Barbara Lakin,a former sweater designer living in New York, has breathed new life into special Barbies. She
spends hundreds of hours in sewing()unique,well-designed dresses, stylish or plain, for old Barbies that she
buys at yard sales or are donated by people who are supportive of her effort. The little girls who are going to get
these toys are migrants, most of whom have traveled with their family for months to get to the US,usually
escaping from poor economies and dangerous situations at home.
Lakin knows it is hard to imagine what these children have gone through. She believes having a toy.
especially for a child in these conditions,is really important. It's something that can comfort them and something
that they can hold close. While those toys will never take away the trauma they have experienced or the difficulties
they still face at present,Lakin said the toys do make a great difference. It is more than just a Barbie toy;at least
for a moment, these young migrants can be simply children again. She thinks that is particularly important to
them.
"I get a lot out of it,too,"Lakin said truly."I personally like to hand them out because I love being able to
say,'I made this for you',and the smiles and the happiness they gave me;it's moments like that that make it all

and she hopes people will donate more."It shows these kids we care them a lot and that we're not just giving them

A new study proves when their teenagers cut back on social media use, they seem to feel better about
themselves.Helen Thai,a doctoral student in psychology at McGill University, conducted the study. She said the
research came from her own personal experiences."I couldn't help but compare myself when I was using social
media, making me unsatisfied with my self-image."Thai says.Although she was aware that social media posts
often presented images that can be unrealistic in real life,it still had a negative impact on her. So,Thai and a team of
researchers decided to test whether reduced time on social media would increase self-confidence in body image.
They hired a few hundred volunteers, aged 14-18,all of whom had experienced signs of anxiety or depression,
which could make them easier to be affected by social media.Half of the teens were asked to reduce their social
media to 60 minutes a day for three weeks. The other half continued to use social media freely, which averaged
about three hours per day.The researchers gave the teens surveys at the beginning and end of the study. It included
statements such as'm pretty happy about the way I look,"and"am satisfied with my weight."
Among the group that cut social media use,the overall score on appearance satisfaction improved from 2.95 to
3.15 on a 5 point scale."This may seem like a small change, but any change in such a short period of time is
striking,"the authors say.
"This research showed promising results that weight and appearance confidence can improve when people cut
back on social media use,"wrote Thai.Thai says it's encouraging that teens were willing to cut back screen time,
even for three weeks. It's also worth experimenting this approach with other groups, such as people with or at risk of
eating disorders.
8.What inspired Thai to do the research?
A.Her major.
B.Online posts.
C.Her experiencc.
D.Social pressure.
29.What do the volunteers have in common?
A.Family background.B.Mental problems.

Talking about glasses, not just any kind but those that are kind to the planet,we mean the green glasscs.Have
you heard of glasses that look stylish, feel comfortable, and most importantly, don't harm the environment?Let's
get to know more about the sustainable glasses.
You might be surprised to leamn how far your glasses are from green. They're often made from plastic and
metal, which use a lot of energy and resources to produce. The process of making them can be harmful to the

As for the new type of glasses,we pay special attention to how the glasses are made.Companies that care about

local materials. For example, they might use wood from forcsts that are managed well or recycled materials. They
also use energy-saving machines and try to reduce waste. In a word, they make sure that the glasses are made in a
responsible way.To our customers, green glasses are the best option for us to protect our eyes and the planet at the
same time.By choosing these glasses,we're helping the planet and making a positive change.
The future of glasses is looking bright! The way glasses are made is changing, with green materials and

How to Stop Being a People Pleaser
As a recovering people pleaser,I spent much of my life keeping others happy.Breaking this habit meant
stepping on a few toes. However,I've become a happier person as a result. Here are some tips I used to stop being
a people pleaser.
Recognize your priorities.Take a moment to think about why you are trying to learn how to stop being a
people pleaser.Who are the people that you feel the need to please?36 Answering these questions will help
you set a goal that you can hold yourself responsible to.
Just say"no".One reason why people pleasers say"yes"to everything is that they fear disappointing others.
3 If you are a people pleaser, you are likely to spend lots of energy trying to control how people feel about
you.The best thing you can do is to let them feel their feelings. It will feel relaxed to free yourself from taking
rcsponsibility for somconc else's reaction.
Saying"no"is a good way to set better lines in your important relationships. All healthy
plationships have their own lines. If you haven't set lines in your relationships,it is likely that at some point you
will end up feeling pressured to do something you don't want to do.
Accept yourself. Many people pleasers are not confident about who they are.39 Check out our
summary of Brene Brown's the Gifis of Imperfection to leam how to accept your imperfections and love yourself.
Remember that you cannot please everyone. No matter what you do thcre will always be someone who is
unhappy with your choices.40
A)Set healthy lines.
B.Keep healthy relationships.
C.Why do you feel the need to keep them happy?
D.Spend some time learning to love yourself for who you are.
And why bother trying to please everyone if it isn't possible?
F.But saying"no"is the best way to take care of your own needs.
G.That is why the more you seck security, the less of it you have.
