We are often served single-use plastic cutlery (餐具) while eating out, like knives, forks and spoons. However, plastic cutlery is one of the biggest causes of pollution on our earth. While people are trying different ways to reduce plastic waste in their daily life, some companies are also taking action and among them is Biofase. Recently the company has found a new way to deal with plastic pollution—they succeeded in creating single-use cutlery with avocado seeds (鳄梨种子) that can biodegrade (生物降解) in 240 days.
Biofase is based in Mexico and there is one thing they can easily get their hands on-avocados. The avocado is a fruit with hard dark green skin and a large seed inside. Mexico is the world leader in avocado growing—about 50% of the world’s avocados come from the country. As many companies there process avocados to make oil, Biofase wanted to collect avocado seeds from the companies and make use of them. But it was not so easy to find a suitable way to turn them into biodegradable cutlery. The biggest challenge (挑战) was to find a way to turn the material into a desired (期望的) shape.
Everything comes to him who works hard. After studying for over a year and a half, Biofase was able to make single-use cutlery with avocado seeds. Their products look no different from plastic cutlery. Kept in a fresh and dry place, they stay usable for one year, but after that, they start to biodegrade without leaving anything behind.

A. It has encouraged people to eat out. B. It has created biodegradable cutlery.
C. It has grown millions of avocado plants. D. It has ordered people to reduce plastic waste.
32. How does the writer show us that Mexico is the world leader in avocado growing?

A. Growing avocados. B. Collecting avocado seeds.

34. What can we know about the avocado?
A. Its seeds are the best material to make oil. B. It is popular with people around the world.

Like many foreigners, I only knew two words of Chinese (“hello” and “thank you”) when I came to China. As you can probably guess, my life was difficult for a while after I arrived. Simple tasks like ordering food or taking a taxi were quite hard for me.
I knew I had to learn more Chinese, so I signed up for a class. My teacher was very helpful, although I didn’t learn enough to have a real conversation. Later, I studied on my own as well, but my progress was still slow. I became very frustrated (沮丧的).
Finally, I found that the best way to learn Chinese is to make friends with native speakers and spend time with them. Around this time, I started playing in a band with a Chinese woman who became one of my best friends in Beijing. I learned a lot of Chinese by hanging out (出去消遣) with her.
For example, she taught me a lot of words about music, such as “melody (旋律)”. She learned a lot of English from me in return, so it was a good way to exchange language and culture. She is still one of my best friends and we talk to each other nearly every day.
I’ve learned enough Chinese to take care of complicated (复杂的) tasks, such as booking train tickets and chatting with my landlord (房东). However, going to the bank and understanding technological vocabulary are still tough for me.
These days, there are more foreigners who are studying Chinese. I can understand why it’s a fascinating (迷人的) language. There are always new words waiting to be discovered.

Android phones (安卓手机) will be used to sense earthquakes around the world. They may one day be able to provide global warnings about earthquakes.
Google, which helped develop Android, is helping build the quake alerts (警报器) into all phones that run the common mobile operating system. Android users who have enabled location services and are near a quake of magnitude (震级) 4.5 or greater will receive a full-screen earthquake warning, telling them to drop to the floor and look for cover. The screen will also provide information about the quake’s magnitude and distance from the user. Depending on their distance from a quake, people could get several seconds or perhaps a minute of warning.
California's world-class earthquake early warning system will be a standard function on every Android phone-giving millions of people precious (宝贵的) seconds to drop, cover and hold on when the big one hits. Users don’t need to download California’s MyShake app in order to receive the warnings. IPhone users won’t receive the warnings through Apple’s operating system, but they can download the MyShake app.
Also, Google announced that Android phones will begin sensing earthquakes from around the world. “Your Android phone can be a mini-seismometer (地震仪), joining millions of other Android phones out there to form the world’s largest earthquake detection network,” according to a Google blog post.
Hundreds of millions of people live in areas where earthquakes take place often. But many countries are short of information to build detection and alert systems. The information will be used at first to provide fast and accurate (精确的) information on Google Search. But Google said it could begin sending out earthquake alerts next year.

B. Android phones have begun sensing earthquakes from around the world.
C. Google Search will begin sending out earthquake alerts in the near future.
