Instruction will focus on the fundamentals of problem solving in fun and age-appropriate ways, as well as improving their skills in quickly judging how to solve a problem by recognizing its type.
根据Program Fees and Financial Support部分中的“The regular fee is $17 and includes a free 60-minute training class if registered by February 25. (常规费用为17美元,如果在2月25日之前注册,包括免费的60分钟培训课程。)”和Discounts and Refund Policy部分“There will be discounts for group registrations ($2 discount per student for 20 participants,$3 discount for 30, $4 for 40). (团体报名有折扣(20人每人2美元折扣,30人每人3美元折扣,40人每人4美元折扣)。)”可知,20名学生在2月24日注册可以享受每人减免2美元的优惠,即每人支付15美元。所以,20名学生的总费用为15*20=$300。故选A。

When Soares was a young boy growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, his family didn’t have the means to pay for extracurricular activities. However, they found a solution by signing him up for a free circus school that aimed to keep him off the streets and out of trouble. It was there that Soares discovered his passion for performance art, including acrobatics, capoeira, acting, and clowning. Ballet never crossed his mind as a practical career option, as ballet wasn’t a noticeable dance form in Brazil at the time.
At the age of 12, Soares began dancing but not in the traditional sense. His older brother was part of a hip-hop street dance group, and Soares started hanging out with them. He soon combined his circus school skills with hip-hop and capoeira to create a unique style that fascinated audiences in Rio.
One day, the head of a Brazilian dance company saw Soares perform and arranged for him to selection for a dance school. He was awarded a scholarship that covered his tuition fees, and he began studying modern dance. However, it wasn’t long before everyone believed that Soares should switch to ballet. He was immediately put on a fast track, attending academic school in the mornings and ballet classes in the evenings.
Soares’ parents were hesitant about their son pursuing ballet as a career. They were worried about his grades and whether ballet would provide him with a stable future. Soares shared their concerns and had never known anyone who pursued ballet professionally.
Despite these reservations, something incredible happened within two years of Soares starting ballet training. He participated in the Paris International Dance Competition and won a silver medal. This achievement was even more impressive considering that most of his competitors had been studying ballet since childhood. After Paris, Soares joined the national ballet company in Brazil and began earning money from his dancing.
Three years later, he went on to win the gold medal at the Moscow International Competition, previously won by legendary ballet dancers like Mikhail Baryshnikov.
24.Why was Soares sent to a circus school?
A.To seek a chance to make a name. B.To stop him getting into trouble.
C.To earn money to pay for tuition fees. D.To develop an interest in performance art.
25.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Modern dance became his favorite. B.Winning a scholarship was his main aim.
C.He quickly displayed his talent for ballet. D.His academic classes had to give way to ballet classes.
26.What is the original attitude of Soares’ parents to his pursuing ballet?
A.Doubtful. B.Objective. C.Supportive. D.Unclear.
27.What’s the best title for the text?
A.An Unconventional Journey to a Ballet Star
B.The Financial Struggles of a Young Dancer
C.Modern Dance: A Gateway to Ballet Excellence
D.The Dilemma: Balancing School and Ballet for Success

Is boredom a thing of the past, like black-and-white television? And, if so, is that a good thing? Julie Robinson, a former teacher who now represents the Independent Association of Prep Schools, thinks that boredom is regarded as an enemy of today’s children, and they are losing the ability to become thoughtful and reflective (沉思的).
“We should not fear boredom.” said Julie Robinson. “Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,” she added.
Her opinion is that constant (连续不断的) activity for a child, often the result of the dreams of parents, will lead to concerned and worrying adult. The traditional ideas that children should be constantly active could prevent the development of their imagination. So anything that improves a greater thoughtfulness is to be warmly welcomed.
Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. They seek an electronic devices (设备) to play games at once. And we didn’t feel bored during long car journeys anymore by the impatient “Are we there yet?” because all kinds of electronic devices have been taken along to avoid even a minute of boredom. So what chance do children have to allow their thoughts to wander?
But it’s not just children who need lessons in reflection. Adults need that, too. On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the county side. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. There were emails to send, texts to read, and games to play. The wider world, seemingly, didn’t exist. The mobile phone has changed many things about our lives, and has developed an inability — among adults as well as children — to live in the present. What Julie Robinson regards is a cross-generational phenomenon: the fear of “inactivity”. And she is right.
28.Julie Robinson thinks boredom is useful because it makes children_________.
A.find effective solutions to social problems
B.improve the ability to learn knowledge
C.have time to think and have their imagination developed
D.communicate more with their parents and friends
29.Which of the following is seen as “inactivity” according to the last paragraph?
A.Sending emails on a train. B.Playing games with friends.
C.Planning constant activity for children. D.Looking out of the window at the beautiful views.
30.The author mentioned the train journey to show that_________.
A.the trip on a quiet train was very boring B.the view of the countryside was beautiful
C.people had too much work to do D.electronic devices influence people’s life greatly
31.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Both adults and children like to stay alone and recall their past days.
B.People fail to leave their children enough time to think and imagine.
C.Electronic devices are always good for both children and adults.
D.Parents should tell their children how to use a mobile phone.

这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了现在人们都使用手机等电子产品来避免无聊,而作者认为无聊的存在是有其意义的——可以让孩子们在无聊中对一些问题进行思考。
【详情解析】
28.细节理解题。根据第二段中Julie Robinson说的话“Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,(无聊对孩子来说是有价值的。安静、沉思的时间和有目的的活动一样重要)”和第三段中“The traditional ideas that children should be constantly active could prevent the development of their imagination. So anything that improves a greater thoughtfulness is to be warmly welcomed.(传统观念认为的孩子应该持续活跃这一观点会阻碍他们想象力的发展。因此,任何能够提高更深思熟虑的事情都会受到热烈欢迎。)”可知,Julie Robinson认为无聊是有用的,因为它能让孩子们有时间思考,且发展他们的想象力。故选C。
29.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the countyside. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. There were emails to send, texts to read, and games to play. The wider world, seemingly, didn’t exist. The mobile phone has changed many things about our lives, and has developed an inability — among adults as well as children — to live in the present. What Julie Robinson regards is a cross-generational phenomenon (现象): the fear of “inactivity”.
根据最后一段中“On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the county side. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. 31.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,(无聊对孩子来说是有价值的。安静、沉思的时间和有目的的活动一样重要)”和第四段中“Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. When Shakespeare called a good night’s rest the “cure of hurt minds,” he was really onto something. According to a recent survey, “Most days or every day” in 2020, nearly 15 percent of American adults had trouble falling asleep in the previous month. So you’re a little sleepy — no big deal, right? Wrong. A 1999 article in the medical journal The Lancet showed and decades of research suggest that “sleep debt” can have significant harmful effects on your health.
Happiness is the first to suffer. Everyone knows what it feels like to run on insufficient (不足的) sleep — you can be foggy, inattentive, and bad-tempered. A paper published in the journal Health Psychology in 2020 found that the participants without enough sleep experienced a less positive mood when they came across quite ordinary stress, and smaller increases in positive mood from pleasant events. When lacking sleep, people felt annoyed more and easier, and things feel less fun.
More seriously, sleep loss can cause clinical depression and anxiety. In 2014, Australian scholars studying young women found that a year of frequent sleep difficulties predicted the onset of depression and anxiety in later years.
Some researchers have identified long-time sleep debt as a disease — insufficient sleep syndrome (ISS). Given the reported evidence for how widespread the syndrome is, it might even be classed as an epidemic. Although no study has yet established a connection, it seems reasonable to think about whether the long-term declines in American happiness and increases in social conflicts may be connected to loss of sleep.
Whether you are a sleep-deprived student, or workaholic, or just an old-fashioned insomniac (失眠症患者), attending to sleep is a critical strategy for health and happiness. And adjusting this aspect of your life could be one of the best things you do all year.
32.Why does the author mention Shakespeare?
A.To show Shakespeare’s wisdom. B.To introduce the topic of sleep loss.
C.To highlight a serious health problem. D.To give reported evidence of sleep debt.
33.What does the paper in Health Psychology tell us about insufficient sleep?
A.It made people feel negative. B.It led to poor eyesight.
C.It caused depression and anxiety. D.It was not worth much concern.
34.What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A.Reduction of happiness is linked to sleep loss.
B.Long-term lack of sleep is not a disease.
C.Sleep debt might affect both individuals and the society.
D.Insufficient sleep syndrome is a recognized epidemic.
35.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A.To confirm sleep loss is a disease. B.To advocate getting sufficient sleep.
C.To tackle widespread sleep problem. D.To prove happiness suffers from sleep debt.

33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“A paper published in the journal Health Psychology in 2020 found that the participants without enough sleep experienced a less positive mood when they came across quite ordinary stress, and smaller increases in positive mood from pleasant events. When lacking sleep, people felt annoyed more and easier, and things feel less fun.( 2020年发表在《健康心理学》期刊上的一篇论文发现,睡眠不足的参与者在遇到相当普通的压力时,积极情绪的增加幅度较小,而在愉快的事件中,积极情绪的增加幅度也较小。当睡眠不足时,人们更容易感到烦恼,事情也不那么有趣)”可知,《健康心理学》上的论文告诉我们,睡眠不足让人们感到消极。故选A项。
34.推理判断题。根据第四段“Some researchers have identified long-time sleep debt as a disease—insufficient sleep syndrome (ISS). Given the reported evidence for how widespread the syndrome is, it might even be classed as an epidemic. Although no study has yet established a connection, it seems reasonable to think about whether the long-term declines in American happiness and increases in social conflicts may be connected to loss of sleep. (一些研究人员认为,长期睡眠不足是一种疾病——睡眠不足综合症。考虑到报道的证据表明这种综合症是多么普遍,它甚至可能被归类为一种流行病。虽然还没有研究确定两者之间的联系,但我们有理由去思考,美国人幸福感的长期下降和社会冲突的增加是否与睡眠不足有关)”可推知,我们可以从第4段中了解到,睡眠不足可能影响个人和社会。故选C项。
35.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段“Whether you are a sleep-deprived student, or workaholic, or just an old-fashioned insomniac (失眠症患者), attending to sleep is a critical strategy for health and happiness. And adjusting this aspect of your life could be one of the best things you do all year. (无论你是一个睡眠不足的学生,还是工作狂,或者只是一个老派的失眠症患者,注意睡眠都是健康和幸福的关键策略。调整你生活的这一方面可能是你一年中做的最好的事情之一)”可推知,作者写这篇文章的目的是提倡充足的睡眠。故选B项。

Turning the Page
Life is filled with numerous victories and downfalls, but what matters is how you tackle each situation. May it be your love life or a serious life struggle, we must learn to move on. 36
Draw a line mentally.
Life is going to throw a lot of problems. You need to be mentally prepared for each and every situation. You might find yourself in the same knots, in the same rotting company, and in the same dead ends. 37 This line will help you mark your future decisions.
38
There is one common mistake that many of us make when dealing with a problem or situation: We try to go through all of it on our own. In order to get out of this situation, you must be willing to bring others into the struggle. When we talk about others, I refer to the people that you are close with. These could be your family and close friends.
Try everything in your hands.
How can you move on from a struggle unless you have tried everything in your hands? Sometimes we might feel that we have tried out so much and still nothing is working out for us. I know that situation as I have been there. 39 Try solutions that you never ever dreamed of, and who knows, they might actually make things better for you.
Let go of your past.
In order to move on from every struggle and heartbreak, you must let go of the past, guilt, and hatred. 40 You may feel like justifying them but they are only going to wear you out in the long run, so you have to avoid them.
Picture your goals in your mind and make sensible steps towards them with each passing day. Let nothing stand in your way.
A.Seek help from others.
B.Rely on whoever can help.
C.Though painful, we can get something out of them.
D.Here’s how you can create a new chapter in your life.
E.What you can do in this kind of situation is draw a mental line.
F.No matter what, negative feelings are always going to be helpless.
G.I would say this one thing to you, giving up is easy, but continuing with the pain is hard but worth it.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My writing career started when I was in elementary school, where there were various writing contests throughout the years. I’m assuming it was in the hopes of trying to get our young, little minds excited about the possibilities that writing could offer us in our lives. Then I’d come home, show my parents and my dad would say, “You did such a great job, honey! Wow, you must be a great writer!” I was probably a better writer in 5th grade than my average counterparts (同等的人) at the time. I even went to the special advanced classes for the “gifted” kids for a few years.
And as I grew older, I remembered those experiences and what my dad was always telling me, and it just stuck with me, and became part of my subconscious (潜意识) — that I was a great writer. I always did well in all my classes because I had this confidence. I didn’t like all subjects particularly. but I got good grades. I was pretty self-assured in my abilities as a student. Then, fast forward to my freshman year of high school. By this time, I had started to even out (相等) with the rest of my peers, in terms of intelligence. And then, it happened, the day that my hopes were destroyed.
It was all because of the new English teacher: Ms. Moon. The year started out like any other. I expected to do well; I worked hard and knew that my efforts would pay off, like it always had in the past. But something started happening. I started getting Cs on my papers! I don’t think I’d ever seen that letter, except in the spelling of my first name. And, not only was I getting low grades in her class, but also her comments made me astonished. My papers were full of red marks, and I was being asked to re-do many assignments to even get a passing grade.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【参考答案】
One day, Ms. Moon handed my paper to me and whispered, “It’s still not good enough.” I stared at Ms. Moon in disbelief, her words crashing over me like a tidal wave. My confidence began to crumble, and it was as if all those years of praise and encouragement from my dad had been a lie. Unable to confront Ms. Moon, I slumped back to my seat. My mind was clouded with self-doubt. With the approaching final exam, I knew I had to pull myself together and stick to it persistently, for the sake of proving to myself that I could face this challenge.
My efforts paid off and very soon it was time for my final exam result. When I nervously waited for my result, I became lost in thought. Finally, Ms. Moon handed me my exam paper, and her expression was unreadable. What amazed me was that the paper was filled with praise. Ms. Moon smiled and said, “That was beyond my expectations. Well done.” A mixture of confusion and relief flooded over me. From that day on, I changed my attitude toward her. Although she may have been the “worst” English teacher in my eyes, I now know that her tough love was exactly what I needed.

Additionally, there were lectures on Chinese history and culture, as well as an exhibition of cultural relics.
The activity received positive feedback from students. They found it engaging and informative, as it allowed them to gain a deeper appreciation of China’s rich heritage. Many students expressed their interest in continuing to explore Chinese history and culture in the future.

【参考范文】

C
D

Many of us know that eating late 56 (be) bad. A new study says that eating late at night could make us sick. Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital say that eating a few hours before bed means that there is a higher risk of obesity (肥胖症). They looked into why eating late increases the risk of 57 (put) on weight. They found that eating late increases 58 (hungry), so we eat more. When we eat 59 (early), we are less hungry, so we eat less food. Later eaters also eat unhealthier food, especially fast food. 60 (consequence), later eaters move around less before sleeping, 61 means they don’t burn off calories.
The researchers looked at the eating habits of five women and eleven men between the 62 (age) of 25 and 59. All of the participants were 63 good health. They ate breakfast regularly and exercised a little. For two weeks before each test, the participants did not drink coffee or alcohol. They also did not smoke or take any medicine. They all had to keep 64 sleep diary so researchers knew their sleeping and waking times. Researcher Professor Kelly C. Allison said, “I think the study tells us that it probably really is 65 (benefit) to stop eating late at night.”

第二节(满分25分)
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One day, Ms. Moon handed my paper to me and whispered, “It’s still not good enough.”_______________

C
D

第二节(满分25分)
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One day, Ms. Moon handed my paper to me and whispered, “It’s still not good enough.”_______________
