66.Dear Jim,
Knowing that you have got so addicted to mobile games that it has affected your academic performance badly, I am concerned about you a lot.
As is the fact, the use of the cellphone has boomed in the last decade and mobile games have occupied most of our spare time. However, it is not supposed to be the core of life. To get rid of it, I strongly recommend that you develop a healthy habit to divert your attention from the mobile games. Travelling, for example, is a nice option in which you can enjoy the beauty of nature as well as improve the relationship with your family.
I do hope my suggestions are of some help and that you can spend your time more meaningfully.
Yours,
Li Hua
The whole cafe went quiet when they saw what was happening. Then, out of nowhere, people started clapping. It was like something from a movie. Everyone was smiling and looking at the boy enjoying his surprise meal. As the boy ate, the people in the cafe started walking up to the waiter and giving him some money. They were tipping him, but it wasn’t just a few coins; they were super generous. It was like the waiter’s kindness had the leading function, and now everyone wanted to offer him some money.
The boy, with a full stomach and a happy heart, looked as if he couldn’t thank the waiter enough. Perhaps this was the first time he had had such a delicious meal. At the same time, the waiter gave the boy all the money he received just now and encouraged him, “Everything will be OK. Never give up.” The boy was so moved that he couldn’t say any words. He knew that without the waiter’s kind act, he couldn’t have had a full meal. They didn’t talk much, but it didn’t matter. They were just two people sharing a quiet moment together, and it felt like they understood each other perfectly.

Miss England, Jessica Gagen, is not your ordinary beauty winner. She just added an impressive title, a rocket scientist, to her career.
The 27-year-old just graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and she has set her sights on becoming an astronaut (宇航员).
But winning her title just a few months before completing her degree was no easy task for the energetic redhead from Kelmersdale. She is the first red-headed woman — and the first rocket scientist — to be crowned (加冕) Miss England.
Gagen was able to manage both her competition and her schoolwork but the stress of doing both left her with chest pains and sleeplessness. However, she didn’t give up, just as she had been treated badly and always been made fun of as a child for having red hair.
“It was a tough five-year journey to get to this point, and I faced challenges before I even began,” Gagen said. “I think it’s important that today’s youth know that sometimes things don’t go entirely to plan, and that’s perfectly okay.”
Before starting at the university, Gagen studied a foundation year in physics while working on weekends because she didn’t have all the courses she needed for the program. She began studying at the university in 2019 and when the pandemic (流行病) hit, all the course work went online. She did this while working full time at night.
During the course of her studies, Gagen saw that there were very few females in STEM and decided to make it her task to promote (提升) careers in STEM for women and girls on her social media.
In the first year, she won Miss Lancashire and placed second in the national contest but she really wanted to win to promote her task. “There’s a lot of work that goes into becoming Miss England, and I really wanted to win because I knew I could use the platform to get more girls into engineering,” she said.
24.What is special about Miss England mentioned in the text?
A.She is also a scientist. B.She was once an astronaut.
C.She had a happy childhood. D.She has great pressure at present.
25.Why was Gagen laughed at when she was young?
A.She had trouble with her study. B.She was in poor health.
C.The color of her hair was unusual. D.Her clothes were not beautiful.
26.What do we know about Gagen from paragraph 6?
A.Her lifestyle in high school. B.Some of her college education.
C.Her attitude to her classmates. D.The support from her family.
27.What is Gagen’s purpose in winning Miss England?
A.To continue her college education.
B.To realize her dream since childhood.
C.To get confidence to deal with difficulties.
D.To encourage more girls to learn STEM.
【答案】24.A 25.C 26.B 27.D
根据第一段中“Miss England, Jessica Gagen, is not your ordinary beauty winner. She just added an impressive title, a rocket scientist, to her career.(英格兰小姐,杰西卡·加根,不是一般的选美冠军。她刚刚为自己的职业生涯增添了一个令人印象深刻的头衔——火箭科学家)”可知,英格兰小姐杰西卡·加根的特别之处是她还是一名科学家。故选A项。
根据第四段中“However, she didn’t give up, just as she had been treated badly and always been made fun of as a child for having red hair.(然而,她并没有放弃,就像她小时候因为红头发而受到虐待和嘲笑一样)”可知,加根年轻时因头发的颜色特别而被嘲笑。故选C项。
根据第六段“Before starting at the university, Gagen studied a foundation year in physics while working on weekends because she didn’t have all the courses she needed for the program. She began studying at the university in 2019 and when the pandemic (流行病) hit, all the course work went online. She did this while working full time at night.(在进入大学之前,加根在周末工作的同时学习了物理学的基础课程,因为她没有完成该项目所需的所有课程。她于2019年开始在这所大学学习,当疫情爆发时,所有的课程作业都在网上进行。她一边在晚上全职工作,一边完成大学学业)”可知,从第六段中我们可以了解到加根的大学教育经历。故选B项。
27.推理判断题。根据第七段中“Gagen saw that there were very few females in STEM and decided to make it her task to promote (提升) careers in STEM for women and girls on her social media.(加根发现STEM领域的女性很少,于是决定在她的社交媒体上推动女性和女孩在STEM领域的职业发展)”和最后一段中“There’s a lot of work that goes into becoming Miss England, and I really wanted to win because I knew I could use the platform to get more girls into engineering (要成为英格兰小姐还有很多工作要做,我真的很想赢,因为我知道我可以利用这个平台让更多的女孩进入工程学)”可推知,加根在求学过程中发现发现STEM领域的女性很少,所以她想通过赢得英格兰小姐头衔来鼓励更多女孩学习STEM。故选D项。

The process of aging is of particular concern for Americans. This concern is not only related to the likelihood of increasing your chances of coming down with diseases such as heart disease and diabetes(糖尿病), but more importantly, to the loss of your eyesight. As we age the chance that we will develop age-related vision conditions and disorders increases.
Therefore, many people believe that it’s very hard, if not impossible, to improve your vision naturally as you get older due to concerns that the visual system begins to deteriorate at that stage of life. These people also believe they’re stuck with their glasses or contacts for life. So the question is: can aging prevent you from improving your vision naturally?
The answer to that question is no. While aging is inevitable(无法避免的),when it comes to improving, protecting and preserving your precious eyesight, there are things you can do to reduce or slow the negative effects of aging on the visual system. For instance, you can take preventive steps in terms of nutrition and eye exercises that can reduce the negative effects of aging on the eyes.
These simple-and-easy-to-perform techniques make the visual system stronger therefore helping you to improve your vision. They also improve the focusing power of the eyes through vision training eye exercise techniques. Additionally, eye exercises can improve blood flow and circulation to the visual system therefore improving your eyesight. The question is: can these eye exercises help improve vision even in older people? Well, the answer to this question is yes.
According to a scientific research study performed by the National Institute on Aging, elderly adults can quickly improve their vision with a branch of eye exercises called Perceptual Training.
根据第一段的“As we age the chance that we will develop age-related vision conditions and disorders increases.(随着年龄的增长,我们患上与年龄有关的视力疾病和障碍的几率会增加)”推知,年龄的增加会带来和老龄化相关的视力疾病。故选A。
根据第二段的“Therefore, many people believe that it’s very hard, if not impossible, to improve your vision naturally as you get older (因此,许多人认为,随着年龄的增长,自然地改善视力即使不是不可能,也是非常困难的)”和“So the question is: can aging prevent you from improving your vision naturally?(所以问题是:衰老会阻止你自然地改善视力吗?)”,以及第三段的“The answer to that question is no. (答案是否定的)”可知,许多人认为老人的视力难以自然改善,其实不然。故选C。
根据下文“These people also believe they’re stuck with their glasses or contacts for life.(这些人还认为,他们会永远戴着眼镜或隐形眼镜)”可知,戴眼镜或隐形眼镜说明视力不好。由此推测,划线词所在句子“as you get older due to concerns that the visual system begins to deteriorate at that stage of life. ”意为“随着年龄的增长,由于担心视觉系统在生命的那个阶段开始变差”,即deteriorate意为“变差”。故选A。
根据第五段的“According to a scientific research study performed by the National Institute on Aging, elderly adults can quickly improve their vision with a branch of eye exercises called Perceptual Training.(根据美国国家老龄化研究所进行的一项科学研究,老年人可以通过一种称为知觉训练的眼部锻炼来快速改善视力)”可知,该研究告诉我们眼部锻炼可以改善老人的视力。故选D。

You probably take many steps to protect your computer from getting a virus, but what about your cell phone? Cell phones are basically mini-computers, so, believe it or not, they too can get viruses.
“Viruses and malware(恶意软件)should not be a major concern to the average consumer who uses their device to make phone calls, take pictures, and download a few well-known apps from the major app marketplaces,” Tim Katsch Vice President of iDropped said. “If a user is downloading a lot of apps, changing and exploring settings within the device, and visiting a large number of websites from unknown sources, virus and malware protection should be kept on their mind.” If your phone gets a virus it can mess up your data, put random charges on your bill, and get private information such as your bank account number, credit card information, passwords, and your location.
The most common way that you could get a virus on your phone would be through downloading an infected app. Viruses can also get on your phone when you click on strange links or open up an email that contains a virus. Connecting to an unsecured wireless network in a public place is also a way for hackers(黑客)to get private information from your device.
If you're still convinced that your phone might get a virus, there are anti-virus apps that you can download that will constantly scan your phone to make sure it hasn't developed a virus, Apps like these will also check things before you download them to ensure that they are safe. Another tip is to always look over your cell phone bill every month to make sure there aren't charges from apps that you never downloaded.
Technology is getting smarter, but so are hackers, and it's important to always be cautious with anything you do on your phone. Many people store a lot of personal information on their phones, and while that might make life a little more convenient, it can also do a lot of damage if hacked.
32.What can we learn from Tim Katsch's words?
A.The wireless network in the public places is safe to use.
B.Viruses and malware will most probably attack average phones.
C.Downloading a lot of apps will protect your phone from being hacked.
D.The average consumer needn't worry much about a virus or malware.
33.What's the most common way that your phone gets a virus?
A.Downloading an infected app.
B.Clicking on close friends' links.
C.Connecting to your mobile data.
D.Changing your private information.
34.What does the last paragraph convey?
A.Harm set, harm get.
B.Every coin has two sides.
C.Kill two birds with one stone.
D.Technology makes life smarter.
35.What may be the best title for the text?
A.Anti-Virus Apps Make Your Cell Phone Safe?
B.Viruses and Malware Damage Your Cell Phone?
C.Worried About Your Cell Phone Catching a Virus?
D.Ready to Fight Against the Hackers to Your Cell Phone?
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.B 35.C
根据第二段Tim Katsch所说的话“Viruses and malware should not be a major concern to the average consumer who uses their device to make phone calls, take pictures, and download a few well-known apps from the major app marketplaces” 病毒和恶意软件不应该成为普通消费者的主要担忧,他们使用他们的设备打电话,拍照,从主要的应用程序市场下载一些知名的应用程序。
根据第三段第一句“The most common way that you could get a virus on your phone would be through downloading an infected app.” 故选A项。
Every coin has two sides“凡事都有两个方面”为正确答案。故选B项。
本文首句“You probably take many steps to protect your computer from getting a virus, but what about your cell phone” 你可能采取了很多措施来保护你的电脑不受病毒感染,但是你的手机呢。
Say many things, and people will remember none. Say some things, and people will remember some. Say ONE thing, and people will remember ALL. Want to express clear viewpoints? 36 .
Express more, explain less. 37 We think the audience doesn’t understand something, so we explain it, But in that case, explaining serves to correct a failed expression. When you focus on expressing points instead of explaining ideas, you’ll communicate more precisely (精确地). Expressing and delivering are more important about what your audience hears and receives.
38 Wherever you see a list of words or concepts (概念), ask yourself: Do I need all these words or concepts to attract my audience’s attention or are some of them not needed? When you remove less important ideas, your audience will gain more.
Limit paragraphs to three sentences. If you’re writing your idea in a document or email, try to make paragraphs to three sentences or less. This makes it easier for readers to understand your points because they have less content to process. And because you’re writing in short, direct points compared with long pieces of text, you may find yourself writing less overall. 39 .
Hear your own words. No matter how much you review your own, writing, hearing it aloud will always identify places to cut. 40 When you say even one word more than you need to, you make your point one word harder for your audience to receive.
A.Remove unnecessary ideas
B.Know your “Need-to-Know”
C.These four tips shouldn’t be missed
D.You can’t change the style of your writing
E.Explaining is often an understanding behavior
F.Everyone benefits from applying this writing rule
G.You can read it aloud yourself to find out the words
【答案】36.C 37.E 38.A 39.F 40.G
36.根据上文“Say many things, and people will remember none. Say some things, and people will remember some. Say ONE thing, and people will remember ALL. Want to express clear viewpoints?(说很多事,别人什么也记不住。说一些事情,人们就会记住一些。说一件事,人们就会记住所有。想表达清楚的观点?)”结合后文主要就如何清楚表达观点提出了建议,故C选项“这四条建议不容错过”符合语境,故选C。
37.根据上文“Express more, explain less.(多表达,少解释)”以及后文“We think the audience doesn’t understand something, so we explain it. But in that case, explaining serves to correct a failed expression.(我们认为观众不理解的东西,所以我们解释它。但在这种情况下,解释是为了纠正错误的表达)”可知,本句主要在解释这种行为,结合后文可知,观众不理解的东西,所以我们解释它,说明解释是一种理解行为。故E选项“解释通常是一种理解行为”符合语境,故选E。
38.根据后文“Wherever you see a list of words or concepts (概念), ask yourself: Do I need all these words or concepts to attract my audience’s attention or are some of them not needed? When you remove less important ideas, your audience will gain more.(无论你在哪里看到一个单词或概念的列表,问问自己:我是否需要所有这些单词或概念来吸引我的听众的注意力,或者其中一些是不需要的?当你删除不太重要的想法时,你的听众会获得更多)”可知,本段的主旨是删除不太重要的想法,故A选项“去掉不必要的想法”符合语境,故选A。
39.根据上文“Limit paragraphs to three sentences. If you’re writing your idea in a document or email, try to make paragraphs to three sentences or less. This makes it easier for readers to understand your points because they have less content to process. And because you’re writing in short, direct points compared with long pieces of text, you may find yourself writing less overall.(把段落限制在三句话以内。如果你要在文件或电子邮件中写下你的想法,试着把段落缩短到三句话或更少。这会让读者更容易理解你的观点,因为他们需要处理的内容更少。因为你写的是简短、直接的要点,而不是长篇幅的文章,你可能会发现自己写得不够全面)”可知,本段的建议是“把段落限制在三句话以内”,这是一种写作规则,本句为本段最后一句,说明这种写作规则的好处。故F选项“每个人都能从这个写作规则中受益”符合语境,故选F。
40.根据上文“Hear your own words. No matter how much you review your own, writing, hearing it aloud will always identify places to cut.(听听你自己说的话。不管你对自己的文章复习了多少遍,写出来,听到它大声地说出来总能找出要删减的地方)”可知,上文提到了大声地阅读自己的文章,来找出需要删减的地方,G选项中read it aloud对应上文hearing it aloud。故G选项“你可以自己大声朗读来找出单词”符合语境,故选G。

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At one table by the window, a lady just finished up her lunch. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a sandwich and some salad, with a cup of tea to wash it all down. She seemed to be in her own little world, staring out the window every now and then, like she was waiting for something. After a bit, she got up, paid for her meal at the counter and left.
Her table was still a mess, with bits of her meal left behind. It wasn’t a big deal—this happens all the time. But today, something different was going to happen. A young boy, who looked like he’d had a pretty rough time, had been watching her from the table around the corner.
This boy was in rough shape. His clothes were too big and looked like they’d seen better days. His hair was all over the place, and his face had streaks (条痕) of dirt on it. He had that look of someone who hadn’t had a good meal too long. When the lady left, the boy saw his chance, He quickly sat down and started wolfing down the leftovers (吃剩的食物) like it was the best meal he’d ever had.
But then, the waiter walked over. He was an older guy who’d probably seen everything. He didn’t say anything at first, just watched the boy for a second. The boy got scared, stopped eating, and tears started to fill his eyes. He thought the waiter would kick him out for sure. Instead, the waiter took away the half-eaten plate, and the boy’s heart sank.
The boy got up to leave, but before he could get far, the waiter came back and asked the boy to wait for a moment. The waiter gave him a full and fresh meal.

Perceptual Training relates to the ability to improve various visual skills by exposing a person repeatedly to activities involving all kinds of stimuli(刺激物). This improves the way the brain processes visual information by strengthening the connection between the brain and eyes.
28.What can be inferred from the first paragraph?

B.The elders tend to do little to protect their eyes.
C.Aging population is a serious problem in the US.
D.Heart disease is the main cause of old people’s death.
29.What is the misunderstanding about eyesight according to the text?
A.The elders’ eyesight can actually return to normal.
B.Wearing glasses is a good way to improve eyesight.
C.The elders’ eyesight is difficult to improve naturally.
D.Preventive measures can reduce the risk of developing eyesight problems.
30.What does the underlined word “deteriorate” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Become worse. B.Become stronger.
C.Become simpler. D.Become more sensitive.
31.What does the study tell us in the last paragraph?
A.How old people should do eye exercises.
B.How the brain processes visual information.
C.The vision problem is given great attention.
D.Eye exercises can improve vision in elderly adults.

Perceptual Training relates to the ability to improve various visual skills by exposing a person repeatedly to activities involving all kinds of stimuli(刺激物). This improves the way the brain processes visual information by strengthening the connection between the brain and eyes.
