The activities planned for this day include displays, speeches and workshops. We would be delighted if you could join us in our awareness-raising mission. We believe that events such as these are critical to ensuring a better future for our planet. We hope that you will be able to join us. I immediately took him to the vet. Nervous and scared, I waited anxiously as the vet examined him. After what felt like an eternity, the vet returned with a solemn expression. “I’m sorry,” the vet said, “but Little Bit’s health has deteriorated beyond recovery.” My heart sank as tears welled up in my eyes. I held Little Bit close to me, feeling guilty for not being there for him when he needed me the most. The vet allowed me some time alone with him, and I whispered apologies and gentle words, hoping he’d understand how much he meant to me. That night, Little Bit peacefully drifted away in my arms, leaving a void in my heart like never before. Little Bit’s death made me realize how much he meant to me. In those quiet moments after his passing, I reflected on the joy and companionship he had given me. The small cat who once filled my days with laughter and adventure was no longer physically present, but his memory brought a renewed appreciation for the time we spent together. I regretted the time I neglected him, and promised myself to cherish the present and the relationships that truly mattered. Little Bit’s memory now lives on as a reminder to value love and companionship, teaching me to make time for those who care and to never take their presence for granted. He may have been small, but the impact he had on my life was immeasurable. A.Dangers of global warming. B.New rules about electric cars. C.Ways to protect the environment. 【答案】18.C 19.A 20.C 【原文】 We stand at a great moment in our history. We have for a long time known of the dangers of global warming, but sadly little action has been taken to respond to it. However, we have listened to our children campaigning all across the world, and we have chosen to listen to them, and make hard choices. We have set a date of 2025 for petrol-based cars to stop production. In addition, our governments will bring in a vehicle exchange system. It will allow drivers to trade in their car for an electric model at no additional cost. We see this as an urgent action that needs to be taken. We cannot put profits ahead of the health of our planet. For too long, the industries that pollute the most have dragged their heels. Well no more! In addition, we will also be banning all plastic bottles by 2030. Unless producers can find a way to make plastic break down, we would suggest a return to glass bottles. They can easily be reused and recycled with no harm to the environment. Plastic has invaded our food supply, and we need to remove it urgently before it destroys our planet’s ecosystem. A Wildlife Shelter Carer Every year, hundreds of thousands of native animals are injured, orphaned or become sick, often because of interaction with people or pets. Our wildlife shelters in Australia are unsupported. Privately owned in Australia, our wildlife shelters have rescued sick, injured and orphaned native Australian wildlife for many years and loved them back to health to be returned to the natural environment. Since we receive no recurrent (周期性的) funding from governments, the shelters rely on the contribution of volunteers and donations from the public to keep it running. The Location Shelter 1: Located in a small rural community in the east part of the Riverina on a working farm. The Riverina is an agricultural region of south-western New South Wales, Australia, just near the Victorian border. The Riverina is distinguished from other Australian regions by the combination of flat plains, warm to hot climate and an ample supply of water for irrigation. This is a farm style homestay, living and working hands on with the project hosts on a daily basis.     Shelter 2: Located on a beautiful mountain top near the coastal city of Gladstone, Queensland. Marine activities are the lifeblood of the city sitting at the central part of the Great Barrier Reef. This project has separate fully equipped volunteer quarters set in the natural landscape. Apart from animals in care, there are often wild kangaroos, birds and other animals seen on the property. Our Volunteers Volunteers play a key role in wildlife rescue and care. Not only will you be learning new skills and helping animals in need, you will also make new friends from around the world and will create an enriching experience for yourself. 21.What is the task of wildlife shelters in Australia? A.To rescue native animals in trouble. B.To serve as wildlife research centers. C.To provide a vacation spot for tourists. D.To offer a place for people to keep their pets. 22.How are the wildlife shelters in Australia funded? A.Through government financial funds. B.By charging visitors for entry. C.By cooperating with businesses. D.By relying on charity donations. 23.What type of environment is Shelter 2 located in? A.A coastal city. B.A mountain top. C.An agricultural farm. 故选A项。 22. 根据第三段中“Since we receive no recurrent (周期性的) funding from governments, the shelters rely on the contribution of volunteers and donations from the public to keep it running. 根据第五段中“Shelter 2:  Located on a beautiful mountain top near the coastal city of Gladstone, Queensland. B Recently, as I watched my son Nathan playing basketball game, I felt sorry for myself and for him. He was playing in the other team’s home gym filled with their supporters, and Nathan’s team was falling behind for three quarters of the game. As for me, I was dismissed from my job earlier in the day. Watching the difficult situation that my son was experiencing, I remembered that during the drive home earlier in the day, I kept telling myself that “just like last time I experienced this, I’ll find work again in a short time — I’m confident in my experience and abilities and believe in myself.” But then, self-doubt hit me. The basketball game entered the fourth quarter with Nathan’s team still falling behind. I saw the determination on his, as well as his teammates’ faces as they fought back to not only tie with the other team, but then go ahead by three points. Then, the scores were tied again. With a tie game and seconds on the clock, Nathan found himself with the ball, and with skill and confidence, he moved forward to make the basket with a defender hanging all over him. The other player was called for a foul. As Nathan stood at the foul line preparing for a shot that would put his team up by three points, I saw the focus and determination on his face; there was no room for self-doubt. He made it, helping his team win the game. Later he told me he didn’t know how he did it because he had lost all feelings in his right arm from being thrown to the floor earlier the game. As my heart burst with pride, I realized something. I had taught my son — perseverance in the face of difficulties, and he had just taught me the same lesson. That brief moment of self-doubt and feeling sorry for myself was swept away by the actions of my son on the basketball court. He’ll play in the finals, but it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses. On that day, we both won. 24.Why did the author feel sorry? A.He used to be too busy to accompany Nathan. B.Nathan’s team was too weak to compete in the game. C.He had made a big mistake in his work. D.He and Nathan were both going through a hard time. 25.What can be inferred about the author? A.He had lost his job more than once. B.He always lacked self-confidence. C.He didn’t know his abilities well. D.He disliked the job he had been doing. 26.How was the last quarter of the game? A.Nathan’s teammates lost hope. B.The other team played casually. C.The game was very fierce at last. D.It ended up with a big score difference. 27.What was the author’s win on that day? A.He found his true passion. B.He overcame his self-doubt. C.He learnt something new from his son. D.He finally won his son’s respect. 根据文章第一段“Recently, as I watched my son Nathan playing basketball game, I felt sorry for myself and for him. He was playing in the other team’s home gym filled with their supporters, and Nathan’s team was falling behind for three quarters of the game. As for me, I was dismissed from my job earlier in the day.(最近,在我观看我儿子内森打篮球比赛时,我为我和他感到难过。 根据文章第二段“I remembered that during the drive home earlier in the day, I kept telling myself that “just like last time I experienced this, I’ll find work again in a short time — I’m confident in my experience and abilities and believe in myself.”(我记得那天早些时候开车回家的时候,我一直告诉自己“就像上次我经历的那样,我很快就会找到工作的,我对自己的经验和能力充满信心,并相信自己”)”可知,作者相信自己会和上次一样,很快就会找到工作的。 故选A项。 26. 根据文章第三段“I saw the determination on his, as well as his teammates’ faces as they fought back to not only tie with the other team, but then go ahead by three points. Then, the scores were tied again.(我看到了他的决心,也看到了他的队友们脸上的决心,他们奋力反击,不仅与对方打成平手,而且领先三分。 根据文章最后一段“As my heart burst with pride, I realized something. I had taught my son — perseverance in the face of difficulties, and he had just taught me the same lesson. That brief moment of self-doubt and feeling sorry for myself was swept away by the actions of my son on the basketball court.(当我心中充满骄傲时,我意识到一些事情。 C The current urgency to cut plastics use is accelerating our search for new materials, especially for containers that can hold liquids. But glass is an existing material that could be the star of a net-zero carbon economy. Worldwide, glass manufacturing (制造) produces at least 86 million tons of carbon dioxide every year. But most of this can be eliminated (去除) when glass is recycled, and existing technologies could turn glass manufacturing into a mostly carbon-free process. What needs to happen is for countries to stop sending glass to landfill sites, and to make glass recycling compulsory. Glass is made by heating limestone, sand and soda ash to 1,500℃. This heat comes from natural gas, and it accounts for between 75% and 85% of the carbon emissions (排放) from glass manufacturing. The remaining emissions are a by-product of the chemical reactions between the raw materials. But some of these materials can be replaced with crushed recycled glass, known as cullet. When cullet is melted no CO2 is released. And furnaces (熔炉) don’t have to burn so fiercely to melt glass as to melt the raw materials, offering further carbon savings. Carbon can also be saved by decarbonizing the process of melting the chemical mix during manufacturing. If the electricity source were fully decarbonized, it would mean that the entire process of glass-making would effectively be carbon-free. Some questions will need further research. Governments need to know the cost of boosting systems for glass collection and recycling, so that they can allocate (分配) appropriate resources. Furthermore, glass is heavier than plastic, so using it as a replacement will probably add to transport costs and emissions. More countries need to pass laws to reduce waste and eventually stop sending glass to landfill. That will automatically create greater motivation for glass to be recycled. Glass is an essential material. The answers are there, and they are relatively simple. They need to be put into practice — and we can all raise a glass to that. 28.What is the current situation of glass recycling and making? A.Glass is recycled in most countries. B.Glass recycling won’t produce CO2. C.Glass ends up in landfill in many countries. D.Glass making produces most of the global CO2 emission. 29.What contributes to lowering CO2 emission in glass manufacturing? A.Burning furnaces to a high temperature. B.Making glass from limestone, sand and soda. C.Removing CO2 from production by melting cullet. D.Decarbonizing the melting process using raw materials. 30.What does the word “decarbonizing” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Reducing the amount of carbon released. B.Simplifying the process of glass making. C.Removing carbon from the chemical mix. D.Generating electricity using recycled glass. 31.What is the text mainly about? A.How to Build a Zero-carbon World B.Glass, a Hidden Jewel in a Carbon-free Future C.Glass Manufacturing, a Decarbonizing Process D.How to Prevent People Sending Glass to Landfill 【答案】28.C 29.C 30.A 31.B 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 由第一段中“What needs to happen is for countries to stop sending glass to landfill sites, and to make glass recycling compulsory. (各国需要做的是停止将玻璃送往垃圾填埋场,并强制玻璃回收)”和倒数第二段中“More countries need to pass laws to reduce waste and eventually stop sending glass to landfill. 由第二段中“When cullet is melted no CO2 is released. 由第二段中“When cullet is melted no CO2 is released. (当碎玻璃熔化时,不会释放二氧化碳)”和“Carbon can also be saved by decarbonizing the process of melting the chemical mix during manufacturing. If the electricity source were fully decarbonized, it would mean that the entire process of glass-making would effectively be carbon-free. 故选A项。 31. 由第一段中“But glass is an existing material that could be the star of a net-zero carbon economy. (但玻璃是一种现有的材料,可能成为净零碳经济的明星)”,第二段中“When cullet is melted no CO2 is released. D The practice of students endlessly copying letters and sentences from a blackboard is a thing of the past. With the coming of new technologies like computers and smartphones, writing by hand has become something of a nostalgic (怀旧的) skill. However, while today’s educators are using more and more technology in their teaching, many believe basic handwriting skills are still necessary for students to be successful — both in school and in life. Karen Mitchell, professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, says it’s important to continue teaching handwriting and help children acquire the skill of writing by hand. Mitchell and her colleagues conducted a study that looked at the ability of students to complete various writing tasks — both on a computer and by hand. The study, published in 2009, found that when writing with a pen and paper, participants wrote longer essays and more complete sentences and had a faster word production rate. In a more recent study, Mitchell looked at what role spelling plays in a student’s writing skills and found that how well children spell is tied to how well they can write. “Spelling makes some of the thinking parts of the brain active, which helps us access our vocabulary, word meaning and concepts. It is allowing our written language to connect with ideas.” Mitchell said. Spelling helps students translate ideas into words in their mind first and then to transcribe (转换) “those words in the mind into written symbols on paper or keyboard and screen,” the study said. Seeing the words in the “mind’s eye” helps children not only to turn their ideas into words, says Mitchell, but also to spot spelling mistakes when they write the words down and to correct them over time. “In our computer age, some people believe that we don’t have to teach spelling because we have spell checks,” she said. “But until a child has a functional spelling ability of about a fifth grade level, they won’t have the knowledge to choose the correct spelling among the options given by the computer.” 32.What makes writing by hand a thing of the past? A.The lack of blackboards in classrooms. B.The popular use of smartphones. C.The use of new technologies in teaching. D.The lack of practice in handwriting. 33.Mitchell’s study published in 2009 indicated ________. A.that students prefer to write with a pen and paper. The wild is calling, and writing offers a powerful tool for re-connection. Through keen observation and warm language, we can develop a deeper connection with our environment. 36 The first step is raising a keen awareness of your surroundings. By sharpening your senses, you’ll capture the essence of a plant or place in vivid detail. Imagine describing a forest after a summer rain: What can you see? Maybe sunlight passing through the leaves? 37 Sensory details create an experience that brings both you and the reader into the heart of the forest. Limiting your focus to one single being. This limitation creates a deeper connection between you and your fellow creature, whether a sunflower pushing through a crack (裂缝) in the sidewalk, or a strange-looking mushroom. 38 By exploring this nature-being, you gain a richer understanding and appreciation for its existence. 39 It can also be about experiencing the natural world from a different angle. Try writing a letter to your wild friend: Choose a plant, animal, or natural element. Imagine how the world might appear through the eyes and ears of them. They also have stories to tell. Nature writing is a journey of continuous discovery. 40 Keep writing, keep exploring your local environment, and keep rewilding yourself. Share your experiences and remember, even the smallest backyard can be a place for wonder and inspiration. A.Or do you smell the natural smell of wet soil in the air? B.Nature writing isn’t just about humans observing nature. C.How does a plant sense the surroundings compared to you? D.Let’s explore some tips to set off on your wild writing journey. I got close to the noise, and noticed a tail under a piece of wood. Under the wood was a small black and white cat. I picked him up and realized he must be freezing to death. I hurried home with the cat covered in my jacket. My new friend received his name Little Bit soon because he was nearly weightless when I held him in my hands. He stood about five inches tall. Little Bit’s small size had a great advantage-befit perfectly in the pocket of my jacket, which made taking him everywhere very easy. He would ride with me on my bike, play in the dirt with me, and catch frog. Little Bit was the best friend I had ever had. Whenever I was home, he wouldn’t leave my side. He always wanted to play with me. Anytime I had meals, he would sit there patiently until I gave him my leftovers. When I fell asleep at night, he would always curl up (蜷缩) around my head to make sure that I was warm. Unluckily, as I grew up, my teenage life weakened my relationship with Little Bit. I lived at such a fast pace that I stopped making time for him. My free time was spent with my other friends instead. I would come in the house on my phone and not pay attention to him at all. I often forgot to feed him. let alone walking him or playing with him. His meows became an anger to me sometimes, but it wasn’t his fault because he wanted his best friend back. One day, there seemed to be something wrong with Little Bit’s body. He lay there and looked at me, weak and tired. I immediately took him to the vet (兽医). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Little Bit’s death made me realize how much he meant to me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I immediately took him to the vet. 词汇激活 行为类 ①等待:waited /awaited/anticipated /expected ②检查:examined /inspected/checked /investigated ③反思:reflected /considered/pondered /thought 情绪类 ①焦虑的:anxious /worried/nervous /apprehensive ②难过的:solemn /sad/gloomy /sorrowful 【点睛】[高分句型1] I held Little Bit close to me, feeling guilty for not being there for him when he needed me the most. D.A busy urban area. C The current urgency to cut plastics use is accelerating our search for new materials, especially for containers that can hold liquids. A.How to Build a Zero-carbon World B.Glass, a Hidden Jewel in a Carbon-free Future C.Glass Manufacturing, a Decarbonizing Process D.How to Prevent People Sending Glass to Landfill D The practice of students endlessly copying letters and sentences from a blackboard is a thing of the past. B.that good essays are made up of long sentences. C.the importance of writing speed and spelling ability. D.the difference between writing by hand and on a computer. 34.Which of the following best shows the role of spelling? A.Spelling improves one’s memory of words. B.Spelling ability is closely related to writing ability. C.Spelling benefits the translation from words into ideas. D.Spelling slows down finding exact words to express ideas. 35.What conclusion could be drawn from the passage? A.Handwriting still has a place in today’s classrooms. B.Spell checks can take the place of spelling teaching. C.Computers can help people with the choice of words. D.Functional spelling ability develops fast in the fifth grade. How to Reconnect with Nature Through Writing Whether you’re in the wilderness or a city park, being present with other beings can be deeply rewarding. E.Use all your senses to capture the unique details of one creature. F.The following are some techniques to unlock your creative potential. G.The practice of it can awaken a new appreciation for the world around you. It’s most people’s terrible dream: surviving a plane crash only to be left in a rainforest with no way of contacting the outside world. But this was 41 for four Colombian children, and in an unbelievable 42 of knowledge and willpower, they survived. The children, aged 13, nine and four, as well as an 11-month-old baby, were 43 with their mother. They were going to visit their father in the capital city. Their plane experienced engine problems and 44 on May 1, 2023. For two weeks, bad weather prevented the army from 45 the crash site. They found three adults there later, including the children’s mother, who were already 46 . How did these children survive conditions that would be 47 for most adults? They are members of the Huitoto Indigenous (土著) group and were 48 in the rainforest. As such, they have a complete 49 of the rainforest. They know which fruits are safe to eat and which plants should be 50 . They survived on a fruit called juan soco and seeds, and fed the baby water mixed with flour that they found on the plane. While the 51 got on with the business of surviving, the Colombian army worked with Indigenous volunteers to find them. And after 40 days of 52 , the army found the children and took them to recover at a military hospital in the city of Bogota. Many around the world have taken this survival story to be a 53 , while others point out that it is the result of an ancient and thorough knowledge of the 54 that has been passed down through Indigenous communities over the generations. D.A busy urban area. C The current urgency to cut plastics use is accelerating our search for new materials, especially for containers that can hold liquids. A.How to Build a Zero-carbon World B.Glass, a Hidden Jewel in a Carbon-free Future C.Glass Manufacturing, a Decarbonizing Process D.How to Prevent People Sending Glass to Landfill D The practice of students endlessly copying letters and sentences from a blackboard is a thing of the past. Indigenous groups have a deep respect for the forest and, 55 , their close connection to the rainforest helped the children to survive. 41.A.hope B.responsibility C.punishment D.reality 42.A.story B.report C.place D.celebration 43.A.playing B.flying C.exploring D.resting 44.A.went missing B.sped up C.took off D.circled around 45.A.recording B.choosing C.finding D.rebuilding 46.A.dead B.late C.tired D.asleep 47.A.normal B.favorable C.unreasonable D.unimaginable 48.A.raised B.caught C.protected D.lost 49.A.control B.map C.knowledge D.view 50.A.studied B.avoided C.planted D.sold 51.A.villagers B.media C.government D.children 52.A.waiting B.searching C.recovery D.practice 53.A.joke B.secret C.wonder D.challenge 54.A.world B.forest C.village D.tradition 55.A.surprisingly B.possibly C.undoubtedly D.unavoidably 1.
