(23-24九年级上·江苏常州·期末)Do you want to improve your English pronunciation? Today we will talk about the things you can do to sound more like a native (本地的) speaker.
Record and listen to yourself
Choose a story from our website. Listen to the recording while looking at the words. Make a note of any word you think may be hard to say, and then read them aloud. Then record yourself when reading it slowly and clearly. Listen to your recording. Speaking more slowly than you normally do and speaking loudly with confidence can make it easier for others to understand you.
Take selfie (自拍) videos
You can also learn how to improve your pronunciation by taking selfie videos. Record a few sentences. Watch the video and ask yourself: Is my voice loud enough? Did I say all of the words clearly?
Listen to an online dictionary
Our final piece of advice is to listen to recordings from an online dictionary. Try using a dictionary app, which gives you the correct pronunciation in an audio file (音频文件).
Now you have got our advice. What do you tell your friends about improving pronunciation?

(22-23九年级上·江苏·期末)Have you ever been to Singapore? For many Chinese tourists, this small island in Southeast Asia is a wonderful place to take a holiday. On the one hand, more than three quarters of the population are Chinese, so you can simply speak Putonghua a lot of time. On the other hand, Singapore is an English-speaking country, so it’s also a good place to practise your English!
Have you ever tried Chinese food outside of China? Maybe you fear that you won’t be able to find anything to eat in a foreign country. In Singapore, however, you’ll find a lot of food from China; you won’t have any problems finding rice, noodles or dumplings. However, if you have great courage, Singapore is an excellent place to try new food, such as Laksa, a popular spicy (麻辣的) noodle soup. Whether you like Indian food, Western food, or Japanese food, you’ll find them in Singapore!
Most large cities have zoos, but have you ever been to a zoo at night? When you are in Singapore, don’t miss going to the Night Safari. It might seem strange to go to a zoo when it’s dark. But if you’ve ever been to a zoo during the daytime, you might understand why this zoo is so special. A lot of animals only wake up at night, so this is the best time, to watch them. If you go to see lions, tigers, or foxes during the daytime, they’ll probably be asleep! At the Night Safari, you can watch these animals in a more natural environment than a normal zoo.
One great thing about Singapore is that the temperature is almost the same all year round. This is because the island is so close to the equator (赤道) . So you can choose to go whenever you like—spring, summer, autumn, or winter! And, of course, it’s not too far from China!

(23-24九年级上·江苏常州·期末)Most people have probably seen a movie about an AI (人工智能) tool or a robot (机器人) that has become so smart that it can control the world. At present, there are no such AI tools or robots. But scientists have been working to improve AI models. Some recent models can create realistic photos from a short written description. Others can recreate anyone’s voice based on a voice recording just a few seconds long.
The AI tool that has got the most attention recently is ChatGPT, created by the company OpenAI. When asked a question, ChatGPT answers quickly in perfect sentences. It can make up stories and games, write articles, program computers, and much more. ChatGPT appears to be very intelligent (智能的). But in fact, ChatGPT is simply guessing—based on its training information—which word is most likely to come next, over and over again.
In March, OpenAI developed a more powerful model, called GPT-4. GPT-4 can create and explain jokes, and pass tests that are difficult for humans. The rapid progress of recent AI models worries some people. In late March, many computer experts (专家) wrote a letter calling for a six-month pause (暂停) for any work on AI tools.
The letter says AI companies race to create smart AI tools that no one can “understand, predict, or...control”. The group behind the letter wants governments to develop laws to make sure AI tools are safe.
ChatGPT has caused so much excitement that many companies are likely to keep developing smart AI tools. But the letter has sent a strong warning that many people, including leaders will be thinking about carefully.

(23-24九年级上·江苏苏州·期末)TV was one of the greatest inventions in the 20th century. Nowadays, nearly every household has at least one TV set.
Television came into being (出现) based on the inventions and discoveries of many scientists On April 7, 1927, the first public television programme was broadcast in the USA.The signals (信号) were received on a very small screen. It was only about the size of a business card. The pictures were reddish (微红色的) and not clear.
In the 1930s, bigger screens appeared with black-and-white pictures. However, a snowy picture was the best many TV viewers (观众) could hope for. Often, they could only get one station, and only when the weather conditions were good.
When World War Ⅱ (1939—1945) began, the development of TV stopped. There were a very small number of TV sets in the hands of the public. By 1945, there were fewer than 7, 000 working TV sets in the USA.A TV set cost about half the price of a car at that time.
The time after World War Ⅱ is considered one of the golden periods of television. Families saved money during the war years, and wanted to buy a lot of things after the war. TV sets were soon put onto the ‘must-have’ list. 1950—1959 was an exciting period for television. Colour television and remote controls came out during this time. By 1955, the cost of TV sets came down a lot. Instead of being equal to half the price of a car, they were now just equal to the cost of a new set of tyres (轮胎) . This marked the beginning of the booming age of TV.

(23-24九年级上·江苏连云港·期末)If you want to keep your houseplants better, you should water them properly. Here are a few steps you can take to help make watering easier.
When you plant something, leave enough room so that you can pour in some water. Importantly, never let your plants sit in water unless they like water. Some people are likely to water every plant too much or just forget them when houseplants are no longer so exciting or new. Some people don’t recognize the differences between their plants. For example, watering a sunflower isn’t the same as a rose. So search for some information to make sure what kind your plants are.
You may know top watering. Here’s a different way—bottom watering. Bottom watering is good for many plants whose leaves don’t like to get wet. When you water houseplants from the bottom up, their roots get stronger because they’re always growing directly down toward the moisture (潮湿). Use a long-necked watering can. This will allow you to offer water without wetting the leaves. When you do it correctly, this method is suitable for such kind of houseplants.
Do we need to water plants every day? It depends. Remember to water your plants at a fixed time and keep on. Mark the time on your calendar to remind yourself to check if your plant needs watering. And you’d better water in the morning. Watering at night means moisture, which may lead to illness.
1.What does the underlined word “recognize” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Know. B.Advise. C.Prevent. D.Support.
2.How does the writer explain the steps of watering houseplants?
A.By listing numbers. B.By telling old stories.
C.By offering advice. D.By expressing feelings.
3.The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.the watering tools B.the time of watering plants
C.the watering places D.the results of watering plants
4.How is the passage organized?
A. B.
C. D.
(23-24九年级上·江苏宿迁·期末)The question whether there is life on Mars (火星) has made the public think a lot for more than a century. The closest look showed Mars to be a dusty, cold world, covered by air too thin to breathe. A British spaceship and Europe’s Mars spaceship plan to land on Mars or enter orbit (轨道) around it. One of the NASA’s (美国宇航局) spaceships is expected to land on January 3, the other is going to land on the opposite side of Mars on January 24.
Since 1960, over twenty spaceships sent to Mars have failed. Most have been lost on flying up or landing because those are the most difficult times of any flights.
Scientists wanted to find out whether there was water in Mars. In October, a team of scientists reported that Mars had been a dry wasteland. But weeks later, a second team reported differently that they had found some marks showed clearly that they were made by the rivers. Such marks told us that Mars was a warmer place billions of years ago—just as life first appeared here on Earth. Scientists at once raise a question: if what they said is true, what happened on Mars? Then what about the earth?

(23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)When you think of the sea, you may not think of Xinjiang or Inner Mongolia (内蒙古). But recently, the “seafood” produced in these places has become popular, especially after Japan put nuclear-contaminated water (核污染水) into the sea, reported China Daily.
In Xinjiang, about 6, 000 tons of rainbow trout (虹鳟鱼) will be produced this year. Rainbow trout belongs to the same family as salmon (鲑鱼), which is a kind of well-known seafood. It tastes like salmon, too.
Why do farmers there choose to grow fish? The weather in some parts of Xinjiang is seldom hot, and the rivers are fed by meltwater from the Tianshan Mountains. Water deeper than 6 meters always stays at 10℃. As the meltwater is very clean and cold, it’s a “comfortable” home for fish, a worker at a fish company in Xinjiang, told China Daily.
To make sure the river stays clean, the company uses machines to clean fish waste in the water. They also use net cages that are good for the environment. The nets are about 51 meters wide and lie 25 meters deep in the river.
Meanwhile, in Inner Mongolia, whiteleg shrimps (南美白对虾) grows well. Saline soil (盐碱土) covers a large part of the desert (荒漠) where few plants are able to grow. Farmers used to put water from the Yellow River onto the farmland to wash away the salt. This was a waste of salty water.
Scientists then came up with a new idea. They decided to make “seawater” with the salty water by adding in some other components (成分). Whiteleg shrimps can live well in this kind of water. They taste no different from the same kind of shrimp that grows in the sea.
1.The company cleans the water with machines and uses net cages to grow fish to avoid water ________.

B.To show rivers are important to a country.
C.To show another “seafood” grown without using the sea.
D.To compare (比较) them with the shrimps that grow in the sea.
3.What can you infer from the story?
A.Xinjiang has grown many kinds of seafood.
B.China won’t worry about not having seafood.
C.The Yellow River is fit for growing whiteleg shrimps now.
D.The nuclear-contaminated water won’t change anything in China.
4.Which shows the best structure of the passage?(1=Paragraph 1, 2=Paragraph 2, . . . )

(23-24九年级上·江苏南通·期末)More and more people now are fond of birds. They would like to go outdoors to see which winged animals they could watch or photograph. Scientists at Guangxi University in China noticed a great increase in the number of people, photographers particularly, visiting Nonggang Nature Reserve. “These photographers were setting up their cameras close to the bird nests,” researcher Xiaocai Tan said. “This gave them the chance to take great, and even award-winning photos.” However, researchers were worried closeness to humans would make birds nervous and less likely to care for their babies.
Tan and her team spent a year doing fieldwork, checking 277 bird nests that included 42 kinds. They were studying the effect that photographers had on birds’ habits, particularly how often parents fed their babies and the effect it had on predators (捕食者). Researchers found the nests that were photographed had a predation rate of 13.3% while nests unphotographed had a much higher rate of 62.9%. “The presence of the photographers increased the survival rate of the baby birds,” Tan explained. The presence of photographers seemed to frighten the predators away. It’s great fun that their presence had little effect on the feeding rates in those nests. Parents fed their babies the same whether they were photographed.
However, photographers shouldn’t take the finding as a warrant to disturb (干扰) nests. The National Audubon Society says, “Honoring birds’space must come before getting that perfect photo.” Among many tips, Audubon suggests using little flashlight.“If your appearance causes a bird to fly or run away or change its behavior, you’re too close.”
Tan adds, “Although this finding suggests that photography has a positive (积极的) effect on birds, it doesn’t mean that photographers can visit nests — it needs more studies on other areas of nesting, before the influence of bird photography can be fully understood.”
1.How may the researchers feel about the finding?
A.Doubtful. B.Sad. C.Surprised. D.Nervous.
2.The underlined word “warrant” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.reason B.habit C.disadvantage D.direction
3.Which of the following would Tan agree with?

B.There should be studies on what causes stress on birds.
C.More bird photography activities should be carried out.
D.Photographers can’t visit bird nests as often as they like.
4.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text?
A.The method of bird photography.
B.The influence of bird photography.
C.The distance between photographers and nests.
D.The difference between photographers and predators.

(23-24九年级上·江苏南通·期末)Educators worry about students turning to ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that can produce clear answers to difficult questions, to help them complete assignments. Many teachers don’t allow their students to use it in writing. But I am telling my students that they are free to use ChatGPT in their writing assignments.
To keep competitive throughout their lives, students need to learn how to use ChatGPT to produce valuable works. They need to learn to write well-organized articles with a mix of AI-generated text and traditional writing. Also professionals (专业人士) need to learn how to improve human creativity with AI.
Many students will be unable to refuse the temptation (诱惑) to seek AI help with their writing. And how would an educational institution enforce a ChatGPT ban (禁令)? While there are tools aimed at detecting text produced by AI, future forms of AI will get better at matching human writing—including copying the style of a particular person who is using it. It’s clear that AI writing tools will always be one step ahead of the tools to detect AI-generated text in the arms races.
Writing a good article from the beginning needs good logic. Writing is a skill worthy of a lot of respect, one which few of us ever master. But most students don’t seek to become professional writers. Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to communicate, explain, request and persuade.
When I was a middle and high school student in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I was told that professional success required good writing skills and the ability to perform long division (长除法) by hand. By the time I entered the professional workforce in the late 1980s, technology advances had left those skills outdated. Education culture can be very slow to change, as evidenced by the fact that many schools today still force children to learn long division—a task they will never have to perform anywhere outside school. With AI writing, educators should stay ahead of the development of technology instead of falling behind for tens of years.
1.Why does the author allow his students to use ChatGPT in writing?
A.To compete well in their future life.
B.To produce good writing as a writer.
C.To be creative professionals in future.
D.To improve the standards of traditional writing.
2.What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.Banning AI effectively is impractical. B.Using ChatGPT may fail in the arms race.
C.Copying the style of human is AI’s aim. D.Refusing AI needs support from students.
3.What does writing mean for most students in the author’s opinion?
A.It is a kind of skill easy to master. B.It is a must to become professional writers.
C.It is a course to focus on thinking. D.It is a way to prepare for their future careers.
4.What does the author mean by mentioning long division by hand?
A.Students refuse to learn useless skills.
B.Education culture changes so quickly.
C.Educators should go ahead of technology.
D.AI writing helps students succeed professionally.
(23-24九年级上·江苏苏州·期末)①More and more people believe that technologies are great for learning. Today, such teaching tools as iPads are used in a lot of courses, including language, history and science.
②Many teachers are supporters of using iPads in language learning. They say that students now have much more time for discussion in the classroom. Instead of spending valuable class time listening to texts or watching teaching videos, students can do this on their own and come to class prepared for discussion.
③The teachers also say that iPads allow students to learn at their own pace. Some students might listen to a conversation only once and understand it, so they can save time for doing other things. Other students, however, might need to listen to the same conversations again and again to understand it. Using iPads is especially helpful to students who are learning a language at different paces.
④The students who are using the new tool in some courses are also happy. They believe that using iPads is a more enjoyable way to learn (such as listening to stories and watching movies) . The class has become much more interesting and creative.
⑤There are other advantages for students. By using iPads, they can pay more attention to the material and learn more. Teaching notes are stored in their iPads and are easy to find. Some students spend more time studying now. “I can listen to my language material or watch teaching videos on the bus, instead of having to wait until I get home,” a student explained.
⑥Many adults complain that technologies such as iPads are doing harm to students. They worry that students might use iPads to download teaching notes and use them to cheat during exams. Some believe that iPads may separate students from each other. If a student spends more time watching videos on an iPad, he will have fewer opportunities to have face-to-face communication with others.
⑦However, technologies are already a part of most students’ day-to-day lives. As for cheating, teachers can ask students to hand in their iPads when they take exams. Education needs to make changes with the times as technology is playing an important part. We should look forward to a wonderful future when iPads and other technologies can add a lot to the classroom.
1.What does the expression “at their own pace” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.According to their own timetable. B.Without their teachers’ help.
C.Because of their wonderful goals. D.Against their parents’ hope.
2.According to the passage, which is one of the reasons, why some adults feel worried about technologies used in education?
A.They do harm to students eyes. B.They make students less interested in learning.
C.They influence the relationship between students. D.They cause the students to be more stressed.
3.The writer probably agrees that ________.
A.teachers can take control of students’ learning B.exam results depend a lot on new technology
C.technology in education has a bright future D.note-taking is as helpful as video-watching
4.What’s the best title of this passage?
A.New technology changes learning B.The wonderful future of iPads
C.A more enjoyable way to learn D.How to use iPads properly
5.What is the correct structure of the passage?
A.①/②③/④⑤⑥/⑦ B.①/②③/④⑤/⑥⑦

Plastic is everywhere. From the food we eat to the air we breathe, tiny particles (颗粒) of plastic—also known as “micro plastics”—can be found in almost anything.
Plastic does not only cause real havoc on our oceans, but also hurts us humans. Scientists have questioned whether eating micro plastics can negatively affect human health, especially if there are pieces of plastic you’re using in daily life, like the plastic cutting board.
A recent study checked the amount of micro plastics found in the carrots cut on different types of plastic cutting boards. At the end of the study, scientists found these plastic cutting boards led to 1,114 micro plastic particles on the carrots each time the board was used. This means a plastic cutting board could make 15 milligrams of micro plastics per cut, and around 50 grams a year—it’s the weight of 10 plastic credit cards.
________
Evidence suggests that micro plastics can be found in our blood and our bodies, and can be potentially (潜在地) harmful to our health. But Dr. LeBeau, the leader of the study, points out that the study does prove the generating (产生) of micro plastic particles, but does not prove the cutting boards can have the negative effects to human health. He said, “In fact, we’re already consuming (消耗) so many micro plastics throughout our day (like in our food or water) , that the micro plastics from cutting boards won’t make a huge difference. So we don’t need to worry about it too much.”
Plus, Dr. Lebeau also talks about the pros and cons (利弊) of using other types of cutting boards. Using a wood cutting board may seem cleaner and safer, but these products may not be completely disinfected (消毒) and it may increase the risk of food-borne illness. “If you would like to avoid both altogether, I recommend replacing your plastic and wood cutting boards with ones that are made from bamboo.” He said.
1.The underlined word “havoc” in Paragraph 2 means _________.
A.治理 B.灾难 C.经济 D.宁静
2.How does the writer talk about the result of the study in Paragraph 3?
A.By making a chart. B.By listing numbers.
C.By asking a question. D.By taking a survey.
3.Which of the following sentences can be put in _________?
A.With so many micro plastics in our food, should we be worried?
B.To solve the problems with micro plastics, what else can we do?
C.So many micro plastics are found on carrots, what about other vegetables?
D.Since micro plastics are harmful, how can we reduce them in our daily life?
4.According to Dr. Lebeau’s words, what can we infer?
A.Micro plastics are not harmful to humans indeed.
B.Micro plastics will bring more problems in our life.
C.Bamboo cutting boards will be used instead of plastic ones.
D.Safety is the key point people think about while using cutting boards.

①A new study has shown how the colour of a bowl can influence the taste of the food it holds.
②Although it is hard to say what a picky eater (挑食的人) is like, the type may include people who have a limited diet, who have strong likes or dislikes for certain food, who require food to be prepared in a special way, who aren’t willing to accept new food, or who show signs of all these features.
③According to this new study, food was put into two groups in red, blue, or white bowls. While the colour made no difference in taste for non-picky eaters, the picky eaters reported changes in their taste senses based on the colour of the bowl being used. Snacks in red and blue bowls were thought to have more salt than those in white bowls, while snacks in red bowls were less pleasant than those in the other bowls.
④ “This knowledge can be useful for those who want to try more kinds of foods,” says Lorenzo Stafford, a psychologist from the University of Portsmouth in the UK. “For example, if you want to encourage a picky eater to try some bitter (苦的) vegetables, you can try to put them on a pink plate or in a yellow bowl, because this can give him or her a sweet feeling.”
⑤At first it may seem strange that a bowl colour can influence the taste of food, but the research before has shown how light and music can influence eating habits. All of our senses are connected, including taste.
⑥ “This new study can help in treating food neophobia—the unwillingness to try new food,” the team of the study says, and further studies will be required to find out more relationships between colours and foods.
⑦ “Through further studies, maybe we can decide ways to help actively influence a person’s diet, and as a result, their health in mind and body,” says Stafford.
1.According to the passage, who is a picky eater?
• Tom especially likes hamburgers.
• Lucy is able to accept new food happily.
• Sigmund usually has three meals a day.
• Mary doesn’t care how vegetables are cooked.
A.Tom. B.Lucy. C.Mary. D.Sigmund.
2.According to the new study, which of the following is true?
A.All the colours made no difference in taste to picky eaters.
B.Snacks in red bowls seem to be saltier than those in blue bowls.
C.Snacks in red bowls seem less pleasant than those in white bowls.
D.Putting sweet vegetables on a pink plate may give a bitter feeling.
3.According to the passage, why can a bowl colour influence the taste of food?
A.It doesn’t tell us.
B.Because people like colourful bowls.
C.Because light and music can influence eating habits.
D.Because all of our senses are connected, including taste.
4.What does the underlined word neophobia mean?
A.美食综合症 B.消化不良 C.新奇恐惧症 D.暴饮暴食
5.Which paragraphs talk about the meaning of this new study?
A.④⑤⑥⑦ B.⑤⑥⑦ C.⑥⑦ D.⑦
(23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)Halfway between the United States and Japan is Alaska’s Adak Island. It is one of the remote Aleutian islands. It is a place known for its natural beauty. The coast is home to rich wildlife. Purple flowers can be seen along the roads through grassy hills. Hot springs cover the landscape. Snow-topped mountains and the Great Sitkin volcano rise in the distance.
Adak Island is home to the native Aleut people. It is not easy to get to. It requires a four-hour plane trip from Anchorage. People visit Adak to watch birds, climb mountains, or examine one of the many abandoned military bases (废弃的军事基地). People also come to hunt caribou (北美驯鹿). The animal was introduced to the area in the 1950s as a possible emergency food source.
At Horseshoe Bay, brave people can climb down a rope to the coast below and nearby hot springs. At Clam Lagoon you can watch sea otters, harbor seals and sea lions playing in the water and warming themselves on the rocks. For bird watchers, the area is wonderful. And Adak’s strange “national forest” is also worth a visit. This is a small collection of evergreen trees in a nearly treeless landscape.
Adak locals learn to live with very limited supplies. The only food store is in the old daycare center. It is open just a few hours on some evenings. The old high school and middle school now hold the city hall, a healthcare center and the post office. A drink store that was once a gas station sells a case of beer for $50. In most states, a case of beer is under $20.
Food choices are limited. Restaurants and stores are often closed. One eatery in Adak does not open often, but when it does, it serves a large pizza for $28. Reporter Nicole Evatt wrote that it was surprisingly tasty considering how far the tomato sauce and cheese had to travel.
1.What can NOT people do when they visit Adak Island?
A.Enjoying the natural beauty. B.Watching birds and some sea animals.
C.Examining old military bases. D.Choosing all kinds of food.
2.Why is the strange “national forest” worth visiting?
A.Many species of birds are living in it. B.Trees are rarely seen on Adak Island.
C.It is near hot springs and easy to get to. D.Many wild animals are living in it.
3.What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A.A lack of supplies leads to price rises. B.Adak Island was easy to get to long ago.
C.The island is covered with green trees. D.Food stores open long hours every day.
4.Which can best replace the underlined word in the last paragraph?
A.Post office. B.School. C.Restaurant. D.City hall.

1.Which is right about Mars?
A.It’s cold without dust. B.There is no water or air.
C.It’s warm with some thin air. D.It’s a dusty, cold world almost without air.
2.Two NASA’s spaceships ________.
A.will land on the different sides of Mars B.will land on the same day
C.will enter orbit around Mars D.will land with a man
3.A team of scientists reported that there might be ________ in Mars.
A.nothing but air B.nothing
C.water billions of years ago D.thick air and lakes
4.What are scientists worried about when they raise the question?

A.Photographers shouldn’t take photos of bird nests.
B.There should be studies on what causes stress on birds.
C.More bird photography activities should be carried out.
D.Photographers can’t visit bird nests as often as they like.
4.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text?
A.The method of bird photography.

【答案】1.A 2.A 3.D 4.C

3.细节理解题。根据第四段“Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to communicate, explain, request and persuade.”可知,在作者看来,写作对大多数学生来说意味着为他们未来的职业生涯做准备的一种方式,故选D。
4.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Education culture can be very slow to change...educators should stay ahead of the development of technology instead of falling behind for tens of years.”可知,作者提到长除法意思是教育工作者应该走在科技的前面,故选C。
