“What should I we call you?” I asked. “My name is Captain Nemo,” he told us. “The name of my ship is Nautilus.” Captain Nemo showed me the library, the art gallery and the engine room. “It’s a wonderful ship!” I exclaimed. “I love it as if it were my child,” he replied. “It must have cost a fortune!” “Millions of dollars,” he replied. “However, I have billions!” Ned Land and Conseil were as amazed at the ship as I was, but Ned was still interested in trying to find a way to escape. I told him that he should stop thinking about it for the moment. A few days later, Captain Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island under the sea. When returned to the Nautilus, we were tired but amazed by what we had seen during the trip. It was an amazing experience. When we entered the Torres Strait, the Nautilus hit a reef and stopped. We had to wait for the high tide to lift the Nautilus off the reef. We three were allowed to use Captain Nemo’s dinghy to go onto the island. We were excited. When we returned to the island the next day, we were attacked by savages. About one hundred savages followed us and tried to come into the ship. Captain Nemo didn’t worry about them. When they put their hands on the rail, they all fell back and ran away. Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. Anybody who touched it would receive an electric shock. One day, Captain Nemo asked me to follow him to another room and help one of his men. A man lay on a bed with a very bad head wound. I looked at it. “What happened?” Captain Nemo answered, “Something broke in the engine. A heavy piece of metal hit his head.” “He is going to die soon,” I said. “Nothing can save him.” Tears filled Captain Nemo’s eyes, and he asked me to leave. We sailed through a sea of milk and huge armies of shell sand, sometimes large crowds of sharks. I realized that I did not really want to escape. 1.What does the underlined word “fortune” mean in English? 2.What does the underlined “it” refer to? 3.Why did the savages fall back and run away when they put their hands on the rail? 4.According to the passage, how many times did “I” leave the Nautilus? 5.What do you think of Captain Nemo according to this passage? 【答案】1.A large amount of money./(A lot of ) Money./Much money./Millions of dollars. 2.To escape./(Trying) to find a way to escape. 3.(Because) Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail./Because they received an electric shock. 4.Three (times). 5.Rich, clever, and cared for his men. (23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)阅读并回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过8个单词。 One of the oldest arts which dates back to the Han Dynasty has been disappearing from the stage. Different from films, the shadow play (皮影戏) needs more attention. In the past years, Chinese artists have been trying to help it survive. Their effort has got encouragement and support from the government. In 2011, the shadow puppet (木偶) play was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (遗产) list. Most of the puppets were made of leathers from animals, like donkeys and sheep. The leathers must be carefully chosen, and then people make them smooth. When the leathers become smooth enough, the artists would paint the characters on it, and then cut them out with different tools. The body parts of the puppets are separately cut out and joined together, so that they could have 24 movable joints (关节). Puppet players hold them with sticks connected to their most important joints during the performance. The experienced players could act five sticks on one puppet with only one hand. Most of them show interest in puppet performances, so they can play several traditional instruments. They are also needed to sing local operas, and have a good sense of music. Xue Hongquan has found ways to protect it from disappearing. He improved the traditional performance and added modern music, light as well as performing skills. Xue’s puppets could not only perform old plays, but could imitate (模仿) modern dances. “The art could be passed onto only by making more people love it and accept it,” said Xue. “So it is our duty to do something for our traditional art.” 1.When was the shadow puppet play added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list? 2.What were most of the puppets made of? 3.How many steps does it take to make a puppet? 4.What has Xue Hongquan added into the shadow play to help it survive? 5.As a student, what can we do for our traditional art? 【答案】1.In 2011. 2.Leathers from animals. 3.5. 4.Modern music, light as well as performing skills. 5.开放性试题,言之有理即可。参考答案为:We shall inherit and carry forward traditional arts. 【导语】本文主要介绍了皮影戏历史、制造、表演和传承。 1.根据第一段中的“In 2011, the shadow puppet (木偶) play was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (遗产) list.”可知,2011年,皮影戏加入了联合国教科文组织非物质文化遗产名录。故填In 2011. 2.根据第二段中的“Most of the puppets were made of leathers from animals, like donkeys and sheep.”可知,大多数木偶是用兽皮制成的。故填Leathers from animals. 3.根据第二段中的“The leathers must be carefully chosen, and then people make them smooth. Hui nan tian is a special weather phenomenon (现象) in southern China. It normally appears in spring when temperatures begin to warm up and humidity quickly increases. Before it arrives, there have usually been a few cold days, with a temperature below 12℃. As the cold air goes away, warmer air quickly comes and the temperature rises, creating a lot of water vapor. Small water droplets can be seen on windows and walls. During hui nan tian, the humid weather makes it easy for bacteria (细菌) to grow. Food goes bad easily, clothes stay wet, and sofas can get moldy. Electrical equipment like televisions may break down when they get wet inside, which can be dangerous for people when turning them on. It can also make people feel tired and sick. Catching a cold is common during this time. To cut down on the trouble caused by the lasting humid weather, scientists suggest that people in the south should close their windows in the morning and evening, especially those facing south and southeast. At the same time, they should use an air conditioner to dry the room instead of mopping floors. It’s also useful to put newspapers on the floor, on tables, and at the door to take in water and wet air. 1.Where does hui nan tian usually appear? 2.What can be seen on windows and walls? 3.Why is it easy for bacteria to grow during hui nan tian? 4.How may people feel during hui nan tian? 5.What does scientists advise people influenced by hui nan tian to do in the morning and evening? 【答案】1.In southern China./ In the south of China. 2.Small water droplets. 3.Because of the humid weather./ Because the weather is humid. 4.Tired and sick. 5.To close their/the windows. 【导语】本文主要介绍了一种特殊的气候——回南天。 1.根据“Hui nan tian is a special weather phenomenon (现象) in southern China. ”可知,回南天通常出现在中国的南方,故填In southern China./ In the south of China. 2.根据“Small water droplets can be seen on windows and walls.”可知,在窗户和墙上可以看到小水珠,故填Small water droplets. 3.根据“During hui nan tian, the humid weather makes it easy for bacteria (细菌) to grow”可知,潮湿的天气使细菌很容易生长,故填Because of the humid weather./ Because the weather is humid. 4.根据“ It can also make people feel tired and sick.”可知,在回南天期间,人们可能感到疲惫和不舒服,故填Tired and sick. 5.根据“To cut down on the trouble caused by the lasting humid weather, scientists suggest that people in the south should close their windows in the morning and evening, especially those facing south and southeast.”可知专家建议受回南天影响的人们在上午和晚上要关上窗户,故填To close their/the windows. (23-24九年级上·江苏盐城·期末)Gift giving is common. Over time, different cultures have developed their own gift-giving customs (习俗) and traditions. In China, gifts are given for holidays, such as birthdays or special events like a dinner at a friend’s home. Gift Wrapping (包装) Chinese gifts can be wrapped with wrapping paper. Red is for luck. Pink is for happiness. Gold is for wealth. So wrapping paper in these colors is the best. White and black are the symbols of death and should not be used. Red Envelopes(红包) Wrapping money in a red envelope means good wishes. People usually give red envelopes to kids during Chinese New Year. Whether a gift is given or not, greeting cards are often used for birthdays, Christmas, Father’s/Mother’s Day, weddings, and Easter. In America, common gifts are candies or toys for children, and chocolate, fine food, books, clothes and tools for adults. (23-24九年级上·江苏南通·期末)请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。 The milu deer, one of China’s most beloved animals, is also one of its strangest. How else could you describe an animal that has the face of a horse, the hoofs (蹄) of a cow, the antlers (鹿角) of a red deer, and the tail of a donkey? The history of the species is nearly as strange as its body. The milu deer used to be seen often in China long ago. Like other deer, they lived together and ate grass as well as the soft parts of trees, such as small branches. However, milu deer were often hunted for food or sport in the past. The Ming and Qing dynasties did not protect them and many were killed. In 1900, the milu deer disappeared from China. However, before all the deer were killed in China, some were taken to Europe. The Duke of Bedford from Britain collected all the milu deer from Europe and put them in his deer park. The deer liked the cool, wet weather in England, and their numbers increased year by year. In 1985, 20 milu deer were reintroduced from Britain to China and placed in the Beijing Nanhaizi Milu Park in southern Beijing. The next year another 39 milu deer arrived from the UK to Dafeng Milu Nature Reserve in Jiangsu Province. The milu deer certainly seemed happy to be back in China because their numbers started to grow steadily. There were soon so many of them that 64 milu deer were sent to a newly opened reserve in Shishou, Hubei Province from Beijing in the 1990s. They can move freely in the reserve, feed completely on wild plants, and continue to grow safely. At the moment, the milu deer are still living in reserves where they are being protected and cared for. As a result, their population is now recovering fast. It was crowded with people on the deck. One day, Haley went on business at a small town. Later the trader returned with a black woman. She had a baby in her arms. She was smiling and wearing nice clothes with a large box. As the La Belle Riviere started sailing, the woman sat down with her baby. Haley said something to her. She became worried. “I don’t believe it.” Uncle Tom heard her say. “Look here!” said Haley, showing her a document. “This says your master sold you. Your name is Lucy, isn’t it?” “He told me that I was going down to Louisville for a job as cook at the same restaurant where my husband works,” said the woman. Then she became quiet, sat on her box, turned her back to the land and stared at the river. At Louisville, when Lucy got up to the side of the steamboat, hoping to see her husband, a man took her baby and got off— he paid 45 dollars for the baby. When they left Louisville, Lucy returned to her seat and found her baby was missing. “Lucy,” said the trader, “you couldn’t take your child down south. I sold him to a very good family that will take care of him better than you.” Lucy sat down. She looked calm. “I know it’s hard, at first, Lucy,” he started, “but you’re a clever lady and you’ll understand.” “Master, please don’t talk to me now,” said the woman. Uncle Tom went to sit with Lucy, and tried to comfort her, but she didn’t want to listen. Night came and everybody went to sleep, but something woke Tom up at midnight. Tom and the other men walked all the way to the plantation. They stopped in front of a house. It was large, but it looked empty and uncomfortable, the glass of some windows were broken and there were bits of wood and boxes on the ground. Two slaves, Sambo and Quimbo, were Legree’s two main helpers on the plantation, and they arrived with dogs. “Don’t try to ran away,” said Legree to Tom and the others, “or the dogs will follow you.” “Sambo,” said Legree, “take these new slaves down to the cabins.” The slaves followed Sambo to the cabins. They were in a row, near the plantation and far from the house. Tom’s heart sank when he saw them. Each one had only one room, without any furniture. They had to wait in line for their turn to cook a very poor meal. Then they all went to sleep on the floor in the cabins. But there is an exception-people from around the world come to northwestern England every November to compete for the title (称号) of the World’s Biggest Liar (说谎者). The competition is held in honor of 19th-century Bridge Inn landlord (店主) will Ritson, who was famous for exaggerating (夸张) his experiences to tell exciting stories. Competitors have just five minutes to tell the biggest lie they can think of, without using any tools or telling jokes. Over the years, people have won the contest with different stories, like taking magical journeys to Scotland in rubbish bins that went under the sea. A bishop (主教) reportedly told what may be the greatest lie ever in the competition. His story was just one sentence: “I have never told a lie in my life!” The most celebrated liar in the history of the competition is a British man named John Graham. Between 1994 and 2008 he won seven World’s Biggest Liar titles and is known as Johnny Liar. In 2006, Sue Perkins became the first female to win the competition, telling a story about people riding camels to work as a result of climate change. In 2011, the first place went to Glen Boyland, who told a lie about competing in a snail-racing competition with Prince Charles. (23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)Deadly flooding has swept China’s central Henan Province. Hundreds of thousands of people have been influenced. Up to August 2, a total of 302 people have been killed and 50 have been missing. Like many other natural disasters, floods can happen with little to no warning. Flash floods move quickly and have strong currents (水流). They are known to bring down trees and destroy buildings. Besides, floods can cause power cuts, traffic jams and other problems. But, the flood itself isn’t the only problem to deal with. After a flood, its influence can be just as deadly, as it may not be possible to send basic supplies such as water and food to the area. So, in the face of a flash flood, how should we save ourselves? ★Avoid bridges that rapidly-moving water is crossing, as floodwaters can cause bridges to break. ★Listen to emergency broadcasts (应急广播) for further instructions. If told to move to another place, do so. ★Stay inside the car if it’s caught in a fast-moving water. Only get out if the water begins to flood the car itself, and then move to the roof of the car. ★If caught within a flooded building, move to the highest floor. Only move to the roof if necessary. Once there, use signs for help, such as drawing SOS on the roof. ★ Stay away from power lines , as they are often destroyed or knocked down during strong storms. Besides, here are also some tips to keep in mind after a flood. Do not drink floodwater, or use it to wash food. Return to your home only after local governments have said it is safe to do so. Avoid driving through flooded areas. 根据短文内容回答问题(每小题答案不超过10个单词)。 1.How many people were influenced in the flood in Henan Province? 2.Why should we avoid bridges that rapidly-moving water is crossing? 3.How can we ask for help if caught within a flooded building? 4.When can you return to your home after a flood? 5.What will you do if you are facing a flood? 【答案】1.Hundreds of thousands of people were influenced. 2.Because floodwaters can cause bridges to break. 3.Move to the highest floor and use signs for help. 4.After local governments have said it is safe. 5.I will keep calm and ask for help. 【导语】本文介绍了发生在中国河南的洪灾,以及给出了洪水下人们如何拯救自己的方法。 1.根据“Hundreds of thousands of people have been influenced.”可知,数十万的人受到了影响。故填Hundreds of thousands of people were influenced. 2.根据“Avoid bridges that rapidly-moving water is crossing, as floodwaters can cause bridges to break.”可知,避免在水流湍急的地方过桥,因为洪水会导致桥梁断裂。故填Because floodwaters can cause bridges to break. 3.根据“If caught within a flooded building, move to the highest floor. But a couple of weeks ago, they came together to give me a gift that really blew me away. For years now, I’ve been wanting to sell our house where my children grew up. But there are the funny little love hearts they drew just near their beds. The attic (阁楼) is full of the old clothes they couldn’t wear. The high shelves still have lots of novels for children, like The Night Before Christmas and The Muddle-Headed Wombat. But those are not the reasons for being sad about leaving this house. There is much more to tie me to the home where I brought up our kids. In the front room, there is a wall. On that wall are hundreds of pencil marks, names and dates. They recorded the way the children grew. Of all the objects, all the memories, it’s this one place in our home that makes it hard for me to leave. Over dinner, over the years, I’ve talked about how much I would hate leaving that wall, even though the last marks were made ten years ago when my kids stopped growing. Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time? As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的). One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone. Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me. However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes — changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits. First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused (专注的). Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved. I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares. Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible. 1.Why did the writer check the phone more often than before when he was terribly tired out? 2.What changes did the writer have after three weeks without a mobile phone? 3.(开放性设问)Would you like to follow the writer’s example? Why or why not? (23-24九年级上·江苏盐城·期末)Gift giving is common. Over time, different cultures have developed their own gift-giving customs (习俗) and traditions. In China, gifts are given for holidays, such as birthdays or special events like a dinner at a friend’s home. While it’s true that a gift is just a gift, what is more important is the meaning behind the gift. In China, some gifts need to be avoided, including clocks, shoes, umbrellas, knives, anything in groups of four and anything in black or white. After receiving a gift, people show thanks to the person by saying “Thank you so much.” or “This is too nice.” Hugs or kisses may be exchanged. Returning gifts is not a must, but thank-you cards are very common. And they should usually be sent out in the same week when the gifts are received. Soon a new chapter will be added to the strange tale of these special animals. The deer are being trained to survive outside the park so that they all can return to the wild one day. The rescue (拯救) of the milu deer is already a success story. Now it is up to us to make sure that the deer live happily ever after. 1.What does the milu deer look like? 2.How did the milu deer live in China long ago? 3.Where did the 39 milu deer from the UK arrive? 4.Why are the milu deer trained to survive outside the park now? 5.What do you think will happen to the milu deer in the future?(请自拟一句话作答) (23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题(每题回答字数不超过10个词)。 Later the trader Haley and his slaves (黑奴) started their journey on the Ohio River on a steamboat, the La Belle Riviere. Use only bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking and bathing. However, he is best known for bringing traditional Chinese ideas into pop music. He helps more people fall in love with guofeng music. In Silver Linings (《光亮》), Zhou sings some words in the Peking Opera style. In Painting Silk (《画绢》), people can hear sounds from the Chinese instrument xiao. Some popular songs have Internet buzzwords in their words. But you can hear Chinese poetry in Zhou’s songs. “These ancient poems and songs in pentatonic scales (五声音阶) are very Chinese,” Zhou told China Daily. “When our lives are full of buzzwords, people may suddenly feel touched when hearing an ancient poem. I have often been surprised at the things our ancient artists made. Their works were simple in words but rich in meaning.” Zhou said music is a good way to spread culture and tell China’s stories. “When I was studying abroad, my teachers listened to my songs for the first time. They felt that Chinese music is so beautiful. They really liked my songs using the Chinese opera style.” Zhou also said that guofeng music is a kind of exchange between the modern and the classic. “We always say art has no boundaries. It’s the same with music.” he said. 1.What is Zhou Shen best known for? 2.In which song does Zhou use the instrument xiao according to the passage? 3.How does Zhou like works by our ancient artists? 4.What role can music play in Zhou Shen’s eyes? 5.How do you understand Zhou Shen’s sentences “We always say art has no boundaries. The only thing visible was a hand. The Ghost neither spoke nor moved. Scrooge was terrified. “Are you the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come?” asked Scrooge. The Ghost didn’t answer, but it pointed its hand in front of it. “You are going to show me the future,” Scrooge continued. “Am I right, Ghost?” The Ghost nodded its head. That was the only answer Scrooge received. “Ghost of the Future,” he said, “I am more afraid of you than of all the other ghosts. But because I want to be a better man, I will go with you. Please, speak to me.” It didn’t reply. The hand pointed straight in front of them. “Lead on!” said Scrooge. The Ghost moved forwards. Scrooge followed in the shadow of its robe. And the robe carried him along. The city sprang up around them. There they were, in the heart of it. The Ghost stopped beside some businessmen at the Stock Exchange. His hand was pointing to them, so Scrooge listened to their conversation. “I only know he’s dead,” said a great fat man. “When did he die?” asked another. “Last night, I think. ” “What was the matter with him?” asked a third. “God knows”, said the first, with a yawn. “What has he done with his money?” asked a red-faced gentleman. “I don’t know,” said the great fat man, yawning again. “He hasn’t left it to me. That’s all I know.” Everybody laughed. “It will be a very small funeral,” said the great fat man. “I don’t think anybody will go to it.” Scrooge knew the men. And he looked towards the Ghost for an explanation. He didn’t understand why this conversation was important. But he knew it must be. Scrooge looked around the place. He looked at the clock. It was strange. He was usually there at this time but he couldn’t see himself. 1.What does Scrooge ask the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come to show him? 2.Which ghost was Scrooge the most terrified of, the Ghost of the Past, the Ghost of the Present or the Ghost of the Future? 3.Why did the Ghost stopped beside some businessmen at the Stock Exchange? 4.Who do you think the dead man is? 5.Was Scrooge a good friend of theirs? The art form is said to date back to the Han Dynasty. During that time, paper was very expensive. During the Tang Dynasty, Chinese people started using paper for artistic expression. Paper cutting became popular. Common themes of paper cutting include animals, plants and traditional Chinese characters like fu, shou and xi. They are often seen during Chinese New Year. In the past, paper cutting was usually used as decorations for festivals. It was put up on windows and doors for good luck. Chinese paper cutting has become more than just a traditional art form. It is also a symbol of Chinese culture. In recent years, Chinese paper cutting has been enjoyed by people all over the world. It is not only for decorative purposes, but also in fashion, design, advertising and more areas. Chinese paper cutting is a fragile (脆弱的) art form. On the one hand, the beautifully shaped designs can easily be broken. On the other hand, the traditional skills used to create them are at risk of being lost. They want to make sure that it will be passed down to many more generations. 回答下列5个问题,每题答案不超过6个词。 1.When did paper cutting become popular in China? 2.What are common themes of Chinese paper-cutting? 3.Where was Chinese paper cutting often seen in the past? 4.What’s the problem of the traditional skills in paper-cutting now? 5.What does the writer want to remind us to do? So one day, while I was at work, my children decided to do something about the wall. Here was a chance to remove the last traces (痕迹) of their babyhood, but they didn’t do that. Instead, they hired Jack, a professional photographer, to come to our house to take photos of the pencil marks, names and dates and then changed them into one photo. At last the gift made its way to me, one meaningful photo. Representing love and growth, it’s a gift that I will cherish forever. 1.When did the mother get the surprising gift? 2.What is the attic filled with? 3.Why are the marks on the wall so important to the mother? 4.How did Jack make the traces on the wall into a gift? 5.Do you like this kind of gift? Why or why not? (2024·江苏苏州·二模)请认真阅读下面短文,用英文回答后面的问题。 My 100 Days Without a Mobile Phone When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? (Please give two reasons.) 14 相信自己实力强,期末之战我称王! 19 相信自己实力强,期末之战我称王! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
