A young man had bought an old house that was in bad shape, but he and his wife believed they could restore it. They immediately went to work. Their goal was to have the old building look best for New Year’s Eve gettogether. Just two days before New Year, however, a storm swept through the area, leaving a hole in the wall of the house. There was obviously no time to repair the damage before New Year. Then, the sad couple attended a local auction (拍卖) that afternoon. One of the items put up for bids was an old gold and ivory colored tablecloth. Seized by an inspiration, the young man was the highest bidder at $6.50. His idea was to hang the cloth to cover the ragged hole. On the day before New Year, it was snowy. As the young man unlocked the house door, he noticed an old woman standing at the bus stop. He knew the bus wouldn’t be there within at least half an hour, so he invited her inside to keep warm. When the woman walked in and saw the tablecloth, she rushed at it and said excitedly, “It’s mine. It is my tablecloth.” She told the surprised man its history and even showed him her name in one corner of the tablecloth. She and her husband had once lived in Vienna, Austria, and their village was hit by a deadly disease. So they decided to flee to Switzerland, but her husband told her to leave first, saying he had something urgent to deal with. A few days later, it was reported that the bus her husband took fell off the cliff (悬崖) and he was never to be found. Her husband was believed to have died. Touched by her story, the young couple asked about her address, planning to send the tablecloth to her after New Year. As the bus came, she left. In the candlelight of New Year’s Eve, the tablecloth looked even more beautiful. As the man’s friends left the house, they thanked the man for his arrangement and mentioned how beautiful the house looked. Paragraph 1: One old gentleman stayed, admiring the tablecloth. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The young man drove the old man to that old woman’s home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. After watching my son Todd run in a race, I made my usual comment, “Todd, I can walk faster than those women run.” Todd laughed as he knew I wasn’t a runner. “Mom, how about you running with me next year in this race?” Without thinking, I quickly accepted this challenge. I felt this was going to be a piece of cake! When it was almost time for the race to occur the next year, Todd had been in hospital for a long time because of a car accident. Todd and my friends started to encourage me to run the race. I decided I should keep my promise to Todd and run the race. The first thing I did was go out and buy some running clothes. I might as well look good even though I hadn’t trained at all. The day of the race came. I wished Todd could be there with me, but I had to start off alone. It wasn’t long before some racers started to run next to me and talk to me. I wouldn’t like to talk because I wanted to focus on my running. However, one guy was very talkative. He kept saying how tired he was, and that I must be tired too. He talked on and on. The race was over and this guy’s wife won! I didn’t mind this result. I was just happy to finish the race and keep my promise to Todd. Todd asked about the race when I went to the hospital. I told him what had happened and how this guy would not stop his negative talk. Todd laughed and set me straight, “Don’t you know what this guy was doing? He thought you were the competitor by the way you were dressed. He wanted his wife to win.” Only then did I figure out the truth, so I decided to continue taking part in the race the next year; I wanted to win this time. The following year I did train. I even bought some tapes called “Win at Sports” and listened to them daily. These tapes gave ideas about staying behind and knowing when to make your move.Paragraph 1: When it was time for the race, I was all dressed and ready.     ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I stayed behind this guy’s wife in almost the whole race. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. Our house has been noisier since my new stepsister and stepmother — Jen and Mom — moved in. I called her Mom, but the word made me feel uncomfortable, like wearing a pair of shoes that pinched (夹脚). I didn’t remember my own mother; she died in an accident when I was a baby. It had always been just Dad and me. But so much changed. Sometimes I wished I had magic to change it back. I heard Dad’s footsteps upstairs. “Do you want to take Jen skating?” he asked. “I guess so.” I sighed, thinking about how Dad and I usually spent the weekends going fishing. That was my favorite activity. But this year, Dad was too busy helping Mom cook. “Thanks,” Dad said and put his arm around my shoulders. “We’ll make a snowman later,” he promised. “Yeah,” I agreed, not too sure we’d have time. Mom handed us some homemade cookies with a smiling face as we grabbed our skates. I had to admit Mom came up with good ideas sometimes. Even though I liked that, I still couldn’t help but feel as if she were changing everything. “No, thanks, I’m not hungry.” I said. “Ready?” I asked Jen. She nodded, and we headed out the front door. The snow crunched (嘎吱作响) under our boots as we walked down the street. The silence was awkward. “Did you go skating a lot last year?” I asked, blurting out (脱口而出) the first thing that came to my mind. Jen shook her head and looked at me. Finally she said, “On the weekends, Mom and I always went to visit some friends on a farm. I especially loved seeing the cute rabbits.” Before that, I’d never even thought about how Jen may be feeling. She not only had a new stepfather and stepbrother, but also had a new town and home. Jen used to live near a lake, but had to move to the north with us. She had more changes than me. Paragraph 1: Suddenly, I didn’t feel quite sorry for myself. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: We were so busy making the snow rabbit that we didn’t hear our parents come outside. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out. He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business. I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man. The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home. When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 6 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Future Imagination In the future, my city will be a wonderful place. With the reform and opening-up policy and the support of our government, great changes have taken place here. Now, we live in tall buildings, and many people have bought their own cars. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: One old gentleman stayed, admiring the tablecloth. At the same time, he said to the young man, “What a coincidence, many years ago my wife and I also owned such a tablecloth. But we lived in Vienna then.” On hearing these words, the young man told the old man about his encounter with the old woman in the house that snowy day.“Can it be true that she is alive?” asked the old man, tears streaming down his cheeks. “How can I find her?” Fortunately, the young man remembered her address. Paragraph 2: The young man drove the old man to that old woman’s home. Together they knocked on her apartment door. When she opened it, both of them recognized each other immediately. Obviously, they were too surprised and excited to express themselves. With trembling hands, they hugged tightly. “I was told you had died. How did you find me?” the old woman said. “Thanks to that magical tablecloth,” the old man replied. The young man witnessed the tearful, joyful and thrilling reunion of the husband and wife. 1】On hearing these words, the young man told the old man about his encounter with the old woman in the house that snowy day.(运用了On hearing… 2】When she opened it, both of them recognized each other immediately.(运用了连词when引导的时间状语从句) 2. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1:     When it was time for the race, I was all dressed and ready. After a lot of practice, it was time to face this challenge again. Paragraph 2: I stayed behind this guy’s wife in almost the whole race. At first, I kept her in view. I didn’t run past her but stayed close behind. Then I saw the guy! He was along with his wife and kept reminding his wife, “Watch out! She’s right behind you.” I could tell that his wife was very tired while I felt very good. So I was confident I could win. Getting close to the finishing line, I sped up and ran past her. I won! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: Suddenly, I didn’t feel quite sorry for myself. She seemed sad, so I decided to do something to cheer her up. “I have a better idea,” I said enthusiastically. “Come on — let’s start back.” “OK,” agreed Jen, with a smile on her face. Ten minutes later, Jen and I put our skates on the front porch and went to the backyard. I told her we could make a big snow rabbit. “This is going to be great,” Jen said, grinning at me with rosy cheeks. Paragraph 2: We were so busy making the snow rabbit that we didn’t hear our parents come outside. “It’s the biggest snow rabbit I’ve ever seen.” said Mom. A moment later, all of us were all busy working together on our giant creation. When our snow rabbit was finished, Mom said to me. “Thanks for cheering Jen up. You’re a good brother, and you come up with a great idea.” A happy feeling spread through me. I had never thought we could be so happy together before. Actually, sometimes our attitude toward changes makes a big difference to our life. 笑:grin at/smile at/give sb. a grateful smile ②使某人高兴:cheer sb. up/make sb. happy/bring pleasure to sb. ③想出:come up with/it occurs to sb. 情绪类 ①悲伤:sad/unhappy/upset/sorrowful ②热情:enthusiastically/passionately/with enthusiasm 【点睛】[高分句型1] Jen said, grinning at me with rosy cheeks.(现在分词做伴随状语) [高分句型2] It’s the biggest snow rabbit I’ve ever seen.(强调句,It’s…that I’ve even seen是高频句型,表示“我所见过的最……”) 4. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. I told her I hadn’t had lunch because I’d been waiting here for help for nearly three hours. The girl said they didn’t have lunch either. She suggested to her parents that we have lunch together. Their truck happened to have some food and some things for the picnic. So we ate together in a vacant lot by the side of the road. During that time, I told about what had happened to me and how I felt. They shared interesting stories about their lives in Mexico and on fruit farms. After lunch, the girl’s mother put a paper bag of fruit in my jeep. I showed my gratitude again and we said goodbye to each other.     After they left, I got into my jeep and opened the paper bag. There are some delicate fruits in the paper bag. I was surprised to find the money I had quietly left them. At the same time, there was a note written by a girl, which read “We are very happy to be able to help you. We have encountered many difficulties and been disappointed. But we met a lot of helpful people, which made us feel very warm. To help others with one’s own ability is also a kind of lifting a finger. The beauty of life comes from these lifting a finger. I hope you have a good life and a happy mood.” This made me very moved, and I would try my best to help more people in the future to make our world more beautiful and warmer. 词汇激活行为类 ①吃午餐:have lunch/It's time for lunch/eat lunch ②交流:communicate/talk/chat ③回家:go home/return home/be home/come back home/get home ④发现:find/discover/find out/spot 情绪类 ①感谢:showing one’s appreciation/show one’s gratitude/be grateful ②积极:positive attitude/act positively 【点睛】[高分句型1] I told her I hadn’t had lunch because I’d been waiting here for help for nearly three hours.(由because引导的原因状语从句) [高分句型2].But we met a lot of helpful people, which made us feel very warm.(由关系代词which引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型3] To help others with one’s own ability is also a kind of lifting a finger.(不定式做主语) ( 14 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!
