When I was young, I loved paper cutting and I was pretty good at it. As I grew up, I became busy and didn’t have much time for it. Later, I stopped doing it.
However, the news I came across online touched my heart and changed my mind. A little girl from Jieyang, Guangdong was practicing lion dance when a professional lion dance performance team (专业舞狮表演队) passed by. As soon as they saw the girl practicing, they started to beat drums and gongs for her and quickly she did a lion dance in return. People around all cheered for her. Her love for the ancient Chinese culture evoked my strong memories of paper cutting.
I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club. When I was ten, I joined the paper cutting club. Every Monday and Friday, I learned to make paper cuttings there. Our teacher, Ms. Li, was very talented. With a pair of scissors and a piece of paper, she could create lively works (作品). That amazed us. And we learned much from her. Together, we created lots of works. They covered many topics, including animals, flowers and things about Chinese history. Every time we held a paper cutting show, our works attracted many visitors. The girl in the news encouraged me to go on with paper cutting. I want to be an inheritor (继承者) of the ancient Chinese culture. Together with other inheritors, I hope to pass down our excellent culture.
24. What did the girl do after the team began to beat drums and gongs for her?
A. She watched their show carefully. B. She did a lion dance in return.
C. She cheered for the team. D. She made a paper cutting for the team.

A. brought back B. took away C. cut off D. depended on

A. The long history of paper cutting.
B. The steps of making paper cuttings.
C. The writer’s happy times of making paper cuttings.
D. The writer’s plans for setting up a paper cutting club.
27. Which of the following is TRUE?

B. Now the writer practices paper cutting twice a week.

第二段提到“As soon as they saw the girl practicing, they started to beat drums and gongs for her and quickly she did a lion dance in return.”(他们一看到女孩在练习,就开始为她敲锣打鼓,很快她就跳了一个舞狮作为回报。)
划线词后第三段提到“I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club.”(我记得在俱乐部里和老师、朋友们一起做剪纸的快乐时光。) A. brought back使回忆起;B. took away拿走;C. cut off切断;中断;D. depended on依靠。 故选A。
第三段提到“I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club.”(我记得在俱乐部里和老师、朋友们一起做剪纸的快乐时光。)

It may come as a shock to owners, but dogs hate being hugged, a study has shown.
Animal psychologists say dogs feel stressed and unhappy when they are hugged by their owners, because it stops them being able to run away.
In a study which analyzed 25 pictures of dogs as they were being hugged, eight out of ten animals looked clearly uncomfortable.
Experts at The Kennel Club, and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, also agreed that owners should not treat their dogs like children, because most pets did not like to be hugged.
The new study was carried out by Dr Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia. He analysed images of dogs being hugged by adults and children he found on the Internet, looking for signs of stress.
At an extreme end, when a dog is especially anxious it shows its teeth or may bite, but Dr Coren said there are other signs that it may be uncomfortable but they are small and not obvious.
Signs of stress include the dog folding its ears down, half- moon eyes or turning its head away to avoid eye contact. If the dog has its eyes closed, it could also be a sign of anxiety. Open its mouth or raising one paw is another warning sign.
“The clear suggestion to come out of this research is to save your hugs for your two- footed family members and lovers.”
It is clearly better from the dog’s point of view if you express your fondness for your pet with a pat, a kind word, rand maybe a treat.
Some people think that giving their dog a hug is a nice thing to do, but the reality is that a family pet will often tolerate a hug but doesn’t like it.
“On the whole dogs are sociable animals and love communicating with people, but any action that restricts a dog’s movement could make them uncomfortable and it is important for an owner to recognize the signs of stress or anxiety.”
28. According to the study, what might a dog not feel when it is being hugged?
A. Stressed. B. Uncomfortable. C. Shocked. D. Unhappy.
29. Which of the following is not the sign of stress for dogs?

Hollywood may have warned about the risks of striking up relationships with artificial intelligence, but one computer scientist says we may be missing a trick if we do not embrace the positives that human-machine relationships have to offer.
Tony Prescott, professor of cognitive robotics at the University of Sheffield, argues that AI has an important role to play in preventing human loneliness. Just as we develop meaningful bonds with pets, and have no reservations about children playing with dolls, so should we be open to the value of AI to adults, he says.
“Human loneliness is often characterised by a down ward spiral (螺旋线) in which isolation leads to lower self-esteem (自尊), which discourages further interaction with people,” Prescott writes in a new book. The Psychology of Artificial Intelligence. “There may be ways in which AI companionship could help break this cycle by boosting feelings of self-worth and helping maintain or improve social skills. If so, relationships with AIs could support people to find companionship with human and artificial others.”
With more than a third of Americans reporting “serious loneliness,” the loneliness problem has become evident in recent years. Whether AI can, or should, be part of the solution is not a new debate. Sherry Turkle, professor of social science at MIT, has warned that forming relationships with machines could backfire, and lead people to have fewer secure and fulfilling human relationships.
Murali Doraiswamy, professor of medicine at Duke University, said: “Right now, all the evidence points to having a close human friend as the best solution for loneliness. But until society prioritizes social connectedness, robots are a solution for the millions of people who have no friends.”
Researchers may soon know whether people turn to AI for company. Tech firms are building chatbots to be ever more fluent and responsive to emotions. This week, it emerged that OpenAI asked Scarlett Johansson to be the voice of their latest chatbot, GPT-4o, to “help consumers to feel comfortable”. Johansson declined, but the chatbot was released with a voice that friends and family thought was hers. OpenAI has since suspended (中止) the voice option “out of respect for Ms Johansson”.
32. What do the pets and dolls mentioned in Paragraph 2 help illustrate?
A. The limitations of human-AI relationships in daily life.
B. The potential for AI to provide similar companionship.
C. The possibility for AI to replace traditional companions.
D. The overestimation of AI’s role in ending human loneliness.
33. What do the underlined words “this cycle” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The repeated use of AI and others for companionship.
B. The consistent failure of human relationships with AI.
C. The process of developing human self-worth and social skills.
D. The pattern of isolation, lower self-esteem and further isolation.
34. Who expresses concern that AI companionship could weaken human connections?
A. Tony Prescott. B. Sherry Turkle.
C. Murali Doraiswamy. D. Scarlett Johansson.
35. Which central question does the text mainly explore?
A. Could AI contribute to increased loneliness?
B. Will AI companionship replace human interaction?
C. Can AI be used as an effective solution for loneliness?
D. Is AI companionship preferable to traditional relationships?
B 33. D 34. B 35. C
根据第二段“Tony Prescott, professor of cognitive robotics at the University of Sheffield, argues that AI has an important role to play in preventing human loneliness. Just as we develop meaningful bonds with pets, and have no reservations about children playing with dolls, so should we be open to the value of AI to adults, he says.(University of Sheffield认知机器人教授Tony Prescott认为,人工智能在防止人类孤独感方面发挥着重要作用。他说,就像我们与宠物建立起有意义的纽带,对孩子玩洋娃娃毫无保留一样,我们也应该对人工智能对成年人的价值持开放态度。)”可知,第二段中提到的宠物和娃娃有助于说明人工智能提供类似陪伴的潜力。故选B。
【33题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“Human loneliness is often characterised by a down ward spiral (螺旋线) in which isolation leads to lower self- esteem (自尊), which discourages further interaction with people(人类孤独的特征通常是螺旋式下降,在这种情况下,孤立会导致自尊降低,从而阻碍与他人的进一步互动)”可知,孤独感会导致一个向下的螺旋,即孤立导致自尊降低,进而阻碍与他人的进一步互动,因此this cycle指的是孤立,低自尊和进一步孤立的这种模式,故选D。
根据第四段“Sherry Turkle, professor of social science at MIT, has warned that forming relationships with machines could backfire, and lead people to have fewer secure and fulfilling human relationships.(麻省理工学院(MIT)社会科学教授Sherry Turkle警告说,与机器建立关系可能会适得其反,导致人们的人际关系更缺少安全感和令人满意度。)”
通读全文,尤其是第二段“Tony Prescott, professor of cognitive robotics at the University of Sheffield, argues that AI has an important role to play in preventing human loneliness.(University of Sheffield认知机器人教授Tony Prescott认为,人工智能在防止人类孤独感方面发挥着重要作用。)”和第四段“Whether AI can, or should, be part of the solution is not a new debate. Sherry Turkle, professor of social science at MIT, has warned that forming relationships with machines could backfire, and lead people to have fewer secure and fulfilling human relationships.(人工智能是否可以或应该成为解决方案的一部分,并不是一个新的争论。

此处需要用一个非谓语动词短语来修饰短语the first giant pandas,由于giant pandas被序数词first修饰,因此使用不定式to enter作为后置定语。故填to enter。
故填and。
故填where。
故填with/which。
故填an。
故填has worked/has been working。

In our cozy little house nestled at the end of a quiet street, my sister Oscar and I were bustling (忙碌的) about, filled with anticipation for Mother’s Day. Our mother Clare was the heart of our family. She was the type of mom who always put our needs first, sacrificing her own desires for our happiness.
Growing up, we established a beautiful tradition that each year, we would surprise her with a special gift to show our gratitude and love. This year, Oscar came up with a brilliant idea: “What if we made her a long and beautiful dress?” she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement. As I recalled, since the day we were born, Mom hadn’t bought herself a beautiful new dress, so I knew we had to make this year’s surprise truly special.
With that thought in mind, we set to work. I grabbed my drawing book and began to design, my pencil dancing across the page; while Oscar with her perfect sense of measurement and love for sewing. she got down to handling the cloth. Her eyes shone with concentration, while I focused on the beautiful patterns on the dress. Soon, the dress began to take shape — it was such a magnificent long dress, and we carefully wrapped it in gift paper.
But then came the question: where to hide it for the surprise to be revealed at dinner? We put our heads together, brainstorming the perfect hiding spot. “Nobody would think to look in my bedroom closet.” I suggested Oscar giggled, nodding in agreement, but we both neglected the fact that our two playful cats could be a problem.
Finally, the moment arrived. After dessert, I exchanged a knowing look with Oscar. It was time to unveil our creation! We dashed to our bedroom together, my heart pounding in my chest as I flung open the closet door.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 “NO!” I yelled, seeing our cats dashed out of the closet. My eyes widened in horror as I saw the gift-wrapped dress on the floor, torn and tattered. Oscar’s face paled as we both stared at the ruined surprise. Tears welled up in my eyes. How could this have happened? But there was no time to wallow in disappointment. We had to think fast.
“Where did you get such a beautiful scarf?” Mom asked. I looked at Oscar, panic-stricken. Then, on the spur of the moment, I grabbed the torn pieces of fabric and held them up. “Mom, this was supposed to be a dress for you. We made it with all our love. But the cats got to it.” Mom’s eyes filled with emotion. She took the pieces from me and hugged us both. “This is the most beautiful ‘scarf’ I’ve ever seen. It’s filled with your love and that’s all that matters.”

A. Hug their family members more. B. Stop touching their dogs.
C. Stop treating their dogs as friends. D. Leave their dogs alone.
31. What’s the main idea of this passage?
A. A study shows that dogs hate being treated like children.
B. A study tells owners that dogs dislike being hugged.
