Let’s take a look at the list I’ve collected. A Beautiful Mind A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash a mathematician who went on to win the Nobel Prize for his Game Theory. This movie brings his whole journey on screen — from his beginning to his downhill ride. The first half is all about his rise to fame while the second half shows how he slowly falls into madness. After many years of fighting, he finally is victorious. I.Q. The story is about an auto mechanic who falls for Albert Einstein’s niece. The only problem is that she is engaged (已订婚的) to someone else. Fortunately, Einstein likes him. The young man pretends to be a physicist to run after her, but things don’t go as he has planned. If A Beautiful Mind was a little too heavy for you, I.Q. would be the perfect fit. It’s a light drama that is funny and heartwarming for the most part. Good Will Hunting Good Will Hunting is a touching tale of a troubled young man called Will Hunting who is gifted with a natural talent in mathematics. However, he is struggling to find his identity. He can solve any math problem, but not the one he seems to be struggling with in his life. His life seems to be getting only worse until one day he meets Sean, a therapist, who helps him find direction in life. Creation Creation is a story of a famous scientist, Charles Darwin, best known for his Theory of Evolution. This movie attempts to bring his struggling days into focus, the time when he was dealing with the loss of his daughter and was suffering from hallucinations (幻觉). At the same time, he was working on a book called On the Origin of Species, which he finally completed. All in all, Creation is a great historical drama. 1. If you are interested in a relaxing movie, which one can you see? A. I.Q B. Creation C. A Beautiful Mind D. Good Will Hunting 2. Who are experts in mathematics? A. Will Hunting and Sean. B. John Nash and Will Hunting. C. Charles Darwin and Sean. D. John Nash and Charles Darwin. 3. What’s the main purpose of the text? A. To introduce movies. B. To promote science. C. To recommend actors. D. To compare movies. B Dottie Brier’s role as a mental (心理的) health volunteer at the American Red Cross in New York may have kicked off in 1992, but her first experience with the organization dates back to World War Ⅱ (WWⅡ). Brier was brought up in a family where the Red Cross values were very strong. Her father used to lead many philanthropic (慈善的) organizations. “It was really just my family value to be concerned about other people,” she said. Determined to do something big, she got her master’s in social work and then began her long and fulfilling career in the field of mental health. “I always cared a lot about people who were going through difficult times. I really wanted to help them.” In 1991, she concluded her professional career. However, within a few months of retiring, she found herself missing social work and it was then that she joined the Red Cross. She was sent to Florida to help families hit by a big storm. There she was part of a program formed by the American Red Cross — Disaster (灾难) Mental Health. In 1995, Brier was asked by the head of Disaster Services at the Red Cross in New York to help start a similar program in the area. As a pioneer in the field of disaster mental health, she believes that developing such a program for the Red Cross has been extremely important. “It’s made a huge difference. We did a great deal of work educating people about mental health aspects and why they were important,” she adds. She knows it’s important to take care of her own feelings, too. She protects her own mental health by using relaxation methods including yoga and walking and having other interests such as being a guide at the American Museum of Natural History. She knows she can also speak to Red Cross mental health volunteers. 4. What had the greatest influence on Dottie Brier’s choice of career? A. Her Red Cross work. B. Her health conditions. C. Her WWⅡ experience. D. Her family background. 5. Why did Dottie Brier join the Red Cross? A. She needed a job in the mental health field. B. She wanted to continue helping people in need. C. She was asked by the head of Disaster Services. D. She was expert in creating mental health programs. 6. Why is the mental health program important according to Dottie Brier? A. It has changed the way locals work a great deal. B. It has greatly influenced mental health education. C. It has made people realize mental health matters. D. It has improved her own mental health condition. 7. How does Dottie Brier keep her own mental health? A. By speaking to people from all walks of life. B. By helping Red Cross mental health volunteers. C. By doing stress-relief activities and her hobbies. D. By visiting the American Museum of Natural History. C Nutrition (营养学) is really tricky. It’s like a big puzzle with many pieces that scientists are still trying to put together. People who worry about their diet want simple labels of ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and clear advice to follow, but the truth is much more slippery than that. The science about fats and cholesterol (胆固醇) is often counterintuitive (违反直觉的). Even qualified dietitians can be confused by it. Some diets that are supposed to be healthy can actually make your cholesterol go up. This can happen because not eating enough can mess with your body’s hormones (激素). Too much fat in the diet has long been known to be bad for your heart health. But, after decades of pointing fingers at all non-vegetable fats, science has now decisively changed its mind. The research starting in the 1950s, which claimed that eating fats would make your cholesterol go up and lead to heart problems, has been proved to be not always true. What has been called the ‘French paradox’ by American scientists reflects the fact that in France — as in many other countries — people may have high cholesterol levels and high consumption of saturated fats (饱和脂肪) but low cases of heart disease. This is because other things, like smoking, which can also affect your heart, are often ignored. In 2014, a review of seventy - two different studies of heart disease and saturated fats, conducted by the British Heart Foundation, found that there wasn’t a connection between eating fat and heart problems. But even though the review showed no connection, government advice remains in place to limit the amount of fats eaten, especially saturated ones. The food industry sometimes helps make the advice that governments give about eating healthy. They made a picture called the ‘Eatwell Plate’ to show people what to eat. But most people in the UK eat too much fat, and now it’s mostly from things like vegetable oils, not from animals. 8. The underlined word “slippery” in paragraph one is closest in meaning to ________. A. Unclear. B. Simple. C. Strange. D. Important. 9. What can be concluded from the researches in paragraph 3? A. Eating fats is always harmful to heart health. B. Smoking is the leading factor causing heart health. C. The relationship between eating fats and heart disease is uncertain. D. French people have high cases of heart disease due to their eating habits. 10. What is government’s suggestion for fat intake? A Eating different types of fats. B. Focusing more on vegetable oils. C. Taking in as much fat as you want. D. Controlling the amount of fat in diet. 11. What is the text? A. A news report. B. A science report. C. A short story. D. A book review. D In the classic movie The Mighty Ducks, a group of ice hockey players band together, get better, and eventually win. That’s the dream of players on losing teams. But for many kids’ sports teams, it doesn’t. There is no winning, no victory cheers. Most people don’t like losing, with the discouraging record of the scoreboard, watching while the other team’s players throw victorious hands in the air. Parents adjust complex family schedules for seemingly countless practices, then wonder what it’s all for when their child’s team never comes home a winner. So is losing all the time really good for children? It can be. Experts agree that losing at sports, no matter how unending, can allow children to learn from failure. Losing all the time builds philosophy, friendship, sportsmanship, and the idea of athletics as a series of increasing victories. The team may struggle, but teammates improve moment by moment. Milt Shapiro, who lives in Washington, coaches a team that lost “by football scores”. He doesn’t worry if a player cries, even though tears upset parents. “I love the fact that he’s crying, which means he cares and he’s passionate. We will change that into something we can use on the field. I would focus on small victories within each game,” he says. Sports psychologist Caroline Silby, who practices in the Washington area, says in an email that the real problem with losing all the time lies with the parents. Trying to make children win all the time can be harmful. Also, losing is not such a big deal that it should be covered up. If parents don’t speak about games-or seasons-that ended badly, children may think that means that failure is so awful that they shouldn’t even talk about it. Also, Silby says, if parents get angry, blame unskilled players, or talk endlessly about a loss, they ruin the whole point of being on a team: a sense of belonging. Athletes who have that feeling-that they are connected to something larger than themselves-are less stressed and have higher self-esteem. And overall, she says, losing seasons can give athletes some perspective and help them grow better at managing frustration and doubt. 12. What’s the experts’ opinion about children’s losing at sports? A. It exercises parents’ patience. B. It’s beneficial to kids’ growth. C. It makes a team less competitive. D. It leads to children’s short-lived emotion. 13. How does Milt Shapiro react to his team’s loss? A. He changes their training plans. B. He gets angry with his students. C He comforts players with small gifts. D. He treats it as a learning opportunity 14. What does Caroline Silby advise parents to do? A. Hide kids’ losing properly. B. Put more effort into kids’ training. C. Encourage kids to face failure directly. D. Draw kids’ attention to things beyond games. 15. What would be the best title for the text? A. How Do Kids React to Losing at Sports? B. How Does Losing at Sports Impact Children? C. How Can Losing at Sports Be Good for Kids? D. How Should Coaches Respond to Children’s Losing? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 There are two types of skills that managers look for in the interviews with job seekers: soft skills and hard skills. ____16____ Soft skills, unlike hard skills, are usually inborn or gained through personal development. She stood near Ms. Robins and looked around shyly. “This is Eva,” said Ms. Robins. “Will someone volunteer to show her around today? “Chase raised his hand since he liked showing the new kids around and helping them feel welcome. “Thanks, Chase, “Ms. Robins said. “Now let’s get down to our work.” That’s when Chase realized he didn’t have a new year gift for Eva. No one else would have one either. Chase pictured his classmates’ desks covered with gifts while Eva’s desk was empty. He felt sad about that. At a break, he was careful not to mention the party as he showed Eva around the playground. At lunchtime, he walked Eva to the lunchroom, still worried about what would happen at the party. Eva had brought a packed lunch. so Chase showed her where she was supposed to sit and introduced her to some of the kids at her table. While eating, Chase suddenly remembered that kids often included candy hearts with the new year gifts they exchanged. This won’t be a New Year’s Day for Eva with no gifts. But as he sat down at his table, an idea flooded into his head. He whispered it to the kids around him. Soon everyone at the table was nodding and whispering. When they were back in the classroom after lunch, Chase told Ms. Robins about their plan. Quickly but quietly, Ms. Robins, with an exquisite paper bag she fetched from her office, was walking around the classroom to collect the candy hearts. Growing heavy with the paper bag was the students’ welcome for their new classmate. Sitting beside Eva, Chase felt his heart racing and palms sweating. In order not to ruin the new year surprise for Eva, he pretended to be discussing math problems with her to occupy her attention. The stone in his heart finally dropped when Ms Robins tiptoed towards him and placed the paper bag on his hands. “Here’s your new year gift, Eva. It’s from everyone.” said Chase. Surprise written on Eva’s face, she turned around and was greeted by the sunny smiles on her classmates’ faces. “Open it,” I encouraged. No sooner had she opened the paper bag than everybody cheered, “Happy New Year”. The candies which were made in the shape of hearts blurred her eyes. It’s widely known that reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body(water is to fish). As far as I’m concerned, we should attach importance to it and take active part in it. To start with, we are supposed to raise our awareness of reading and make our efforts to read everyday, which is of great help to see and think clearly. Moreover, it is also very important to read a good book, because reading a good book is like making a good friend. In terms of the recommended book, The Story of the Stone by Cao Xueqin would top my list. The book is not only a masterpiece of realism written in middle of the 18th century, but also a great combination of Chinese history, culture, arts and traditions. Please keep in mind that reading everyday should be part of our daily life. Dear friends, it’s high time that we should take action now and I call on every student to seize the chance as the first step to start your reading exploration. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
