T: Today we are going to learn about a very important traditional Chinese festival. Let’s watch a short video first.
Play a video about the Mid-Autumn Festival, showing the beautiful moon, family reunions, and people eating mooncakes.
Lead-in
After watching the video, ask students some questions.
T: What festival did you see in the video?
Ss: Mid-Autumn Festival.
T: What do you usually do at the Mid-Autumn Festival?
Ss: We eat mooncakes. / We watch the moon.
T: Great. Now let’s learn more about this festival.
Presentation
New words teaching
Show pictures of a family, a festival, the moon, and a mooncake.
T: Look at this picture. This is a family. We are all in a family. Family. (Write the word on the blackboard and let students read several times)
Teach the words “festival, moon, mooncake” in the same way. For example:
T: This is a big festival. We celebrate it every year. Festival. (Explain the meaning and pronunciation)
Sentence pattern teaching
T: At the Mid-Autumn Festival, we usually get together with our family. We can say “At the Mid-Autumn Festival, we...” (Write the sentence on the blackboard and give some examples)
T: At the Mid-Autumn Festival, we eat mooncakes. At the Mid-Autumn Festival, we watch the moon.
Let students practice the sentence pattern with partners, substituting different activities.
Practice
Group work: Make a Mid-Autumn Festival poster.
Divide students into groups. Each group gets a large piece of paper and some colored pens.
T: Now, let’s make a poster about the Mid-Autumn Festival. You can draw pictures of the moon, mooncakes, families, and write some sentences about what we do at this festival. Use the words and sentence patterns we just learned.
Walk around the groups, providing help and guidance. Encourage students to communicate and cooperate in English.
After about 10 minutes, ask each group to show their poster and introduce it to the class.
For example:

Select some students to play different family members.

Writing task
