My brother Matthew was becoming a teenager. Now everything was changing. He spent most of his time indoors talking on the phone. He refused to dive after the football for fear of getting his jeans dirty when we played catch. Yet I kept expecting to return to the past when I was his hero, his big brother and -his best friend. It was tough facing the fact that I was no longer the center of my brother's universe, and I worried about where I fit in his new life.
I discovered the answer during Matthew's seventh-grade year, when he attended a summer camp and I served as a volunteer.
He was usually the cenier of attention, blowing straw wrappers at all of his friends and showing off football skills. He was the kid everybody knew and loved. It was happy for him, But I barely saw my brother the whole week. I felt being cast aside like an old shoe. I was the one who had taught Manhew how to blow the wrappers of straws off and play football. I had been with him for every major moment in his life until now, and suddenly it was as if none of that mattered.
Then, on the last evening, Matthew called me as I was leaving. "Chris! We're gonnia play football. You have to come!" I blinked in surprise. "Are you sure? Won’t embarrass you?" I asked. "It doesn't matter. Just play." he replied. smiling.
I followed Matthew to the football field. When his cool new friends saw me. they laughed. "I thought you were getting a real player!" one of the guys shouted, eyes widening with disbelief.
"He's my brother," was Marthew's reply. "And he's really good!"
I wound up on the opposite team from Matthew. Still, I wanted to score a hundred touchdowns to prove to my brother that his faith in me wasn't misplaced. Unfortunately, I never got that chance. The guys on my team simply refused to pass the ball to an older man. Exactly they wouldn't let me anywhere near it。

第一篇
That football game might have been the most frustrating one I'd ever played. I felt like an outsider on my own team, chasing after a ball that never came my way. The jeers and laughter from the other boys stung, but what hurt most was the thought that I might be losing my connection with Matthew. As the final whistle blew, I trudged off the field, my head hung low. But then, Matthew jogged up to me, his face flushed with excitement. "Hey, Chris, don't let them get to you. You're still my favorite brother, and that game doesn't change anything." His words were like a balm to my wounded pride.
"He's my brother!" Matthew said proudly to all his friends. He then grabbed my arm and led me towards the camp cafeteria. "Let's go grab a soda. I want to hear about what you've been up to." As we walked, he told me how much he had missed our old times together and how he was sorry if he had made me feel left out. That evening, we sat under the stars, sharing stories and laughing. I realized that our relationship was evolving, but the love between us was as strong as ever. We might not be as close as we once were, but we were still brothers, and that was something no one could take away.
第二篇
That football game might have been the most frustrating one I'd ever played. My teammates' indifference made me feel invisible, and I was sure Matthew would be disappointed. But as the game ended, Matthew rushed over to me. "Chris, I know it was tough out there, but thanks for playing. You mean more to me than any of these guys." His eyes were sincere, and I could see that he genuinely cared. We started walking back to the cabins, and he told me about his week at camp, sharing details he hadn't bothered with before.
"He's my brother!" Matthew said proudly to all his friends. Then he turned to me and said, "Let's go to the lake. I want to show you something." We walked to the water's edge, and he pointed out the constellations he had learned about. As we lay on the grass, looking up at the sky, he said, "I know things have been different, but you'll always be my big brother. I love you." In that moment, I understood that growing up doesn't mean growing apart. Our bond was unbreakable, and we would face the changes of life together, with love and understanding as our guide.
