Of all my travels, this is the one that I shall always remember. We traveled for three months, and spent 12 days in Tibet, where we were deeply impressed by many sights, such as the Potala Palace and the Himalayas. Give fishermen a string, and they can use it to catch fish, but give it to young men from Huotong Town and they can make a lion fly. Indeed, many children growing up in the town in Ningde City, Fujian Province, might be under the impression that lions can actually fly, as they come into contact with the popular string lion dance at an early age.
From a distance, bamboo lions with colorful long hair could be seen high above a small wooden stage in Xingxian Village in mid-March, each seeming to have a life of their own. Closer up, it was possible to see that they were linked by what looked like countless long strings that were being operated by a team of young people behind the stage.
The young people made every effort during the show, sometimes using their weight to pull the strings, and other times jumping up and down to control the strings to make the lions do various fancy actions, ranging from rolling, jumping, to running one after another, and fighting for a ball.
Applause broke out from the crowd as the lions came to rest, and a group of young boys stepped out from behind the curtain. “This is my happiest moment, getting recognition from the audience,” says Chen Jihong, 24, who leads the team of around 30 members aged between 13 and 24.
Like other children in the region, Chen was first fascinated by the dance as a child when his mother took him to watch a lantern show on the day of longtaitou, or Dragon Head Raising Day. He remembers how the crowd suddenly became excited and cheered for the string lions to come out. Curiously, he pushed through the crowd to get a closer view as the lifelike lions came into sight.
Huang Zhenqiao, a senior inheritor of the tradition that was named a national intangible (非物质的) cultural heritage in 2006, says that the string lion dance dates back about 1,300 years and is one of the most attractive shows at the local lantern show on that day.
24. Why does the writer mention “fishermen” at the beginning?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To add something fun.
C. To compare two skills. D. To explain the background.
25. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. What the lions looked like. B. How the lion dance was performed.
C. What influence the dance had. D. How strong the young people were.
26. Which of the following has most probably inspired Chen Jihong to be a lion dancer?
A. His childhood memories. B. The team influence.
C. His family background. D. The school education.
27. What does the underlined word “inheritor” probably mean in the last paragraph?
A. A person who has a gift for mathematics.
B. A person who is to pass down a tradition.
C. A person who prefers to get rid of old things.
D. A person who studies the history of a country.
【答案】24 A 25. B 26. A 27. B

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了福建省宁德市胡通镇的提线狮子舞这一非物质文化遗产,讲述了其表演形式、历史渊源以及年轻舞者的热爱与传承。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Give fishermen a string, and they can use it to catch fish, but give it to young men from Huotong Town and they can make a lion fly. Indeed, many children growing up in the town in Ningde City, Fujian Province, might be under the impression that lions can actually fly, as they come into contact with the popular string lion dance at an early age.(给渔民一根绳子,他们可以用它来捕鱼,但如果把绳子给胡通镇的年轻人,他们就能让狮子飞起来。的确,在福建省宁德市这个镇上长大的许多孩子可能都会觉得狮子真的能飞,因为他们很小就接触到了流行的提线狮子舞)”可知,作者通过对比渔民和胡通镇年轻人对绳子的不同使用,引出了提线狮子舞这一话题。由此推知,作者提到“渔民”是为了引入主题。故选A项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“The young people made every effort during the show, sometimes using their weight to pull the strings, and other times jumping up and down to control the strings to make the lions do various fancy actions, ranging from rolling, jumping, to running one after another, and fighting for a ball.(年轻人在表演中竭尽全力,有时用体重拉绳子,有时跳上跳下控制绳子,让狮子做出各种花哨的动作,包括翻滚、跳跃、一个接一个地奔跑和抢球)”可知,本段主要描述了提线狮子舞的表演过程,即年轻人如何通过操控绳子让狮子做出各种动作。故选B项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“Like other children in the region, Chen was first fascinated by the dance as a child when his mother took him to watch a lantern show on the day of longtaitou, or Dragon Head Raising Day. He remembers how the crowd suddenly became excited and cheered for the string lions to come out. Curiously, he pushed through the crowd to get a closer view as the lifelike lions came into sight.(和该地区的其他孩子一样,陈小时候就被这种舞蹈迷住了,当时他妈妈带他去看龙头抬头节那天的灯笼表演。他记得人群突然变得兴奋起来,为提线狮子的出场而欢呼。出于好奇,他挤过人群,当栩栩如生的狮子映入眼帘时,他仔细地观看)”可知,陈继红小时候被提线狮子舞所吸引,并留下了深刻的印象。由此推知,正是他童年的这些记忆激发了他成为提线狮子舞者的愿望。故选A项。
【27题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句“Huang Zhenqiao, a senior inheritor of the tradition (黄振桥,这一传统的资深inheritor)”和下文他对舞狮的介绍“says that the string lion dance dates back about 1,300 years and is one of the most attractive shows at the local lantern show on that day(据说舞狮可以追溯到1300年前,是当天当地灯展上最吸引人的节目之一)”可推知,黄振桥是舞狮的传承人。故划线词inheritor与“person who is to pass down a tradition.(传承传统的人)”同义。故选B项。
C
Officials have unveiled the gold, silver and bronze medals that will be awarded at this summer’s Olympic games in Paris, and each one contains a unique souvenir: a fragment of waste iron from the Eiffel Tower.
“It’s the opportunity for the athletes to bring back a piece of Paris with them,” Thierry Reboul, creative director of Paris 2024, told reporters last week. “The absolute symbol of Paris and France is the Eiffel Tower.”
The Eiffel Tower opened in 1889 and during the later repair work, some of the original iron was cut off and preserved over time. Now, some of those preserved metal fragments have found new homes.
Each new Olympic medal features a piece of Eiffel Tower iron—though the signature “Eiffel Tower brown” paint has been removed. These pieces have been shaped into hexagons (六边形),which is the “shape of France”. Besides, there are words “Paris 2024”, the Olympic rings and the Games logo, which looks like a flame or the face of a woman with a bob haircut.
How did they think of such an idea? Joachim Roncin, head of design at the Paris Games organizing committee told the press, “We talked about the design many times and realized that there’s one symbol known across the world, which is the Eiffel Tower. We said to ourselves,’ ‘Hey, what if we approached the Eiffel Tower Operating Company to see if it’s possible to get a bit of the Eiffel Tower to integrate into the medal?”
When the Eiffel Tower Operating Company agreed to volunteer pieces of original iron, “the dream became reality,” adds Roncin.
The medals, designed by the luxury Paris jewelry house Chaumet, make people think of the Eiffel Tower in several other ways. The pieces of iron are secured by what looks like special nails that hold the structure together, and the medals’ ribbons are decorated with patterns of the tower’s latticework structure.
The iron fragments are set in recycled silver, gold and bronze disks. Over 5,000 medals are being made.
28. What does Thierry mean by saying “bring back a piece of Paris”?
A. Part of the athletes’ medal is from the symbol of Paris. B. The athletes will take many photos of Paris.
C. The athletes will buy souvenirs about Paris. D. The Eiffel Tower will be left in the athletes’ memory.
29. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 4?
A. The processing technique of the Eiffel Tower iron pieces.
B. The shape and material of the Olympic medal.
C. The design of the Eiffel Tower iron fragment on the medal.
D. The symbolic meaning of the hexagons.
30. How did the designers get the idea of adding the waste iron?
A. The Eiffel Tower Operating Company put forward the idea.
B The Olympic committee approved of this design.
C. Some volunteers considered it to be a good idea.
D. They got the inspiration while having discussion.
31. What can we infer about the new Olympic medals?
A. They take the shape of the Eiffel Tower. B. They are innovative and typical of French feature.
C. They represent a combination of different cultures. D. They illustrate the idea of sustainable development.
【答案】28. A 29. C 30. D 31. B

【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“How did they think of such an idea? Joachim Roncin, head of design at the Paris Games organizing committee told the press, “We talked about the design many times and realized that there’s one symbol known across the world, which is the Eiffel Tower. For most football-mad parents, taking their child to a game is something they’ve always dreamed of. But for others, it seems impossible. Glenn Faircloth’s son Freddie, 11, was diagnosed with autism (孤独症) aged three. He dislikes noisy environments but Glenn was determined to try and share his love for football with his son.
“We tried going to the football match a couple of times but he didn’t like it. There were obviously a lot of people in a confined space and it can be really noisy, so we ended up leaving before the end. It prevented me from going again as I didn’t want to put him through that experience again,” said Glenn.
That was when Glenn found out about Brentford’s sensory (感官) room in west London. The room accommodates up to four families per game and is designed to provide a safe experience for them to watch their beloved Bees.
Sally Stephens, Brentford’s Fan and Community Relations Director, said: “The idea behind it is to provide a comfortable and friendly environment for children and adults with sensory processing issues. They get the full game experience with the volume turned down. They can still enjoy everything that’s going on with one of the best views in the stadium.”
Brentford sought advice from charities and other organizations when designing the room. It features a sofa and bean bags to allow the audience flexibly (灵活地) to move around, and has a dark pop-up tent in one corner if anyone wants to take some time out. The thick glass blocks out the crowd noise and there is an accessible toilet.
Glenn, who documents his son’s progress, added: “Going to a match was stressful before — now he is actually excited about going to a game. It’s a different ball game. It’s amazing being able to take him to the football match and share that experience with him and have that father and son bonding time. He can still attend something he loves even though he’s different.”
32. What’s the challenge for Freddie watching a football game?
A. He has no interest in football. B. There are crowded environments.
C. He doesn’t have tickets for the games. D. The game schedules are inconvenient.
33. Which feature of the sensory room best meets Freddie’s needs?
A Presence of a professional doctor. B. A space in a dark pop-up tent.
C. Soundproof glass to reduce noise. D. Several flexible seating choices.
34. How did Glenn Faircloth describe the influence of the sensory room?
A. By giving advice to special children.
B. By listing the advantages of the sensory room.
C. By showing love between his son and himself.
D. By describing the different feelings of Freddie.
35. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Going to a football match with his father.
B. The strong connection between father and son.
C. The popularity of football among autism children.
D. A sensory room giving a special boy full experience.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. D 35. D

Maybe you are an average boy or girl. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how:
____36____. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First set your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Find a good place to study. ____37____. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a comer of your room, free of everything but study materials. Do stay away from games, radios, or television. When you sit down to begin, concentrate on the subject.
Make full use of your time in class. ____38____. Focusing on each class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. ____39____. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you’ll remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be overly worried.
____40____. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.
A. Have confidence in yourself.
B. Arrange your time carefully and wisely.
C. This will help you understand the next class.
D. Look around the house for a good study area.
E. There are other methods that might help you with your study.

Sam took a part-time job in a factory during his summer holiday. Unluckily, on his third day of work, he accidentally damaged a costly machine. Sam felt scared when he realized it was difficult for his family to pay for the damage. After hesitating (犹豫) for a moment, he decided to run away from the factory and go back home. With a heavy heart, he rode his bike and finally managed to leave the factory.
“If only I hadn’t broken the machine. I really enjoy working in the factory. All the people there are kind to me,” he thought sadly as he was riding back. However, luck was not on Sam’s side that day. His bike suddenly had a flat tire (爆胎). Feeling depressed, Sam stood by the side of the road. He started to regret choosing to run away. And he was worried that if his parents knew he had broken the machine and chosen to escape, they would be angry with him.
Suddenly, someone called out to him, “Sam, why are you standing here?” It was Uncle Tim, who happened to be passing by on his way home. Sam was shocked to see him. “Uncle Tim, I want to go home but my bike has a flat tire,” Sam answered nervously.
Uncle Tim suggested that he and Sam go to the town and have the bike repaired. Sam was thankful to Uncle Tim for his help. When they walked towards the town, pushing the bike, Uncle Tim found Sam was nervous and anxious. He asked Sam to relax and told him it was an easy task to repair the bike.
Later, Sam took a deep breath and began to tell the truth to Uncle Tim. “It isn’t because of the broken bike. I... I made a mistake in the factory. I broke a machine. Worrying that I would be punished and have to compensate (赔偿) for the damage, I ran away from the factory,” Sam said sadly.
Paragraph 1:
After hearing Sam’s explanation, Uncle Tim stopped, looking at Sam with kindness in his eyes.

Paragraph 2:
Later that day, Sam rode his bike and headed back to the factory.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
After hearing Sam’s explanation, Uncle Tim stopped, looking at Sam with kindness in his eyes. “Sam, everyone makes mistakes. It is how we choose to correct them that matters. As a young adult, you should be brave enough to correct mistakes,” he said in a soft voice. Those words made Sam feel ashamed. Actually, Sam had already realized his mistake, but he needed the courage to correct it. So he thanked Uncle Tim for helping him find it. When they reached the repair store, Sam asked the owner to fix his bike quickly. He couldn’t wait to accept responsibility for his mistake.
Paragraph 2:
Later that day, Sam rode his bike and headed back to the factory. He sincerely apologized to his boss and promised that he would try to pay for the damage. Unexpectedly, the boss excused him because of his honesty and courage to take responsibility for his mistake. And he offered to give Sam more safety training to help him work easily. Filled with gratitude for his boss’s understanding and Uncle Tim’s guidance, Sam learned a valuable lesson about the importance of correcting his mistakes bravely and taking responsibility for his actions.

These pieces have been shaped into hexagons (六边形)which is the “shape of France”.

A. Part of the athletes’ medal is from the symbol of Paris. B. The athletes will take many photos of Paris.

B. The Olympic committee approved of this design.
D
A. Presence of a professional doctor.
