The more I do this research, the more I realize that women are at the heart of some of the most important developments in science. For example. Rosalind Franklin contributed much to the discovery of the structure of DNA. And the work of Margaret Wilcox, an American engineer, was crucial to the development of the air conditioner in cars. Each season, we’ll explore and celebrate the life and work of one woman who shaped our worldview. And we’ll explore some of the reasons why you might not know her name. Will be looking at the barriers these women faced as well as their passion and drive. Join us as we honor these remarkable stories you may not know. 第二部分、阅读理解(共15题,每题2.5分) A Intro Our Online Chinese Summer Camp program is a wonderful, immersive online Chinese learning experience specifically designed for learning Chinese remotely. Growing up, she was really shy, so she always turned to books. They sort of became her best friends when she didn’t have one. In 2019, when Bhatnagar was in her second year of high school, her dad was diagnosed with cancer. The news was difficult for the family. Books became an even bigger comfort, and she started thinking about families in similar situations. When her father recovered, she came up with a plan to help others. “The idea came from just deep gratitude that the doctors were able to save her father,” she says. “But also a hint of sadness that there were kids who were fighting the same battle.” Bhatnagar started a book drive in her hometown, Gaithersburg, Maryland. The goal was to collect books and give them to kids being treated for cancer in local hospitals. Her father was not surprised by this plan. “She was always interested in books, and she always wanted to do things for the neighborhood,” he says. Since the start of the book drive, which she calls For Love & Buttercup, Bhatnagar has collected more than 10,000 books. Bhatnagar had no idea how much attention her work would get. She started by posting on social media, asking people in her area to donate. “I was expecting maybe two or three responses from neighbors,” she says. “But it ended up blowing up,” especially when news stations began reporting it. The public response has been super great. Bhatnagar continues to run the book drive and hopes to one day expand the project to reach more kids. The memory of the first time she visited children who’d received her books sticks with her. “It was the best day of my life,” she says. “I realized I wanted to do this type of work forever.” 24. What can we learn about Bhatnagar from paragraph 2? A. She loves her father dearly. B. She cares for sick children. C. She got into a habit of reading. D. She fought hard against cancer. 25. What is For Love & Buttercup aiming to do? A. To collect over 10,000 books. B. To stimulate children’s interest in books. C. To help raise money for the poor. D. To donate books to kids with cancer. 26. How did Bhatnagar feel about the public response to the book drive? A. It’s unexpected. B. It’s confusing. C. It’s unsatisfactory. D. It’s immediate. 27. Which of the following best describes Bhatnagar? A. Serious and humorous. B. Caring and ambitious. C. Brave and strong-willed. D. Generous and warm-hearted. 24. B 25. D 26. A 27. For some parents in the US, those favorites are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches-also known as PB&.Js. Fruit like apples and bananas are also popular. But one mother has an unusual go-to ingredient for her children’s lunches. Jenny Mollen uses funny-looking candy eyes. She has learned that her children will eat any healthy food if it has edible eyeballs attached. The “eyeballs” are really pieces of candy. Her children laugh while they eat healthy foods like bell peppers, kiwis, or dates. Mollen says candy “eyes” make lunch more fun. “Honestly, first of all, just buy yourself some candy googly eyes. They are tried-and-true,” she said. She admits that “you lose something nutritionally” by giving children candy. But she thinks that getting children to eat healthy food by putting candy on it is worth it. Mollen’s lunch tricks bring together food and craft. She uses tricks because her two sons hate to eat different kinds of foods. So, she decorates their food to resemble animals or even their favorite Pokémon characters. She makes edible “bugs” made from dates, pretzel sticks for the legs, and, of course, candy “eyes”. She also uses leftover Chinese food to make panda bears from rice and seaweed. Mollen says her lunch projects are easy to do. And her sons think they have won a big prize at their midday meal. Mollen says making fun-looking, artful lunches for her children helps ease her guilt as she is a working mom. Her artful lunches are her way of reminding her children that she is thinking of them. Mollen says she also wants to teach them healthy eating habits. She says that by getting kids to eat vegetables at a young age, they will grow up to eat healthy foods later in life. She also says it is a good way to get children to try foods from other cultures. If they need to be “tricked” sometimes, that is okay. 28 What’s the purpose of Mollen’s lunch projects? A. To make her children’s day. B. To remind people to save food. C. To persuade other parents to follow suit. D. To ensure her children’s healthy diet. 29. What is typical of Mollen’s lunch? A. It contains all kinds of food. B. It is made up of candy. C. It combines art and nutrition. D. It is full of Chinese styles. 30. How have Mollen’s lunch projects affected her children? A. They have taken to their fun-looking lunches. B. They have broaden their knowledge of food. C. They have bonded with their favorite animals. D. They have swept to victory in the meal competitions. 31. What are the last two paragraphs mainly about? A. Mollen’s plans for cooking lunches. B The benefits of Mollen’s lunch tricks. C. Mollen’s expectations of her children. D. The culture elements in Mollen’s lunch. D 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第二段“But one mother has an unusual go-to ingredient for her children’s lunches. Jenny Mollen uses funny-looking candy eyes. She has learned that her children will eat any healthy food if it has edible eyeballs attached. (但有一位母亲为孩子们的午餐提供了一种不同寻常的食材。珍妮·莫伦(Jenny Mollen)使用了有趣的糖果眼睛。她知道她的孩子们会吃任何有可食用眼球的健康食物。)”可知,莫伦的午餐计划的目的是让孩子吃健康食物。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“But she thinks that getting children to eat healthy food by putting candy on it is worth it.(但她认为,通过在食品上放糖果来让孩子们吃健康食品是值得的。)” She uses tricks because her two sons hate to eat different kinds of foods. So, she decorates their food to resemble animals or even their favorite Pokémon characters. She makes edible ‘bugs’ made from dates, pretzel sticks for the legs, and, of course, candy ‘eyes’. She also uses leftover Chinese food to make panda bears from rice and seaweed.(莫伦的午餐技巧将食物和手艺结合在一起。 根据第三段“Her children laugh while they eat healthy foods like bell peppers, kiwis, or dates. Mollen says candy ‘eyes’ make lunch more fun. (她的孩子们一边吃着甜椒、猕猴桃或红枣等健康食品,一边笑。莫伦说,‘糖果眼睛’让午餐更有趣。)”可知,莫伦的孩子们吃着这些食物很是开心,说明他们已经喜欢上了看起来很有趣的午餐。故选A项。 根据最后第二段“Mollen says making fun-looking, artful lunches for her children helps ease her guilt as she is a working mom. Her artful lunches are her way of reminding her children that she is thinking of them. (莫伦说,作为一名职业母亲,为孩子们制作看起来有趣、有艺术感的午餐有助于减轻她的内疚感。她巧妙的午餐是她提醒孩子们她在想他们的方式。)”,以及最后一段“Mollen says she also wants to teach them healthy eating habits. She says that by getting kids to eat vegetables at a young age, they will grow up to eat healthy foods later in life. She also says it is a good way to get children to try foods from other cultures. If they need to be ‘tricked’ sometimes, that is okay. D From writing Shakespeare-style poetry to making music, ChatGPT has amazed the world since its launch in late 2022 by the US-based company OpenAI. It even passed several law exams in four courses at the University of Minnesota, US, according to CNN. The AI program can answer questions on a whole host of topics and write essays, stories and any other written texts you can think of. It does this by drawing on information collected from a large corpus (语料库) of text data. What makes ChatGPT so impressive? As Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAl said in an interview with Forbes, “it's not actually fundamentally new technology that made this (ChatGPT) have a moment.” According to MIT Technology Review, ChatGPT is based on GPT-3, a large language model. Because texts are more complicated than the meaning of every word combined, language models require a type of neural network(神经网络) that can make sense of texts. One breakthrough behind today's model is a network called Transformer, which was invented by Google researchers in 2017. The neural network can infer word meanings by tracking where the word appears in a sentence. Transformer can therefore capture the meaning of texts more accurately. The GPT models built by OpenAI combined Transformer with unsupervised (无人指导的) learning, meaning that the models can learn by themselves without being told what to look at. ChatGPT can now generate human-like responses instantly due to the large scale of texts it learned from. “One of the biggest problems with ChatGPT is that it comes back, very confidently, with falsities,” Michael Wooldridge at the Alan Turing Institute in London, UK, told The Guardian. This means that ChatGPT doesn’t know the truth about the world — it learns information from various resources but it cannot decide what is true or false. Some argue that ChatGPT will be used to generate fake news, spread falsities, or be used for ill purposes. As for education, many US schools recently banned students from using ChatGPT on school networks because students began to use it as a shortcut for essays. 32. How does ChatGPT work? A. By making complicated texts simpler. B. By gathering a wide variety of information. C. By passing several law exams in four courses. D. By employing its large collection of information. 33. What makes ChatGPT so amazing? A. A completely new technology. B. The ability to track the location of a word. C. The combination of a network and self-learning. D. Better understanding of the meaning of every word. 34. What does the underlined word “falsities” mean in the last but one paragraph? A. False information. B. Something new. C. Various resources. D. Timely responses. 35. Why is ChatGPT forbidden in many us schools? A. Because a ban on it has recently been passed. B. Because it provides fake news that will mislead students. C. Because students use it for the purpose of improving their essays. D. Because with it, students finish their assignments without thinking. D 33. C 34. A 35. 根据文章第二段“It does this by drawing on information collected from a large corpus (语料库) of text data. (它通过利用从大型语料库中收集信息来实现这一点)”可知,ChatGPT利用其收集的大量信息工作的,故选D。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“According to MIT Technology Review, ChatGPT is based on GPT-3, a large language model. Because texts are more complicated than the meaning of every word combined, language models require a type of neural network(神经网络) that can make sense of texts. (根据麻省理工技术评论,ChatGPT基于GPT-3,一种大型语言模型。由于文本比每一个单词的含义都要复杂,所以语言模型需要一种能够理解文本的神经网络)”以及倒数第三段讲到“The GPT models built by OpenAI combined Transformer with unsupervised (无人指导的) learning, meaning that the models can learn by themselves without being told what to look at. (OpenAI构建的GPT模型将Transformer与无监督学习相结合,这意味着模型可以自己学习,而无需被告知要看什么。)”可知,网络和自我学习的结合让ChatGPT如此惊人,故选C。 【34题详解】 词义猜测题。根据文章划线单词所在段最后一句“This means that ChatGPT doesn’t know the truth about the world — it learns information from various resources but it cannot decide what is true or false. (这意味着ChatGPT不知道世界的真相—它从各种资源中学习信息,但它无法决定什么是真的还是假的。)”可知,划线单词所在句子One of the biggest problems with ChatGPT is that it comes back, very confidently, with falsities的意思是:ChatGPT最大的问题之一是,它很自信地带着谎言回来了。 根据文章最后一句讲到“As for education, many US schools recently banned students from using ChatGPT on school networks because students began to use it as a shortcut for essays (在教育方面,许多美国学校最近禁止学生在学校网络上使用ChatGPT,因为学生开始使用它作为论文的捷径。)” 第三部分、七选五(共5题,每题2.5分) How to Feel Better When You’re Lonely There are a lot of things that can cause you to feel lonely. Instead, you can go out and do something.(所以,当你感到孤独的时候,你最好不要浏览脸书或Instagram。 第II卷(非选择题) 第四部分、完形填空(共15题,每题1分) It was the 2019 summer break. Similarly, standing in the shadow of the Borobudur Temple, as the sun rises over this grand historic building, we____62____ (impress) with the effort and determination of the people who ____63____(build) it with only primitive tools. It is in heritage sites like this ____64____ we cannot help but be humbled, come to understand our limitations as human beings, and know that our duty is to protect them for generations ____65____ (come). 56. its 57. which 58. the 59. of 60. reminder 61. truly 62. are impressed 63. built 64. that 65. to come 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 故填its。 故填which。 故填the。 故填of。 故填are impressed。 故填that。 故填to come。 A Traditional Chinese Culture Week ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: A Traditional Chinese Culture Week A traditional Chinese culture week campaign was launched last week in our school to enhance students’confidence in our national culture. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave. The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me,” she replied. “That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Lucy cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Lucy as she wiped her tears.” Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?” Lucy sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?” On the way home, Lucy made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; Paragraph 1: Approaching the doorway, _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Approaching the doorway, Lucy was very nervous and took a deep breath. Standing in front of the door, she was afraid whether her mother would forgive her for her rudeness. But when she thought of her mother’s familiar face and the noodle seller’s kind advice, she decided to knock on the door bravely. Her mother opened the door but Lucy was so ashamed that she didn’t know what to say. A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. Lucy couldn’t help crying and said “Sorry, mom, I know I have made a big mistake. I shouldn’t have quarreled with you.  I shouldn’t have run away from home. Could you forgive me?” Lucy’s mother was moved, saying “Good girl, never mind, I also should make an apology to you for scolding at you angrily. I am very worried about you. ” Tears rolled down from both of their faces and they hugged each other tightly. 词汇激活 行为类: ①推开门:open the door/push the door open ②哭了起来:can’t help crying/burst into tears ③向...道歉:make an apology to/say sorry to/apologize to 情绪类 ①.羞愧/悔恨:be ashamed /feel regretful ②担心:be worried about/be concerned about 【点睛】【高分句型1】Standing in front of the door, she was afraid whether her mother would forgive her for her rudeness. C When it comes to making lunch for their kids, moms and dads have usual favorites. 第三部分、七选五(共5题,每题2.5分) How to Feel Better When You’re Lonely There are a lot of things that can cause you to feel lonely. “Come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles the smell so attractive. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
