You could help to clean up the city parks. 1) could 是情态动词can的过去式形式，表示过去的能力。它没有人称和数的变化，后面接动词原形。变否定句在could后加not, 变一般疑问句把could提前。 eg. The boy could ride a bike when he was seven. 这个男孩七岁时就会骑自行车。 Could you speak Japanese the year before last year? 前年你会讲日语吗？ 【注意】在某些情况下，could 并不表示过去，只是表示委婉、 客气的语气。其肯定答语用：Sure./ Certainly./ All right.等。 否定答语用：Sorry./Sorry, I can’t.等。 eg. — Could you tell me if he is a student? 你能告诉我他是不是学生吗？ — Sure. 当然可以。 2) clean up是省去 to 的动词不定式，意为“（把……）打扫干净”、“梳理整齐”。 eg. We must clean up the playground every morning. 他必须每天把操场打扫得干干净净。 【注意】如果在clean和up间加个连字符号，那么，它就是名词了，表示“扫除”。 eg. You must give your classroom a good clean-up. 你必须对教室进行彻底地打扫。 3. They told me stories about the past and how things used to be. used to do sth. 过去常常做某事; 表示过去习惯性、经常性的动作或状态，暗指现在已经不存在。used无人称和时态的变化。 e.g. I used to go to the Youth Center. But I have no time now. 我过去经常去青少年中心，但现在我没有时间了。 Grandparents used to tell us stories when we were very young. 在我们小时候祖父母常给我们讲故事听。 4. Yeah, a lot of old people are lonely. lonely adj. 孤独的；寂寞的。指精神上感觉孤独、寂寞。 e.g. The old man feels lonely, so he raises a dog. 那名老人觉得很孤独，因此他养了一只狗。 5.
