At the age of seven, while his friends were spending their money on candy and toys, Jose Adolfo Quisocala was busy saving money for more meaningful things. To try to get his peers(同龄人) to do the same, the youngster from Arequipa, Peru came up with the idea of an eco-bank, which allows kids of all ages to become economically independent while also helping the environment.
Set up in 2012, the Bartselana Student Bank is the world's first cooperative(合作的) bank for kids. Once accepted, all bank members are required to collect at least six kilograms of recyclables on a monthly basis. The waste is sold to local recycling companies. The money received is placed in the individual's account where they collect until his/ her savings goal is reached. The account holder can then withdraw(取出) his/ her money, or choose to leave it and continue to save for a bigger goal.
“At the beginning, my teachers thought I was crazy or that a child could not do this type of project,” Jose recalls. “They did not understand that we are not the future of the country but its present. Luckily, I had the support of the president of my school.”
Jose's efforts paid off, and by 2013, the Bartselana Student Bank had over 200 members who collectively brought in one ton of recyclable waste. Today, the eco-bank, has the support of several local organizations. On November 20,2018, Jose won the Children's Climate Prize.
“Jose’ s eco-bank is good way of linking the economy and climate change, both in thought and practice. The system clearly suggests that we must recycle the products that we no longer use,” a judge said. “This way caring about the environment becomes an investment(投资). A system that vies children both economic independence and the power to influence the climate.”
Hopefully, Jose's success wIʃl inspire more kids and adults to come up with new ideas that create value while helping the environment.

What's the hottest topic in your country? Whaling is one topic that's been dividing nations for many years now.
By the 1940s, more than 30,000 whales were being caught worldwide every year. Oil from whales lit the lights of major cities in the US and Europe, and whale oil was used to make soaps, paint and even the glaze on photographs.
In order to manage the development of the global whaling industry, the International Whaling Commission(IWC) was formed in 1946. However, in 1986, the IWC decided to ban whaling. The biggest concern was the huge decrease in whale populations across the planet. Indeed many people say that it came too late and that commercial(商业的) whaling has already resulted in many animals dying out. According to Greenpeace, sea whales and fin whales are listed as“endangered animals”.
But there are many other good reasons to fight against whaling. Whales are very intelligent animals. They have social networks very similar to those of humans. Ou top of that, whaling is also a cruel(残忍的) industry.
Still, some countries continue to hunt whales. Japan hunts more than 1,000 whales a year—— all of them are caught as part of a supposed“scientific research” programme run by the Japanese Institute of Cetacean Research. Many people argue that this“research” is nothing more than a front for commercial whaling. The situation was not helped in 2001, when Masayuki Komatsu from the Japanese Fisheries Agency described minke whales(小须鲸) as the“cockroaches(蟑螂) of the sea” in an interview.
Many groups have tried to stop the hunts. The Ady Gil (a ship belonging to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society) was hit by a whaling ship. The Ady Gil later sank. At present, the world is fairly divided on the topic with Iceland, Japan and Norway on the pro-whaling side, and the US, Australia, New Zealand and the EU on the anti-whaling side. Asked recently to give a number between one and ten to show how difficult his job was, Dr Simon Brockington, the chairman of the IWC, said“about a twelve”!
46. What fact is presented in the second paragraph?
A. Whale oil was of no use. B. Whaling was once a big industry.
C. Few whales were killed by humans. D. The US was the biggest whaling country.
47. What does the underlined word“it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. A concern. B. A suggestion.
C. The global ban on whaling. D. The endangered animals list.
48. What's the author's attitude towards“scientific research” programme?
A. Doubtful. B. Satisfied. C. Supportive. D. Uninterested.
49. What can we learn about whaling in Japan in 2001?
A. It was widespread. B. It was stopped by the IWC.
C. It caused minke whales to die out. D. It turned out to be scientific research.
50. What did Brockington think of anti-whaling?
A. It was effective. B. It was not realistic.
C. It was dangerous attempt. D. It was difficult to carry out.

The Antarctic community is very new compared to anywhere else in the world. The staff on scientific stations stay for anywhere from a few weeks to a little over two years, and tourists stay for about5 to 30 days. Scientific stations are often hundreds of miles apart. The result of this is that any celebration, festival, tradition or custom in Antarctica is relatively new and tends to be specific to a particular country's bases rather than being very widespread.
The biggest exception to this is Midwinter on the 21st of June which is celebrated right across Antarctica by all nations and stations. Second to Midwinter in celebration terns is Christmas and New Year in Antarctica. One of the most interesting customs is the 300 Club at the South Pole.
The 300 stands for a temperature change of that many degrees Fahrenheit(华式温度), which is equal to 149 degrees Celsius(摄氏温度). The idea is to wait until the temperature outside reaches an exceptional low and go into a sauna(桑拿浴) where you reach a higher temperature. You then open the door and run around some marker wearing only boots. You will achieve a difference of 300°F before re-entering the building to warm up again.
Due to the extremely low temperature needed, joining the 300 Club can only happen on a limited number of days in the deep winter months. However, fast running is not advised as it causes heavier breathing, which can hurt your air passages, leading to coughing for a couple of days while your body fixes the damage.
The practice arose in the 1950s when people first wintered at the South Pole, though early“hot boxes” didn't really get hot enough. Later on, stations had saunas built which allowed for an enough temperature difference. In the early days a roll (滚动) in the snow would sometimes be added too.
Unsurprisingly, the 300 Club is one of the most unique celebrations in the world. Not many can say they went from a sauna at+200°F to-100°Falmost instantly in the nude(裸体的), and ran around the world before coming back again. It could get a bit boring in the Antarctic winter without the 300 Club.
51. Why are festivals relatively new in Antrartica?
A. Because visitors there change frequently. B. Because scientific station expand rapidly.
C. Because tourists make the place popular recently. D. Because they are mainly celebrated by young people.
52. What is the idea of the 300 Club mainly about?
A. Experiencing a 300°F sauna comfortably. B. Organizing 300 people to run in the nude.
C. Feeling a 300°F temperature difference funnily.D. Winning the first place in a 300-foot race for tourists.
53. What can we do when celebrating the 300 Club?
A. Hold a meeting in a sauna. B. Dance and sing in the snow.
C. Run slowly around a certain marker. D. Protect air passages with warm scarves.
54. What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about?
A. The origin of the 300 Club. B. The celebration of the 300 Club.
C. The conditions for joining the club. D. The ways to win the race for the 300 Club.
55. What might be the reason for establishing the 300 Club?
A. To strengthen the body. B. To get amusement.
C. To get warmed up. D. To make markers.

I know exactly how you feel! I recently had a tough time working on a group project, too.
My teacher put me with three people (whom I'd like to call Cookie, Cupcake and Volcano). Our task was to pick a special place and make a brochure about it.
At our first meeting, Cupcake said, "Let's pick Andaman and Nicobar! They have super-cute swimsuits(泳衣).”
“That is so true! ” said Cookic. “Speaking of swimsuits, there are some get-ready-for-summer sales happening right now.”
“Really?” cried Cupcake excitedly. I turned to Volcano. “Which place do you think we should pick?” Volcano shrugged(耸肩) and said to me, “I don't care. But what happened to your hair, Arizona?”
I was getting the impression that no one but me planned to work on the brochure. When I came home after school, my mom could tell I was stressed out. “What's going on?” she asked.
“No one else in my group is doing any work,” I told her. “So I decided that the only way to get the brochure done was for me to do it myself.”
“Well,” my mom said with a smile, “I doubt you' re responsible for everyone else's part. Why don't you talk to your teacher about it?”
When I talked to my teacher the next day, he suggested I talk with my group directly about my worries.
And at our next group meeting, I brought up my concerns in a friendly way. “Since we' re working as a team, we' re all depending on each other to do the best we can, "I said. “If anyone is having trouble, maybe we can talk about solutions(解决办法) together.”
Surprisingly, Cupcake, Cookie, and Volcano all ended up doing their share.
So, dear Overworked, the next time you' re stuck doing way more work than anyone else, I think you should: 1. Talk with your group in a friendly way;2. Discuss your concerns with your teacher;3. Do the best job you can on your part of the task.
56. What does the underlined word in the first paragraph mean?(1 word)
57. What can we learn from the first meeting of Arizona's team?(no more than 10 words)

59. What is the main purpose of the text? (no more than 10 words)
60. What should we pay attention to when we give advice to others? Please explain.(no more than 25 words)
