B How I Turned to Be Optimistic     I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt’s house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then. I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.     I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange but magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving never to come back was hardly in my head then.     The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried, and things became even more complex for me. Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other. I was often sad, and saw no end to “the hard times.”     My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with Immigration officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.     From my experiences I have learned one important rule: Almost all common troubles eventually go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy. 24. How did the author get to know America? A. From her relatives. B. From her mother. C. From books and pictures. D. From radio programs. 25. When leaving for America, the author felt ________. A. confused B. excited C. worried D. sad 26. For the first two years in New York, the author ________. A. often lost her way B. did not think about her future C. studied in three different schools D. got on well with her stepfather 27. The author believes that ________. A. her future will be free from troubles B. it is difficult to learn to become patient C. there are more good things than bad things D. good things will happen if one keeps trying C In recent years, it seems that we are slowly coming to understand that animals like elephants, monkeys and pigs have not just brains, but complicated inner and social lives thanks to scientific advances in our understanding of animal minds. Yet that awareness hasn’t made itself felt to a much greater degree in our closest relationship with animals: at the dinner table. With Personalities on the Plate, Barbara King asks us to think hard about our meat eating and how we might reduce it. King does not criticize. Instead, she takes us chapter by chapter on a cook’s tour of animals we humans eat, from insects to pigs and dogs, while exploring the latest scientific discoveries about their intelligence and feelings that we humans often wrongly claim uniquely for ourselves. Built on a mix of firsthand experience and close engagement with the work of scientists, farmers and chefs, Personalities on the Plate has successfully built a case for them as beings that deserve more than a trip down our stomachs. With humor and tales of animals acting as individuals expressing their emotions, Personalities on the Plate takes us on an unforgettable journey through the world of animals we eat. “This thoughtful book is not about whether we ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ eat meat. Barbara King looks at the range of values and consequences surrounding farming and feasting, and at who we are considering eating,” says Carl Safina, author of Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel. “Her book gives me a richer understanding. Her method and passion are effective. I ended the book agreeing that I can — and should — help these creatures and our environment by choosing to eat fewer of them or none at all.” 28. What does the author suggest in the first paragraph? A. Lots of people plan to stop eating meat. B. Meat consumption should be increased. C. Scientists should do more to protect animals. D. Our diet is hardly influenced by our knowledge. 29. What can we know about Personalities on the Plate? A. It openly opposes meat eating. B. It is written by scientists and chefs. C. It includes humorous and vivid stories. D. It denies animals’ intelligence and feelings. 30. What does Carl Safina say about King’s book? A. Its method is too subjective. B. Its conclusion is convincing. C. The book is tightly organized. D. The evidences are contradictory. 31. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text? A. To review a book. B. To recommend an author. C. To promote a diet. D. To advocate animals’ rights. D Among my friends, one topic seems to dominate our conversations: bones. It makes sense, given that 20 percent of American women over 50 have osteoporosis (骨质疏松) and that more than half have bone loss. For men, the figures are lower: 4 percent and a third. Worldwide, one out of three women over 50 and one out of five older men will develop a fracture (骨折). Another reason for the endless argument about bone problems is mass confusion over how to strengthen your bones best and whether diet really makes a difference. Diet research is always messy, and study results on nutrition and bone health haven’t been consistent. But gradually some clarity is emerging. As we draw up resolutions for what to eat, it’s useful to look at new data on vitamin D. Calcium is the key element for building bones, and vitamin D helps to absorb calcium from the food we eat, so doctors often recommend D supplements (补充剂) to make up for age-related bone loss. But a recent study found that taking D supplements for five years did not reduce the rate of fractures in seniors. That result built on earlier findings, led by the same team, that these supplements do not improve bone density (密度). “Food and sun exposure likely provide enough vitamin D for healthy adults,” says Meryl LeBoff, who led the study. What does help maintain strong bones for all of us? The easy answer is food high in calcium, such as milk and tofu. “Getting it from food is best,” LeBoff says, “because there are so many other nutrients (营养物质), and you have more continuous absorption than from D supplements.” The other key element of bone health involves calories out rather than calories in. Weight-bearing exercise stimulates bone formation throughout life. So while focusing on better nutritional choices, add more exercise to your daily menu. 32. What do the statistics in paragraph 1 emphasize? A. The seriousness of bone problems. B. The concern about senior citizens. C. The confusion about strengthening bones. D. The importance of having a balanced diet. 33. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2 imply? A. Diet research is no longer a challenge. B. We’ve made resolutions to study diets. C. Findings on bone health prove to be similar. D. We begin to agree on ways to keep bones healthy. 34. What can be inferred from the recent study? A. People can absorb vitamin D in food easily. B. The findings go against LeBoff’s earlier ones. C. D supplements play a minor role than expected. D. Fractures are linked with weight-bearing exercise. 35. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Recipes for better bones B. Your bones cry! C. The magic of D supplements D. Vitamin D wins! 第2节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 It’s the start of the new school year, and most college students now know what’s expected for their classes. But one rule troubles some students — the laptop rule, which limits or stops the use of laptops for note-taking in class. How students take notes, whether typing on a laptop or writing by hand, is a topic of debate among students. 36 , and they prefer to use their laptops. However, I personally support the laptop rule. 37 . Psychologists Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer have found that taking notes on laptops is less effective than taking notes by hand. Compared to typing on a keyboard, writing by hand increases our memory, and makes for better understanding in our brains and better understanding when our brains read our handwritten notes again for test preparation. Plus, laptops are also distracting (令人分心的). 38 . In many classes, I’ve seen students using laptops to go on social media, play games, or read news. The back-and-forth between taking notes and looking at Twitter on bright computer screens nearby steals my attention away from the lecture, which is not fair to me. There are some situations where laptops are allowed. Students with learning or physical disabilities should have the choice to use their laptops to take notes. It might be easier for them to take notes on a keyboard. 39 , they should not be given the same choice. During class time, students should focus on their teacher and the lesson. 40 , it’s best to take notes with pen and paper. A. Since students who use laptops take more notes B. If they want to learn something from a class or lecture C. However, since most students don’t have such problems D. Using a laptop influences others, not just the person using it E. Some students say they have the right to choose how to take notes F. It is a popular belief that taking notes on a laptop is quick and easy G. If learning is students’ goal, using a laptop during class is a terrible idea 第3部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每题1分,满分15分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 “Believe in yourself, and there will come a day when others will have no choice but to believe with you.” —— Cynthia Kersey Enur Pakashtica has been a(n) 41 to the young generation as he has developed 42 over the years to push his limits. When it came to choosing the right candidate to participate in such competitions, I was always the first choice. Naturally, I was once again selected to represent my school in the approaching contest this year. Upon hearing the fact that I was chosen again, my classmates and friends acknowledged that I would undoubtedly emerge as the champion again. Consequently, I became conceited (自负的). I was so proud that I neglected the importance of practicing for the contest. A week before the contest, my teacher Ms. Sara asked, “Selena, would you like to stand in front of the class to rehearse (排练) for the contest?” She had tutored me in the past two competitions and knew how important practice was. “Just imagine you are on the stage in the presence of the audience,” she added. “I’m sorry, Ms. Sara,” I replied. “I have a bit of a sore (疼痛的) throat.” This was usually the lie I would tell whenever my teacher requested me to practice in front of the class. I always found excuses to avoid doing it because I believed that I was the best and therefore the practice was unnecessary. On one occasion, I even told Mrs. Sara not to worry too much as I was well prepared for the contest. In fact, I did everything but practice my script (手稿). I only managed to glance briefly through the story the day before the contest. As the best storyteller among the students of the local secondary schools, I was too vain to practice and expected everything to be fine. The contest was being held in the local community hall. On the day of the contest, the hall was packed. My school teachers and principal (校长) were there along with many of my classmates and schoolmates. I was the eighth contestant out of twenty in total. Those who spoke before me did extremely well. On seeing their fascinating and outstanding performance, I began to lose confidence in myself. My palms sweated heavily and I started to feel nervous. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Soon, it was my turn to talk.__________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally, results were announced after the contest._________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ 高二英语试题 第 1 页 共 13 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 太原市常青藤中学平鲁区李林中学联考 高 二 英 语 评 分 细 则 卷面分数:150分 答题时间: 120分钟 第1部分 听力(共两节;每题1.5分,满分30分) 1~5 CAABC 6~10 BBACB 11~15 ABAAB 16~20 CCBAC 第2部分 阅读(共两节;每题2.5分,满分50分) A: CBD B: CBCD C: DCBA D: ADCA EGDCB 第3部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每题1分,满分15分) 41-45 ADBAC 46-50 CAADB 51-55 ABCAD 第二节 (共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 56. conducted 57. which 58. them 59. deeper 60. have expanded 61. gradually 62. interviewees 63.accounting 64. to have 65. a 第4部分 写作(共两节,满分40分) 第一节 (满分15分) My Weekend In order to release the pressure resulting from our study, I went to Xingxing Farm to pick some oranges together with my classmates last weekend. Hardly had we arrived at the farm when we saw many oranges hanging from the branches. A farmer told us how to pick oranges. Then each of us carried a basket and a pair of scissors, quickly climbed up the ladder and started to pick oranges. Bathed in sunshine, we sang and laughed while picking oranges. After we paid for the oranges we picked, we prepared to go back to school. What a wonderful time we had! Not only did it give us relaxation, but also it got us closer to nature. 第二节 (满分25分) Soon, it was my turn to talk. Facing the crowd, I found myself suffering from stage fright. I spoke in an expressionless voice and even stuttered a few times as I forgot parts of the story. My legs trembled and so did my voice. On seeing my terrible performance, the judges shook their heads. The supporters from my school looked at me in great disappointment. I had never been so embarrassed in my life. In the end I walked off the stage, my eyes filled with tears. Finally, results were announced after the contest. I did not win any prizes-not even a consolation one. It was not surprising at all. I felt ashamed when I faced my classmates and of course, Ms. Sara. I regretted underestimating my opponents and overestimating myself. My vanity had cost me the championship. I now regretted being so arrogant. I had learned my lesson well and finally understood the meaning of the two sayings, “Pride goes before a fall.” and “Practice makes perfect!” 附:听力材料 Text 1 W:Mike, look at your handwriting! It is nothing if not awful! And you should concentrate on your expressions, please. M:Sorry, Miss Green. I will improve my work. Did I make any grammar mistakes? W:Only a few, and your story is fantastic . Text 2 W:Someone must have stolen fruit from my garden. Nearly all my peaches were gone. Have you seen anyone around my garden? M:No, but I saw your son selling peaches outside the cinema this afternoon. And your neighbor Charles bought some and said they taste good . Text 3 W:Hi, Jim. What is your plan on Saturday? M:Well, I have a project to finish, but I guess I can handle it by Friday night. W:Well, what about going camping by the lake? M:You know, camping is the last thing I’d choose for a weekend. I’d rather be a couch potato. Text 4 M:Hi, I would like to make an appointment to see Doctor Lee tomorrow. W:Sure, we have slots available at 3:00 PM or 4:30 PM. Which one would you prefer? Text 5 M:Where is the beer you promised to buy this morning? W:My car is not allowed on the roads today, so I had my Yoga class instead today. Text 6 W:Excuse me, can you help me find the nearest train station? M:Of course! Where are you trying to go? W:I want to go to the city center. M:Alright. You can take the green line train from the station two blocks down and it will take you directly to the city center. The station is called Downtown Station. W:Thank you so much! Is it within walking distance? M:Yes, it’s about a 10-minute walk from here. Just head straight down this street, then turn left when you see the City Bank, and you’ll see it on your right. W:Got it. Thanks again for your help! M:No problem. Have a safe trip! Text 7 W:Is this Joe Brian? M:Yes, it is. W:Mr. Brian, this is the police calling from the Centre Hospital. Your son was badly hurt in a car accident this morning, and is having an operation now. M:Oh! Oh no! My god! What should I do? W:Mr. Brian, listen to me. You need to come to the hospital now and bring your ID and cash. M:Oh, yes, right, cash. But I don’t have cash with me now. W:Then take your credit card. Just come to the hospital right now! Your son needs you! M:Oh, right, my son! Wait, I just got married last week. I don’t even have a son. W:Sorry, wrong number. By the way, Mr. Brian, I almost forgot to ask, what’s your bank account number and your online banking password? Just in case I need to, uh, help you out in the future. Text 8 W:Hey, have you watched the new movie “The Lost Treasure”? M:No, I haven’t. Is it any good? W:Oh, you have to watch it! It’s an adventure-packed film with incredible visual effects. What attracts me most is its engaging plot. The storyline is captivating! M:Really? What’s it about? W:It follows a group of treasure hunters who embark on a dangerous journey to find a long-lost treasure hidden in a remote island. Along the way, they encounter thrilling obstacles and unexpected twists. M:That sounds exciting! Who are the main actors? W:Well, the lead role is played by Tom Johnson, who is known for his amazing action sequences. He does a phenomenal job in this movie. The supporting cast is also impressive, with talented actors like Emily Stone and Michael Wilson. M:I’m a fan of Tom Johnson’s work. He always delivers great performances. I’ll definitely check out this movie. Text 9 W:Wow, that lunch was quite disappointing, don’t you think? M:I agree, I was expecting so much more from that sushi place. W:The rolls lacked flavor and creativity, the rice was so dry and I couldn’t even taste the freshness of the fish. It felt like they had prepared it hours ago. M:And the miso soup? It was so watered down. I barely tasted anything. W:Yeah, I guess it was definitely lacking that rich, savory flavor that I usually love in miso soup. M:True! I had high hopes for their tofu sushi, but it was tasteless and had a weird taste. W:Honestly, I think we should have gone to our usual sushi place. Their quality and taste are far superior . M:I completely agree. Let’s not waste our time and money on this place again. Lesson learned. W:Well, at least we had each other’s company. Let’s try to make up for this lunch with some good dessert . M:Absolutely, that’s a great idea. We can’t let this disappointing lunch ruin our day.
