People also help return the animals to the countryside. In Moscow, there are 35,000 stray dogs(流浪狗). They live in parks, old houses, markets and train stations. Many people give them food and water. Heal their own wounds
Animals can heal (治愈) their wounds(伤口)by themselves. In Sumatra, Indonisia, there was a male orangutan(红毛猩猩) named Rakus. He got hurt in a fight with another male orangutan and there was a wound on his face. Three days later, scientists saw Rakus picking leaves from a vine(藤). These leaves could help with pain(疼痛) and heal wounds. Rakus chewed(咀嚼) the leaves and put the juice on his wound. This was the first time scientists saw a wild animal using plants to heal itself.
Talk to their friends
Just like people, animals can talk to their friends too. For example, killer whales(虎鲸) have their own languages. They can make sounds to communicate, such as whistles(哨声)and pulsed (脉冲的) calls. When their friends are nearby, they may use whistles to say hello.Pulsed calls are short, repeated sounds. They might help group members recognize(辨别)each other and work together. A baby killer whale can learn similar pulsed calls from its mother. They also hit their heads or snap their mouths to show they are angry.
Use tools
People often use tools in their daily lives. But in the animal world, only a few animals can use tools to get their food, and the sea otter(海獭) is one of them. Sea otters like to eat abalone(鲍鱼)and sea urchins (海胆).Both are easy to break open. However,in many areas, these foods are becoming less. Sea otters have to eat more crabs and mussels(贻贝).All these have hard shells (壳).To open these shells without hurting their teeth, sea otters can use tools like shells and rocks.
Remember their food spots
In nature, it is an important skill for animals to hide (藏) food and find it again. Mountain chickadees (山雀) are good at this. These birds can hide lots of seeds in different places like tree bark(树皮).When winter comes, they can easily find their hidden food again.According to scientists, chickadees can remember tens of thousands of spots (地点) where they hide food during the winter.
