After that, Lily and Tom wanted to do something for the puppy. They looked around, hoping to find the owner, but no one was in sight. Concerned about the puppy’s condition, they decided it was best to seek help. They took a picture of the puppy and posted it on a local community forum, describing where and how they found it, hoping to reach the owner. Meanwhile, they stayed with the puppy to ensure it was safe and comfortable.
Unable to find the puppy’s owner, Lily and Tom decided to take it to the nearest animal shelter. They carefully carried the puppy, reassuring it with gentle pats along the way. At the shelter, the staff praised their compassion and promised to take good care of the puppy. Feeling relieved and happy, Lily and Tom left their contact information at the shelter, in case the owner was found or if they could help further. Walking back home, they felt fulfilled, knowing they had made a difference in the puppy’s life.

When Sam Fisher took his two young sons and their cousin on a hike in the Badlands of North Dakota, he was probably expecting a day of sightseeing and light exercise. What he could not have expected, however, was the group coming across the remains of a young Tyrannosaurus rex (霸王龙) that had lived millions of years ago.
Fisher and the boys were surely excited by their discovery, but they didn’t know what to do with the fossil (化石). Fisher sent a photo to his former classmate, Dr. Lyson, an expert in the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Then, Dr. Lyson arrived on the scene with a skilled team to dig up the fossil. Together, they unearthed the remains of the teenage Tyrannosaurus rex.
Their find was considered as an “incredible discovery” by the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. It is unusual to find complete Tyrannosaurus rex fossils, and even more unusual to find the remains of a young one, so Dr. Lyson was excited when he realized what they had unearthed. The fossil, called “Teen Rex”, is between 12 and 14 years old at the time of death. Even though it was still growing, the dinosaur already weighed 3,500 pounds and was 25 feet long, though these impressive measurements still put it at about half the size of a fully developed Tyrannosaurus rex.
“These boys have made an incredible dinosaur discovery that advances science and deepens our understanding of the natural world,” says Dr. Lyson. “I’m excited for museum guests to dig into the “Teen Rex Discovery” experience, which I think will inspire the imagination and wonder, not only in our community, but around the world!”
The fossil will be on display as part of the temporary (临时的) Discovering Teen Rex exhibition, which will open at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science next month. In addition to the exhibition, the museum will also be screening a new 40-minute documentary T.REX.
24.How did Sam Fisher feel when they found the fossil?
A.Satisfied. B.Awkward. C.Amazed. D.Alarmed.
25.Why did Fisher send a photo of the fossil to Dr. Lyson?
A.To ask for help. B.To sell the fossil.
C.To find a museum. D.To show off the fossil.
26.What did Dr. Lyson think of the discovery?
A.He believed it was just another common find.
B.He considered it of great value to science.
C.He thought it would attract little interest.
D.He was uncertain about its significance.
27.What might the author continue to talk about?
A.A summary of the exhibition. B.Details about the documentary.
C.Professional advice for museum guests. D.Information on how to become an expert.

People from Britain and Ireland first came to live in Australia in 1788. They brought different dialects (方言) of English with them. These different kinds of English began to mix and change. The newcomers soon began to speak with their own typical accent (口音) and vocabulary. More and more people came to Australia during the Gold Rush in the 19th and 20th centuries. Some came from Britain and Ireland; others came from non-English speaking countries. Australian English continued to grow and change.
Australian English has also been influenced by American English. During the Second World War, there were many American soldiers staying in Australia. American television shows and music have been popular in Australia since the 1950s.
Australians use many words that other English speakers do not use. The famous Australian greeting, for example, is G’day! A native forest is called the bush and central Australia is called the outback. Many words were brought to Australia from Britain and Ireland. For example, mate means “friend”, and it is still used in Britain. Some of these words have changed in meaning. Some words have come from Australian original languages, many of which are names for animals, plants and places, like dingo and kangaroo.
Australian spelling comes from British spelling. In words like organise and realise, -ise is the expected and taught spelling method. In words like colour, favourite, -our is the normal, but nouns such as the Labor Party and Victor Harbor are spelled with -or. Program, on the other hand, is more common than programme.
There are also differences in the meaning of words Australians use in different parts of the country. For example, football means “rugby” in New South Wales and Queensland, but “Australian rules football” in everywhere else in Australia. In New South Wales, a swimming costume is called a cossie or swimmers, while in Queensland it is called togs and bathers in Victoria.
28.When did American English begin to influence Australian English?
A.During World War Ⅱ. B.In 1788.
C.In the 1950s. D.During the Gold Rush.
29.According to the passage, which of the following is spoken only by Australians?
A.Mate. B.Program. C.Rugby. D.Outback.
30.What can we know about Australian English?
A.Most words were created by Australian English.
B.There are different expressions about sports in Australia.
C.Australian spelling is the same as British spelling.
D.The same word might have different meanings in different parts of Australia.
31.What might be the best title for the text?
A.The History of Australia B.The Birth of Australian English
C.The Development of Australian English D.Different Kinds of English Across the World

When Mammola and Ficetola went to an ecology conference in 2021, they met a scientist with an unusual complaint. Jennifer Anderson, an expert in aquatic fungi(水生真菌), said that the subject of her research was not available in emoji(表情符号) form. “If you are doing the important work of trying to save whales, you can use pictures or images to help you communicate this,” said Anderson. “If you are working to save the aquatic fungi, you first must let people know that they exist, and then describe in words what they look like.”
Struck by their conversation with Anderson and alarmed at how unusual species were ignored, the Italian scientists set out to find out how well species were represented in the emoji library. The answer wasn’t satisfactory at all: animals were well represented by available emojis but plants, fungi and microorganisms(微生物) were not. “Our findings confirm a typical prejudice in biodiversity research and a feature of human psychology,” said Mammola. “We usually feel more caring and sympathetic towards living things that are genetically closer to us.”
“A good representation of species on social media can arouse interest in unfamiliar organisms, greatly help publicize the message that biodiversity is much more than just cats, dogs, lions and pandas, and indirectly help conservation efforts,” said Mammola. “There are an impressive number of organisms, and all of them play a fundamental role on our planet, even the ones we know less about.”
Some scientists have taken steps to describe their research on their phone keyboards with images instead of words. However, according to Mammola, the number of animal species represented rose from 45 in 2015 to 92 in 2022, yet the number of plants, fungi and microorganisms represented barely increased.
Anderson said she wanted emojis for organisms like aquatic fungi as reflections of increased public awareness and indicators of their ecological value. “Having an emoji indicates that an organism is valued or important enough to be part of daily conversation,” she said.
32.What did Anderson complain about?
A.Lack of available emojis for aquatic fungi.
B.People’s disinterest in studying aquatic fungi.
C.People’s unwillingness to save aquatic fungi.
D.Difficulty in describing aquatic fungi in words.
33.Why are animal species better represented than other species?
A.They are more common species. B.They matter more to biodiversity.
C.They encourage human sympathy. D.They help remove human prejudice.
34.What is the benefit of a good representation of species on social media?
A.Facilitating communication between scientists.
B.Making biodiversity research more satisfactory.
C.Deepening people’s understanding of biodiversity.
D.Helping people grasp complex concepts of science.
35.What is Mammola’s attitude toward the progress of emoji biodiversity?
A.Unclear. B.Unsatisfied. C.Doubtful. D.Hopeful.

If sports are something that interests you, you’d like to be good at them. Consistent effort and a positive mindset can make a big difference in your progress. To achieve this, practice is the key. 36
Join a sports team. If you want to become a sports superstar, joining a team is a good way to start. If your skills are low, joining an amateur league will sharpen up your skills. Sports teams are everywhere, and most of them are free to join. 37 Recreation centers are often hosts to sports teams as well.
Get a great coach. Great coaches come in all shapes and sizes. Certain coaching personalities will suit you better than others. It’s necessary to find a good coach for you. 38 In the early stages, a coach’s enthusiasm is often more helpful than scientific know-how.
Set your sights wide. If you want to be truly great at sports, it’s not enough to focus on a couple of sports alone. It’s important to set your sights wide with your exercise. Don’t specialize in skills unless you’ re already a great athlete. 39 Whether you play one sport or multiple sports, training your entire body will improve your sports performance.
40 It’s a common mistake to jump into the advanced stuff quickly. This isn’t an effective way to spend training time. You need a solid foundation before you move on to bigger things. If you’ re new to a sport, take as much time as you need to get the basic movements down properly. It’ll make advanced skills a lot easier to get in the long run.
A.Pay attention to basics first.
B.You can go for school team tryouts.
C.Try your best to get advanced skills.
D.Find ways to train every part of your body.
E.Here are some ways to help you to become good at sports.
F.You should avoid joining any team until you’re a skilled player.
G.The best method is to have one who really wants to see you succeed.

Days later, when the results were announced (宣布), Lily and Tom were overjoyed to find out that their efforts had paid off, and they had both achieved excellent grades. To celebrate, they decided to take a well- deserved break and go on a trip to the nearby amusement park during the weekend.

They rode roller coasters, watched live performances and were lost in cotton candy, laughing and chatting the whole time. The sun shone brightly in autumn, and their spirits were high. As the day drew to a close, they began to make their way to the exit, their hearts full of joy and memories.
Suddenly, just as they were walking on the way home, they heard a weak sound from somewhere. Following the sound, they found a small, injured puppy (小狗) lying on the roadside. Without any thought, they rushed over to help.

【答案】24.C 25.A 26.B 27.B
【语篇解读】
这是一篇记叙文,文章主要讲述美国的Sam Fisher等人发现罕见的未成年霸王龙化石。

25.细节理解题。根据第二段中“but they didn’t know what to do with the fossil (化石). Fisher sent a photo to his former classmate, Dr. Lyson, an expert in the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.(但他们不知道该如何处理化石。Fisher给他以前的同学、丹佛自然与科学博物馆的专家Lyson博士寄了一张照片)”可知,Fisher给Lyson博士发照片是为了求助他该如何处理化石,故选A。
26.推理判断题。根据第四段中Lyson博士说的话“These boys have made an incredible dinosaur discovery that advances science and deepens our understanding of the natural world(这些男孩发现了令人难以置信的恐龙,这推动了科学的发展,加深了我们对自然世界的理解)”可知,Lyson博士认为这个发现极具科学价值,故选B。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“In addition to the exhibition, the museum will also be screening a new 40-minute documentary T.REX.(除了展览,博物馆还将放映一部40分钟的新纪录片《霸王龙》)”可知,文章接下来可能会继续谈论该纪录片的细节,故选B。

C.The Development of Australian English D.Different Kinds of English Across the World
【答案】28.A 29.D 30.D 31.C
【语篇解读】
这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了澳大利亚英语的形成、发展及其特点。
28.细节理解题。根据文章第二段第一、二句“Australian English has also been influenced by American English. During the Second World War, there were many American soldiers staying in Australia.(澳大利亚英语也受到了美国英语的影响。在第二次世界大战期间,有许多美国士兵留在澳大利亚。)”可知,美国英语在二战期间开始影响澳大利亚英语,选项A符合题意。故选A项。
29.细节理解题。根据文章第三段前几句的描述“Australians use many words that other English speakers do not use...and central Australia is called the outback.(澳大利亚人使用许多其他英语使用者不使用的词汇……澳大利亚中部被称为“the outback”。)”可知,选项D的单词“Outbreak”只有澳大利亚人使用。故选D项。
30.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段第一句“There are also differences in the meaning of words Australians use in different parts of the country. (澳大利亚人在该国不同地区使用的单词的意思也有所不同。)”可知,在澳大利亚的不同地区,同一个单词可能有不同的意思,选项D符合题意。故选D项。
31.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段第一句“People from Britain and Ireland first came to live in Australia in 1788. They brought different dialects(方言)of English with them.(来自英国和爱尔兰的人们于1788年首次来到澳大利亚居住。他们带来了不同的英语方言。)”以及后文对澳大利亚英语的形成、发展及其特点的详细介绍可知,文章主要介绍了澳大利亚英语的形成与发展,所以选项C“澳大利亚英语的发展”作为标题最为合适。故选C项。

C.Doubtful. D.Hopeful.
【答案】32.A 33.C 34.C 35.B
【语篇解读】
本文是是一篇说明文。文章通过Mammola和Ficetola在会议上与Anderson的交谈引出话题,详细阐述了他们对表情符号库中物种代表性的研究及发现,包括动物、植物、真菌和微生物在表情符号中的呈现情况,说明了良好的物种表情符号呈现对宣传生物多样性的意义。
32.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Jennifer Anderson, an expert in aquatic fungi(水生真菌), said that the subject of her research was not available in emoji(表情符号) form. (Jennifer Anderson,一位水生真菌专家,说她的研究对象没有可用的表情符号形式。)”可知,Anderson不满的是她的研究对象缺乏表情符号,故选A项。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段中“We usually feel more caring and sympathetic towards living things that are genetically closer to us. (我们通常对与我们在基因上更接近的生物更有爱心和同情心。)”可知,之所以动物表情符号更多是因为人们通常对与其在基因上更接近的生物感到更关心和同情,故选C项。
34.细节理解题。根据第三段中“ ‘A good representation of species on social media can arouse interest in unfamiliar organisms, greatly help publicize the message that biodiversity is much more than just cats, dogs, lions and pandas, and indirectly help conservation efforts,’ said Mammola. (Mammola说:“在社交媒体上展示物种可以引起人们对不熟悉生物的兴趣,极大地有助于宣传生物多样性不仅仅是猫、狗、狮子和熊猫的信息,并间接有助于保护工作。)”可知,有更多的表情符号能够有助于让更多人了解生物多样性,故选C。
35.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“However, according to Mammola, the number of animal species represented rose from 45 in 2015 to 92 in 2022, yet the number of plants, fungi and microorganisms represented barely increased. (然而,根据Mammola的数据,代表的动物物种数量从2015年的45种增加到2022年的92种,但代表的植物、真菌和微生物的数量几乎没有增加。)”可知,根据Mammola的说法,尽管动物物种的表情符号数量有所增长,但植物、真菌和微生物的表情符号数量几乎没有增加,所以Mammola对于表情符号多样性的进展现状是不满意的,故选B项。

Lily and Tom, both 15 years old, were new in high school. Faced with new curriculum and the subjects that seemed to be more difficult to learn, they had been studying tirelessly in order to keep up. Their desks were piled high with textbooks and notes. With determination and hard work. they managed to squeeze every last drop of knowledge into their brains. The upcoming exams for the first time in this new term still made them feel nervous though.
Finally, the day of the exams arrived and passed, making them feel both relaxed and tired. As they exchanged nervous looks after handing in their last papers, they knew they had given it their all.
Days later, when the results were announced (宣布), Lily and Tom were overjoyed to find out that their efforts had paid off, and they had both achieved excellent grades. To celebrate, they decided to take a well- deserved break and go on a trip to the nearby amusement park during the weekend.
The park was filled with excitement that day, and Lily and Tom wasted no time diving into the relaxing activities.
