I saw an old man wearing a T-shirt today with an interesting slogan:“Inside this older person is a younger person wondering what has happened.” I could really understand that.
Time has really flown by. As I watch my children graduate from college and raise their own families, I am reminded of the time. I’m not 25. I’m just sometimes shocked to think that 36 years have passed since I was! Thinking back on the great deal of time that I spent I always ask myself: Did I use those years well? Did I spend these years in such a way that I merit and gain more? Is there anything that I can do to slow down the clock?
Knowing the swiftness (迅速) of time lets us know how we spend it quickly. It should be encouraged not to waste it, not to avoid the ill and uncomfortable problems we need to be faced with, and to deal with our weaknesses and challenges now rather than put them to some future date. I often realize the importance of growth and change. I accept Hillel’s opinion, “If not now, when?”
I know that time doesn’t slow down but rather speeds up. Since that’s true, the time to act is now. We frequently forget how much time passes so quickly; however, the loss of anyone who is close to us reminds us of how life is valuable as well as how time flies! Our opportunities for growth won’t be here forever. If I want to change, if I want to grow, the time is now.
At this moment,I am reminded of the flying time by the words on the T-shirt again. Therefore I made up my mind to improve myself now.
41. What does the writer use the example of the older man to do?
A. To bring forward how time flies.
B. To show the old man is very poor.
C. To show the old man’s mind is young.
D. To show the writer understands old people’s mind.
42. What can we know about the author?
A. He is in his sixties.
B. He graduated recently.
C. He is mad about a T-shirt.
D. He spoke highly of the old man.
43. The underlined word in Para. 2 has the closest meaning to________.
A. carry on
B. break away from
C. consider or think of
D. earn or be worth

The world’s oceans will likely lose about one-sixth of their fish and other creatures within 100 years if climate change continues at its present speed. These are the findings of a computer-based study by an International team of marine biologists (海洋生物学家).
Every degree Celsius (℃) that the world’s oceans warm, their biomass, or the total weight of all the marine animal life, is expected to drop by 5%, the study also found. The study predicts that if there is no change in the speed of worldwide greenhouse gas production, there will be a 17% loss of biomass by the year 2100. But, if the world reduces carbon (碳) pollution, biomass losses could be limited to only about 5%.
William Chung is a marine biologist at the University of British Columbia in Canada. He co-wrote the study, and told the Associated Press, “There are already changes that have been noticed.
Warming temperatures are the biggest problem. But climate change also produces oceans that are more acidic and have less oxygen, which can also harm sea life.
Much of the world depends on the oceans for food and work, the scientists say. University of Victoria biology professor Julia Baum was not part of the study, but she said the findings made sense. She noted that the possible influence of the predicted losses of animal life was huge. “Climate change may cause serious new problems with ocean resource (资源) use and food safety as the human population continues to grow,” said Baum. Marine biologist Boris Worm, who helped run the study, added that those marine animals that we used directly and cared about most deeply, were predicted to be most affected.
Former computer-based studies looked at only part of the picture or used only one model. The latest study used six different computer models to give the best picture look, William Cheungn said.
46. Which of the following words can be used to describe the study?
A. Well-known. B. Experimental.
C. All-sided. D. Scientific.
47. From the findings, we can know that ________.
A. biologists have noticed a great change in the air
B. the speed of worldwide greenhouse gas production is slowing
C. the warmer the world’s oceans are, the lower their biomass is
D. the world’s oceans will lose most of their creatures in 100 years
48. Professor Julia Baum ________.
A. is a co-author of the study
B. thought the study was meaningful
C. paid more attention to seafood safety
D. failed to realize the importance of climate change
49. What can we infer from William Cheung’s words?
A. The findings work as a call for action.
B. More fish that we usually eat will die in the future.
C. The latest study provided better picture than ever.
D. The new study is the first one to be carried out on computers.
50. The passage mainly tells us ________.
A. ocean warming may greatly reduce sea life
B. how hard marine biologists carry out the study
C. the pollution of worldwide oceans is serious now
D. how people’s lives affect the world’s oceans
【答案】46. D 47. C 48. B 49. C 50. A

【48题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“University of Victoria biology professor Julia Baum was not part of the study, but she said the findings made sense. (维多利亚大学生物学教授Julia Baum没有参与这项研究,但她说研究结果是有意义的。)”可知,Julia Baum认为这项研究很有意义。故选B。
【49题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“The latest study used six different computer models to give the best picture look (最新的研究使用了六种不同的计算机模型,以提供最佳画面效果)”可知,最新的研究提供了比以往更好的画面效果。故选C。

第四部分 写作 (共两节,满分30分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读表达
How many sandwiches does it take to make a pyramid (金字塔)? Three. How many sandwiches does it take to bring your mom on a trip to see the pyramids? Considerably more. Still, that didn’t stop one son from making it happen.
Gloria Walker always dreamed of traveling to Giza to see the pyramids, but more than that, she wanted to take her family along. Sadly, Walker was diagnosed with terminal cancer (癌症晚期) last year. Between the cost of travel and the limitations of her illness, that trip of a lifetime didn’t appear likely in the 56-year-old’s future.
But her son Dustin was determined to make his mom’s dream come true. He just needed to figure out a way to make it happen. So what better way than making and selling his favorite sandwich using his mom’ recipe, of course - to raise the money?
With sale days starting at 4 a. m. to bake homemade rolls, the entire family had been pitching in: Dustin and his wife Halley shared griddle (煎锅) duty; his father helped out with preparation. Dustin’s brother, sister, and children, along with some friends, had all been working to meet the goal.
Dustin began to record the team efforts for Instagram, soon gathering a growing circle of sandwich-loving supporters. After that, demand (需求) increased greatly. Without an advanced kitchen, Dustin found it hard to keep up with it. That was when a local food truck owner stepped in with an offer to let Dustin and his family work out of his mobile cooking facility. Over the course of six weeks, the group raised $18,000 - enough for Dustin to take the family to Egypt with money to spare. They would be setting out at the beginning of May.
This experience changed his mom’s life. However, Dustin has no plans to change his profession as a result. “So many people say, ‘Are you going to jump into this and open up a shop?’” Dustin said. “I could never. My heart and love is teaching and for the students.”
51. What was Gloria Walker’s dream? (no more than 8 words)
________________________________________________________________

A. Time will tell

How many sandwiches does it take to make a pyramid (金字塔)? Three. How many sandwiches does it take to bring your mom on a trip to see the pyramids? Considerably more. Still that didn’t stop one son from making it happen.
