B I first “met” Wang Jian through the documentary From Mao to Mozart, an award-winning account of the musical journey taken by violinist Isaac Stern through China in 1979. In it, eleven-year-old Wang Jian performed in front of one of the most famous artists in the world with confidence and focus. It was a memorable experience. Many years later, as I was looking through the Haydn section in a record shop one day, an unforgettable face on a CD cover caught my eye. I immediately recognised it as Wang Jian’s and it was quite unexpected. His eyes had remained very much the same as those of the little boy on the stage some twenty years ago. As I was a lover of Cello (大提琴) Concertos, needless to say, his recordings became my favourite. I was very lucky to find myself a passenger on the same Music Cruise Wang Jian was performing on a few years ago. I still remember experiencing his performance of Schubert’s Arpeggione during a stormy crossing of the Mediterranean. My stomach was trying to deal with the ups and downs of the sea, while he fought his own discomfort by sinking (使沉入) himself in his performance. Of course, it is the best Arpeggione I have ever heard. I was once told that an artist can be an extremely different person from the music he or she plays. I used to doubt that, but after several experiences, I’ve reconsidered this opinion. I still remember a Russian pianist, extremely talented, with whom I had a drink following his concert. The memory of his superficial (肤浅的) conversation paired with rude laughter still frightens me. But Wang Jian is different. I found him to be just the person his beautiful music would suggest. He plays in a simple, clean and sincere way. Despite his success and fame (名声), he remains simple, friendly, and generous — a real gentleman and a well-respected artist. 24. How did the author first know of Wang Jian? A. He came across him in a journey. B. He learned about him from a film. C. He met him at an award ceremony. D. He read about him in a violinist’s story. 25. How did the author feel when he saw Wang Jian’s CD? A. Proud. B. Surprised. C. Curious. D. Doubtful. 26. What quality of Wang Jian impressed the author on the Music Cruise? A. His generosity. B. His confidence. C. His concentration. D. His friendliness. 27. What does the author want to express in the last two paragraphs? A. Wang Jian will win more popularity. B. The pianist is not so talented as Wang Jian. C. We should never judge an artist by his looks. D. Wang Jian’s characters are as good as his music. C Every summer, my family and I visit our relatives in India and whenever we travel, my parents always remind me to drink only bottled or boiled water. On one of my trips to India, I saw children drinking water from the roadside. I was troubled to learn that millions of people, most of them children in developing countries, die each year because of water related diseases. Living in the US, I am lucky to be able to turn on the tap and get potable water(饮用水), while one sixth of the world's population lacks access to clean water. This year, I entered the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. In late June, I learned that I was selected as one of the top 10 national finalists of this famous middle school science competition. Over the summer, I worked with Dr. Jim Jonza, my Scientist mentor(导师) from 3M, and developed a system that uses solar energy to purify water. My invention is green and cost effective, and I am looking forward to implementing this in places that are affected(影响) by harmful water pollution. In October, my family and I flew to 3M Headquarters in St Paul, Minnesota, where the final event was to be held. For the last challenge, each of us had to present the invention we had been working on over the summer. The first place winner would win $25,000, a trip to Costa Rica, and the title of America’s Top Young Scientist. At the awards ceremony, all of us waited anxiously until one of the judges, Danny Forester, started announcing “The winner of the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge is.... ”You could hear a pin(大头针) drop as he opened the paper with the winner’ s name, “Deepika Kurup!” As America’s Top Young Scientist I was given an opportunity to show my invention on national television and deliver several presentations. One of the most important things I have learned is that communication and teamwork are key to success. 28. Why does the author mention her visits to India? A. To express her great love for India B. To show the problem of unclean water. C. To explain the importance of relatives D. To compare eastern and western cultures 29. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “implementing” in Paragraph 2? A. Researching B. Changing C. Finishing D. Using 30. How did the audience react as Forester opened the paper with the winner’s name? A. They appeared calm B. They let out shouts of joy C They sat quiet D. They dropped pins to the author 31. How is the text mainly organized? A. In order of time B. In order of complexity(复杂性) C. In order of place D. In order of importance D Sometimes a person who thinks in an unusual way can look at the world from a different point of view. Such was Richard Phillips Feynman, a role model change maker. Born in 1918, he began showing some unusual qualities. The first sign of Feynman’s unique qualities was that he hadn’t yet spoken by age three. But young Feynman showed a talent for math and engineering. He enjoyed repairing household objects, and built a simple laboratory in his room. By the time he was in high school, he was experimenting things which were only taught to college students. After Richard Feynman graduated from high school in 1939, he studied at the MIT. Despite the fact that his grades in science and math were “the best that we’ve seen,” according to Princeton, he was almost rejected due to his very poor grades in writing and his Jewish religion. Finally, he was accepted and continued to study physics at Princeton where he got his PhD. His lectures attracted many great scientists of the time, including Albert Einstein. At Princeton, Feynman began his most famous work: his work on nuclear weapons. He moved to a lab and not all of his work there has been released to the public, but we know he performed experiments related to uranium. After the war, Feynman taught at Cornell University, where he continued his studies. He was also awarded the Nobel Prize for his work in particle physics. Then, in 1978, Feynman developed cancer and died a year later. Though Feynman and his work are honored by physicists across the world, his personal qualities and skills are what really makes him unique. Faced with all the challenges, he never gave up, doing work that he loved until the day he died. 32. What do we know about Richard Phillips Feynman from the text? A. Young Feynman showed his talent in every field. B. Feynman won the Nobel Prize after the war ended. C. Young Feynman enjoyed managing household a lot. D. Feynman was diagnosed with cancer and died at the age of 60. 33. Why was Feynman admitted by Princeton? A. Because he was a Jewish. B. Because he graduated from the MIT. C. Because he was very gifted in math and science. D. Because his lecture attracted many great scientists. 34. Which words can best describe Richard Feynman? A. Selfless and friendly. B. Talented and stubborn. C. Intelligent and devoted. D. Strong-willed and humorous. 35. What may be the best title of the text? A. Richard Feynman’s Unusual Qualities B. Richard Feynman — A Respected Scientist C. A Touching Story About Richard Feynman D. The Influence of Richard Feynman What makes a good scientist? My name is Clara. They’d known each other since Brittany moved next door in 2nd grade. They hung out almost every day after school when they were getting along. They were very different people. Alexa did great with her school work, read a lot of books, and took ballet classes. Brittany, on the other hand, would rather play soccer, chat with other kids at school, and rarely sat still for long enough to finish reading a chapter of a book. Often, Alexa and Brittany would play together at the park across the street. They’d play on the equipment, or play soccer. If it was raining outside, they’d go in one of their houses to play video games, or do their nails. Some days they could spend hours together without a single problem, but other days they just could not agree on what to do. One day, Alexa said. “Come on, let’s play on the equipment. We’ve played soccer for the last three days!” “They just cut the grass, I love playing soccer when the grass is nice and short. I don’t want to play on the equipment,” Brittany replied. “We always do what you want to do, Brittany. It’s my turn to choose.” Alexa was getting frustrated. “Fine, go play on the equipment by yourself! I’m playing soccer,” Brittany shouted. Alexa left. She was really angry. When she got home, she realized she still had Brittany’s notebook. “Well, I’m not giving it back today. I’m too mad at her.” Alexa thought. The next day at school, their teacher asked for their notebooks. Brittany didn’t have hers, and asked Mrs. Stone if she could bring it in tomorrow instead. Mrs. Stone let them have just one late assignment a month, but Brittany had already used hers. Brittany looked upset. Alexa was having an internal (内心的) conflict. She knew she should tell Mrs. Stone that she had the notebook, but she was still mad at Brittany for not agreeing with her at the park yesterday. At last, she decided to admit her mistake. When it was time for lunch, Alexa talked with Mrs. Stone. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After school, Mrs. Stone sat down and talked with the two girls. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 仁怀市第四中学2024-2025学年度第一学期10月月考 高二年级英语试题 总分:150分 时间:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节, 每小题1.5分,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题,每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 What does the man think of Linda’s husband? B 25. B 26. C 27. 根据第一段中“I first ‘met’ Wang Jian through the documentary From Mao to Mozart, an award-winning account of the musical journey taken by violinist Isaac Stern through China in 1979. I used to doubt that, but after several experiences, I’ve reconsidered this opinion. (我曾经被告知,一个艺术家可以从他或她演奏的音乐中成为一个完全不同的人。我曾经对此表示怀疑,但经过几次经历后,我重新考虑了这个观点)”提到,作者曾经承认了艺术家可能与其演奏的音乐不同这一观点,结合最后一段中“But Wang Jian is different. I found him to be just the person his beautiful music would suggest. (但王健不一样。我发现他正是他那美妙的音乐所暗示的那种人)”可知,此处提到王建不一样,他正是他那美妙的音乐所暗示的那种人,故最后两段旨在表明王建的为人和他的音乐一样好。故选D。 C Every summer, my family and I visit our relatives in India and whenever we travel, my parents always remind me to drink only bottled or boiled water. ”You could hear a pin(大头针) drop as he opened the paper with the winner’ s name, “Deepika Kurup!” As America’s Top Young Scientist, I was given an opportunity to show my invention on national television and deliver several presentations. One of the most important things I have learned is that communication and teamwork are key to success. 28. Why does the author mention her visits to India? A. To express her great love for India B. 35 What may be the best title of the text? A. Richard Feynman’s Unusual Qualities B. Richard Feynman — A Respected Scientist C. A Touching Story About Richard Feynman D. The Influence of Richard Feynman 【答案】32. B 33. C 34. C 35. 根据第四段中“After the war, Feynman taught at Cornell University, where he continued his studies. He was also awarded the Nobel Prize for his work in particle physics.(战后,费曼在康奈尔大学任教,继续他的学业。他还因在粒子物理学方面的工作而获得诺贝尔奖)”可知,费曼是在战后获得诺贝尔奖的。故选B。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Despite the fact that his grades in science and math were “the best that we’ve seen,” according to Princeton, he was almost rejected due to his very poor grades in writing and his Jewish religion.(尽管他在科学和数学方面的成绩是“我们见过的最好的”,但根据普林斯顿大学的说法,他几乎被拒绝,因为他在写作方面的成绩很差,以及他的犹太信仰)”可知,费曼被普林斯顿录取是因为他在数学和科学方面很有天赋。 根据第二段中“But young Feynman showed a talent for math and engineering.(但年轻的费曼在数学和工程方面表现出了天赋)”以及第三段中“Despite the fact that his grades in science and math were “the best that we’ve seen,” according to Princeton, he was almost rejected due to his very poor grades in writing and his Jewish religion.(尽管他在科学和数学方面的成绩是“我们见过的最好的”,但根据普林斯顿大学的说法,他几乎被拒绝,因为他在写作方面的成绩很差,以及他的犹太信仰)”可知,他很聪明;结合第四、五段可看出费曼从普林斯顿大学读博到之后工作都致力于研究物理、教授物理。 根据最后一段“Then, in 1978, Feynman developed cancer and died a year later. Though Feynman and his work are honored by physicists across the world, his personal qualities and skills are what really makes him unique. Faced with all the challenges, he never gave up, doing work that he loved until the day he died.(1978年,费曼罹患癌症,一年后去世。 What makes a good scientist? I have wondered about what makes a good scientist. ____36____. Patience ____37____. They have patience for others, patience for themselves and patience when things go wrong. A few years ago, when I worked on a NASA mission, we sent a spacecraft to bring back a sample of an asteroid, which are rocky objects that travel around the sun. The spacecraft reached the asteroid in 2018 and returned with a piece of the asteroid in 2021. Then scientists studied it. Scientific discoveries do not take place overnight. Many are small and go slowly. Missions often take years to complete. ____38____. Being Open To Others A good scientist has an open mind. It can be easy to ignore people you do not agree with. But we should be open to new ideas and ask people what they think. ____39____ . Moreover, we should learn from our mistakes. Success almost never comes quickly or easily. Chances are you’ll stumble many times first, but that’s OK because making mistakes is part of learning. Curiosity Good scientists are curious, but we should also be curious in our daily lives. When we are curious about other people, we can care about them. We can become more understanding. After all, it is easy to be kind. You can do it anywhere, and a kind action can make someone’s day. You don’t know what people are going through unless you find out. So, ask questions about everything. Ask your friends how they’re doing. Ask yourself what makes you feel alive. Above all, make sure to pay attention to the world and the people around you. ____40____. It is our superpower, and also what makes us human. A. A good scientist has patience B. Don’t be ashamed of being curious C. Sometimes being open can be very harmful D. That is why having patience is so important E. Ask your workmates to have lunch with you F. Many are small and go slowly. Missions often take years to complete.(科学的发现并不是在一夜之间发生的。 【39题详解】 根据空前“A good scientist has an open mind. It can be easy to ignore people you do not agree with. But we should be open to new ideas and ask people what they think.(一个好的科学家会有一个开放的心态。 承接上文,而且G项中的“this”指代上文的“we should be open to new ideas and ask people what they think.”,符合上下文语境。 根据空后“It is our superpower, and also what makes us human.(这是我们的超能力,也是让我们成为人类的原因。)” B项“Don’t be ashamed of being curious.(不要因为好奇而感到羞耻。) Our son, Andrew, was always very active and loved playing sports. You cannot imagine how meaningful and interesting it was! We were tasked to draw or paint something that impressed us most. Inspired by the fantastic scenery, I decided to create a watercolor painting of the small bridge over the park’s pond, surrounded by blooming flowers. The entire experience was incredibly refreshing. I felt a deep sense of peace as I painted. In a word, it was not just an art class; it was a moment of connection with nature that I truly cherished. How have your classes been lately? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When it was time for lunch, Alexa talked with Mrs. Stone. “Mrs. Stone, I have Brittany’s note-book. I should have said something earlier, but Brittany and I had a problem yesterday, and I’m still mad at her. Would you be able to help us solve our problem?” Alexa asked. “Thank you for being honest, Alexa.” Mrs. Stone kept saying, “I’m sure Brittany would appreciate it if you give me her notebook. It’s really hard to solve a problem by yourself when you’re still feeling upset, so let me help you.” After school, Mrs. Stone sat down and talked with the two girls. They each revealed that they got frustrated with the other person a lot because they didn’t always want to do the same things, but they never really solved their problem. Mrs. Stone talked to them and helped them realize that maybe they didn’t have to play together every day to be best friends. Alexa and Brittany agreed and decided to take turns picking the activity. They also realized friends should seek common points while reserving differences and should always bear in mind the interest of others. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解决:solve/settle/resolve/deal with ②记住:bear in mind/keep in mind/remember ③承认:reveal/admit/acknowledge 情绪类 ①对……很生气:be mad at/be angry with ②对 ……感到沮丧:get frustrated with/be disappointed at 【点睛】【高分句型1】I’m sure Brittany would appreciate it if you give me her notebook.(使用了it作形式宾语if条件句作真正宾语的结构) 【高分句型2】They also realized friends should seek common points while reserving differences and should always bear in mind the interest of others.(使用了省略引导词that的宾语从句) 【高分句型3】It’s really hard to solve a problem by yourself when you’re still feeling upset, so let me help you.”(使用了it作形式主语不定式作真正主语的结构)” 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
