B Amy Johnson was one of the most influential and inspirational women of the twentieth century. She was the first woman to fly alone from England to Australia in 1930 and she set a series of other records throughout her career. Amy grew up in Hull, where her father ran a fish export and import business. She worked for a law firm until, at a loose end one Sunday afternoon, she boarded a bus that took her to Stag Lane Aerodrome in North London. There, Amy was immediately attracted by the planes she watched taking off and landing. Soon she started to spend all her spare time at the airfield. During the 1920s and 1930s, aviation (飞行) was controlled by the rich and famous. However, with great effort, Amy was awarded her pilot’s license (执照) in 1929. Unlike today’s pilots, Amy had no radio link with the ground and no dependable information about the weather, and her maps were basic. But daringly, Amy followed the most direct path-simply by placing a rule on the map, which took her over some of the world’s most dangerous places, meaning she had to fly for at least eight hours at a time. On her Australia trip, despite a forced landing in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert, Amy reached India in a record six days. Although the bad weather took away her chance to beat Hinkler’s record, the world’s press started to pay attention and Amy became “The Lone Girl Flyer”. Amy landed in Australia on Saturday, May 24. Over the next six weeks, she was treated like a superstar. Women asked their hairdressers for an “Amy Johnson wave”. At least ten songs were written about her, and the most famous one was Amy, Wonderful Amy performed by Jack Hylton. Fan mail poured in and such was her fame that an envelope addressed to “Amy flies in England” reached its destination. 4. What originally attracted Amy’s interest in aviation? A. Her father’s success in the fish business. B. Her occasional encounter with airplanes. C. Her inborn curiosity about the sky. D. Her trip from England to Australia. 5. What can we learn from Amy’s flying? A. She pioneered a new airline. B. She had poor flight assistance. C. She made a good fortune through it. D. She preferred short-distance flights. 6. What made Amy be noticed by the press? A. Her bravery to face failure. B. Her successful landing despite difficulties. C. Her special destination of flight. D. Her unique taste in fashion. 7. How does Amy sound in the last paragraph? A. Popular. B. Open-minded. C. Well-rounded. D. Independent C Many diseases and medical conditions are caused by things out of our control. Yet experts say you can control and even prevent many of the factors that increase your chances of dying. Experts note that an unhealthy lifestyle can put you at great risk of heart disease and strokes. So doctors urge us to eat healthy foods, get exercise, stop smoking and limit our alcohol intake. But there is something else you can do. And it is free and easy. Smile! Anand Chockalingam is a heart disease specialist at University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia Missouri. He advises his patients to smile. “When we smile, the brain wiring gets altered. The chemicals that are released are more positive.” He says smiling is a first step in fighting physical and emotional stress and sometimes the stress has harmful effects on human health. This is not just New Age advice. Several studies support Dr. Chockalingam’s prescription -smile more. Disorders of the heart and blood vessels(血管) are the number one cause of death around the world. The main causes of heart attacks and strokes are blockages in blood vessels. These prevent blood from flowing to the heart or the brain. When you feel stressed or under pressure, your body releases many natural hormones(激素) that increase your heart rate and blood pressure. Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone. It increases sugar in the bloodstream. If you are truly in danger, these hormones can help you. They are part of what we call our fight- or-flight response. However, when you are stressed for a long period, these stress hormones may lead to health problems. Dr. Chockalingam says a smile may be one way to help. He tells his patients to smile 20 times an hour. To some, that might seem like a lot of smiling. Or some might even feel foolish... smiling for seemingly no reason. But a smile does not involve drugs. It is free and it has no bad side effects. “Once people smile, they are relaxed. This relaxation directly lowers blood pressure, and improves sugar levels in the blood. If we are smiling, we are breaking that link between stress and health.” 8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To stop people from drinking too much alcohol. B. To show the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. C. To show some factors that can increase the chance of dying. D To introduce a free and easy way to control the factors of dying. 9. What can we learn from paragraph 2? A. The patients who smile can get altered. B. Smiling can add to physical and emotional stress. C. Physical and emotional stress must have bad effects. D. When people smile, there will be positive chemicals produced. 10. Which of the following statements is reasonable? A. The smiling patients are foolish. B. Heart attacks and strokes don’t cause death. C. The stress hormones may lead to different results, good or bad. D. When you feel stressed, the body releases many beneficial hormones. 11. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. Smiling makes you relaxed. B. You should lead a happy life. C. Smiling is beneficial to your health. D. You should stop leading the unhealthy life. D In the summer of 2021, wildfires caused a disaster on an Italian island, burning over 69,000 acres of land and displacing thousands. The Montiferru region, badly affected by the fires, is testing out a new warning system for wildfires, developed by a German company called Dryad. Due to climate change, the number of extreme wildfire events is expected to increase up to 14% by 2030. Apart from billions of dollars of damage they cause, the chemicals they produce are strong pollutants and in 2023, wildfires gave out a record 1.76 billion metric tons of carbon in the atmosphere-equal to more than double Germany’s yearly CO2 emissions (排放物). Existing early warning systems are based on the visual detection of smoke, either through satellite imaging, cameras on the ground or human observers. “But these systems are too dilatory. In order to generate smoke that can be seen from a distance of, say, 10 to 20 miles, the fire has to be very big-you might already have half a football field on fire underneath. Then, if you add the time for firefighters to arrive at the scene, it may have become too big to be put out at all,” said Dryad’s co-founder, Carsten Brinkschulte. Dryad aims to reduce the detection time of wildfires and catch them early. To do so, the company has designed a solar-powered sensor fitted with a gas detector. “It can detect hydrogen, carbon monoxide, etc. Think of it like an electronic nose that you attach to a tree,” says Brinkschulte. Once the sensor detects a fire, it sends out a signal which is then sent to the Internet by satellite and 4G. Finally, what the forest managers get is an alarm with the exact GPS location of the sensor that picked up the fire. So far, Dryad has tested 300 sensors across Europe and plans to make 230,000 units next year. “Our goal is to set up 120 million of them by 2030, which would be able to save 3.9 million hectares of forest from burning and prevent 1.7 billion metric tons of CO2 from reaching the atmosphere,” says Brinkschulte. 12. What do the facts mentioned in paragraph 2 mainly show? A. The danger of wildfire pollutants. B. The environmental stress from wildfires. C. The climate change over the years. D. The problem of CO2 emissions in Europe. 13. What does the underlined word “dilatory” mean in paragraph 3? A. Slow. B. Distant. C. Precious D. Wasteful. 14. How does the new warning system operate? A. By smelling the fire and reporting its location. B. By putting out the fire directly in its early stages. C. By forecasting the weather to prevent the fire. D. By going around the forest to check the fire. 15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Climate change will deepen wildfires. B. The system has great possibilities for use. C. Europe especially suffers from wildfires. D. The system needs further improvement. Virtual tourism is like a magic carpet (魔毯) for travel by letting us explore the world digitally in 3D. ____16____ We can climb Everest or walk around Paris from our sofas without worrying about money, distance, or harming the environment. At an early age, she was crazy about singing. Whenever she had a chance, she would sing to her heart’s content. Her sweet and charming voice tended to get people around attracted to her songs. Living in a small city, I took several odd jobs, determined to do everything in my power to support her. Soon after Jane attended school, her music teacher Mary noticed her talent by chance and volunteered to give her some guidance on how to sing. Jane practiced so hard that before long she made great progress in singing. Unfortunately, one noon a year later, Jane was crossing the street when a careless driver knocked her down. She was rushed to hospital. When I hurried there, the doctor told me that my daughter would probably not stand on her own feet. I froze with shock, feeling as if I had been thrown into a dark world. Weak and dizzy, I was about to fall to the ground when someone took hold of me. It was Mary, who got the news and raced here. She comforted me, saying firmly, “Grace, Jane needs you. You must stay calm and strong.” I nodded. Having calmed down, I entered the ward with Mary. That night, Jane recovered her consciousness (知觉) and opened her eyes. Holding her hand, I said, “My dear, everything would be fine.” Mary comforted her gently, “I know you are a strong girl, Jane. Don’t worry. We’ll be standing by you.” I was heartbroken to see tears streaming down Jane’s cheeks. After two months, we returned home from hospital. Her teachers and friends frequently visited her. Jane eventually accepted the fact that she would have to get around in a wheelchair. Never did she refer to the subject of singing again. I knew she was a nice and understanding girl, who was afraid that talking about her original dream would upset the two of us. One day, however, Mary came with good news. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When the host announced it was Jane’s turn, she was wheeled onto the stage. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 临川一中2024-2025学年上学期期中考试 高二年级英语试卷 卷面满分:150分 考试时间:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. D. Independent 【答案】4. B 5. B 6. B 7. 根据文章第二段“She worked for a law firm until, at a loose end one Sunday afternoon, she boarded a bus that took her to Stag Lane Aerodrome in North London. There, Amy was immediately attracted by the planes she watched taking off and landing. Soon she started to spend all her spare time at the airfield. (她曾在一家律师事务所工作,直到某个周日下午无所事事时,她搭上了一辆开往伦敦北部斯塔格巷机场的公共汽车。在那里,Amy被眼前起起落落的飞机立刻吸引住了。很快,她就开始把所有业余时间都花在机场。)”可知,Amy最初对航空的兴趣源于她偶然间遇到的飞机。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Unlike today’s pilots, Amy had no radio link with the ground and no dependable information about the weather, and her maps were basic. (与当今的飞行员不同,Amy没有与地面进行无线电联系的设备,也没有可靠的天气信息,而且她的地图也非常基础。)”可知,Amy的飞行辅助设备很差。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“On her Australia trip, despite a forced landing in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert, Amy reached India in a record six days. Although the bad weather took away her chance to beat Hinkler’s record, the world’s press started to pay attention and Amy became “The Lone Girl Flyer”. 根据文章最后一段“Over the next six weeks, she was treated like a superstar. (在接下来的六周里,她像超级明星一样受到款待。女人们要求理发师给自己剪个“Amy Johnson式”的波浪发型。至少有十首歌是为她而写的,其中最著名的是Jack Hylton演唱的《艾米,了不起的艾米》。粉丝来信如潮水般涌来,她的名气之大以至于一封寄给“在英国飞行的Amy”的信件也成功送达了目的地。)”可知,Amy非常受欢迎。故选A。 C Many diseases and medical conditions are caused by things out of our control. Smile! Anand Chockalingam is a heart disease specialist at University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, Missouri. D. To introduce a free and easy way to control the factors of dying. D 9. D 10. C 11. 根据文章第一段中的“But there is something else you can do. And it is free and easy. Smile!”(但你还可以做点别的。它是自由和容易的。微笑!)可推知,第一段作者想引出一种可以控制死亡因素的自由、简单的方法——微笑。故选D项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“When we smile, the brain wiring gets altered. The chemicals that are released are more positive.”(当我们微笑时,大脑的线路会发生改变。 由第三段中的“If you are truly in danger, these hormones can help you. They are part of what we call our fight- or-flight response. However, when you are stressed for a long period, these stress hormones may lead to health problems.”(如果你真的处于危险之中,这些激素可以帮助你。 根据文章大意以及最后一段““Once people smile, they are relaxed. This relaxation directly lowers blood pressure, and improves sugar levels in the blood. If we are smiling, we are breaking that link between stress and health.””(“一旦人们微笑,他们就会放松。这种放松直接降低了血压,提高了血糖水平。如果我们微笑,我们就打破了压力和健康之间的联系。”)由此可知,全文围绕“微笑”与“改善心血管状态和对健康的好处”进行阐述,故文章的主旨是微笑对你的健康有益。故选 C 项 D In the summer of 2021, wildfires caused a disaster on an Italian island, burning over 69,000 acres of land and displacing thousands. The Montiferru region, badly affected by the fires, is testing out a new warning system for wildfires, developed by a German company called Dryad. Due to climate change the number of extreme wildfire events is expected to increase up to 14% by 2030. B 13. A 14. A 15. 根据文章第二段“Due to climate change, the number of extreme wildfire events is expected to increase up to 14% by 2030. Apart from billions of dollars of damage they cause, the chemicals they produce are strong pollutants and in 2023, wildfires gave out a record 1.76 billion metric tons of carbon in the atmosphere-equal to more than double Germany’s yearly CO2 emissions.(由于气候变化,预计到2030年,极端野火事件的数量将增加14%。除了造成数十亿美元的损失外,野火产生的化学物质还是强污染物。2023年,野火向大气中排放了创纪录的17.6亿吨碳,这相当于德国年二氧化碳排放量的两倍多。)”可知,第二段首先指出由于气候变化,极端野火事件的数量预计会增加。接着,通过列举野火造成的经济损失和它们向大气中排放的大量碳,展示了野火给环境带来的巨大压力。故选B。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线单词上文以及所在句““But these systems are too dilatory. In order to generate smoke that can be seen from a distance of, say, 10 to 20 miles, the fire has to be very big — you might already have half a football field on fire underneath. Then, if you add the time for firefighters to arrive at the scene, it may have become too big to be put out at all,” said Dryad’s co-founder, Carsten Brinkschulte. 故选A。 根据文章第四段“Dryad aims to reduce the detection time of wildfires and catch them early. 故选A。 根据文章最后一段“So far, Dryad has tested 300 sensors across Europe and plans to make 230,000 units next year. “Our goal is to set up 120 million of them by 2030, which would be able to save 3.9 million hectares of forest from burning and prevent 1.7 billion metric tons of CO2 from reaching the atmosphere,” says Brinkschulte. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 One day, however, Mary came with good news. She told Jane the school music festival was to be held the next month and that her classmates all expected her to sing on behalf of her class. Jane’s eyes sparkled but responded doubtfully, “Can I...?” Mary and I immediately assured her that she could make it. In the following month, with the help of Mary, Jane kept on practicing singing. Beautiful songs echoed in our house again and smiles began to appear on her face. Finally the big day came when she could present herself. When the host announced it was Jane’s turn, she was wheeled onto the stage. Jane was greeted with warm applause. As she began to sing, the audience got absorbed in her beautiful voice. Seconds after her performance, all the audience rose with thunderous cheers. When wheeled off stage, Jane received praise and bunches of flowers from her teachers and classmates. Jane was moved to tears. The kindness and encouragement from her teachers and classmates stimulated Jane’s enthusiasm for life, making her regain confidence in pursuing her original dream, which I will support wholeheartedly. 词汇激活 行为类 ①希望:expect/hope/wish ②回答:respond/reply/answer ③保证:assure/guarantee/ensure 情绪类 ①眼睛闪闪发光:eyes sparkle/eyes glitter ②感动:move/touch 【点睛】[高分句型1]As she began to sing, the audience got absorbed in her beautiful voice.(由连接词as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2]The kindness and encouragement from her teachers and classmates stimulated Jane’s enthusiasm for life, making her regain confidence in pursuing her original dream, which I will support wholeheartedly.(由关系代词which引导非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
