Every time I called him to answer questions, he'd reply with a flip (轻率的) answer. If he got it wrong, he would get very angry. Usually kids could sit quietly in class. However Tyler was just loud. One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. I said to him, “Tyler, why not join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” He got up from his chair, pushed it over, and shouted something I can't remember. I sent him to the office and he received a week's out-of-school punishment. The week was a wonderful time for me without the noisy Tyler, but when it came to an end, I began to feel worried. So I came up with a plan. On the day of his return, I told him I wanted to start over with him. If he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he could step outside the door for a moment. From then on, Tyler was a changed student in my classroom. In fact he was a smart child and he even stopped a fight between two students one day. And he never used the privilege (特权) to leave the class for a moment. I believe that just letting him decide for himself made all the difference. When the school year was over, he wrote me a thank-you note about how good the year had been for him. I still have it today and find it very moving to reread when I get stressed about teaching. 24. When Tyler was talking in class, what did the teacher advise him to do? A. Join in their discussion. B. Have his own discussion. C. Get up from his chair. D. Go out of school 25. Tyler did all the following things EXCEPT . A. sitting in the back row. B. leaving the class for a moment. C. stopping a fight between two students. D. not listening to teachers in class. 26. Everytime the teacher reads the thank-you note, how does he feel? A. Stressed. B. Worried. C. Satisfied. D. Moved 27. What is the passage mainly about? A. How Tyler got the punishment. B. How Tyler changed to be a good student. C. How the teacher dealt with Tyler's return. D. How the teacher felt about Tyler's thank-you note. C During my time abroad in college, I traveled to 15 countries in Europe, and it fully changed my life. It changed my view on the world and on my life goals in general. So with that experience, I always knew I wanted to travel more. During school breaks and immediately after graduation, I took three other long backpacking trips around Asia, the Middle East, and Europe again. I realized I had visited 50 countries. My goal was to visit 100 countries by the time I was 30. For whatever reason, I thought that sounded cool. I ended up achieving that goal at about 25. In 2006 I got an email from a friend saying that there was a record of the youngest to visit every country in the world. I basically assessed (评价) how long I had to break the record and where I had to go. Even if I didn’t get the record, it’d still be fun and I’d get to see the whole world. It turns out that it is a great decision, and I have done so much around the world. I became the youngest American to visit every country in 2011 when I was 32 after safely visiting. But like everyone, I needed to make money to afford the travel I wanted, so I got a proper Wall Street job, worked really hard, and did pretty well. But in the summer of 2008, I simply resigned (辞职) my position at a major Wall Street firm. It happened right before the major collapse (倒塌,倒闭) of several major firms, so it made me look smart, but it was just coincidence (碰巧). I didn’t specifically leave my job to pursue the goal. I left the job because I needed a rest after eight years. 28. How many countries did the author visit at the age of 25 or so? A. 15. B. 30. C. 50. D. 100. 29. What can we learn from the second paragraph ? A. The author was pleased with his decision. B. The author’s friend has ever set a record. C. The author decided to live in America. D. The author regretted travelling around the world. 30. What does the author think of his resignation from the major Wall Street firm? A. Anxious. B. Lucky. C. Stupid. D. Worried. 31. What does the author mainly talk about? A. His study abroad. B. His daily life. C. His travel. D. His career. D Every school has students who stand out for their abilities and their eagerness (渴望) to learn. In Mexico, a school created a program to work with them. In 2019. both teachers Lotta Andersson and John Rennie got the idea to provide learning opportunities for students with a desire for knowledge. They are English coordinators (协调员) in the school. “We want to have a program to encourage students who really have the abilities and the interests to learn more and continue accepting challenges,” Andersson said during a recent interview. Students in the program, which was called Learning Challenges, met with the teachers about once a month. Andersson and Rennie would help us choose research topics. We then worked with the teachers to find books, interview subjects and Internet sources, While in Learning Challenges, I gave statements on European culture and the fashion industry. When asked what skills students had formed in the program, which ended in June 2020 because of the limits of a common disease. Andersson said, “They had learned to ask questions, be more open-minded and see things from different angles (角度). Also, they mastered the skills-reflecting more, acting actively, and learning not to put limits on themselves.” A student, Yihane Abed, carried out research on the sun, the moon, stars, planets, etc, while in Learning Challenges. “The skills I developed were teamwork and the ways to do research and give a good presentation,” she said. Andersson and Rennie continue to help students pursue their love of learning. “The program doesn’t exist formally, but as an important part of the culture at school, it is still needed,” Andersson said. “There is much more difference, not only for students who need extra help, but also for those who are higher achievers.” 32. What’s the purpose of creating Learning Challenges? A. To help some students learn more. B To guide students to work out effectively. C. To improve students’ interest in visiting Europe. D. The next morning, Henry awoke to another message from Radio XENY: They had found Jane, an eight-year-old girl. She and her family indeed lived in Nogales. In 2006, I got an email from a friend saying that there was a record of the youngest to visit every country in the world. Ten years ago, he and his wife lost their only child, a son. They have no grandchildren. On December 16, 2018, Henry noticed a balloon's string (绳子) was attached to a piece of paper. "Jane" it read on one side, in a child's writing. Henry turned the paper over and found it was a Christmas list. He wondered whether he could find the girl who had sent this one. It would be difficult, but Henry had a few clues (线索). About 20 miles to the southwest, just across the border, was the city of Nogales Mexico, with a population of about a quarter million. Based on the prevailing (当时的) wind, he was quite sure that was where it had come from. On December 19, 2018, he decided to send a private Facebook message to Radio XENY, an AM radio station based in Nogales. To his surprise, someone from the station called him back right away. The next morning, Henry awoke to another message from Radio XENY: They had found Jane, an eight-year-old girl. She and her family indeed lived in Nogales. Would they be willing to arrange a get-together at the radio station? Henry went with his wife to the supermarket. They bought just about everything on Jane's list. They also bought a few other toys, as they had learned that Jane had a younger sister, four-year-old Kate. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; Paragraph 1: Then the old couple drove for 45 minutes and reached Nogales. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: This was the first time anyone had found the note. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Then the old couple drove for 45 minutes and reached Nogales. They arrived at the radio station. With presents in a big bag, they went upstairs and entered the office. There they were warmly greeted by two very excited little girls and their parents. “Are you Santa Claus?” They were confused by their appearances. Not wanting to spoil Santa Claus for the girls, who still believe, Henry and his wife told them they were “Santa’s helpers”. Their parents explained to the Henry and his wife that Jane had been writing a letter to Santa and sending it by balloon for years. This was the first time anyone had found the note. The two sisters’ eyes were wide open with both surprise and wonder. As each present was taken from the bag, their eyes got bigger and bigger with surprise. They danced excitedly, and cried gratefully, “Oh, this really did work!” Seeing their smiling faces and laughing eyes, the old couple realized it was a beautiful and quite healing experience for them. The two families became friends for life after that. 词汇激活 行为类 ①到达:arrive at/reach/get to ②想要:want to/intend to ③解释:explain/interpret ④看到:see/witness 情绪类 ①困惑的:confused/puzzled ②感激地:gratefully/thankfully 【点睛】【高分句型1】Not wanting to spoil Santa Claus for the girls, who still believe, Henry and his wife told them they were “Santa’s helpers”.(运用了现在分词作状语和who引导的非限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】Their parents explained to the Henry and his wife that Jane had been writing a letter to Santa and sending it by balloon for years.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
