Hoping to get the qualification to help govern it, Nannan made much preparation and then left her motherland with her visa to study in America. Having reached her destination, she settled in an inn recommended by the travel agent. As far as Nannan was concerned, she always kept it up in China. But she had to acknowledge it was not easy to adjust herself to the new academic requirements, which were not parallel with China’s. Though she was occupied with lectures and seminars day in and day out, the essays she drafted were still contradicted by her tutors. As for her routine life, she felt that it was hard to fit in, too. For example, she found English idioms difficult to understand. And it was out of the question to eat delicious Chinese foods though many optional cafeterias served abundant substitutes. In addition, she had to wait in a queue early for the minibus that took her to school and it was usually so cold that she felt numb. What bothered her most was that she received no apology when her sleeping was disturbed by a barking dog in a shopkeeper’s cage. Luckily, with her parents comforting her by videophone, she became autonomous soon and eventually got her bachelor’s degree successfully. 油田 qualification [ˌkwɒlɪfɪˈkeɪʃn] n. 资格 govern [ˈɡʌvn] v. 管理 preparation [ˌprepəˈreɪʃn] n. 准备 motherland [ˈmʌðəlænd] n. 祖国 visa [ˈviːzə] n. 签证 destination [ˌdestɪˈneɪʃn] n. 目的地 settle in [ˈsetl] v. 安顿 inn [ɪn] n. 旅馆 recommend [ˌrekəˈmend] v. 推荐 travel agent [ˈtrævl eɪdʒənt] n. 旅行代理 as far as sb is concerned [kənˈsɜːnd] 就......而言 keep it up [kiːp ɪt ʌp] v. 承认 adjust to [əˈdʒʌst tu] v. 适应 academic [ˌækəˈdemɪk] adj. 学院的 requirement [rɪˈkwaɪəmənt] n. 要求 parallel [ˈpærəlel] adj. 相同的 be occupied with [bi ˈɒkjupaɪd wɪð] v. 忙于 lecture [ˈlektʃə(r)] n. 讲座 seminar [ˈsemɪnɑː(r)] n. 研讨会 day in and day out [deɪ ɪn ənd deɪ aʊt] 整天 essay [ˈeseɪ , eˈseɪ] n. 论文 draft [drɑːft] v. 起草 contradict [ˌkɒntrəˈdɪkt] v. 反驳 tutor [ˈtjuːtə(r)] n. 导师 routine [ruːˈtiːn] n. 日常 fit in [fɪt ɪn] adj. 适应 idiom [ˈɪdiəm] n. 成语 out of the question [ˈkwestʃən] 不可能 optional [ˈɒpʃənl] adj. 可选的 cafeteria [ˌkæfəˈtɪəriə] n. 自助餐馆 abundant [əˈbʌndənt] adj. 丰富的 substitute [ˈsʌbstɪtjuːt] n. 替代品 queue [kjuː] n. 队 minibus [ˈmɪnibʌs] n. 麻木的 apology [əˈpɒlədʒi] n. 道歉 bark [bɑːk] v. 吠叫 shopkeeper [ˈʃɒpkiːpə(r)] n. Competent and dynamic, I never feel passive while diving into the identifications of whether applications are valid and practical according to the new version of the criteria. With the expectation of distinguishing their own importance, some people leave the beaten track and file strange products with us now and then, for example, lantern that can be attached on your forehead, cubic walnuts, refrigerator made of straw and glue, perfume that nobody can bear to smell, and so on. Once, a man made a triangle helicopter out of stainless wires and string. He called us up and merrily claimed it was stable and convenient to use, and never out of order. I asked him to hang on, but this innocent man just rang off and set out to fly from his courtyard. I dialed his number in the directory trying to ring him back, but never got through. Merciful God blessing, an abrupt freezing rainfall made his powder wet. Luckily, the trouble was without any extension except that he crashed into a greengrocer’s making all the ripe fruits become messy jam. When people seized this crazy man with caution and sobered him by tapping his face, he complained about the bad weather instead of associating his failure with his unscientific design. 消极的 dive into [daɪv ˈɪntu] v. 投入 identification [aɪˌdentɪfɪˈkeɪʃn n. 鉴定 valid [ˈvælɪd] adj. 有效的 practical [ˈpræktɪkl] adj. 实用性的 version [ˈvɜːrʒn] n. 版本 criteria [kraɪ'tɪrɪə] n. 标准 expectation [ˌekspekˈteɪʃn] n. 期望 distinguish [dɪˈstɪŋɡwɪʃ] v. 区分 beaten track [ˈbitn træk] n. 常规 file [faɪl] n. 提交,提出 product [ˈprɑːdʌkt] n. 产品 now and then [naʊ ənd ðɛn] 时不时 lantern [ˈlæntərn] n. 灯笼 forehead [ˈfɔːrhed,ˈfɔːrəd] n. 前额 cubic [ˈkjuːbɪk] adj. 立方体的 walnut [ˈwɔːlnʌt] n. 胡桃 refrigerator [rɪˈfrɪdʒəreɪtər] n. 冰箱 straw [strɔː]  n. 稻草 glue [ɡluː] n. 胶水 perfume [pərˈfjuːm] n. 方便的 out of order [aʊt ʌv ˈɔrdɚ] prep 发生故障 hang on [hæŋ ɑn] v. 无知的 ring off [rɪŋ ɔf] v. 挂断电话 set out [sɛt aʊt] v. 开始着手 courtyard  [ˈkɔːrtjɑːrd] n. 庭院 dial [ˈdaɪəl] v. 拨号 directory [daɪˈrektəri] n. 姓名地址录 ring back [rɪŋ bæk] v. 回电话 get through [ɡɛt θru] v. 轻拍 associate with [əˈsoʊʃiˌeɪt wɪð] v. I set about working in the current Patent Office after 1 (resign) from the court personnel. But one night, a drunk driver crashed into his motorcycle and his leg was severely injured. To save the leg, Chad went through operation after operation, but in vain. When the doctor announced the leg had to come off, Chad sank into a bitter desperation. How would he function with only one leg? Would he have the family he had always dreamed of? And how would he ever pay off the hospital bills? Nothing we did eased his deep frustration. One night, I brought Gene, the husband of my colleague, to Chad’s hospital room. Gene joked with Chad at once, telling him he was “on his last leg”. Chad exploded, “How can you talk like that when they’re going to cut off my leg?” Gene just bent over, rolled up his trousers and revealed his own prosthesis (假肢). I left them alone. When I returned an hour later, the light had come back into Chad’s eyes. “Gene said that people who give to others always get back more than they give. He said I should not worry about my future and the most important thing was never to give up.” Four months later, Chad was back at work. He remembered Gene’s words. He learned to ride a bicycle with his fake leg, swam one-legged and practiced running slow. However, the hardest problem was how he would ever get back on his “foot” financially. The hospital bills would take him thirty years to pay. His doctor often called to ask him to rush to the hospital and offer comfort to an injury victim. No matter how tired Chad was, no matter when he was called, he would drop everything to help. One day, he received a different call. “Chad,” the doctor began, “I am calling to tell you that a stranger has just paid all your medical bills.” Gene was right. People who give freely to others get back more than they give. 24.What can we learn about Chad after the accident? A.He felt concerned about his future. B.He left the hospital in desperation. C.He regretted riding the motorcycle. D.He refused to receive the treatment. 25.How did Gene manage to cheer Chad? A.He tended Chad carefully and lovingly. B.He offered some funny words of comfort. C.A good medicine tastes bitter. D.He who laughs last laughs best. C Pretending sickness may get harder. Slipping a day off work by nervously coughing down the phone to your boss might not work. Very soon your company might be able to tell whether your symptoms are real, just from your voice. An Indian research team tried to tell a “cold voice” from a healthy voice. Their research makes use of the fact that human speech, like any musical instrument, does not produce single frequencies of sounds. Even the best trained singers cannot hit pure notes like those from tuning forks. The dominant notes in the human voice are instead accompanied by a series of higher pitch (音高) tones. Together these sets of notes fit into mathematical patterns called harmonics (和声), with tones having frequencies that are multiples of the original note. For example, the pitch of the second harmonic note is twice the frequency of the main note and so on. The loudness of these harmonics in speech tends to fade as they proceed up the frequency scale. The team reasoned that infection with a cold might change how this decline happened. To find out, the scientists made use of an unusual resource: recordings of the voices of 630 people in Germany, 111 of whom were suffering from a cold. Each was asked to count from one to 40 and describe what they did at the weekend. They also read aloud a fable The North Wind and the Sun, which has been a popular text for speech research since 1949. By breaking down each person’s speech into its spectrum (声谱) of component wavelengths, the researchers could identify the dominant frequency and the harmonics in each case. They then used machine-learning to analyse the relationships between the loudness of these harmonics and found patterns that could distinguish the cold voices from the healthy voices. The team’s diagnosis of cold voice shows a 70% accuracy. Faced with another dull Monday at the office, would you take the risk? 28.On what basis is the research performed? I was sorting through some boxes in the loft last week when I came across my childhood. The moment that I saw my faded old friend, powerful memories flooded back from nearly 50 years before. 36 . Not all objects trigger such welcome memories. However. I once had to throw a pair of running shorts. Because they reminded me too much of the day I tripped and ended up in A&E with a broken wrist! 37 . According to a recent study, it’s possible to use thinking tricks to remove negative associations. And, in the process, you can learn a lot about how memory works — including how to get yours under control. Volunteers were first shown how to create connections between an item and a set of negative emotions. 38 . They linked a child’s trainer to images of a playground accident, for example, so that the object became uncomfortable to have nearby. Later, they were shown how to actively forget those feelings by consciously pushing away any pictures that appeared. And this turned out to be more than just a temporary distraction. It gradually weakened the bad memories — in some cases, erasing them altogether. It shows that recall relies on associations and images. And you can strengthen both of these factors when you want to remember: For example. • 39 .You’ll make the object an even more powerful “entrance” to happy times. • To remember an intention or ambition, choose an object that symbolises it for you in some way, then visualise your future plans whenever you see the object. Again, strengthening the images will continually sharpen the memories. On the other hand, when you want to forget an item’s bad associations: • Practise pushing away any images it triggers. This should get easier over time. • Try it with places, too — even people. 40 . Make the images — and the unwanted feelings — fade. A.They did this using vivid mental imagery B.Some memories can ruin people’s prospects C.Pick up a favourate souvenir and enjoy the pictures it brings to mind D.In an instant I was reconnected with how I felt — at an extremely happy time of my life E.But maybe I was too hasty F.They also help us avoid the mistakes of the past G.Be aware of any negative pictures they arouse, and actively reject them B: Helping Your Kids to Be Interested in Sports Being active and moving is something that is so important for us all, especially for children. 36 However, some parents can feel shocked when they see that their child isn’t interested in sports. So how can you encourage them to have ago? It is such a good idea to lead by example when you are a parent. This is true for a variety of aspects, but especially forgetting children involved in sport. 37 So you need to be someone who is interested and active, if you want any hope of them doing so too. If you lay on the couch all day then they will just learn to do that too. 38 Although they can choose who they want to support, seeing your enthusiasm for a particular player or team can be just what is needed to start their journey. You could look for a team uniform store to get them a sports shirt with their name on for example, as well as see the team play at one of their games. 39 If something is dull, it will be hard for children to be enthusiastic about it. This will make them resent(讨厌) it, which is not a good thing for later in life. If they show particular skill and learn to play sport, then more practice and training can come in. 40 When they can enjoy what they do, they will only see it as something fun to do, rather than what we as adults might see it as, such as a chore to burn calories. Whatever sport your child chooses to play, encourage them and make it fun, and then it will be something that they will want to carry on doing as they go about the rest of their lives. A.They won’t be interested in sports if you’re not. B.here are some other tips that you would share with them. C.Share your enthusiasm and it will help to lighten a passion. D.So think about ways that can get them to be active in the sports. E.How active a child is will impact their overall health and learning. F.Apart from leading by example, you could also share your favorite team. G.However, the main message forgetting children into sport is to keep it fun. Dear Rebecca, ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours. I am thrilled to offer some advice that may help you along your language learning journey. Firstly, one of the biggest challenges of learning Chinese is the pronunciation and tones. The four basic tones in Chinese can be tricky, and even slight variations in tone can change the meaning of a word. Listening to native speakers and practicing with a tutor or language partner can help you to develop your ear for the language and improve your pronunciation. Another challenge is getting used to the grammar. Chinese sentence structure is quite different from that of English, so it may take some time to adjust. I suggest starting with basic sentence patterns and gradually working your way up to more complex structures. It may also be helpful to focus on learning practical vocabulary related to travel, such as directions, transportation, and ordering food. This will enable you to communicate more effectively during your trip. I hope these tips are helpful to you, and I wish you the best of luck in your language learning journey. Don’t forget to have fun exploring the language and culture of China! But going home wasn’t an option. My adviser had required me and the rest of my lab mates to stay in the lab until she had time to read all of our reports. She had decided she wanted to meet early with each of us to discuss the single-paragraph descriptions of our work. We waited dutifully as each lab member took their turn. None of us dared to leave or to challenge our boss. I didn’t get home until 1:30 a.m. It was one more reminder that I should have been more careful when selecting a graduate adviser. Unfortunately, I was foolish enough not to give the directing style a second thought. I was simply happy to have received an offer. Part of the problem was that I had limited options. I moved to the United States with my husband, who had a good job in a particular city. It had only one university, with only one department that really interested me. So I started to volunteer in a research lab there. I was a regular attendee at departmental discussion groups, and that was where I met my future adviser. After she presented a meeting, I approached her and we set up a time to chat. We had a productive discussion about her research. Later, I went to dinner with her lab group. I didn’t pick up any signs of trouble, although one person who worked in a lab that shared space with hers did tell me about coming across one of her lab members crying in the break room. I ignored that warning sign. Within a few weeks, the staff member offered me a position in her lab as a master’s student. The opportunity seemed too good to pass up. I hoped it would work out. It wasn’t long before reality set in. Group meetings were terrible. Our adviser was often angry. The situation disappointed me. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A year later, I finally had the opportunity to change my adviser with a different lab. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2.(2024·全国·高三专题练习) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容进行续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Mr Tai, the teacher in charge of athletics at the school of SUKK Temarah, had just celebrated his 58th birthday — an age at which many would think seriously of retiring. However, it was not so with Mr Tai. He had an outstanding record of athletic achievements in leading the school’s sports team. Some of the students he had coached had become national runners or even coaches themselves. The school board agreed he continued to work as they did not want to lose the services of someone who had successfully led the school athletics team to the finals of the National Athletics Championships. In the year before, however, the school team did not get as many medals in the National Athletics Championships as expected. Mr Tai’s hopes were fired this year by two promising star athletics, Farid and Hassan, who happened to be twins. In the school’s sports meet, Farid broke the school’s twenty-year record for the 100 meters event. His brother, Hassan, was second to him. Since Hassan had an ankle injury, Mr Tai decided to submit only Farid’s name to the finals of the National Athletics Championships and told Farid to get ready for the event. On the day he submitted the results of the best runner in the school, he mistakenly wrote Hassan’s name instead. When Mr Tai received the list of the finalists in the 100 meters event in the National Athletics Championships, he realized his mistake. However, it was too late to inform the sports secretariat (秘书处). Besides, pride also did not allow him to tell Farid the mistake. He decided to inform his brother, Hassan, and start training him in the final preparations. When Farid learned that he was not a finalist, he could not believe his ears. Even though he was glad that his brother was qualified for the event, he was quite disappointed. To make matters worse, Mr Tai did not give him any reasons for his not being allowed to take part in the finals. There were only three people in his house. A father, a mother and a James himself. As time goes on, one day James’s mother’s health took a turn for the worse. His mother went to the hospital, but she was unable to come home alive. This broke James a lot from inside and he even stopped eating for several days. Seeing such condition of James, his father left him to live with his sister and himself went back to his village. James wanted to know why his mother died. Time goes on. Now James was about 15 years old. Right now he was studying class 10th. Since James was studying from the village, he does not have much knowledge yet. But one day he learned that doctors can help. They can heal any sick person. Now this thing settled in James’s mind. Now he wanted to study and became a doctor. He told this to his sister and his father. James’s father was overjoyed to listen that his son wanted to become a doctor, but at the same time he started thinking that it would take a lot of money to study a doctor. “Where will all this money come from?” James told his father the solution to the problem. He said, “Father! If I have studied 10 and 12 well, then I can study in a good government college for free, but for this I have to leave my village and go to some city and study.” Hearing this, James’ father said, “Son! For this I will mortgage (抵押) all my land”. And it happened. James’ father mortgaged all his land. Then he sent James to the city. James came to town for the first time. Here he saw a variety of things and styles. Seeing this, he deviated (偏离) from his main goal. Now he did not feel like studying. Then he befriended a girl. He considered that girl as his life. I was afraid of being a role model on campus. I was afraid of going to a middle school the following year. But nothing compared to my biggest fear of all… puberty (青春期). I was getting to the age where my voice would start changing. At first, I was excited for my voice to get deeper. But then I learned that before your voice gets deeper, it can sometimes crack(嘶哑). The first time it happened to me I was so embarrassed, but to my surprise, my friends didn’t make fun of me. In fact, they didn’t even mention it. That was reality. But in my self- conscious sixth-grade mind I was certain they were going to spend all day making fun of me behind my back. They were not having the same problem controlling their voices. After my first voice crack experience, I was determined to make sure it wouldn’t happen again. At least not in public. So, I began clearing my throat before I spoke. Limiting how much I spoke and clearing my voice before I spoke made my break and lunch experiences much less stressful. This was great but there was a larger problem. I was more scared about having a voice crack during class. There were reasons why having a voice crack in class was scarier. One of these reasons was that our class had a group of popular girls. Having a voice crack in front of them was a fear. Unfortunately, one day my worst frightening dream came true. It was about halfway through the year, when I was happy to have made it so long without a bad voice crack incident. That day, when I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was that we had a substitute(代课)teacher. I immediately started thinking about how the sub would need to take attendance. Vera, her mother, packing lunches for her two children, heard the shouting and dashed to Kristina. Kristina gave her the phone. Kristina was talking to her father at his doctor’s office in Moscow, Russia. “Vlad, why is Kristina shouting?” began Vera in Russian. “Vera, this afternoon I must attend a conference at her school. But I cannot be there. I have an important meeting. Why don’t you attend it?” Vlad replied. "How can I go?” “You are not going to a forest. You’ll be fine!” “I know, but I can’t speak English properly. It’s a rule at her school.” “You can manage. GO!” Vera turned to Kristina, “Kristina, your father is busy. I will come instead of him.” Kristina shouted, “Mother, you can’t speak English. How can you come to the conference? NO!” She plowed through her mother and ran sobbing. But Vera convinced Kristina. As there was no option, she agreed and left for school. Vera was depressed. She felt that if only she knew English, she could avoid such situations. But “how is it possible for me to learn English while balancing so many tasks?” Suddenly, she realized that Andrei was getting late, so she got him ready and walked him to school. In the afternoon, Vera attended the conference at the school. All the teachers and staff gave a warm welcome to Vera. Kristina kept quieting her mother. All she said were phrases like, “You are embarrassing!” “Stop talking!” and “You do not know English!” Ignoring her daughter’s comments, Vera managed to keep her cool and finished the meeting. Every day, their teachers gave them loads of homework and told them the test was very important and that they ought to spare no effort to perform well in it. Everyone followed the teachers’ instructions and made preparations for it, except Marc. He just turned a deaf ear to it. He thought he would rather play football than study. His mum and dad repeated the importance of revision for exams over and over again. They told him that he should be working hard preparing for the test. But the weather was sunny and he thought he had better things to do. “Shall we go to the park?” he said to his friend Huck one afternoon. “It’s a nice day. We could play football and kick around.” Huck shook his head. “I’m supposed to review my lessons,” he said. “I’m going home to do some math.” Marc was amazed. “You’d rather do math than play football?” “Math is important. Besides, my mum says she will buy me a mountain bike if I do well in the math exam.” “That’s crazy,” said Marc. Huck shrugged (耸肩) and replied, “Wait until I beat you in the test and you will watch me riding past on my mountain bike!” “You won’t beat me,” said Marc. “Oh yes, I will.” “Oh no, you won’t! That will never happen. Just wait and see!” For the first time ever, Marc wanted to perform well. He couldn’t bear it if his friend came top and he did badly. So when he got home, he opened his math book. But there was so much to do. All of a sudden, he felt like he’d forgotten everything he had learned that year! He didn’t know where to start. I usually never do community service before, but when I heard the opportunity to join my school’s service club, Interact, I put up my hand without hesitation. The opportunity to help people in need excited me and as I signed up to attend Saint Mary’s Food Bank, the urge of helping people made my body tremble. As I walked after school to Mrs. Green, I could feel the palms(手掌)of my hands becoming wet by the minute. The water of my nerves ran down the side of my head and I could feel the tip of my shirt soaking(湿透)with fresh sweat. The clock ticked and I could feel the time of going to Saint Mary’s Food Bank getting closer. Ten minutes later the bus arrived-and we were on our way to the bank. On the way many things came through my mind. What was it going to look like? Will there be homeless people there, and will I enjoy my experience? As I continued to explore my mind, the bus came to a stop.“We’re here,”said loudly the bus driver. I could feel the palms of my hands beginning to moisturize(变潮湿)once again. As I got off the bus, I fell into a deep doubt. This was the food bank? I had never seen anything like it. To my amazement, it reminded me of a place I would go in Mexico to feed the poor. His opponent having missed the last question, it was Hector’s turn. If he answered his question correctly, he would be the Room Five champion. “Where did I put that second sheet of questions?” Mr. Adler whispered while searching through a thick pile of papers on his messy desk. Mr. Adler, though a great teacher, had a reputation of being disorganized with a long history of misplacing things. “Oh well, I apologize for the delay.” said Mr. Adler after what seemed like a long time. “Hector, please tell us the capital city of Brazil.” Hearing the question, Hector smiled. Then, there was the answer. Later that day in the courtyard, many classmates congratulated Hector. Wearing a proud smile, he greeted and thanked them all. Oh, the sweet taste of victory. As it was getting late, the courtyard became deserted. But Hector still didn’t want to leave. Then he saw Mr. Adler crossing the courtyard and holding a half-open bag full of papers. Today was the best day of the year for him. Nat loved to play tricks, and today was April Fools’ Day. Some of Nat’s tricks were big hits. Last year, he short-sheeted his sister’s bed. She couldn’t understand what was going on and started to think that her legs must have grown much longer during the day. When she realized what had happened, she laughed her head off. Some of Nat’s tricks were not so successful. Mom didn’t think finding a furry toy mouse in the fridge was humorous at all. After she calmed down a bit, she said, “That’s it! There’s a ban on Nat tricks for two weeks.” Nat was also the class clown. He was always making jokes in class. He liked it when he made the other kids laugh. Since it was April Fools’ Day, he felt like he had to come up with something really good to provide his classmates with some really good entertainment. For that, Nat thought long and hard before he came up with his brilliant idea. He bought two toy frogs which were made out of green plastic and looked very realistic. Nat knew just the trick he would play on his classmates. Nat arrived at school early. To succeed in his plan, he needed to get into the classroom before anyone else. Nat’s class had a rainforest terrarium (饲养皿). It had plants, insects, and three frogs in it. Nat’s idea was to pretend that the frogs had escaped. He knew that Ms. Lopez, his teacher, wasn’t afraid of frogs but several of his classmates, including himself, were. Nat slipped into the classroom. Good! There was nobody here. He put one of the toy frogs on the floor, near the terrarium and the other on his friend Stacey’s desk. Nat knew that Stacey really didn’t not like frogs. OK, maybe it was partly my fault. Maybe I should have spent less time worrying about that important geography assignment and more time on math. But math is a tricky thing. And sitting down in a chair to work on confusing algebraic equations(代数方程) for two hours is a slow and painful process. Besides, people around tend to ask. “How’s your math this time?” So I became afraid of anything to do with numbers. The thought of a teacher picking on me in class was terrifying. The red marking was like a component in a horror movie. It only got worse in ninth grade. Every report card I ever received was delivered with the comment: “Victoria needs to ask for assistance in class.” But I couldn’t tell my teachers the real reason why I didn’t ask for help: I didn’t want to be a fool. Every question I had was, in my opinion at the time, something that the entire class could understand but I couldn’t. So instead, I adopted the mindset of not caring about anything and concluding that everything would work out in the end. It didn’t. After spending a semester not caring about homework and not trying on tests, still afraid of math and convinced that I would never succeed, my math teacher called one summer morning to tell me I would spend the next three weeks at school redoing the entire course so I could pass. This news was met with sudden tears, and a loud “this can’t be happening to me!” That’s when it hit me. Why was I scared of a bunch of numbers, anyway? Why did I barely study for tests because I had convinced myself I would never do well? Over the years Chelsea had always struggled, both academically and with self-confidence. Additionally, her mother had died after a heroic battle with a terminal illness when Chelsea was a fifth grader. As she began her sixth grade, Chelsea was still hurting. Ms. Johnson worried about her with good reason. Each fall, Ms. Johnson takes the students for a five-day adventure at Wolf Ridge, an environmental learning center in the woods of Northern Minnesota overlooking Lake Superior. The week is filled with learning, team building, and overcoming seemingly impossible challenges. They go in October, and the turning leaves of trees come to symbolize the changes happening to the students over the week. The steps and growth students make at Wolf Ridge become a metaphor Ms. Johnson uses throughout the year as her students face challenges in the classroom. The most difficult activity is the High Adventure Ropes Course, which stretches from tower to tower high amongest the treetops forty feet above the ground. Ms. Johnson knew this experience would be particularly difficult for Chelsea. When it was time for her to fasten the harness (安全带), Chelsea was already trembling. The harness offers physical protection, but not much mental comfort when nothing but a slippery board or an unsteady wire is between your feet and the ground far below. Chelsea stepped hesitantly onto the Swinging Wood Bridge, and only after the instructor’s encouragement, slowly made her way across its shaky boards up to the first tower. With the support of a chaperone (监护人) stationed there, she began her way across the Burma Bridge, made of merely three wires and straps. Her trembling body added to its shaking. From down below, her ground partners shouted up supportively, “Come on, Chelsea, you’re doing great!” Chelsea finally reached the second tower and eventually stepped out onto the next challenge and slowly inched her way across. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Now she faced what for many is the most difficult activity: the Single Wire. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The final challenge is a zip line (滑索), which requires leaping off the last tower and sliding to the ground. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 寒假高三Day 3 1. 课内单词复习+新单词: UNIT 3 Family matters character /ˈkærəktər/ n. Study in America 留学美国 Nannan’s father runs an enterprise near the Ming Tombs selling batteries and drills to the Daqing Oilfield. 高考高频词汇与短语 词汇 音标 词性 含义 enterprise [ˈentəpraɪz] n. 公司;企业单位 Tombs [tuːm] n. 坟墓;冢 battery [ˈbætri] n. 电池 drill [drɪl] n. 钻机 oilfield [ˈɔɪlfiːld] n. 油田 qualification [ˌkwɒlɪfɪˈkeɪʃn] n. 资格 govern [ˈɡʌvn] v. 管理 preparation [ˌprepəˈreɪʃn] n. 准备 motherland [ˈmʌðəlænd] n. 祖国 visa [ˈviːzə] n. 签证 destination [ˌdestɪˈneɪʃn] n. 目的地 settle in [ˈsetl] v. 安顿 inn [ɪn] n. 旅馆 recommend [ˌrekəˈmend] v. 推荐 travel agent [ˈtrævl eɪdʒənt] n. 旅行代理 as far as sb is concerned [kənˈsɜːnd] 就......而言 keep it up [kiːp ɪt ʌp] v. 保持着良好的状态 acknowledge [əkˈnɒlɪdʒ] v. 承认 adjust to [əˈdʒʌst tu] v. 适应 academic [ˌækəˈdemɪk] adj. 学院的 requirement [rɪˈkwaɪəmənt] n. 要求 parallel [ˈpærəlel] adj. 相同的 be occupied with [bi ˈɒkjupaɪd wɪð] v. 忙于 lecture [ˈlektʃə(r)] n. 讲座 seminar [ˈsemɪnɑː(r)] n. 研讨会 day in and day out [deɪ ɪn ənd deɪ aʊt] 整天 essay [ˈeseɪ , eˈseɪ] n. 论文 draft [drɑːft] v. 起草 contradict [ˌkɒntrəˈdɪkt] v. 反驳 tutor [ˈtjuːtə(r)] n. 导师 routine [ruːˈtiːn] n. 日常 fit in [fɪt ɪn] adj. 适应 idiom [ˈɪdiəm] n. 成语 out of the question [ˈkwestʃən] 不可能 optional [ˈɒpʃənl] adj. 可选的 cafeteria [ˌkæfəˈtɪəriə] n. 自助餐馆 abundant [əˈbʌndənt] adj. 丰富的 substitute [ˈsʌbstɪtjuːt] n. 替代品 queue [kjuː] n. 队 minibus [ˈmɪnibʌs] n. 小型巴士 numb [nʌm] adj. 高考高频词汇与单词 单词 音标 词性 中文 set about [sɛt əˈbaʊt] v. 开始 current [ˈkɜːrənt] adj. 现在的 patent ['pætnt] n. 专利权,专利品 court [kɔːrt] n. 法院 personnel [ˌpɜːrsəˈnel] n. 人事部门 competent [ˈkɑːmpɪtənt] adj. 能胜任的 dynamic [daɪˈnæmɪk] adj. 有活力的 passive [ˈpæsɪv] adj. 消极的 dive into [daɪv ˈɪntu] v. 投入 identification [aɪˌdentɪfɪˈkeɪʃn n. 鉴定 valid [ˈvælɪd] adj. 有效的 practical [ˈpræktɪkl] adj. 实用性的 version [ˈvɜːrʒn] n. 版本 criteria [kraɪ'tɪrɪə] n. 标准 expectation [ˌekspekˈteɪʃn] n. 期望 distinguish [dɪˈstɪŋɡwɪʃ] v. 区分 beaten track [ˈbitn træk] n. 常规 file [faɪl] n. 提交,提出 product [ˈprɑːdʌkt] n. 产品 now and then [naʊ ənd ðɛn] 时不时 lantern [ˈlæntərn] n. 灯笼 forehead [ˈfɔːrhed,ˈfɔːrəd] n. 前额 cubic [ˈkjuːbɪk] adj. 立方体的 walnut [ˈwɔːlnʌt] n. 胡桃 refrigerator [rɪˈfrɪdʒəreɪtər] n. 冰箱 straw [strɔː]  n. 稻草 glue [ɡluː] n. 胶水 perfume [pərˈfjuːm] n. 香水 triangle [ˈtraɪæŋɡl] n. 三角形 helicopter  [ˈhelɪkɑːptər] n. 直升飞机 stainless [ˈsteɪnlɪs] adj. 不锈钢的 wire [ˈwaɪər] n. 金属丝 string [strɪŋ] n. 细绳 merrily [ˈmerəli] adv. 高兴地 stable [ˈsteɪbl] adj. 稳定的,牢固的 convenient [kənˈviːniənt] adj. 方便的 out of order [aʊt ʌv ˈɔrdɚ] prep 发生故障 hang on [hæŋ ɑn] v. 坚持一下 innocent [ˈɪnəsnt] adj. 无知的 ring off [rɪŋ ɔf] v. 挂断电话 set out [sɛt aʊt] v. 开始着手 courtyard  [ˈkɔːrtjɑːrd] n. 庭院 dial [ˈdaɪəl] v. 拨号 directory [daɪˈrektəri] n. 姓名地址录 ring back [rɪŋ bæk] v. 回电话 get through [ɡɛt θru] v. 轻拍 associate with [əˈsoʊʃiˌeɪt wɪð] v. 与…联系在一起 语法填空 I set about working in the current Patent Office after 1 (resign) from the court personnel. C.He shared a similar story of his own with Chad. D.He proved to be capable of swimming one-legged. 26.Which of the following best describes Chad? A.Determined and helpful. B.Caring and humorous. C.Confident and cooperative. D.Ambitious and warmhearted. 27.What message does the author want to convey in the text? A.Love breaks down barriers. B.Kindness is always rewarded. C.A good medicine tastes bitter. D.He who laughs last laughs best. 【答案】24.A 25.C 26.A 27.B 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了因车祸失去一条腿的Chad在有类似遭遇的朋友的鼓励下,积极面对生活,迎难而上,帮助他人的同时也救赎自己的故事。 24.细节理解题。根据第一段最后四句“When the doctor announced the leg had to come off, Chad sank into a bitter desperation. How would he function with only one leg? Would he have the family he had always dreamed of? And how would he ever pay off the hospital bills?”(当医生宣布截肢时,Chad陷入了痛苦的绝望之中。只有一条腿的他要怎么行动?他会拥有他一直梦想的家庭吗?那他怎么付得起医药费呢?)可知,截肢之后,Chad不知道该如何面对未来的生活,不知道自己是否还有美好的未来。故选A项。 25.推理判断题。根据第二段第五句“Gene just bent over, rolled up his trousers and revealed his own prosthesis(假肢).”(Gene弯下腰,卷起裤子,露出了自己的假肢。)及第三段第一句“When I returned an hour later, the light had come back into Chad’s eyes.”(一小时后我回来时,Chad的眼睛里又出现了光芒。)可知,Gene也是只有一条腿,和Chad的情况相似,可推测Gene用自己的亲身经历鼓励Chad。故选C项。 26.推理判断题。根据第四段第二句“He learned to ride a bicycle with his fake leg, swam one-legged and practiced running slow.”(他学会了用假腿骑自行车,用一条腿游泳,还练习了慢跑。)及第五段第二句“No matter how tired Chad was, no matter when he was called, he would drop everything to help.”(无论Chad多么劳累,无论什么时候打电话叫他,他都愿意放下一切来帮忙。)可知,Chad非常坚强,学会了许多事情,而且乐于助人。故选A项。 27.推理判断题。根据第五段最后一句“I am calling to tell you that a stranger has just paid all your medical bills.”(我打电话是想告诉你,一个陌生人刚刚付清了你所有的医药费。)及第六段“Gene was right. People who give freely to others get back more than they give.”(Gene是对的。自由地给予别人的人得到的比他们付出的要多。)可知,Chad尽力去帮助别人,安慰别人,他的善良也获得了回报。故选B项。 C (2023·山东师范大学附中校考模拟预测)Pretending sickness may get harder. A.Human speeches vary in frequencies. B.Training has no effect on human notes. C.Humans speak like musical instruments. D.Higher pitch notes dominate human voices. 29.What may reduce the volume of human harmonics? A.The pitch of harmonics. B.A pretended cold voice. C.The sets of human notes. D.Higher sound frequencies. 30.Why are the participants required to read the fable? A.It is easy to understand. B.It is valuable in literature. C.It is popular with speakers. D.It is suitable for the research. 31.What does the author want to tell us? A.Human speech reflects health B.Pretending sickness is a trend. C.Voice changes with conditions. D.Changing voice is of great risk. 【答案】28.A 29.D 30.D 31.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述印度的一个研究小组试图区分感冒的声音和健康的声音。 28.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Their research makes use of the fact that human speech, like any musical instrument, does not produce single frequencies of sounds.(他们的研究利用了这样一个事实,即人类的语言和任何乐器一样,不会产生单一频率的声音)”可知,该研究理论基础是人的语言频率是不同的。故选A项。 29.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“The loudness of these harmonics in speech tends to fade as they proceed up the frequency scale. (这些和声在语音中的响度往往会随着它们在频率范围内的上升而减弱)”可知,较高的声音频率会减少人类和声的响度。故选D项。 30.推理判断题。由文章第四段“By breaking down each person’s speech into its spectrum (声谱) of component wavelengths, the researchers could identify the dominant frequency and the harmonics in each case. They then used machine-learning to analyse the relationships between the loudness of these harmonics and found patterns that could distinguish the cold voices from the healthy voices.(通过将每个人的语音分解为其分量波长谱,研究人员可以识别出每种情况下的主频和和声。然后,他们使用机器学习来分析这些和声的响度之间的关系,并找到了可以区分感冒声音和健康声音的模式)”可知,测试者被要求读寓言是因为可用他们的声音来分析。由此推知,这样做是为了配合该研究。故选D项。 31.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“The loudness of these harmonics in speech tends to fade as they proceed up the frequency scale. The team reasoned that infection with a cold might change how this decline happened.(这些和声在语音中的响度往往会随着它们在频率范围内的上升而减弱。研究小组推断,感染感冒可能会改变这种下降的发生方式)”以及联系上下文可推知,作者想告诉我们声音随着环境的变化而变化。故选C项。 六:七选五: Choose What To Remember, What To Forget You can take more control of your recall — as our memory expert Jonathan Hancock explains. A.They did this using vivid mental imagery B.Some memories can ruin people’s prospects C.Pick up a favourate souvenir and enjoy the pictures it brings to mind D.In an instant I was reconnected with how I felt — at an extremely happy time of my life E.But maybe I was too hasty F.They also help us avoid the mistakes of the past G.Be aware of any negative pictures they arouse, and actively reject them 【答案】36.D 37.E 38.A 39.C 40.G 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了如何提高个人修养,消除负面影响,走向积极的人生。 36.前文“I was sorting through some boxes in the loft last week when I came across my childhood. 【答案】36.E 37.A 38.F 39.C 40.G 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要介绍一些帮助孩子对运动感兴趣的方法。 36.根据上文“Being active and moving is something that is so important for us all, especially for children. (活跃和运动对我们所有人都非常重要,对儿童来说尤为重要。)”可知,这里强调活跃和运动对儿童来说尤为重要。选项E“孩子的活跃程度将影响他们的整体健康和学习。”和上文意思一致。故选E。 37.根据上文“It is such a good idea to lead by example when you are a parent.  This is true for a variety of aspects, but especially forgetting children involved in sport.(当你为人父母时,以身作则是个好主意。这在很多方面都是正确的,但尤其是在忘记孩子们参与体育运动这方面。)”可知,作为家长要为孩子树立榜样,结合上文提到体育运动,可知选项A“如果你不感兴趣,他们就不会对体育感兴趣。”和上文意思一致。故选A。 38.根据下文“Although they can choose who they want to support, seeing your enthusiasm for a particular player or team can be just what is needed to start their journey. (尽管他们可以选择他们想要支持的人,但看到你对某个特定球员或球队的热情可能正是他们开始旅程所需要的。)”可知,这里建议家长跟孩子分享喜欢的球员或球队。选项F“除了以身作则,你还可以与他们分享你喜欢的球队。”和下文意思一致。故选F。 39.根据上文“You could look for a team uniform store to get them a sports shirt with their name on for example, as well as see the team play at one of their games. (例如,你可以找一家队服商店给他们买一件印有他们名字的运动衫,也可以看球队参加他们的一场比赛。)”可知,这里举例说明家长在球队的热情。选项C“分享你的热情,这将有助于点燃激情。”和上文意思一致。故选C。 40.根据上文“If they show particular skill and learn to play sport, then more practice and training can come in. (如果他们表现出特殊的技能并且学习运动,那么就应多练习和训练。)”和下文“When they can enjoy what they do, they will only see it as something fun to do, rather than what we as adults might see it as, such as a chore to burn calories.(当他们能够享受自己所做的事情时,他们只会认为这是一件有趣的事情,而不是我们成年人可能认为的事情,比如燃烧卡路里的家务。)” Dear Rebecca, ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours. But I am delighted that you have enjoyed yourself here and grown attached to Chinese culture. As a small token of appreciation, I picked a Chinese painting for you, on which is a pair of chopsticks. Spanning thousands of years, chopsticks are a kind of tableware with distinct national features, being an important component that fully reflects the intelligence of Chinese people. They always come in a pair and look identical. As an ancient Chinese saying goes, good things come in pairs. Chopsticks embody the beauty of symmetry and harmony of relationships. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The situation disappointed me. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A year later, I finally had the opportunity to change my adviser with a different lab. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】     The situation disappointed me. I lost the motivation to do my work. I wondered whether I should quit, but as an international student, I felt trapped. If I dropped out of my program, I’d not only be out of a job, but I’d also lose my student visa status. So I stuck it out and waited for the right moment to jump ship. I realized that the adviser was not suitable for me. She was not the one to lead me to success. A year later, I finally had the opportunity to change my adviser with a different lab. This time, I was careful not to repeat the mistakes I had made in the past. I met another adviser whose research interested me. When I visited his lab, I paid attention to how he got along with others, and I spoke with people who worked with him, especially asking about his directing style. I was amazed how friendly everyone was. His students had great respect for him, and I immediately sensed that his lab was an environment where I could succeed. 2.续写线索:失望——困境——坚持——机会——感受 【高分词汇】 ①放弃:quite/resign/give up ②参观:visited/toured/explored ③注意:paid attention to/focused/concentrated 情绪类 ①失望:disappointed/let down/dissatisfied/unhappy ②惊讶:amazed/astonished/astounded/flabbergasted 【高分句型1】 I met another adviser whose research interested me.(运用了whose引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】 If I dropped out of my program, I’d not only be out of a job, but I’d also lose my student visa status.(运用了If引导的条件状语从句) 2.(2023·全国·高三专题练习) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容进行续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Mr Tai, the teacher in charge of athletics at the school of SUKK Temarah, had just celebrated his 58th birthday — an age at which many would think seriously of retiring. Realizing that his hopes for athletic glory were destroyed, Farid felt extremely sad. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。 Paragraph 1: Seeing Farid’s unhappiness, his best friend, John, pulled him aside to have a talk. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Hassan did not do well in the National Athletics Championships. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】  Seeing Farid’s unhappiness, his best friend, John, pulled him aside to have a talk. Farid poured out his pain and sadness to John, who then encouraged him to talk with Mr Tai. However, Mr Tai tried to avoid meeting Farid because the reputable teacher did not want to admit his mistake to his student. When Farid finally managed to meet Mr Tai, the latter just made him accept that his brother was the better choice but didn’t provide an explanation. My permanent (长期的)teacher never had to. Since he already knew each student and where they sat, he just had everyone sit down in their assigned seat, and marked “absent” the students whose seats were empty. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I started to feel frightened. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The whole class turned to look at me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】     I started to feel frightened. So many thoughts were rushing through my mind that I could not think straight. I calmed myself down by telling myself that I only had to say one word: “here.” Easy enough right? Well, I thought so too until my name was called. I did my normal routine; I cleared my throat, took a breath, and said, “Here.” The only problem was that while saying this, I had the worst voice crack in the history of voice cracks. The whole class turned to look at me. It felt as if everyone was staring into my soul. There was silence, and then the entire class burst into laughter. My worst nightmare had come true, and it was embarrassing. I wanted to run out of the class and go home, get in bed, and pull the covers over my head, but I knew that would only make things worse. The class settled down and then continued as normal. Everything went on as if nothing happened. Actually nobody cared about my voice crack. I learned that it’s important to be positive. 2.续写线索:忐忑不安——被点名——当众发声——被嘲笑——勇敢面对——感悟 【高分词汇】 行为类 ①镇静:calm down/settle down/quiet down ②盯着:stare/gaze/glare ③突然大笑:burst into laughter/burst out laughing 情绪类 ①尴尬:embarrassing/awkward ②害怕:frightened/scared 【高分句型1】 I calmed myself down by telling myself that I only had to say one word. But I cannot be there. I have an important meeting. Why don’t you attend it?” Vlad replied. "How can I go?” “You are not going to a forest. It was brown, wide and had an old look to it. As we entered the bank as a group, the essence of it was very comfortable. I felt like I was home. Finally my nerves were gone, and I was ready to work. Before we started working, we were given instructions. But as soon as we finished our tour of instructions, the duty of service began. We were all divided into groups and given a specific job, ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Community service can bring out the best of everyone. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】  We were all divided into groups and given a specific job. I was assigned to place beans into a box. As a group we worked fast, the boxes would move and move so fast that sometimes I would have to ask for help. The warm-hearted workmates encouraged me to make every effort. Although I might have broken a nail, the feeling of knowing that I was doing something for someone out there made me fulfilled. And I realized that the true meaning of community service was making a difference in someone’s life. Community service can bring out the best of everyone. It provides the feeling of accomplishment and internal satisfaction. My parents and grandparents always tell me,“It is better to give, than to receive.” These quotes are true. I thought they were just saying it, until I finally realized that it made sense. I told my family the experience about community service after getting home. As he hurried past, an envelope dropped out but Mr. Adler was unaware, turned a corner and disappeared out of sight. Hector picked it up. On the envelope were the words “Fifth Grade Geography Bee Questions and Answers”. Hector stared wide-eyed at the envelope. Before he even had time to reflect on the consequences, he opened it and read the questions. As soon as Hector had done it, he knew it was the wrong choice. He’d cheated and whatever he did now, he couldn’t change the fact. “What if Mr. Adler thought I stole this morning’s questions too?” Hector thought. “He’d take away my Room Five victory for sure.” Little did he know that one of the best days in his life would be turned into the worst so quickly. Before he formed questions, Hector started unbosoming his regrets. If he had waited another moment, they would have torn him into pieces. “Can I still be in the Bee?” asked Hector timidly. “Absolutely, my honest boy,” Mr. Adler patted his shoulder. “I don’t believe in punishing people for making the right decisions and correcting their mistakes.” Immense relief washed over Hector. The next day the entire school came to watch the Fifth Grade Geography Bee. Having been up late studying, Hector looked exhausted but extremely excited. So did all the other competitors. All the eyes fixed on the stage, Hector felt blood rushing onto his cheeks and his heart beating fast. Also, she played a great trick on him last April Fools’ Day. To make his trick more convincing, Nat pushed the lid of the terrarium open. Then he rushed off to morning gathering. When the students got back to class, no one noticed the toy frogs at first. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Nat realized that he had opened the lid of the terrarium. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】  When the students got back to class, no one noticed the frogs at first. Then Stacey, who finally noticed the frog, screamed and pointed at her desk. The whole class exploded. A couple of other kids leapt out of their seats and shrieked while the rest were laughing and banging their desks. Nat was feeling very pleased with himself. His trick was definitely a success. But he knew he had to hide his glee. He pretended that he was working and reached out for a piece of paper. It was then that something cold and wet slithered past his fingers. It was a frog-a real one! Nat realized that he had opened the terrarium. Suddenly, there came a loud croak from under his chair. Nat almost jumped out of his skin with fright. Now he became the laughingstock of the class. What scared him even more was the only person who remained serious-Ms. Lopez. She calmly walked down the aisle, scooped up the frog and put it back into the terrarium. Then she came to Nat’s side, seemingly waiting for his confession. Nat felt his face burning and apologized to Ms Lopez. He also promised to be considerate from then on. 知道:know/be aware of 情绪类 1. 满意的:pleased / satisfied ②.喜悦:glee / pleasure/joy 【高分句型1】 Then Stacey, who finally noticed the frog, screamed and pointed at her desk.(运用了关系代词who引导的非限制性定语从句。) 2】 He pretended that he was working and reached out for a piece of paper.(运用了that引导的宾语从句。) 3】 What scared him even more was the only person who remained serious-Ms. When I was in seventh grade, my parents paid forty dollars a week for a tutor to come to my house and help me with math, which ended up raising my mark from fifty to fifty-five. Who was this unconfident student and what happened to that determined and confident teenager I had once been? I finally realized that I had let math take over my life. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ So I was off to three weeks of summer school, three hours of math each day. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】  I finally realized that I had let math take over my life. Paragraph 1: Now she faced what for many is the most difficult activity: the Single Wire. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【范文模板】   Now she faced what for many is the most difficult activity: the Single Wire. Thinking about the fact that there was only one wire, Chelsea was trembling again and afraid to make one more step. But hearing the cheers from her teacher and classmates below, she got to gain courage. Holding the harness tightly, Chelsea began to walk step by step carefully and cautiously. Finally, she made it. The final challenge is a zip line (滑索), which requires leaping off the last tower and sliding to the ground. Staring at the zip line, Chelsea didn’t feel frightened any longer. Because she found it is much easier to slide to the ground with the line. She had experienced much tougher activities before, so she had the faith to go through it. Without hesitation, Chelsea slid along the zip line and landed on the ground safe and sound. All her teacher and classmates applauded for her and there was a wide smile on her face. 2.续写线索:害怕——鼓励——鼓起勇气——成功 【高分词汇】 行为类 ①再迈出一步:make one more step/walk a little farther ②成功做到:made it/do sth.
