She was remembering some acts of kindness that we did together when she was less than five years old. We talked about how so much had changed, and with the pandemic, how difficult it would be to do so many of those things, especially when it comes to strangers. The next day, I needed something from the downtown area and happened to take her with me. As we walked around on the street, we heard a beautiful male voice singing a very soulful song. We turned around to see a middle-aged man sitting on a street comer with his guitar. A couple were sitting on a bench nearby and listening to his music. After getting a few things done, we happened to sit at an outdoor dining restaurant across from him on the other side of the street. My niece was learning how to sing herself, and she kept smiling and saying how wonderful his singing was. Seeing how moved she was by his music, at the end of our meal, I gave her a ten-dollar bill and asked her to walk across the street and put it in his bowl. She was a little surprised. “Really?” she asked with bright eyes. I nodded. So she headed over and as she approached, the man was just finishing a song and started talking to her, and they ended up having a sweet conversation. She told him how touched she was by his music, and he ended up telling her that she made his day. As she was excitedly repeating the conversation back to me, she mentioned, “He didn’t even know how much it was. He was just thankful that someone was enjoying his music.” 4. What did the author want her niece to do? A. Talk with the man. B. Praise the man. C. Learn music from the man. D. Give money to the man. 7. What do we know from the meeting of the man and the author’s niece? A. They shared singing skills. B. They felt thankful to each other. C. The man was proud of his singing. D. The girl introduced the author to the man. A 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第一段的“She was remembering some acts of kindness that we did together when she was less than five years old. We talked about how so much had changed, and with the pandemic, how difficult it would be to do so many of those things, especially when it comes to strangers.(我们谈到了发生了多么大的变化,随着疫情的蔓延,要做这么多事情是多么困难,尤其是对陌生人)”可知,她想起了在她不到五岁的时候我们一起做过的一些善举。 根据第二段的“As we walked around on the street, we heard a beautiful male voice singing a very soulful song.(当我们走在街上,我们听到一个美丽的男子的声音唱着一首非常深情的歌。)” 根据第三段的“I gave her a ten-dollar bill and asked her to walk across the street and put it in his bowl(我给了她一张10美元的钞票,让她走到街对面,把钞票放在他的碗里)”可知,作者想让她的侄女给这个男人钱,故选D。 根据最后一段的“She told him how touched she was by his music, and he ended up telling her that she made his day.(她告诉他,她被他的音乐感动了,而他最后告诉她,是她让他度过了美好的一天。)” B。 ( C ) When I was at school, I hated art. Growing up in north Wales, I was not able to rate higher than an E in my final exams. I wasn’t too upset; I thought I wasn’t going to choose it as a career. By the time I was about four, I started sleepwalking. At night, I used to go under the stairs and scribble (乱画) on the wall. When I was 15, I was no longer just making scribbles. I was drawing anything from pictures of Marilyn Monroe to unrealistic paintings. I showed some to my art teachers. They said: “Why can’t you do this in class?” It was something I struggled to understand myself. I tried so hard to draw when I was awake, practising and using the same tools. But no matter what I did, I was unable to recreate the drawings. Once I left school I became a nurse, mainly helping people with brain injuries. I also met my partner. He is unbelievably supportive of my art and sleepwalking habits—he often films me as I work. And when I begin to paint in my sleep, I’ll use any tools I can find, sometimes knives and forks. That’s the only thing that worries my partner—that I’ll accidentally hurt myself. I have gone to various sleep clinics to try to get to the bottom of what’s happening, but nothing out of the ordinary was found health-wise. Alcohol or lack of sleep does bring the sleepwalking on more, though, so I am careful about that. I have learned to hug my unusual talent and set up my first art exhibition in 2007 at my local in library to raise money for cancer research. Within a week, I had 160 calls from different media outlets and organizations wanting to hear about my art. I was over the moon. I then decided to leave my very fulfilling job in nursing and become a full-time artist. 8. Why wasn’t the author upset about her art final exams? A. She got used to her E in art. B. She had little interest in her study. C. She was confident in herself. D. She was unwilling to work in art field. 9. What did art teachers think of the author’s sleepwalking paintings? A. They felt worried about them. B. They expressed doubt about them. C. They were indifferent about them. D. They showed confidence about them. 10. What does the underlined phrase “over the moon” probably mean in last paragraph? A. Extremely pleased. B. Really concerned. C. Highly annoyed. D. Greatly shocked. 11. What can we infer about the author from the text? A. She always enjoys painting. B. She is often injured by sleepwalking. C. She has no trouble in sleepwalking now. D. She makes full use of her sleepwalking talent. D 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第一段中“Growing up in north Wales, I was not able to rate higher than an E in my final exams. I wasn’t too upset; I thought I wasn’t going to choose it as a career. (我在北威尔士长大,在期末考试中,我的成绩没能超过E。我并没有太难过;我以为我不会选择它作为我的职业。)”可知,作者对于自己期末美术成绩不感到沮丧是因为作者讨厌美术,作者认为自己不会选择美术作为自己未来的职业,故作者并不觉得难过。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“ I showed some to my art teachers. They said: “Why can’t you do this in class?” (我给我的美术老师看了一些。他们说:“为什么你不能在课堂上做这个?”)”可知,当作者把梦游所画的作品展示给老师的时候,老师对自己表现出了信心,让作者在课堂上也这样做。故选D。 【10题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线词前面的句子“Within a week, I had 160 calls from different media outlets and organizations wanting to hear about my art. (一周之内,我接到了来自不同媒体和组织的160个电话,想要了解我的艺术。)”可知,在作者的画展之后,接到了来自不同媒体和组织的160个电话,想要了解作者的艺术,这表示他们对作者艺术画作的肯定,由此推断作者是极其开心的。A选项“Extremely pleased.(极其地开心)”与划线词为同义词。故选A。 根据第二段“By the time I was about four, I started sleepwalking. At night, I used to go under the stairs and scribble (乱画) on the wall. When I was 15, I was no longer just making scribbles. I was drawing anything from pictures of Marilyn Monroe to unrealistic paintings. (在我四岁的时候,我开始梦游。晚上,我常常走到楼梯下面,在墙上乱涂乱画。当我15岁的时候,我不再只是在涂鸦。我画了很多东西,从Marilyn Monroe的画到不现实的画。)”以及最后一段中“I then decided to leave my very fulfilling job in nursing and become a full-time artist.(然后我决定离开我非常充实的护理工作,成为一名全职艺术家。)” D。 (D) A growing number of experts believe language can influence how we think just as our thoughts and culture can shape how language develops. One instance is that language appears to have a fascinating effect on the way we think about time. Scientists who believe in this have shown that English speakers typically view time as travelling from left to right, most likely in line with the way the English language is written. However, Hebrew speakers, who read and write from right to left picture time as following the same path as their text. Languages also encode(编码) time in grammar. In English for example, the future is one of three simple tenses, along with the past and the present-we say “it rained”, “it rains and “it will rain”. But in German, you can say Morgen regnet, meaning “it rains tomorrow” The same is true for many other languages including Chinese. But does this affect how we think? Keith Chen set out to test whether people who speak “futureless” languages might feel closer to the future than those speaking other languages. He discovered that speakers of futureless languages were more likely to engage in future focused activities. They were 31% more likely to have put money into savings and collected 39% more wealth by retirement. They were also 24% less likely to smoke, 29% more likely to be physically active, and 13% less likely to be medically obese(肥胖的). This result held even when controlling for factors such as socioeconomic status and religion. In fact, countries with futureless languages on average 5% more of their GDP per year. It is becoming increasingly clear that language is influencing how we think about the world and our passage through it. This is not to say that any one language is “better” than another, but being aware of how languages differ helps you think and communicate better. And while learning a new language won’t necessarily make you a genius we can all gain a fresh viewpoint and more flexible understanding of the world through it. 12. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. A comparison of different writing styles. B. A significant study on the direction of time. C. The special reading habit of Hebrew speakers. D. The effect of writing systems on views of time. 13 What can we learn from Keith Chen’s experiment? A. German people mostly live at present. B. Chinese people tend to plan for the future. C. Futureless languages bring increased profits. D. Languages with future tenses call for change. 14. What might the author suggest people do? A. Use foreign languages frequently. B. Choose among languages flexibly. C. Be careful with futureless languages. D. Pay attention to language differences. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Language Reflects the Local Culture. B. Language Affects Our Sense of Time. C. The Benefits of Learning a New Language. D. The Relation between language and thought. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. D 15. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要讲述语言可以影响我们的思维方式。 【12题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段“Scientists who believe in this have shown that English speakers typically view time as travelling from left to right, most likely in line with the way the English language is written. However, Hebrew speakers, who read and write from right to left picture time as following the same path as their text.(相信这一点的科学家已经表明,说英语的人通常认为时间是从左到右的,这很可能与英语的书写方式一致。然而,讲希伯来语的人,从右到左阅读和写作的时间与他们的文本相同。)”可知,这一段主要讲述书写方式对时间观的影响。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Keith Chen set out to test whether people who speak “futureless” languages might feel closer to the future than those speaking other languages. 根据最后一段“It is becoming increasingly clear that language is influencing how we think about the world and our passage through it. This is not to say that any one language is “better” than another, but being aware of how languages differ helps you think and communicate better. (越来越明显的是,语言正在影响我们对世界的看法以及我们在世界中的经历。这并不是说任何一种语言都比另一种语言“更好”,但意识到语言的差异有助于你更好地思考和沟通。)”可知,作者建议人们要注意语言的差异。故选D。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“A growing number of experts believe language can influence how we think just as our thoughts and culture can shape how language develops. One instance is that language appears to have a fascinating effect on the way we think about time.(越来越多的专家认为,语言可以影响我们的思维方式,就像我们的思想和文化可以影响语言的发展一样。一个例子是,语言似乎对我们思考时间的方式有着迷人的影响。)”可知,文章主要讲述语言可以影响我们的思维方式。故选D。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两个为多余选项。 The relationship between parents and a child is among the most important in a person's life. Of all the people in the world, but parents are the only ones who are always there for us, no matter what happens. But why is it that some teenagers act like their parents are the biggest enemies? ____16____ Once the journey to independence begins, the parents are going to be less acceptable than they used to be. ____17____ As kids, we learn almost everything about the world from them. But once we reach our teenage years, we begin to feel like we don't need their help any more. And at the same time, everything from the clothes they wear to the way they speak makes us feel embarrassed. ____18____ Naturally, they have been around a lot longer and they know many more things. So if our parents are always telling us what to do, there's a good reason for this. They just want to protect us from making the mistakes they have made. Any parents' wish is for their children to be safe and do well. ____19____ And while it might seem like all our parents do is to annoy and criticize us, we should listen to their words. ____20____ A. After all, our parents are our greatest teachers in life. B. However, it is our parents who brought us into the world. C. But any advice they give us is meant to protect and guide us. D. With this in mind, we should put ourselves in our parents' shoes. E. This is because teenagers are just trying to find their own identity. F. They reject their parents in an attempt to create their own unique world. G. Indeed, we tend to think that we know better than our parents as we grow older. 【答案】16. E 17. G 18. B 19. D 20. A 【解析】 【分析】本文是说明文。本文主要介绍了青少年与父母关系不好的原因和一些解决办法。 【16题详解】 根据空前一句“But why is it that some teenagers of us act like their parents are our biggest enemies?"可知,空处是对why提出的特殊疑问句的回答,E项中的“because”回答why问句,因此推断E项“这是因为青少年一直在试图找到他们自己的身份"符合该处的语境。故选E项。 【17题详解】 根据空后“ As kids, we learn almost everything about the world from them. But once we reach our teenage years, we begin to feel like we don't need their help any more. (作为孩子时,我们从他们那里学到关于世界的几乎一切。但是一旦我们到了青少年时期, 我们开始觉得我们不再需要他们的帮助了。)”可知,此处是说随着年龄的增长,我们开始觉得不需要父母告诉我们什么了,因此推断我们倾向于认为自己比父母知道得多。G项中的“we know better than our parents”与上文相符,因此推断G项“事实上,我们倾向于认为,随着年龄的增长,我们比父母知道的多。”符合语境,故选G项。 【18题详解】 根据空处下一句“Naturally, they have been around a lot longer and they know many more things. So if our parents are always telling us what to do, there's a good reason for this. (自然,他们生活经验丰富,他们知道更多的事情。所以,如果你的父母总是告诉你该做什么,这是有充分理由的。)”可知,此处是说父母是过来人,知道的东西更多。与前一段我们觉得不需要父母,认为自己比父母知道得更多,是转折关系,B项中的“However”表示转折,因此推断B项“然而,是我们的父母把我们带到了这个世界上。”符合语境,引出下文对父母知道的东西多的阐述。故选B项。 【19题详解】 根据空前一句“Any parents' wish is for their children to be safe and do well.(任何父母的愿望都是希望他们的孩子们安全并且做得好。)”和空后一句“And while it might seem like all our parents do is to annoy and criticize us, we should listen to their words. (虽然我们]的父母似乎做的都是惹恼和批评我们,我们应该听他们的话)”可知,此处是说尽管父母做的让我们恼怒,但是都是为了我们好,因此考虑到这一点,我们应该设身处地地为父母着想。故选D项。 【20题详解】 此处是最后一句,总结上文,根据空前的“And while it might seem like all our parents do is to annoy and criticize us, we should listen to their words. (虽然我们的父母似乎做的都是惹恼和批评我们,我们应该听他们的话)”可知,我们应该听父母的话,A项中的“our parents are our greatest teachers”话题相符,起到总结上文的作用,因此推断A项“毕竟,父母是我们生活中最好的老师”符合语境。故选A项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) When my little sister Indi turned six, she started_____21_____my every move. Once, I was called at 3 am to pick someone up. When I arrived, the building was completely dark except for the light in a window. Many drivers would wait a short while, and then drove away. But I always went to the door to find the passenger. She might need my help. So I walked to the door and knocked “Just a minute,” answered a weak and elderly voice. I could hear the sound of something being dragged across the floor. After a long time, the door opened. A small woman in her 80s stood before me, with a small suitcase. “Would you carry my bag out to the car?” she said. “I’d like a few moments alone. Then, could you come back and help me? I took the suitcase to the taxi, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm, and we walked slowly toward the taxi. She kept thanking me for my kindness. “It’s nothing,” I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.” When we got in the taxi, she gave me an address. Then she asked, “Could you drive through the downtown?” “It’s not the shortest way,” I answered. “I don’t mind,” she said, “I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to the nursing home.” I saw her eyes shining with tears. “I don’t have any family left,” she continued. “The doctor says I am too old to live alone.” I quietly turned off the meter (计程器). “Which road do you want me to take?” I asked. “First, take me to Sunrise Street. She showed me the building where she had once worked. Then we drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newly married. The old lady talked a lot about her happy life in the past. I could see her eyes shining with delight from time to time. But sometimes, she also sighed about her difficult life right now. I made up my mind to do something for her. It seemed only seconds before we arrived at Sunrise Street. “How much do I owe you?” she asked, reaching for her purse. “Oh, you owe me nothing,” I replied. Her eyes opened with great surprise. I could see the puzzle on her face. “You have to make a living,” she said. “I’m on my way home, you see. And I can offer you a free ride. Besides, I also want to thank you for sharing your happiness with me during the whole trip,” I explained. Hearing this, the old lady got off the taxi with great delight. 词汇激活 行为类 ①决定:make up one’s mind/decide ②到达:arrive at/reach/get to ③回复:reply/respond 情绪类 ①开心:delight/joy/happiness ②惊讶:surprise/amazement/shock 【点睛】【高分句型1】She showed me the building where she had once worked.(运用了where引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Then we drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newly married.(运用了where引导的定语从句和when引导的时间状语从句) 1-5 ABCCA 6-10 ABBAC 11-15 ACBCA 16-20 BACAA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年度 第一学期 高一年级英语学科第二次月考 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 1. The girl introduced the author to the man. ( C ) When I was at school, I hated art. Once I left school, I became a nurse, mainly helping people with brain injuries. (D) A growing number of experts believe language can influence how we think just as our thoughts and culture can shape how language develops. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.” When we got in the taxi she gave me an address.
