Geo Rutherford's short video series "Scary Lakes"has become a huge hit, receiving over
70 million likes and 1.7 million followers. In her exploration, she reveals the scariness within
lakes that comes from natural elements rather than fictional monsters.Let's explore some of
the remarkable lakes she features:
1.Lake Baikal,Siberian Russia
It's the world's oldest and deepest freshwater lake. With more than 300 rivers flowing
nto it,one might expect it to be filled with sediment(沉腚物),but it's located on a valley
that's pulling apart. The valley's movement causes the sediment to be drawn into the Earth,
maintaining the lake's great depth. The actual bottom of the valley that contains this lake is
potentially one of the deepest in the world.
2.Lake Vostok,Antarctica
It's under two miles of ice. It's a fascinating place that we can't possibly imaginc. For
more than 20 years,Russian scientists tried to drill a hole down to this lake.Russians could
barely reach it properly because when they dig the ice to the lake, the water flows back into
the hole and freezes.
3.Lake Superior,United States
Lake Superior is different from the other Great Lakes because of its late season storms.
In November, there are these crazy snowstorms that make ships disappear under the surface.
Even though it's only 500 feet below the surface, you're not allowed to visit it because it can
be considered a bury yard for those who died there.
21.What prevents Lake Baikal from being filled with sediment?
A.The location on a moving valley.
B.The depth of the lake.
C.The flowing rate of the lake water.
D.The strong water flow of the 300 rivers.
22.What makes Lake Superior different from the other Great Lakes?
A.Its surface.
B.Its snowstorms.C.The sunk ship.D.A bury yard.

For 78-year-old Wang Gaiying, the remote ancicnt building in Gaoping,Shanxi Province,
is not only a hidden architectural treasure but also her home for the past 58 years. Its 24
vividly detailed statues have become popular online recently. With the main hall built in 1168,
the structure was repaired and expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911).
Thanks to its recent popularity, the once-damaged building was restored and opened to the
public on Aug.24.Now many people come to admire it every day.
As more people visit,Wang's devotion to preserving the structure has gone viral and hit
national headlines, giving a lot of publicity to these caretakers of the country's cultural

tour guide after graduating from college, joining her grandmother and mother in safeguarding it.
In some ancient buildings that are not open to the public in the quiet mountains and
countryside of Shanxi, more than 3,000 grassroots protectors like Wang Gaiying care for

Two researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics on Oct.8,2024,for their
pioneering work in the field of artificial neural (networks.Though artificial neural
networks are modeled on biological neural networks, both researchers'work drew on
statistical physics, therefore the prize in physics.
The physicist John Hopfield used ideas from physics to study a particular type of ncural
network, now called the Hopfield network. In particular,he studied what happens to the
network over time.During the 1980s,Geoffrey Hinton and his colleagues built on Hopfield's
ideas to create a new class of model.Unlike Hopfield networks that could store patterns and
correct errors in patterns, the new model could generate new patterns, thereby planting the
seeds of the modern generative AI revolution.
Hinton was also part of another breakthrough that happened in the 1980s,which is a key
algorithm (that makes it possible to select weights based on the performance of the
network on a training data set. However,it remained challenging to train artificial neural
networks with many layers. In the 2000s,Hinton and his co-workers cleverly discovered an
approach, and the deep learning revolution had begun.
The Nobel Prize in physics shows how ideas from physics contributed to the rise of deep
learning. Now deep learning has begun to pay back to physics by enabling accurate and fast
simulations (of systems ranging from molecules and materials all the way to the entire
Earth's climate.By awarding the Nobel Prize in physics to Hopfield and Hinton, the prize
committee has signaled its hope in humanity's potential to use these adyances to promote
human well-being and to build a sustainable world.
28.Why were the two scientists awarded the Noble Prize in physics?
A.They discovered neural networks.
B.They invented artificial neural networks.
C.They are excellent experts in statistical physics.
D.They used methods in physics to study artificial neural networks.
29.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.Geoffrey Hinton's researcb.
B.John Hopfield's achievement.
C.How modern generative Al revolution began.
D.The cooperation between John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton.
30.What has led to the deep learning revolution according to the passage?
A.Deciding on a training data set.
B.Training artificial neural networks.
C.Hinton's breakthrough in the 1980s.
D.Finding a way to train multi-layer artificial neural networks.

Math might be a constant in school, but how it is taught has changed a lot in recent
years. One primary motivation for those changes-including the 2010 passage of the Common
Core math educational standards-is to prepare students for a more unpredictable and complex
future.
"Mostly gone are the days when teachers would lecture at the front of the classroom
while students quietly took notes. Now,teachers present a few concepts, and then students
work together to solve problems in different ways, says Maria Klawe, president of Math for
America,a nonprofit dedicated to helping math and science teachers.
However, for many parents, helping their kids with homework has become daunting,as
modern methods seem unfamiliar from what they learned in school.A 2021 survey showed
more than half of parents feel hopeless when trying to help their kids with homework. So,
how is today's math different--and why is it so essential for tomorrow's socicty?
Before Common Core math,"Answers were valucd over process,"says Jyung,a math
teacher.Students were taught to follow strict,step-by-step methods to obtain the correct
answer, but these didn't necessarily make sense to them. But when that approach is used,
"Students are unable to apply the concepts to real-world problems or unable to solve very
highly complex math problems,"she says.
Under Common Core, the focus has shifted.Perhaps the biggest change, though,is the
way students tackle problems.Instead of just a handful of methods,Jyung now sees students
using various strategies to solve problems-giving them the freedom to choose the best
approach. Now,even mistakes are part of the learning process."As math educators,we
believe in productive struggle, like struggling is actually good. That's where learning
happens,”she says,.
32.What does the Common Core math educational standards aim to achieve?
A.Equip students with the ability to solve problems.
B.Motivate students to study harder.
C.Prepare students for future exams.
D.Improve students'scores.
33.What does the underlined word "daunting"in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Rewarding.
B.Satisfying.
C.Discouraging.
D.Embarrassing.
【高.一英语第6页(共10页)】
34.What was the problem of the old method?
A.The method is too strict.
B.Students find it challenging.
C.The math problems are too complex.
D.Students can rarely apply math knowledge to practical problems.
35.What does the author intend to express in the last paragraph?
A.Remembering various strategies is the key to solving problems.
B.Students have the freedom to choose what to learn.
C.Math knowledge is less important than tackling problems.
D.Mistakes are a significant part of learning.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

选项。
Have you ever dealt with a simple misunderstanding that could have been avoided with
more communication?Effective communication is about expressing your feelings clearly and
accurately while listening to another person's body language and perspectives.36
Organize your thoughts before speaking.
Before you attempt to communicate ideas, organize your thoughts using key points.A
good rule of thumb is to choose three main points to center your conversation around.37
This will help you stay on topic and be crystal clear about your intent.
Be clear and concise when speaking.
Be clear about your goal,so your message comes across in a way that every listener can
understand.38 Similarly, you want to speak at a volume level that is guaranteed to be
heard and doesn't come across as too quiet or too loud.
Maintain eye contact.
Eye contact helps convince others you're trustworthy and shows interest.39 For
example,if you're addressing an audience, pause and make eye contact with a member of the
audience for up to two seconds before breaking away and continuing your talk. This helps
individuals feel personally valued.
40
Be conscious of what your hands are saying as you speak. Some hand gestures can effectively
highlight your points(open gestures),while others may shut down the conversation (closed
gestures).Similarly,be aware of if your eyes wander or if you're constantly rocking. These
small gestures add up and are all guaranteed to reduce the effectiveness of your message.
A.Mind where you put your hands.
B.Pay attention to non-verbal communication.
C.Eye contact plays an important role in communication.
【高二英语第7页(共10页)】
D.This requires using simpler words rather than more complex ones.
E.If possible, write your talking points down on your notebook for reference.
F.This guide can teach you the basics so you can get your point across quickly and calmly
G.During a conversation or presentation, maintain eye contact for as long as it feels natural.

I grew up in a small town where the primary school was a ten-minute walk from my
house. When the noon bell rang,I would race breathlessly home.My mother would be
standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.
One lunchtime when I was in the third grade will always stay with me.I had been picked
to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed my lines
so hard with me.But no matter how easily I acted at home,as soon as I stepped onstage,
every word disappeared from my head. Finally,my teacher took me aside. She explained that
she had written a narrator's part to the play, and asked me to change roles. Her words,
kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day.But she
sensed my pain.Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in
the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (was turning green.Under the huge
trees,we could see yellow dandelions (in the grass in bunches,as if a painter had
touched our landscape with dabs of gold.I watched my mother casually bend down by one
dandelion."I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds,"she said, pulling it up by its roots.
"From now on,we'll have only roses in this garden.
“But I like dandelions,”I protested,“All flowers are beautiful,.even dandelions..”
My mother looked at me seriously."Yes,every flower gives pleasure in its own way,
doesn't it?"She asked thoughtfully.I nodded,pleased that I had won her over."And that is
true of people too,"she added."Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in
that."Relieved that she had guessed my pain,I started to cry as I told her what had
happened.She listened and smiled reassuringly.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
"But you will be a beautiful narrator,"she said.
