Almost everyone has experienced the feeling of discomfort when their actions do not agree with their inner values. A man, for example, values work-life balance yet works 80 hours every week, caring little about his own health and family. Another example is a boy who holds his parents’ love dear but gets angry at them in a moment of stress; or a woman who hopes to live healthily but gives in to the attraction of fast food during moments of weakness.
This disagreement can lead to serious results, such as worsening relationships, limited personal growth, and self-doubt. The emotional effects of feeling out of control and unable to live up to our own standards can also be deeply harmful. The shame and upset that go along with these feelings often force us into silence, resulting in more self-doubt. One reason for this silence might be that admitting (承认) to these behaviors can feel like showing a weakness or mistake that society tells us should be kept hidden. What’s more, recognizing this disagreement requires coming face to face with uncomfortable truths about ourselves—a process that is as discouraging as it is necessary for growth.
Recognizing and addressing these behaviors can provide a possibility of change. By looking into the causes of our behaviors, we can begin to understand our actions more easily and work toward sticking to our beliefs. Research supports the idea that recognizing this disagreement, together with mindfulness and open communication, can help with this process. These methods help us slow down, reflect (反思), and choose behaviors that follow our values more closely, even in the face of old habits or immediate needs.
The key to dealing with this disagreement lies in compassion (同情) for ourselves and others. By developing a culture of openness and by understanding the challenges of aligning behaviors with beliefs, we can begin to break down what prevents us from having conversation and change. Admitting that this disagreement is a shared part of the human experience can enable us to speak openly, find support, and take necessary steps toward the agreement between our inner world and our actions.
While the disagreement between our inner values and actions may be common, through reflection, understanding and purposeful practice, we can bridge the divide and set out on a journey of self-discovery.
9. Why does the writer use the examples in Paragraph 1?
A. To stress an unavoidable need. B. To show a result of the wrong values.
C. To describe a common human experience. D. To introduce a change in people’s relationships.
10. What does the word “aligning” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Matching. B. Comparing. C. Mixing. D. Confusing.
11. Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?
A. Discomfort forces us to give up our beliefs.
B. Our behaviors weaken our understandings of life.
C. Open communication makes it possible for us to change.
D. Keeping silent allows us time to live up to our standards.
12. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To encourage people to stay true to their beliefs.
B. To prove the importance of having the right values.
C. To compare different ways to deal with discomfort.
D. To discuss the influence of people’s improper actions.
【答案】9. C 10. A 11. C 12. A
根据画线词所在句中的“By developing a culture of openness and by understanding the challenges of aligning behaviors with beliefs, we can begin to break down what prevents us from having conversation and change.” 故选A。
11. 观点态度题。通读第三段,根据第三句“Research supports the idea that recognizing this disagreement, together with mindfulness and open communication, can help with this process.”
故选A。

Say hello to future you!
Imagine being able to talk to your future self and get to know what your life might be like years from now. A new online chat platform (平台) called Future You has made this possible.
Future You was created by scientists from different research institutes (机构), including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US. Powered by AI, the program begins by asking users questions about their personalities, current lives and future plans. It then uses this information as “memories” to create a simulation (模拟) of the user at the age of 60. This allows users to ask questions and get advice for the future from “themselves”.
The platform can also produce a photo for each user, showing how they might look at age 60. “The system makes the simulation very realistic (逼真的). Future You is much more detailed than what a person could come up with by just imagining their future selves,” said Pattie Maes, a MIT scientist who worked on the program.
According to the platform’s official website, Future You is designed to “help users develop more long-term thinking” by improving their “future self-continuity” (未来自我连续性). This term describes how connected a person feels to his or her future self. The stronger the connection, the more likely a person is to make decisions that benefit their long-term well-being, in areas such as money, education, or health.
The scientists tested Future You on 344 volunteers. Those who interacted with Future You for 10 to 30 minutes felt less anxious (焦虑的) and more motivated (有动力的) about the uncertain nature of the future compared to those who chatted with a general AI or only filled out surveys.
However, Future You has its limits. “It is not clear whether people have done anything different [or] changed their behavior (行为) as a result of interacting with their future self,” Ivo Vlaev from the UK’s University of Warwick told Euronews. In addition, the AI program can only offer a look into one possible future, rather than make various predictions. At the end of the day, “it’s all a big pretend”, noted an article in Forbes. We shouldn’t take Future You’s words as completely true.
13. What do paragraphs 2 and 3 mainly talk about?
A. The role MIT played in Future You.
B. The AI technology used in Future You.
C. The creation and features of Future You.
D. The development background of Future You.
14. What is the main purpose of Future You, according to the official website?
A. To predict future events. B. To reduce users’ stresses in life.
C. To help users plan for a better future. D. To connect users with others.
15. How did the volunteers feel after interacting with Future You?
A. More realistic about their limitations.
B. Less satisfied with their current lives.
C. More confident in their past decisions.
D. Less worried and more driven about the future.
16. What is a limitation of Future You mentioned in the text?
A. It can only show one possible future.
B. It may lead to dependency on AI.
C. It gives overly optimistic predictions.
D. It only works for a specific age group.

When you are making a phone call, they will ask who you’re speaking to. Those make teenagers unhappy, even less patient. Sometimes it seems that you’re not as close to your parents as you used to be. How can you change such a situation?
Both parents and children have needs. They need to feel they are important and loved. You should tell your parents your needs, and find out what their needs are. Maybe you can think of a way to make all of you happy.
When you think “my parents don’t want me to have any fun”, it usually means your parents want you to be happy. You can make time to talk. To get your parents to know what you’re doing and what you want to do, you could talk about your school life now and your dreams for the future. It helps your parents know more about you. You can also keep a diary to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings. It’s necessary to show your parents you are growing up. Wash your own clothes and help around the house. Your parents will feel you are no longer a child. If you follow these steps, you will be able to break down the walls between you and your parents. Your home will be a happier place.
41. How do kids feel when their parents aren’t fair to them sometimes?
42. Who have needs to feel they are important and loved?
43. What can you do to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings?
44. Do you think a good relationship with your parents is important? Why or why not? ( Write 30 words or more)

Dear Jacky,
I got your letter this week. And I know your trouble now.
According to your letter, I learnt that you are concerned too much about your exams and that results in your worries. To deal with this problem, I suggest you following my ideas below.
First of all, communication is the key to reduce the pressure from your parents. You should tell them your worries and get more support from them. You had better ask them not to put too much pressure on you. Besides, hard work is always necessary and essential since you expect good achievements in exams. On the other hand, health is the same important for a good score. Therefore, you had better do some sports after school to keep you healthy as well as make you relaxed. More importantly, good health and achievements can never go without good sleeping. To sleep well, why not drink a cup of milk before going to bed?
That’s all for my advice. I hope they can help you. Good luck to you.
Love from
Miss Wang

In the men’s singles final of table tennis at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Fan Zhendong defeated the Swedish player Moregard with a score of 4 to 1 and successfully won the championship, completing a great achievement.
Fan Zhendong has a friendly nickname “Xiao Pang” and it is very popular. Looking back at the whole game journey, his road to success wasn’t easy. In the men’s singles quarterfinals, he met the strong Japanese player Harimoto Tomokazu. At the start, he was in a hard situation and was losing 0 to 2. Later, he was once behind 2 to 3. But with strong fighting spirit and good skill, he finally achieved a great reversal (反转) and defeated Harimoto Tomokazu 4 to 3, successfully moving on to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, facing the French player, Fan Zhendong quickly showed complete control. His moves were smooth and exact, and every time he hit the ball, it went exactly where he wanted it to. The French player tried his best, but he couldn’t match Fan’s fast play. Fan didn’t let the French player get a chance to catch up, always putting stress on him with strong shots. With his confident attitude and great play, Fan made it to the final without much trouble.
In the final, Fan faced Moregard, who is not only good at playing table tennis but also has a unique style.

Sometimes, kids don’t think their parents are fair to them. When you want to dress in a modern way, your mum won’t allow you to wear a mini-skirt. When you are making a phone call, they will ask who you’re speaking to. Those make teenagers unhappy, even less patient. Sometimes it seems that you’re not as close to your parents as you used to be. How can you change such a situation?

Fan Zhendong has a friendly nickname “Xiao Pang” and it is very popular. Looking back at the whole game journey, his road to success wasn’t easy. In the men’s singles quarterfinals, he met the strong Japanese player Harimoto Tomokazu. At the start, he was in a hard situation and was losing 0 to 2. Later, he was once behind 2 to 3.

Dear Jacky,
I got your letter this week.
