Spend the night in Beach House, which organizes free pool and beachside games. All rooms have a small fridge.
Coronado Central Beach, San Diego
This 2-mile stretch of beach has everything families could want: perfect weather, white sand, and warm, gentle water. But no smoking is allowed on this beach.
Spend the night in the Victorian-style Hotel del Coronado, which offers a kids’ program for 4- to 12-year-olds.
Coquina Beach, Florida
This beach is famous for colorful seashells (贝壳). Every morning, there’s a row of shells on the shoreline for kids to pick up. Another activity: kayaking (皮划艇). You can rent one on the beach.

My dad, Greg Newman, had wanted to be a race car driver, but things didn’t work out for him. So I guess having a son who could become a race car driver was the next best thing. Don’t get me wrong — Dad didn’t push me into racing. In fact, when I was about 10 years old, my dad was afraid that driving a car wasn’t my dream. So he took the racing away from me. I wasn’t very happy with that decision. It wasn’t long before Dad realized that racing was what I loved.
At four, Dad bought me my first Quarter Midget (袖珍赛车) and that’s really where it started for us. Back then, Dad was my coach. He would stick out (伸出) his foot in the path of the race car, and then tell me to exactly hit his foot. By doing this again and again, Dad believed that I would be faster and sharper on the race track.
Dad worked really long hours at his car repair business to make money so that I could race each weekend. I can remember that every night before he turned off the lights in the garage, Dad would tell me: “Don’t forget to kiss your race car good night.” He was trying to teach me that if I show respect, it’s returned. He wanted me to show thankfulness and respect for my race car and for all the hard work that we and many others had put into the dream.
My dad, my mom and my sister gave up a lot of things to help me race. For us, there was no better moment than winning the 50th running of the Daytona 500 in 2018. That evening in February 2018, I knew I had gotten a good push. I could hear the excitement. My father couldn’t speak a word, and when he got to Victory Lane (车道), he nearly knocked me over and gave me such a big hug.
24. Why did Greg Newman stop his son to race when his son was 10 years old?
A. Because he thought racing was dangerous.
B. Because he worried that his son didn’t like racing.
C. Because he didn’t want his son to fail like he did.
D. Because he didn’t have that money.
25. Why did Greg Newman let his son hit his foot?
A. To improve his son’s skill. B. To help his son to be braver.
C. To have fun with his son. D. To make his son more careful.
26. Greg Newman asked his son to kiss his race car good night to ________.
A. get help from his family
B. treat the race car as his son
C. feel thankful that he could follow his dream
D. develop a close relationship with his race car
27. In the 50th running of the Daytona 500, Greg Newman couldn’t say anything because he was ________.
A. stressed B. surprised C. sad D. excited
B 25. A 26. C 27. D

根据文章第一段中“In fact, when I was about 10 years old, my dad was afraid that driving a car wasn’t my dream. So he took the racing away from me. I wasn’t very happy with that decision. It wasn’t long before Dad realized that racing was what I loved. (事实上,当我大约10岁的时候,我爸爸担心开车不是我的梦想。所以他把赛车从我身边夺走了。我对那个决定不太满意。没过多久爸爸就意识到我喜欢赛车)”可知,因为爸爸担心儿子不喜欢赛车,所以在他儿子10岁时阻止儿子赛车。故选B项。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Back then, Dad coached me. He would stick out (伸出) his foot in the path of the race car, and then tell me to exactly hit his foot. By repeating this again and again, Dad believed that I would be faster and sharper on the race track. (那时候,爸爸教过我。他会在赛车的路径上伸出他的脚,然后告诉我准确地击中他的脚。通过一次又一次地重复这句话,爸爸相信我在赛道上会更快、更敏捷)”可知,爸爸训练儿子参加比赛,这样做的目的就是要训练和提高他儿子的赛车技术,让儿子在赛道上会更快、更敏捷。故选A项。
根据文章第三段“I can remember that every night before he turned off the lights in the garage, Dad would tell me: “Don’t forget to kiss your race car good night.” He was trying to teach me that if I show respect, it’s returned. He wanted me to show thankfulness and respect for my race car and for all the hard work that we and many others had put into the dream.
根据文章最后一段中“For us, there was no better moment than winning the 50th running of the Daytona 500 in 2018. That evening in February 2018, I knew I had gotten a good push. I could hear the excitement. My father couldn’t speak a word, and when he got to Victory Lane (车道), he nearly knocked me over and gave me such a big hug. (对我们来说,没有比在2018年赢得第50届代托纳500强更美好的时刻了。2018年2月的那个晚上,我知道我做的很棒。我能听到兴奋的声音。我父亲一句话也说不出来,当他来到车道时,他差点把我撞倒,给了我一个大大的拥抱)”可知,作者最后赢得了这次车赛,因此,他的父亲非常兴奋,以至于说不出话来。故选D项。

High school can be challenging for everyone. You are going through an awkward time and you may either fit in right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in (or not), joining a club will be helpful for you now and in the future.
Joining a club is a great way to meet new friends, especially if you are new at school. Being in a club encourages you to talk to people who share the same interests with you. Even if you are the shyest person, you are sure to make friends with at least one person in the club you choose to join. From my own experience, I have made some of my best friends through after-school activities and have had many new opportunities.
Another good thing about joining a club is that taking part in activities looks great on college applications. Being known as outgoing is an important quality (品质); it shows that you are willing to try new things and be determined. It can also help you build skills that you might need during a college interview.
Many teens fight with staying productive. Most students go to school and then come home to spend the rest of the day in front of the TV or on their phones, but clubs help prevent this. Teens are also easily influenced, and if they join the wrong group, they might get into trouble. Clubs are a wonderful place to spend time with good friends who can support you if you need help.
Perhaps the most important reason to join a club is the long-term benefits (益处) it provides. The classroom is not the only place to learn in a school. Meeting and talking to new people, managing your time, and staying organized are skills you will use every day in your life.
28. What might the underlined word “outcast” in paragraph 1 mean?

Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends — 532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them.
But is it possible that Kaylee’s online friendship could be making her lonely? That’s what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendship.
Could this be true? During your parents’ childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other.
Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teenager sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of his time is spent on social media platforms (平台) like Instagram and Facebook.
In fact, in many ways, online communication enables frlendship to be stronger. “There’s obviously a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.
Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendship. “If we are constantly checking out our virtual (虚拟的) world, we will be addicted and have little time for our real-world friendship,” says Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today’s kids might mistake the “friends” on social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don’t need someone to like. your pictures or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.
32. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To summarize the text. B. To tell something about true friends.
C. To bring up a topic. D. To encourage online friendship.
33. What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. In any case. B. In person. C. In a hurry. D. In advance.
34. What is Katie’s attitude towards online communication?
A. Positive. B. Unconcerned. C. Confused. D. Worried.
35. What view does Rosen hold?
A. It’s wise to turn to online friend.
B. It’s easier to develop friendships in reality.
C. Social media help people stay closely connected.
D. Teenager on real-world friendships.
C 33. B 34. A 35. D

Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.

This time, the son shouted at his father, “ Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times ‘IT IS A CROW’. Are you not able to understand this?’
A little while later the father went to his room and came back with an old tattered (发皱的) diary, which he had maintained since his son was born. On opening a page, he asked his son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary:
“Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question. I did not at all feel annoyed but I rather felt love for my innocent son.

One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
After reading the diary, tears rolled down the son’s face and he recalled the days when he used to sit together with his father. His father would patiently answer the same question all 23 times without feeling annoyed while his father asked him the same question just four times! Only until then did he realize what a kind and selfless father he has! He loved his son so much but he didn't expect anything in return. He couldn’t help bursting into tears.
Paragraph 2:
Feeling ashamed, the son got down on his knees before his father. He said to his father with regret,“ I’m so stupid that I hurt you. In no case will I make you annoyed in the future. I promise to see you happy forever, Dad. It is you who have cared for me since I was a little child, showering your selfless love on me. But now, it is my turn to do that.’’ Dad smiled proudly and they hugged each other tightly.

North Beach, Florida
Warm, clear water, white sand, and nature activities helped this beach rise to the top of our list. North Beach, near St. Petersburg, has a large lagoon (潟湖) that doesn’t get above 3 feet deep. It’s like a natural pool for kids.
Spend the night in the Loews Don CeSar where families can keep busy with movies and toys, books, and DVDs to borrow. There’s a drop-off kids’ club for 4- to 12-year-olds.
Coligny Beach, South Carolina
Coligny stood out for its calm water. And the beach’s hard-packed sand is perfect for kids to build castles or ride. You can rent bikes from a nearby Shore Beach Service stand.

A. stressed B. surprised C. sad D. excited
C
High school can be challenging for everyone. You are going through an awkward time and you may either fit in right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in (or not) joining a club will be helpful for you now and in the future.
A. A person who is popular. B. A person who is not smart.
C. A person who is confident. D. A person who is not accepted.
29. What do colleges think highly of according to the text?
A. The number of clubs you have joined.
B. The strong relationships you have built.
C The bright personality you have developed.
D. The skills you have learned while forming a club.
30. What benefit of joining a club is talked about in paragraph 4?
A. Increasing the knowledge.
B. Learning team working skills.
C. Improving the fitness level.
D. Making good use of the time.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Why should you join a club? B. What club should you join?
C. Should you join a second club? D. How should you join a club you like?
D

Playing sports is a lot of fun, but getting hurt is not. ___36___
Wear protective equipment.
The equipment you wear depends on the sport you play. Helmets (头盔) are the most common protective equipment. They protect your head while you’re playing football, baseball, softball, biking, skateboarding, and so on.
Warm up.
___37___ Doing some stretching (伸展) can get you prepared to hit the field. By warming up, you get yourself ready to play. Warming up your muscles and practicing a sport help keep you safe, too.
Know the rules of the games.
Traffic lights help prevent crashes between the many cars that drive on the roads together. This works because drivers know the rules and follow them. ___38___ When players know the rules of the game, fewer injuries happen. For example, you know that in soccer you can’t come from behind, crash into a player’s legs, and steal the ball.

Some rules don’t have anything to do with scoring points. Some rules are just about protecting other people. For example, a diver would make sure that the pool was clear before diving in. Otherwise, he or she might land on someone else.
___40___
