Countries are poorer when children do not go to school. Each year, countries lose up to $130 billion. The UN says there is a global “learning crisis”. In one-third of countries, 75% of primary school teachers do not have enough training. The UN says it is important “to focus on quality”. Most children not going to school are girls. Countries get richer if girls go to school — up to 25% richer in 40 years. Almost two thirds of girls in Arab countries and parts of Africa may never go to school. In Yemen, just 36% of girls can read and write. Reuters says poorer girls in developing countries won’t be able to read or write until 2072. The good news is that in Laos, Rwanda and Vietnam, the number of children not going to school has fallen by 85% in the last five years. 第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15题,每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 A Sharon, Aged 22 The most important thing to keep in mind when you go to high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school life was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so that you can achieve your goal. Frank, Aged 21 I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day of high school. But don’t worry, you will probably love it. You can join in some activities that will make your high school life more enjoyable. Good luck! Eddie, Aged 20 When I started high school I was really nervous, since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it. David, Aged 19 I’m not going to lie. The first day of high school is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid and just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. 21. What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school? A. Teachers are quite strict. B. Students often stay up late at night. C. Teachers provide little care for their students. D. Students should make good use of their time. 22. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school? A. Excited. B. Bored. C. Relaxed. D. Worried. 23. Who mentions the importance of friends? A. Frank. B. David. C. Sharon. D. Eddie. 【答案】21. D 22. D 23. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是应用文。文中的四人对自己刚开始上高中的情形进行了回忆并对此话题发表了看法。 【21题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so that you can achieve your goal.(最好学会处理事情,明智地管理时间,这样你才能实现目标。)”可知,Sharon认为在高中阶段需要学会合理安排自己的时间。故选D。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“When I started high school, I was really nervous, since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone.(当我开始上高中的时候,我真的很紧张,因为我整个初中都在家上学,而且不认识任何人。)”可知,Eddie在第一天上高中时感到很紧张、担心。故选D。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly.(交一些朋友并和他们呆在一起,这会极大地帮助你快速适应高中。)”可知,David提到结交朋友的重要性。故选B。 B Friendships can have a major influence on your health and happiness, but it’s not always easy to develop or maintain (维持) friendships. It’s necessary to understand the importance of social connection in your life and how to meet new friends. Good friends are good for your health. Friends can help you celebrate good times and provide support during bad times. Friends prevent isolation and loneliness and give you a chance to offer companionship (陪伴), too. Friends also play an important role in improving your overall health. Adults with strong social connections have a reduced risk of many serious health problems, including depression, high blood pressure and an unhealthy body mass index (BMI), and they can even live longer. Despite those benefits, many adults find it hard to keep up existing friendships or develop new friendships. Friendships may give way to other priorities (优先事项), such as work or caring for children or aging parents. You and your friends may have grown apart (疏远) due to changes in your lives or interests. Or maybe you’ve moved to a new community and haven’t yet found a way to meet people. Maintaining and developing good friendships takes effort. The enjoyment and comfort friendship can provide, however, makes the investment worthwhile. So, what are some ways to meet new friends? It’s possible to develop friendships with people who are already in your social network. Think through people you know of — even very casually. Who made a positive impression? If anyone interests you and you’d like to know better about him or her, reach out. Ask mutual (相互的,彼此的) friends to share the person’s contact information , or — even better — to reintroduce the two of you with a text, email or in-person visit. To meet new people who might become your friends, you have to go to places where others are gathered. Don’t limit yourself to one strategy for meeting people. The broader your efforts are, the greater your chance of success is. Take an active action rather than waiting for invitations to come your way and keep trying. 24. What does the underlined word “isolation” in the second paragraph probably mean? A. Challenge. B. Relaxation. C. Separation. D. Determination. 25. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. Friendship can help people live longer. B. Support from friends during tough times. C. Suggestions on how to make friends. D. Friendship can benefit people’s health. 26. How many difficulties in developing and maintaining friendships are mentioned in Paragraph 3? A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5. 27. Which of the following way of making friends is mentioned in the passage? A. Share your personal contact information online. B. Wait for invitations to come your way. C. Contact those who ever impressed you a lot. D. Make one strategy for meeting people. 【答案】24. C 25. D 26. It carried three astronauts on a trip to the China Space Station. After about 10 minutes, the Shenzhou-19 spacecraft separated from the rocket and entered its designated orbit (轨道). This meant the launch was a success! The China Space Station will welcome the new Shenzhou-19 crew, led by experienced astronaut Cai Xuzhe and newcomers Song Lingdong and female astronaut Wang Haoze, about 6.5 hours after takeoff. Commander (指令长) Cai is going back to space just 22 months after his last trip, which is a record for the shortest time between missions in the history of Chinese astronauts. Song and Wang, both born in 1990, are on their first space mission. Wang is also China’s first female spaceflight engineer. This is the fourth time that astronauts have flown to the space station to work and do experiments, and it’s the 33rd mission in China’s manned space program. The main tasks include switching crews with the Shenzhou-18 astronauts, staying on the station for six months, doing space experiments, going outside the spacecraft and managing cargo (货物) and so on. After launch, Shenzhou-19 will connect to the Tianhe module of the space station about 6.5 hours later. During their stay, they will get supplies from the Tianzhou-8 cargo spacecraft and be visited by the Shenzhou-20 crew. They will come back to Earth in late April or early May. The Shenzhou-18 crew will return to Earth on November 4 after the new crew arrives. For this mission, the developers made the Shenzhou-19 spacecraft better by improving its design, so it can carry more supplies. This helps the astronauts and makes the space station work more effectively. 28. What does the underlined word “designated” mean in the second paragraph? A. Planned B. Named C. Changed D. Tested 29. What is Wang Haoze’s special achievement? A. She is the young. B. She is the first female leader. C. She is China’s first female spaceflight engineer. D. She has flown to the space station four times 30. Which of the following statements is TRUE? A. Shenzhou-19 separated from the rocket after 20 minutes B. Cai Xuzhe is on his first space mission. C. The Shenzhou-18 will return on November 14. D. Improvements in the spacecraft design allow it to carry more supplies. 31. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? A. A Successful Launch of Shenzhou-19 B. The History of China’s Space Exploration C. The Main Tasks of Shenzhou-19 Crew D. The Development of China’s Space Technology 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. D 31. It carried three astronauts on a trip to the China Space Station.(周三清晨,一枚名为长征2FY19的大型火箭从中国西北部的酒泉起飞。它搭载了三名宇航员前往中国空间站)”结合文章主要介绍了神舟19号飞船发射的情况以及相关人员信息。可知,A选项“神舟19号成功发射”最符合文章标题。故选A。 D Losing weight has become a major concern for so many people. People try different weight loss methods all the time, some of which will never work, while others provide just a temporary solution. You can join in some activities that will make your high school life more enjoyable. Good luck! Eddie, Aged 20 When I started high school, I was really nervous, since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it. David, Aged 19 I’m not going to lie. Despite those benefits many adults find it hard to keep up existing friendships or develop new friendships. 26. Share your personal contact information online. B. Wait for invitations to come your way. C. Contact those who ever impressed you a lot. D. Make one strategy for meeting people. C Early on Wednesday morning, a big rocket called Long March-2FY19 took off from Jiuquan in Northwest China. After launch, Shenzhou-19 will connect to the Tianhe module of the space station about 6.5 hours later. The Shenzhou-18 crew will return to Earth on November 4 after the new crew arrives.
