That December morning, I decided to take Apple to pay a visit to my aunt. I’d had Apple only a couple of weeks, but we’d become nearly inseparable. I opened the car door. Apple jumped in and settled down on the passenger seat. I started the car and set off.
It’s always tricky turning around. I live in a remote area up in the hills, surrounded by woods. I have to drive up the mountain to get to my driveway, which is hardly wide enough for one car and ends at a steep (陡峭的) valley.
I twisted around and backed up slowly. Just then, a flash of sunlight blinded me. I put my hand up to cover my eyes. I felt a shake as the left rear (后部的) part of the car dropped. Oh, no! The car slipped and rolled. We landed upside down. I felt a sharp pain in my chest and my legs. I couldn’t move. I looked over to find Apple. She was still in the passenger seat and fortunately she was okay.
I grabbed my cell phone and dialed 911. But just as I’d feared; there was no signal (信号) at the bottom of this valley. Now what? Windy, my closest neighbor, lived a quarter mile uphill from me, and had her own driveway. It was unlikely that she or anyone else would drive up to my house.
Apple barked nervously. At least I could get her out of here. There was a hole in the driver’s side rear window. “Come on, Apple,” I said. Painfully, I reached over, picked her up and gently put her head through the hole. “Go home, baby.” She jumped to the ground and raced up the side of the valley.
As the sun set, it turned cold. I trembled with cold and pain. Had Apple found her way home? She hardly knew the area. My pulse (脉搏) was weakening. I closed my eyes. Suddenly I was awakened by loud barks.

The New York Marathon (马拉松) is my goal for this year. I know I am never going to win a race but now, when I get anything negative, I will think of the kind gentleman who really believed, “You very good… you very fast.”
At the time, I was living in the Bay Area, and my mother had come to visit for a few days. On the last day of her stay, I was preparing to go out for a run. I picked up a T-shirt I just bought the other day from a Chinese clothing shop — it had some Chinese characters on the front, and a scene of Honolulu Chinatown on the back. I didn’t speak Chinese, but somehow this special T-shirt was quite soft and good for exercise.Working in a very negative environment, I found morning runs very beneficial — body tired but mind awake.
And I had always met an elderly Chinese gentleman walking on the opposite side of the trail (道路) when I was running on other mornings. I had always said, “Good morning,” and he had always smiled warmly and nodded his head slightly.
As I was going out the door, my mother suddenly said, “I don’t think running is so hot — that famous runner died.” I started to recount what I had read about Jim Fixx, and how running had probably been the contributing factor to his living far longer than most of the other members of his family, but I knew there was absolutely no point.
As I started running on my favorite trail, I found I couldn’t shake my mother’s statement. I was so discouraged that I could hardly run. I began thinking, “Why do I run at all? Serious runners probably think I look silly! I might have a heart attack on the trail — my dad had a fatal (致命的) heart attack at 50 years old, and he was seemingly in better shape than I am.”

Cynthia was a primary school student. She was curious about everything. She made efforts to get a good grade in every subject. She was a kind-hearted and outgoing girl. At school, she was always ready to help her classmates. At home, she helped her mum do some housework. She was never a concern to her mum, Mrs. Anderson.
However, Mrs. Anderson noticed a change in Cynthia these days. There were more quiet moments. Mrs. Anderson saw Cynthia looking out of the window, lost in thought. She also learned from her teacher that Cynthia wasn’t as focused on school as before. A sense of worry rose in Mrs. Anderson’s heart and she wondered about what was behind Cynthia’s unusual behavior.
Before going to bed, she started talking with Cynthia, asking about her day. However, Cynthia just said that nothing in particular happened. Mrs. Anderson’s concern grew. She decided to keep a closer eye, hoping to uncover the challenges her daughter might be facing.
One day, while cleaning up Cynthia’s bedroom, Mrs. Anderson discovered something unexpected — on her desk lay some books on how to treat injured birds. It was quite surprising. Cynthia had never told her about this. It also amazed Mrs. Anderson. She had a deep love for nature and birds and she could always find inspiration in their freedom and the beauty of their songs. She couldn’t help but wonder what had inspired her daughter’s newfound interest in birds.

One sunny morning, the sun began to rise, casting a warm golden glow over the park. Two young men named Tom and Jerry, who was lost in their own books, found themselves siting on opposite ends of a bench. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of children playing. Their eyes met for a brief moment before they both bent down to pick up their pens. It seemed as if they had known before. They quickly became friends and then began to spend many happy times together. They played basketball, watched movies, and spent many unforgettable days together. However, as time went on, their lives changed, and their friendship was put to the test.
A few years later, Tom became a successful lawyer, while Jerry chose a different path and became an artist. Despite different kinds of changes in their lifestyles, they still kept in touch and would gather together every once in a while to recall the good old days.
One day, Tom received a letter from Jerry. The letter said, “Dear Tom, I hope you can come and visit my art exhibition. I know you may not be interested in art, but I think you will like these works. They are all paintings I made during the days we spent together. I hope you can feel the friendship between us.”
After reading the letter, Tom immediately decided to attend Jerry’s art exhibition. He bought a bunch of flowers as a gift and arrived at the exhibition site. When he walked into the exhibition hall, he was shocked by what he saw. The walls were filled with Jerry’s works, each painting full of life and emotion. He saw scenes of them playing basketball in the park, watching movies together, and walking in the rain. These paintings made him feel the deep friendship between them.

“No matter how hard we try, some things are just not meant to be,” Andrew thought bitterly. He looked down at the hospital bills in his hands and tears filled his eyes. His poor mom had been so ill, and here he was complaining and feeling sorry for himself! He should be praying for her recovery, not crying over a lost, childish dream.
Andrew was nineteen, and as far back as he could remember, he’d wanted to become a software engineer. That dream had become harder to reach after his dad died when Andrew was twelve. His mom had been left to raise him on her own, and it was hard to make ends meet. So Andrew started doing part-time jobs.
Every cent he earned he put away for college. When he was sixteen, he got himself a summer job at a local IT company, where his insight and intelligence caught the owner’s eye. Mr. Lewis, the CEO, made Andrew the assistant of his best and most innovative developer, and the boy thrived (不断成长) on the challenge. He couldn’t wait to go to college!
Unfortunately, when Andrew was in his senior year in high school, his mother became very ill. The usually energetic woman was constantly tired and in pain. She went from doctor to doctor, but no one knew exactly what was wrong with her. They sent her off to do dozens of expensive tests, then shook their heads over the results. Andrew’s mom started getting weaker and weaker, and thinner and thinner until she could barely walk.
Andrew added up the medical bills and was shocked. They owed over $23,000! Andrew pulled out his bank book. He had close to $30,000 in his savings account. He’d painstakingly (艰苦地) saved up for YEARS, so he’d be able to go to college, but his mom’s health was more important.

As an only child, I often felt lonely in my youth. But that all changed when I turned ten. For my birthday, my grandmother surprised me with a lovely gray dog named Chloe. From the very start, we were inseparable (分不开的). I regarded her as my best friend. Every time a little love I gave, the little dog returned tenfold (十倍). She was such a sweet dog and she’d lick my face forever if I didn’t stop her. Once Chloe was injured, leaving a scar on her head. I cried for a long time and promised to protect her forever.
However, when I was 14, my father got a new job that came with a terrible warning: He’d be working from home, so the house needed to be absolutely quiet and couldn’t be disturbed by any sound. But Chloe was very yappy (喜欢叫的). With no easier choice, the whole family finally sent Chloe to a pet organization. Though we were optimistic that the dog would find a new home with people who loved her, we couldn’t know for sure.
I called the pet organzation to try to find out what happened to her, but they couldn’t tell me anything. So I never knew. As time went by, I grew up and got a good job. But my life didn’t feel quite complete. Remembering the joy that having a dog had brought me as a kid, I wanted to experience the same again. I had it in my mind that I would adopt a dog, but then one day I saw a post on the Internet about a senior dog that needed a new home. The dog in the photograph looked a lot like Chloe and it was even named Chloe.

I knew there wouldn’t be any presents that Christmas, which made me a bit sad. I was twelve and the oldest. My sisters, Angie and Susan, didn’t understand that our parents had no money but I saw the nearly empty cupboard. I knew Dad had been laid off.
Dad was a proud man who had trouble asking for help, especially when it came to finances (财务). In fact, he rarely accepted gifts of money for his struggling family. Food and clothing for his little girls and wife were thankfully accepted, but money was not.
Grandma Margaret, our neighbor across the street, was a good friend to my mom when she so desperately (极度) needed one. My mom’s family all lived far away, and we were lucky if we saw them once a year. We couldn’t afford the gas. So, Margaret became someone in whom my momma could confide (与……交心). Either Momma told Margaret about the financial struggles that holiday season, or Margaret saw there were no presents under the tree.
One day near Christmas, we heard a knock on the door, and in walked Grandma Margaret with a huge bag and a delicately wrapped (包装精美的) present. She walked over to the tree and placed that present under its branches. “For your mommy and daddy,” she said with a smile. Then she opened the huge bag and began calling our names. Each time she handed one of us girls a gift, she would say, “Not until Christmas morning!” We were excited!
After she left, we rushed to the tree and started shaking the packages, trying to figure out what was in each brightly wrapped package. I walked over to check my mom and dad’s gift. I picked it up and tried to imagine what might be inside. New plates for the dinner table? No, our dinner plates were fine. I’d have to wait until Christmas Day to find out what was inside.

There was nothing I wanted more than a trophy (奖杯). I was twelve, and the hope of placing a trophy on my dresser woke me up in the middle of the night.
All of my friends had trophies. Any of those would have excited me.
However, the problem for me was that I had no skills or gifts that would enable me to get a trophy.
My elder brother, Alan, had shelves of trophies, and most of them came from horse races. Before Dad died, he had bought each of us a horse. I named my horse Colonel. Alan’s was named Otis. When Alan kicked Otis’sides, he would run. Colonel always wanted to follow, and I could feel him speeding up, but I was afraid of falling, so I would pull on the ropes and we would fall behind.
After my father died, my mother seldom went to the stables (马厩) where we boarded the horses. Mostly she stayed in her room. Alan cooked our meals and paid our bills with money he made by waiting tables. This was also the year when I started smoking, cutting class, and hanging out with kids who, like me, had no trophies and couldn’t care less.
When the worst of my report cards arrived, Alan angrily asked, “What do you think you’re doing? Who do you think you’re fooling?” I answered, “I truly don’t know.” I just felt life was meaningless, dull and aimless.
Alan started picking me up from school. He didn’t allow me to stay with bad kids, and we drove to the stables to ride until night fell. Through all of this, I still loved riding and still found comfort in being around Colonel, but I hated being made to ride.
After a week of being forced to spend my afternoons with him, I was angry. Alan just said, “I entered you in the horse race. It’s in two weeks.” I was surprised and excited, but I didn’t let on. I just asked angrily, “Why?”
“You still want a trophy, right?” he said.

Mr Jackson was a well-respected teacher in their small town. He had always paid much attention to his students, especially the ones who needed help. When he noticed that one of his students, Emily, was not getting on the school bus with all the other children and that her exam results had dropped a bit, he became worried.
One day, he decided to follow her and was surprised when he saw her walking towards an old factory building. He parked his car a few blocks away from the factory and waited for Emily to enter. After a few minutes, he carefully moved toward the building, his heart racing with each step.
As he entered the dark and dirty inside of the building, his mind was flooded with a sense of pity. Then he saw Emily sitting on the floor, surrounded(包围) by her textbooks and notebooks.
“Emily, what are you doing here?” Mr Jackson asked, surprised.
Emily looked up and was surprised to see her teacher. She said, “Oh, Mr Jackson! I came here to do my homework. It’s quiet here, and I feel safe.”
“Why don’t you go home?” he asked, his concern(担忧) growing.
“I live with my mother. Recently, my mother lost her job and we haven’t found a house yet,” she replied. “And my father used to work here, so it’s a familiar place to me.”
Mr Jackson was heartbroken to hear this. He knew he had to do something to help Emily. He sat down beside Emily and asked her to tell him everything that was going on.
Emily shared stories about her father, who had passed away a few years before. She talked about how her mother had struggled(努力) to make ends meet.
Mr Jackson listened carefully. The more he knew about Emily, the more he realized that being a teacher was not only about teaching subjects, it was also about shaping young minds and making a difference to their lives. He decided to take action.

Devin opened his closet door for the third time and pulled out his shoes. “Mom, have you seen my baseball glove?” he called.
“I’ve looked everywhere. When was the last time you had it?” Mom asked.
“Yesterday,” Devin said. “I was playing catch with Silvio after his birthday party.”
“I hope you didn’t leave it there,” Mom said. Devin’s cousin, Silvio, lived 45 minutes away. Mom pulled out her phone and texted Uncle Gabe.
Devin still kneeled on the floor and checked under his bed. Within a minute, Mom’s phone received a message from Uncle Gabe, saying Devin’s baseball glove was there. Devin shook his head. “I have a game in an hour! Dad’s a lefty (左撇子), so I can’t borrow his glove.” “Use mine,” said Mom. “But it’s a softball glove and pink,” said Devin doubtfully. But Mom said there was not much difference and that her team won the city championship with their pink gloves last summer. “People will think it’s a girl’s,” said Devin. “Some of the best players on your team are girls,” Mom said. She handed Devin her glove. He tried it on. “Top of the line,” Mom said. “I had the fewest errors of any infielder (内野手) in the league.” Devin nodded. Both of his parents were excellent athletes, and he was too. He snapped the glove open and shut, open and shut, thinking, “I guess this glove will do.”
Then Mom drove Devin to the field. She told Devin that Dad would meet them there and she reminded Devin not to forget her pink glove.
Before the game, Devin practiced pitching (投球) deep into the center field. He hit several more pitches before the coach told him to warm up at the base.
His teammates noticed his glove. “Isn’t that a girl’s glove?” Jordan, one of his teammates, asked. Devin frowned. “It’s my mom’s. I don’t have mine.” “Pink glove! Pink glove!” several other boys also laughed.

Finally, the bell rang. “Don’t forget to practice your class presentation at home!” Miss Bella cried as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jessy felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when Jessy was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jessy watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain so rt of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jessy sighed. As she turned the corner, she saw Lee’s watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jessy knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn’t want to run after him. Jessy bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jessy put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her. “I’m going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I’ve won lots of competitions. But when I’m in a race, I’m not really thinking about winning. I’m just loving the feeling of being in the water...”Jessy laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain so rt of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jessy saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really did have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Bella asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jessy slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Bella could say anything, there was a shout from behind. “She’s stolen my watch!” Lee said angrily, “It went missing at school yesterday.”

On a bitterly cold January day, I saw Bobby in my fourth-grade classroom for the first time. He was wearing worn-out shirt and jeans, obviously too small. One of his shoes was missing a lace, flopping (移动) up and down when he walked. He looked so disgusting that nobody would treat him as a normal child.
Bobby’s behavior was strange, too. His normal tone of voice was a yell. He never made eye contact with anyone, and made his comments continuously during class.
Besides, Bobby’s academic skills were non-existent. He couldn’t read or write, not even the letters of the alphabet.
I thought Bobby should belong in a classroom that taught basic social skills. I checked his records and was shocked to learn that his IQ was normal. The school counselor (辅导顾问) told me that Bobby was a lot closer to normal than his mother was. He had been placed in Children’s Welfare Home for the first three years of his life before he was returned to his mother. They had moved to a different town at least once a year. Bobby’s intelligence was normal, so he would remain in my classroom.
I hated it but had to accept his being in my class. I had never taught someone like Bobby before. It was a struggle to even plan lessons for him. I took pride in being a good teacher, and I was disgusted with myself for not liking him and not wanting him in my class. One day, Bobby came into the classroom with his shirt torn and his nose bloodied. He had been jumped on by a group of my students. Bobby sat down and opened his book, pretending nothing had happened. Blood and tears dropped onto the pages. I sent Bobby to the nurse and scolded (训斥,责骂) those students angrily. I yelled that they ought to be ashamed of themselves for not liking him just because he acted strangely. His being different was even more reason to treat him kindly.

Summer was coming to an end and there was a bit of Autumn in the air. The temperatures were getting cooler and cooler, the air was turning drier, and I could already see the first yellow and red leaves on the trees. It’s my favorite season. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, which made people feel very comfortable. You could see fruit everywhere. Therefore, I spent as much time as possible in the wild enjoying the beauty of nature.
One day’, I had just finished taking my dogs for their morning walk when I noticed something. There was a young maple tree growing in my hallway. It was growing out of a tiny pile of earth on the porch (门廊) . Its bottom hadn’t even turned to wood yet, but it had three lovely red leaves growing out of it.
I smiled at this strong little tree getting so much growth and life out of so little soil. I knew, however, that it couldn’t grow much larger where it was. I bent (弯腰) down and gently took it out of the earth. I took it inside to show my daughter and have her take a picture of it. Then I walked with it out to the edge of the woods around the grass land behind my house.
Walking into the forest, I had a wonderful feeling. Nature can teach us so much about life. There are so many wonders, growth, and beauty in it. You can’t be out in it for long without being filled with wonder and respect.
I also took a moment to look at all the life around me. There were trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, butterflies, bees, spiders, and birds all’ so full of life. And I felt so happy that my behavior, however small, was helping do good to nature.

Humphrey and his wife Hildy had ten white sheep, eight black-faced sheep, and five long-legged lambs. Early every autumn, they would drive their sheep onto the ground beside the big, yellow barn(畜棚). Then Humphrey would hold each sheep still while Hildy cut off the wool.
When they finished, there were twenty-three soft piles of wool on the floor, and twenty-three pink, skinny sheep jumping around happily as they were freed into the field. Humphrey and Hildy collected piles of wool and put them in the house.
The next few weeks were very busy. They finally finished on cold, fall evening. Twenty-three bright, woolly blankets lay in cheerful piles around the kitchen. They would sell the warm blankets when winter came. By the time the snow flew, the sheep’s wool would have grown long enough to keep them nice and warm. Humphrey and Hildy both smiled, content with a job well done, and went to bed early.
The alarm clock went off at 5: 00 a.m. Humphrey and Hildy listened to the local weather report. “The earliest cold air in history,” The announcer said, “has brought a freeze(霜冻)to our area! So put warm coverings, folks!” They stared at each other in horror.
“The sheep!” shouted Humphrey. They hurried to put on their clothes and raced outside. What a freeze it was! The golden autumn grass fell to the ground, and the sheep without wool were shaking with cold painfully. Their pink skins had turned blue.

It was a tradition that my sons, their wives, and our grandchildren would spend Christmas Day at our house. So we loaded Jake, our first pet dog, who was diagnosed(诊断为)with cancer, in the back seat of my car, setting out to buy the things at dusk.
Our first stop was at the dollar store to pick up wrapping paper and decorations. As we approached the cashier desk, my husband said, “I’ll be out in the car with Jake.” He returned a few minutes later. “Do you have the car keys?”
“No,” I responded. I searched the passages(通道)in vain before leaving the store as fast as I could. When I got back to the car, my husband was starting the engine. He told me it was our dog Jake that found the car keys. We drove to the grocery store. As we got out of the car, I reached down for my purse and fear stole into me as I realized it wasn’t there. “Wait,” I cried to my husband. “My purse. I think I must have left it in the cart at the dollar store.”
My husband didn’t say anything as we both climbed back in the car. Fifteen minutes later we returned to find another car now at the spot where we had previously parked. The cart was still there, but it was empty. I jumped out of the car and began searching the bushes. It didn’t take long to realize my efforts were useless. My purse was gone. I started to cry.
“Are you alright Ma’am?” a woman about my age asked. I hadn’t even noticed her approach me.
“I lost my purse in the dollar store. Left it in the cart,” I stammered(结结巴巴地). “I had over two hundred dollars in it. Even if we find it, it’ll probably be empty,” I said sadly.
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that. There are still some good people in the world,” she responded. “It still may show up. ”

【答案】 “Help!” I shouted with all my strength. When I woke up, I found myself lying in bed and my leg hurt. Suddenly I saw Apple. It looked at me with excited eyes and licked my hand with its tongue, as if it were glad I woke up. It was lying beside my bed excitedly, and I stroked his head gently. “You finally woke up.” Wendy smiled at me.
Later, Windy told me that when she got home from work, Apple was waiting for her. “Apple, why are you here alone? Where is your master?” Wendy asked with concern. At the sight of Wendy, Apple kept barking anxiously around the circle and looked at the direction of the valley. Wendy realized that there seemed to be some danger, and she hurried out to catch up with Apple. “After a long time walk, Apple brought me to you! Thank God you are still alive!” After listening to Wendy, I looked back at Apple. I was glad to own such a brave and loyal dog!

【答案】One possible version:
My mother’s statement remained in my mind like a giant blanket. Gradually, my jog slowed to a walk. My body drained of energy and my mind felt extremely defeated. Just as I was going to turn around and head for home — feeling more discouraged than I could recall in years — I saw that elderly Chinese gentleman again. Seeing my shirt in the distance had prompted him to march towards me. With limited English he pointed to the letters and enthusiastically said, “You very good… you very fast.”
Upon hearing the man’s words, I felt more unexplained strength in my step. He cast his usual warm smile at me and gave me a thumb up as we passed each other. A surge of warmth across my whole body, I didn’t turn from the trail where my previous dark mood had intended. Thanks to that little boost, I continued for six more miles that day instead. I was not that fast, but was very good in my spirit and my heart. Luckily, the elderly gentleman saved me from the shadow of negative feedback.

【答案】Para 1:
The next morning, Mrs. Anderson saw Cynthia walking quietly into the backyard with a first aid kit in hand. She was careful as she approached a small bird, which lay still on the ground, its wings folded tightly against its body. Cynthia gently picked up the bird and examined it carefully, then began to apply some salve to its wounds. Mrs. Anderson realized that Cynthia had been secretly nursing injured birds back to health. She felt a sense of pride wash over her as she watched her daughter, who had always been so kind and helpful.
Para 2:
Mrs. Anderson couldn’t help but walk out. She approached Cynthia and asked, “What are you doing, dear?” “I found this bird injured in the yard and I’m trying to help it,” she replied. Mrs. Anderson smiled and sat down beside her daughter. She knew that Cynthia’s love for birds was a reflection of her own kind heart and that she was simply following in her mother’s footsteps. They sat there for a while, mother and daughter, lost in the beauty of the moment.

The next day, Andrew went to see Mr. Lewis. He asked Mr. Lewis if he could have a full-time job at his company. Mr. Lewis looked at him for a long time and said “No!” in an angry voice. Andrew was shocked. He apologized and left as quickly as he could. He went straight to the hospital and paid off the medical bills. His savings account was almost empty, and Mr. Lewis had been rude, but his mother had great news. The new doctor said that his mother’s disease could be treated with medication.
That night, Mr. Lewis appeared on Andrew’s doorstep with a great idea. “Andrew,” he apologized, “I apologize for the way I spoke to you this morning, and I refused your request for a very good reason. You are a bright and talented young man, and I want you to go to college. My company will pay for your tuition, on the condition that you work for me for 5 years after you graduate.” Andrew accepted happily, and then he did well in college and when he graduated, he started to work for Mr. Lewis. The company became more than just the place where Andrew worked; it became his second family.

【答案】范文
I immediately decided that I would adopt this old dog. When I met Chloe, I was struck with a mysterious feeling. The dog seemed so familiar. And Chloe appeared to feel the same way about me. She ran up to me and started licking my face. Chloe reminded me so much of my old dog that the strong emotion overcame me. I began to cry. I just knew in my heart that it was my old Chloe. However, eight years had passed since I had seen Chloe last, so the idea seemed to be hard to prove. “How can I identify that you are my Chloe?” I thought in my mind confusedly, gently petting this old but cute dog.
But my mom suddenly realized there was a way to test my guess. She called the dog’s name “Chloe” softly. All of a sudden, Chloe jumped up three times continually. It was exactly what her used to do in the past. I was overjoyed to have her back. As for Chloe, she also knew that she would be with me forever.

【答案】Fast forward to Christmas morning. I sprang out of bed as soon as I woke up and rushed downstairs to find my sisters already there. Overwhelmed by excitement and expectation, I couldn’t wait to open my present. The whole living room was filled with happiness. But what I was most curious about was the gift specifically for Mom and Dad. When Mom unwrapped the delicate package carefully, we were greeted by a $100 and a note saying “Just take it as a Christmas gift.”
Immediately, Mom’s eyes teared up as she looked hopefully at my dad. I knew he was caught in a dilemma. On one hand, Dad was a proud man who was unwilling to accept financial help. On the other hand, we really needed the money to help us pull through. So after hesitating for a while, he nodded his head, as if to say “It’s OK. You can keep it.” Mom bought some necessities with the money, including delicious food and invited Grandma Margaret to join us for dinner. We chatted a lot at the dinner table, and it was the happiest Christmas in my memory.

【答案】 I nodded and said, “Sure. But I’m unable to make it.” Alan looked at me and said he would help me. From that day on, Alan continued picking me up from school, and we drove to the stables to ride. I distanced myself from the bad kids, and I thought of strategies for running races faster. Through hard work, Colonel and I had lit upon a new rhythm and we rode hard and fast, the way I’d always watched Alan ride. Finally, the big day came. At first, I made mistake after mistake, but gradually my horse ran faster and faster.
Finally, Colonel and I crossed the finish line in third place. Alan and my mother clapped happily. Soon came the moment of the awards ceremony. When the judge handed the trophy to me, I shed tears with excitement, and Alan gave me a thumbs-up. Back home, I placed the trophy on my dresser. In the following years, I got different trophies. It was my brother who taught me how to ride and how to live. Thanks to him, I became a better person.

His teammates also performed very well. After much hard work they finally won. They were all very delighted. “We have to admit that pink glove is really amazing,” Jordan said. Devin smiled again, proud and confident.
The game was over, and Devin met his parents outside the field. “You won the game with the pink glove,” Mom said with a smile. Devin’s face went red and they laughed. Dad said he could take a ride down to Silvio’s the next day so Devin would have his own glove for the next game. “Or Uncle Gabe can drop it off when he comes up this way next week,” Dad added. “Next weel is OK,” Devin said. “Before that, I can still use Mom’s amazing pink glove!”

Then came Miss Bella’s voice, “Why is Lee’s watch on your wrist?” Jessy hesitated for a while and decided to tell the truth. However, on second thoughts of the well-prepared speech and the magic of the watch, she changed her mind. “Miss Bella, could I give the speech first and then explain?” She made a request in a tone of begging.
Miss Bella smiled and asked the class to listen to Jessy’s speech first. Jessy put away her fright, took a deep breath, and made for the platform. Casting a glance at the sea of faces watching her, Jessy cleared her throat and began her speech. “I’m going to talk about swimming...” Word began to flood out of her. “What a terrific speech.” Whispers went around the classroom, and even Miss Bella nodded with approval. Immediately Jessy finished her speech, a storm of applause erupted from the class. Relieved, Jessy told everyone the truth, and especially the magic of the watch. She returned the watch to Lee as she eventually realized the real source of confidence.

That incident changed how I felt about Bobby. Witnessing a little boy in desperate need of care and help, I realized not only should a teacher teach academics but also meet the needs of the students! I bought Bobby some nice clothes, with which he wouldn’t be teased any more. Thrilled and grateful, he marveled, “Thanks, Miss!” with glittering tears in his eyes like stars. A surge of being trusted wrapped me, and I offered to help him with his homework before school.
It was amazing to see the change in Bobby that resulted from the new clothes and extra attention. Coming out of his shell, he started making brief eye contact with me and performed properly, through which I found he really was a likeable child. I no longer dreaded going to work, and even looked forward to seeing him coming down the hallway in the morning. Afterwards, as my attitude toward him changed, so did the other students. They stopped picking on him and included him as a part of the group. Just give more attention and love. Every child deserves a chance to change.

I wanted to find a happy home for this young tree, to grow freely and strong. I searched for a place where it could receive enough sunlight and water, yet be protected from strong winds. Finally, I found a small clearing in the woods, surrounded by taller trees that would provide shade and protection. Carefully, I dug a small hole in the soft soil and placed the maple tree inside. The tree seemed happy in its new home, its leaves glistening in the sunlight. I knew that this little tree would grow strong and tall, just like all the other trees in the forest.
Para 2:
Following my daughter’s suggestion, we built a garden to save plants. We collected seeds and seedlings from around the neighborhood, planting them in our small plot of land. We watered them regularly, watching them grow and bloom. It was a beautiful garden, full of life and color. Our neighbors joined us, and soon, the whole community was involved. The garden became a place where people came together, sharing stories and laughter. It was a reminder of the beauty and importance of nature, and a symbol of our commitment to protecting it.

【答案】One possible version:
“What will we do?” Hildy cried. “The barn can’t hold so many sheep.” They had to drive twelve of them into the barn, and five in the garage. As for the other six, there was no other choice but to drive them into the kitchen. The next morning, wakened up by Humphrey’s angry cries, Hildy rushed to the kitchen. What a mess! A lamb was lying beside the fireplace, chewing a corner of Humphrey’s newspaper, and another black-faced sheep had just knocked down the plates and bowls from the breakfast table.
Outside the messy kitchen, Hildy had a good idea, eyes falling on the blankets. “If we give them back their wool, they can go outside.” Humphrey followed her gaze, “Hildy, how could we keep those blankets on the sheep? They’d fall off in the strong wind!” Hildy tapped her chin thoughtfully: “Maybe we can.” Grabbing a blanket from the nearest pile, she began unraveling the blankets and then was busy knitting for their sheep.(OR: She began to sew buttons onto one side of the blankets and buttonholes made of strings on the other.)Finally, twenty-three warm “wool sweaters” were on their sheep, protecting them from the cold as they played outside.

【答案】The woman took my hand and pressed something into my palm before closing my hand into a fist. “Merry Christmas,” she whispered in my ear, disappearing into the night. I was so shocked that it took me a minute to open my hand, but when I did, I gasped. I couldn’t believe it; the woman had given me two one-hundred-dollar bills. What really mattered the most to me wasn’t the money, but that I had come across someone special, someone who really cared.
When we arrived home there was a white car I didn’t recognize in front of our house. A stranger stood on our front porch ringing the doorbell. Not only did she find my lost wallet, but it took her half an hour to drive it back to me. This Christmas was a little sad because of Jake’s illness. It was also a little more special, however, thanks to the two angels, each offering kindness to a crazy woman with a sick dog. While I have no way of contacting them personally to thank them for their gifts and explain what their kindness meant to me, I’ve tried to follow their example and pass their kindness forward.
