慨。父母往往不关心钱,想把孩子送到最好的学校,甚至出国去英国、美国和澳大利亚)”以及后文“The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend an unreasonable amount of money on education.(中国人认为教育越贵越好。 【37题详解】 根据上文“The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend an unreasonable amount of money on education.(中国人认为教育越贵越好。 【38题详解】 根据后文“Some children are very skilled in some areas while poor in others. Cooking requires patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully step by step. The result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and lots of self-confidence.(例如,教孩子做饭会提高他以后生活中需要的许多技能。 【40题详解】 根据上文“Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse his interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to repair them.(一些旧的机器,如坏了的收音机或电视机,你给你的孩子玩会使他好奇,引起他的兴趣。 Last week, just after reaching the Everest peak, the 55-year-old Christopher collapsed and ____41____, along with at least other 11 people reported to have lost their lives this year. An old and weak woman approached a very busy crossroads, waiting for the right moment to cross the street. Seeing a continuous streams of cars zipping by like silver bullets, she hesitated at the sidewalk’s edge, holding a heavy bucket filled with red apples. Fear gripped her heart as she thought about the apples would scatter (散落) all over the place. She held the bucket more tightly, her knuckles (指关节) turning white. The crossroads before her seemed like an impossible challenge, with the traffic lights changing rhythmically yet the cars never seeming to end. Most drivers were in a rush, their impatient expressions visible through the windshields. The old woman knew she had to cross the street to reach her destination, a small store on the other side, where she sold her apples to make ends meet. As she slowly made her way to the crosswalk, her fingers held the handle of the bucket hard. A kind-hearted driver in the first car recognized her struggle, stopped well before the sidewalk, and allowed her to cross safely and slowly. Witnessing this moving situation, the woman was grateful for this act of kindness. The old woman nodded and offered a weak smile as she slowly moved forward. A second car, in the neighboring lane (车道), also came to a stop, and its driver noticing the old woman’s slow progress too. The kindness of strangers warmed her heart and brightened her day. As the old woman progressed further into the road, a speeding car approached. The driver had not noticed her until the very last moment. With a sudden wave of fear, the old woman’s hold on the bucket loosened, and the apples scattered in all directions. The car made a sudden stop, and the driver’s heart pounded in his chest as he realized how close he had come to a terrible accident. Seeing the almost hit woman and the scattered apples, the first two drivers rushed out of their cars. Among the growing traffic buildup, the third driver got out car immediately to join them. Their hands move quickly to collect each one. The rush of traffic seemed to slow as onlookers caught sight of the scene, their impatience momentarily forgotten. Eventually, all the apples were collected, and the three drivers helped the old lady to her feet. With a supportive arm on either side, she made her way back to the safety of the side walk. Tears welled up in her grateful eyes as she looked at the strangers who had come to her aid. B Although it happened over 10 years ago, I still remember the moment clearly. C Korean researchers have developed adrone designed to stay level when transporting goods over many kinds of surfaces. D The drone’s ability to recharge its battery in the air. D A new joint study conducted by researchers from China, the UK, Canada, Switzerland and Germany has found that the situation of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) is becoming worse due to global warming. A. It may be brought about by ice lakes. F. For instance, even poor couples will buy a computer for their son or daughter. G. They also want their children to take extra-course activities to get a head start in life. Last week, just after reaching the Everest peak, the 55-year-old Christopher collapsed and ____41____, along with at least other 11 people reported to have lost their lives this year. The steps under her feet seemed lighter and with their patience, she moved another step closer to her destination. However, the third lane was a different story. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seeing the almost hit old woman and the scattered apples, the first two drivers rushed out of their cars. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
