In 2009 in a small town, Todd Bol came up with an idea to share his mother’s love of reading with others. Bol’s mother had been a teacher who had loved reading. He decided to build a wooden box and fill it with books. Bol placed the box of books on a post in his front yard with a sign that read “Free Books”. Soon his neighbours noticed this tiny model of a “schoolhouse”. They began taking the books and replacing them with books of their own. The tiny library allowed people the opportunity to “check out” books day or night.
Bol’s friends and neighbours wanted little libraries of their own. Bol built several and gave them away. One of his friends, Rick, believed that Bol’s little libraries could benefit more than just local friends and neighbours. With these ideas in mind, Bol and Rick came up with a plan to build over 2,500 Little Free Libraries around the world. They believed that books should be available to all people, no matter where they live or what their background is. To help achieve their goal, Bol and Rick created a website that provides information about the Little Free Libraries and how people can establish little libraries of their own.
Thanks to Bol and Rick, the Little Free Libraries are encouraging people to read more. They didn’t just provide books. They also helped build friendships and a sense of belonging among community members. As more and more people visited Bol’s little library, they began talking with one another. They shared thoughts, ideas, and stories. They got to know one another. Everyone loved the little library. After all, as Bol says, “It’s a magic box with books. People tell us all the time that they’ve met more people in a week than they have in a lifetime.”
Today there are more than 25,000 Little Free Libraries around the world, and they can be found on almost every continent.
4.Bol and Rick created a website mainly to ______.
A.make more money B.establish online libraries
C.replace paper books with e-books D.provide information and guidance
5.What have the Little Free Libraries brought to the community?
A.New buildings. B.More visitors.
C.Friendly relationships. D.Green environment.
6.What can we learn from the story?
A.Well begun, half done. B.Don’t judge a book by its cover.
C.A friend in need is a friend indeed. D.Little people can make a big difference.
根据第二段中“To help achieve their goal, Bol and Rick created a website that provides information about the Little Free Libraries and how people can establish little libraries of their own.(为了帮助实现他们的目标,Bol和Rick创建了一个网站,提供关于小型免费图书馆的信息,以及人们如何建立自己的小型图书馆)”可知,Bol和Rick创建了一个网站,主要是提供信息和指导。故选D。
根据倒数第二段“They didn’t just provide books. They also helped build friendships and a sense of belonging among community members.(它们不只是提供书籍。

Do you know how many kinds of breakfast cereal (麦片) there are in my local supermarket? 165 kinds! That’s just one product. Think about all the varieties of biscuits, yoghourt, and chocolate bars. We have so much choice these days. It’s unbelievable!
So all this choice must be a good thing, right? It makes us happier, right? Well, not necessarily. People like the idea of having a choice, and many people think more choice must be a good thing. But, in fact, too much choice can cause us problems. If there are too many different things to choose from, we can’t know what to choose. If you offer me a choice of three cookies, I can decide quickly which one I want. But if you offer me a choice of 33 cookies, my brain crashes.
Another problem with too much choice is that we think there must be the perfect cookie somewhere. The fact is, there isn’t — so when we have spent half an hour deciding which cookie we want, we feel dissatisfied, because it’s not as good as expected. It’s not cookie perfection. And then we begin to regret all the other cookies we didn’t choose, thinking one of them might have been better.
So there can be such a thing as too much choice. We need to recognize that while some choice is good, too much can leave us at a loss. We should focus on being pleased with what we choose. I am going to remember this next time I’m offered a cookie — choose one and enjoy it!
7. What is the purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To sell a product. B. To express surprise.
C. To introduce the topic. D. To answer a question.
8. What problem can too much choice cause?
A. Difficulty in choosing. B. Worry about health.
C. A careless decision. D. A loss of memory.
9. The underlined part “It’s not cookie perfection” probably means ________.
A. we can’t make good cookies B. there’s no perfect choice
C. we are pleased with all cookies D. the cookie doesn’t taste delicious
10. How will the writer solve the problem of too much choice according to the last paragraph?
A. Recognize the perfect. B. Make a quick choice.
C. Ignore what is offered. D. Enjoy what is chosen.
C 8. A 9. B 10. D
由文章第一段“Do you know how many kinds of breakfast cereal (麦片) there are in my local supermarket? 165 kinds! That’s just one product. Think about all the varieties of biscuits, yoghourt, and chocolate bars. We have so much choice these days. It’s unbelievable!
由文章第二段中“If there are too many different things to choose from, we can’t know what to choose.
由文章第三段中“The fact is, there isn’t — so when we have spent half an hour deciding which cookie we want, we feel dissatisfied, because it’s not as good as expected. A. we can’t make good cookies我们做不出好的饼干;B. there’s no perfect choice没有完美的选择;C. we are pleased with all cookies我们对所有的饼干都很满意;D. the cookie doesn’t taste delicious饼干味道不好。
由文章最后一段中“We need to recognize that while some choice is good, too much can leave us at a loss. We should focus on being pleased with what we choose. I am going to remember this next time I’m offered a cookie — choose one and enjoy it!

Friends are like the colors of the rainbow. A single color is normal, but they become colorful and amazing when they get together. Look, there are three students talking and laughing happily in the hallways. They are Emily, Albert and Mark. 11 However, they have completely different personalities (性格).
Almost every friend group has a “parent”. Emily is certainly the most responsible one among the three. 12 When they hang out, the other two don’t need to worry about anything. If someone wants to find a person to talk to, Emily is always there to listen. If someone needs advice, Emily is the first person they would ask.
Albert is a quiet but talented boy. He doesn’t like talking too much. In most of his free time, he enjoys reading in the classroom or the school library, so he can always get good grades. When his friends have problems in study, Albert is often ready to help them out. 13
Mark is a born leader. He is quite outgoing and kind-hearted. He joins the sports and the art clubs. At the same time, he is interested in outdoor activities. He often organizes class trips, bike riding races and other relaxing games. This makes him popular at school. 14 Sometimes, he goes to the old people’s home to talk with the old. On weekends, he often helps clean up the neighborhood.
When they go out together, Emily makes plans and Albert listens with interest. Mark encourages the other two to try new things. In return, Albert shares his favorite books with others. They make a perfect group and everyone can learn from each other. 15 So it’s not important for friends to be the same, but necessary to understand and respect each other.
A.Students all look up to him.
B.The differences bring them together and closer.
C.What’s more, he does lots of volunteer work after school.
D.She often helps her friends and makes sure things go well.
E.They have been good friends since they came into the school.
【答案】11.E 12.D 13.A 14.C 15.B

They are Emily, Albert and Mark.(看,有三个学生在走廊上有说有笑。 可知,此处应与空后内容为转折关系,E选项“They have been good friends since they came into the school.(自从他们来到这所学校,他们就一直是好朋友。)”
12.根据空前的“Emily is certainly the most responsible one among the three.(艾米丽无疑是三个人中最负责任的一个。)”可知,此处介绍的是艾米丽的情况,结合空后的“When they hang out, the other two don’t need to worry about anything. If someone wants to find a person to talk to, Emily is always there to listen. If someone needs advice, Emily is the first person they would ask.(当他们出去玩的时候,另外两个不需要担心任何事情。 可知,Emily是最认真负责,乐于助人的,所以此空讲述的内容应是介绍艾米丽在这三个朋友中的角色和作用,D选项“She often helps her friends and makes sure things go well.(她经常帮助她的朋友,确保事情进展顺利。)”
13.根据空前的“In most of his free time, he enjoys reading in the classroom or the school library, so he can always get good grades. When his friends have problems in study, Albert is often ready to help them out.(在他的大部分空闲时间,他喜欢在教室或学校图书馆读书,所以他总是能取得好成绩。 故选A。
14.根据空后“Sometimes, he goes to the old people’s home to talk with the old. On weekends, he often helps clean up the neighborhood.(有时,他去老人的家和老人聊天。 可知,马克在平时会做一些志愿者工作,去老人的家帮助打扫,C选项“What’s more, he does lots of volunteer work after school.(更重要的是,他在放学后做了很多志愿者工作。)”
15.根据空后的“So it’s not important for friends to be the same, but necessary to understand and respect each other.(所以,朋友之间是否一样并不重要,重要的是要相互理解和尊重。)”和空前的“When they go out together, Emily makes plans and Albert listens with interest. Mark encourages the other two to try new things. In return, Albert shares his favorite books with others. They make a perfect group and everyone can learn from each other.(当他们一起外出时,艾米丽制定计划,阿尔伯特饶有兴趣地听着。

根据空格前的known可知,此处用介词for构成固定短语be known for表示“因……
故填that/which。
故填a。
根据上文a variety of和下文的are可知,此处应该用名词复数形式与 Chinese foodstuffs并列作主语。故填ingredients。
故填to show。
