II. Grammar and Vocabulary (20分)
Section A
Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other
blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
There is a tendency to feel out of control and more fearful when we are unfamiliar with or don’t understand something. When I hear people who don’t travel 1 (express) fears about faraway places, I like to ask them how they formed their opinion. Usually it is from outdated news stories, friend-of-a-friend anecdotes (趣闻轶事), or politically-motivated tales.
It is rare to meet a fearful traveler. It is even rarer to meet a traveler that grows more fearful as they gain experience. There is something telling in that.
Sure, there are places in the world that are inadvisable 2 (visit), for example, disaster and conflict zones, but they are extremely small. Demonizing (妖魔化) strangers is easy. It is 3 (easy) to demonize friends. Traveling, 4 (expose) to another culture and connecting with people helps reduce the risk that areas of conflict will spread.
Through traveling, you learn quickly that it is foolish to put people into categories and that the cartoonish impressions 5 (use) to describe other nationalities are completely inaccurate. In fact, when you see someone thoughtlessly demonizing any group they do not know well, it says much more about the accuser than 6 accused.
Through traveling, we learn that people of all cultures share basically the same hopes and aspirations 7 we have. Yes, outside appearances are often vastly different. We dress in different manners and have different traditions and languages. Some cultures are outgoing and 8 are more reserved. But all cultures love their children, are proud of their heritage, want to improve conditions for their families and leave a legacy of some sort behind.
Through traveling, which is essentially a journey into the unknown, our preconceptions, often deeply rooted in our cultural backgrounds, 9 (challenge) in ways that compel us to question and sometimes even reshape our beliefs. You will see other, perhaps better, ways of accomplishing positive things. 10 ________ building walls and barriers to understanding, we should be searching for common ground, encouraging humankind to be more tolerant of each other.

A Letter to My Daughter
I know perhaps you will be surprised to read this: I remember well what it was like to be a (n) 11 . As I watch you prepare for your first day of senior high school, there are a few things I want you to know.
You may be putting yourself under 12 to make sure that everything is perfect for that first day, but I want you to know that there’s no such thing as perfect. I’ve said it before, but it 13 repeating. There is nothing perfect. There is only good enough, but what is most important is believing you’re good enough — just as you are.
Also, remember that you’re not in this boat alone. You’re not the only one facing a new school, new classmates, new teachers, new 14 and new pressures. At some point, everyone else is — or was — where you are right now. I hope you find 15 in that.
There might be some people who will not always be so friendly to you . You will find such people not only in senior high school, but throughout your 16 life . When you are reflecting on a (n) 17 comment someone made on you or an unfriendly glance that came your way, I hope you’ll remember that these behaviours always say more about the giver than the receiver and there will never be a (n) 18 of kind people and genuine smiles in your life. Remember that, too, when you are tempted to be nasty to someone else.
As you go forward into this new chapter in your life, I hope you’ll realize early that we are most often held back by the 19 we put on ourselves — by the stories we tell ourselves about who and what we are. Whenever you’re tempted to say, “I can’t ...” or “I’m not ...” about something you really want to 20 , I hope you’ll change that story — because you can and you are.

To be honest. I’ve been missing the online shopping experience in China since I moved to the US four years ago. So when I noticed Shein becoming mainstream in the US over the past few years, I though, Great! I finally have a Taohao replacement! So I went on my first Shein journey in August 2022.
But somewhere along the way, I started questioning why I enjoy this particular kind of shopping, and also what it means for an e-commerce platform to offer endless deals.
To be fair, there are Shein purchases that I’ve really enjoyed, like a $2 nylon watchband that feels better than my original Apple Watch band. I also think people should be able to choose quantity and price over quality, because the idea of demanding that people only buy premium products feels unrealistic.
But as it turns out, I’ve finally started to see through the illusion (错觉) of Shein-like platforms. To get these occasional incredible deals, you are encouraged to shop much more than is necessary or even reasonable. This illusion has worked for a long time and for a lot of people, including me! But it’s become harder and harder to ignore the environmental consequences of my purchases, and the ways in which platforms trick people into buying more and more.
And I don’t think I’m the only one experiencing that awakening. Broadly speaking, I think society is slowly but surely shifting toward recognizing the climate impact of mass-produced cheap goods. While these conversations have yet to happen as widely and furiously in China, companies like Taobao and Shein will inevitably have to answer the question of whether their business model is sustainable for everyone—or only for themselves. So where are they beading from here? There’s certainly a lot of soul-searching for the industry to do.
And I’m doing some soul-searching of my own.
36.Why does the author mention a “$2 nylon watchband”?
A.To compare it with her original band.
B.To persuade readers to buy it.
C.To show her satisfaction with Shein.
D.To show its cheapness.
37.What does the underlined word “premium” mean in the third paragraph?
A.High-quantity. B.Expensive.
C.High-quality. D.Original.
38.What do the customers tend to do with the illusion of Shein-like platforms?
A.They get incredible products on sale.
B.They often buy much more than what they need.
C.They ignore the environmental impacts.
D.They are tricked into buying more and more reasonable products.
39.What is a consequence of endless deals in e-commerce platforms?
A.Environmental harm. B.Price reduction.
C.Energy shortage. D.Worldwide starvation.

Famous works of art are under threat in several ways. Lots of artworks have fallen victim to wars. Natural disasters have also destroyed much of our cultural heritage. Besides, pollution and climate change are putting many works of art at risk. Despite our best efforts, only a small number of famous works of art have managed to survive the test of time. And this is where technology comes in.
A major issue with preserving works of art is their constant exposure to air pollutants. To solve the problem, art preservers have been employing the artificial nose. It was initially developed by Kenneth Suslick, a researcher at the University of Illinois, for biomedical purposes. Combined with the technology of electricity and light, the artificial nose has the ability to sniff out pollutants in the air before they can damage the artwork.
Surveyors around the globe are creating 3D databases to preserve artworks and sites in digital form. In Syria, a French 3D digitization agency called Iconem has launched a project called Syrian Heritage to preserve local endangered structures and sites. The Iconem team use drones (无人机) to conduct photographic surveys of the area and then use photogrammetry to process and connect the stream of photographs to construct 3D versions. These versions offer a clear view of endangered sites and allow people to virtually visit and interact with select sections of each site.
Non-invasive techniques like X-rays can collect valuable data about famous works of art. AI can then use this data to understand patterns, which can be used to restore or recreate images that have been lost forever. For instance, when Rembrandt van Rijn’s The Night Watch was moved to another location. it was unintentionally shortened. Now researchers have used AI to reconstruct the painting. Similarly, three of Gustay Klimt’s paintings that were lost in a 1945 fire in Vienna were recreated with the help of AI.
As mentioned earlier, despite our best efforts, only a small number of artworks from the past make it to the future. But thanks to technological breakthroughs, we have a better shot at increasing that number.
43.What can the artificial nose do to protect artworks?
A.Detect air pollutants for them. B.Stop them from exposure to air.
C.Analyze their biomedical elements. D.Combine it with electricity and light.
44.What does Paragraph 3 focus on?
A.Why photos are collected for the database. B.Why Iconem has launched Syrian Heritage.
C.How artworks are preserved in digital form. D.How 3D technology is created for artworks.
45.Why is Rembrandt van Rijn’s The Night Watch mentioned?
A.To show how it was shortened. B.To stress it shouldn’t be moved.
C.To reveal the magic function of AI. D.To explain the importance of X-rays.
46.Which of the following would be a suitable title for the text?
A.3D Database Is Linked with Life B.Technology Is Saving Artworks
C.AI Can Create Fantastic Artworks D.Only a Few Artworks Stand the Time
Section C
Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.
In 2009, the number of hungry people in the world reached one billion for the first time. It is difficult not to be shocked by the fact that more than one in seven people on the planet do not have enough to eat. 47 Hunger kills more people per year than AIDS and malaria (疟疾) combined.
The UN estimates that almost two-thirds of the world’s hungry people are in Asia, which is of course the world’s most populous continent. 48 Although this region has a much lower population than Asia, it has the highest percentage of hungry people. Almost all of the rest are in Latin America, North Africa and the Caribbean. In the richest regions of the world there are only a small number of people who don’t have enough to eat.
49 They include wars, droughts, floods and the overuse of farming land. All of them affect food production. But the most important reason is, quite simple, poverty — which has increased recently due to the economic effects of the financial crisis of 2008.
Although many people point out that there would be less hunger if the global population were smaller, few people would argue that there is not enough food to go around. The basic problem seems to be not a lack of food, but its distribution. In the last 50 years, global food production has risen even more quickly than the global population and there are of course many areas of the world where people generally have more than enough food. 50 The answer to world hunger, therefore, may be a balanced food distribution around the whole world. Everyone will have enough to eat, but not overeat.
A.More than a quarter are in sub-Saharan Africa.
B.There are many reasons for world hunger.
C.It takes the effort of every country to fight against world hunger.
D.In those places, obesity is a far bigger problem than hunger there.
E.Those places need far more food than they actually get.
F.By the end of this year, more than 35 million people will have died as a result of not having enough to eat.
IV. Summary Writing (10分)
51.Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in NO MORE THAN 60 WORDS. Use your own words as far as possible.
A remarkable variety of insects live in this planet. More species of insects exist than all other animal species together. Insects have survived on earth for more than 300 million years, and may possess the ability to survive for millions more. Insects can be found almost everywhere -- on the highest mountains and on the bottom of rushing streams, in the cold South Pole and in bubbling hot springs. They dig through the ground, jump and sing in the trees, and run and dance in the air. They come in many different colours and various shapes.
There are many reasons why insects are so successful at surviving. Their amazing ability to adapt permits them to live in extreme ranges of temperatures and environments. The one place where they have not yet been found to any major extent is in the open oceans. Insects can survive on a wide range of natural and artificial foods -- paint, pepper, glue, books, grain, cotton, other insects, plants and animals. Because they are small they can hide in tiny spaces.
Also, insects have an enormous reproductive capacity: An African ant queen can lay as many as 43,000 eggs a day.
Another reason for their success is the strategy of protective colour. An insect may be right before our eyes, but nearly invisible because it is cleverly disguised(伪装) like a green leaf, lump of brown soil, gray lichen(青苔), a seed or some other natural object. Some insects use bright, bold colours to send warning signals that they taste bad, sting or are poison. Others have wing patterns that look like the eyes of a huge predator, bitter-tasting insects; hungry enemies are fooled into avoiding them.

1.expressing 2.to visit 3.less easy 4.being exposed 5.used 6.the 7.that 8.others 9.are challenged 10.Instead of
be+adj+to do为固定结构,此处表示“不建议去旅行”。故填to visit。
空处与traveling和connecting并列作主语,用动名词,be exposed to“接触”,此处用being exposed。故填being exposed。
故填used。
根据“it says much more about the accuser than _____ accused”可知,此处是“the accused”和“the accuser”进行比较,表示“它更多地说明了指控者而不是被指控者的情况”,为“the+形容词”表示一类人。故填the。
故填that。
some…,others…
故填are challenged。
根据句意,building walls and barriers to understanding为不应该做的事情,空处要用短语instead of“表示“代替,而不是”,句首单词首字母大写。故填Instead of。

Section B
Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
A
To be honest.
【答案】36.C 37.C 38.B 39.A
根据第三段的“To be fair, there are Shein purchases that I’ve really enjoyed, like a $2 nylon watchband that feels better than my original Apple Watch band. (说句公道话,我确实很喜欢Shein的一些产品,比如一条2美元的尼龙表带,感觉比我原来的Apple Watch表带要好)”并结合上文提到作者喜欢网购体验,在回国4年后终于可以在Shein进行网购推知,提到“2美元一条的尼龙表带”是为了表达作者对于在Shein网购的满足感。故选C。
37.词句猜测题。根据第三段的“I also think people should be able to choose quantity and price over quality(我还认为人们应该能够选择数量和价格而不是质量)”可知,作者认为除了质量,人们还应该能在数量和价格上进行选择。
根据第四段的“But as it turns out, I’ve finally started to see through the illusion (错觉) of Shein-like platforms. To get these occasional incredible deals, you are encouraged to shop much more than is necessary or even reasonable. (但事实证明,我终于开始看穿了shein式平台的假象。为了得到这些偶尔令人难以置信的交易,你被鼓励购买远远超过必要甚至合理的东西)”推知,当消费者在诸如Shein这样的平台购物时容易买多于自己实际需要的商品。故选B。
39.细节理解题。根据第四段的“But it’s become harder and harder to ignore the environmental consequences of my purchases, and the ways in which platforms trick people into buying more and more.(但我越来越难以忽视我的购物对环境造成的影响,以及平台诱使人们买得越来越多的方式)”和最后一段的“Broadly speaking, I think society is slowly but surely shifting toward recognizing the climate impact of mass-produced cheap goods. (总的来说,我认为社会正在缓慢但肯定地转向认识到大规模生产的廉价商品对气候的影响)”可知,电子商务平台无休止的交易会给环境和气候带来影响。故选A。

C
C.AI Can Create Fantastic Artworks D.Only a Few Artworks Stand the Time
【答案】43.A 44.C 45.C 46.B
由文章第二段“Combined with the technology of electricity and light, the artificial nose has the ability to sniff out pollutants in the air before they can damage the artwork.(结合电和光技术,人工鼻子能够在污染物损坏艺术品之前嗅出空气中的污染物。)” 故选A项。
由文章第三段“The Iconem team use drones (无人 机) to conduct photographic surveys of the area and then use photogrammetry to process and connect the stream of photographs to construct 3D versions. These versions offer a clear view of endangered sites and allow people to virtually visit and interact with select sections of each site.(Iconem团队使用无人机对该地区进行摄影调查,然后使用摄影测量来处理和连接照片流,以构建3D版本。这些版本提供了濒危遗址的清晰视图,并允许人们虚拟访问和与每个遗址的选定部分互动。)”以及本段上文可知,本段主要讲艺术品是如何以数字形式保存的。故选C项。
45.推理判断题。由文章第四段“ AI can then use this data to understand patterns, which can be used to restore or recreate images that have been lost forever. For instance, when Rembrandt van Rijn’s The Night Watch was moved to another location. it was unintentionally shortened. Now researchers have used AI to reconstruct the painting.(然后,人工智能可以使用这些数据来理解模式,这些模式可以用来恢复或重建永远丢失的图像。例如,伦勃朗的《守夜人》被搬到了另一个地方。它被无意中缩短了。现在,研究人员已经使用人工智能重建了这幅画。)”可知,人工智能可以用来恢复或重建永远丢失的图像,接着提到伦勃朗的《守夜人》是为了揭示人工智能的这一神奇功能。故选C项。
46.主旨大意题。由文章第一段“Famous works of art are under threat in several ways. Lots of artworks have fallen victim to wars. Natural disasters have also destroyed much of our cultural heritage. Besides, pollution and climate change are putting many works of art at risk. Despite our best efforts, only a small number of famous works of art have managed to survive the test of time. And this is where technology comes in.(著名的艺术品在几个方面受到威胁。许多艺术品成为战争的牺牲品。自然灾害也摧毁了我们的大部分文化遗产。此外,污染和气候变化使许多艺术品面临风险。尽管我们尽了最大的努力,但只有少数著名的艺术品能够经受住时间的考验。这就是技术发挥作用的地方。)”以及下文可知,文章主要介绍几种保护艺术品的科学技术,所以B项Technology Is Saving Artworks(技术正在拯救艺术品)符合语境。故选B项。
【答案】47.F 48.A 49.B 50.D
47.根据In 2009, the number of hungry people in the world reached one billion for the first time. It is difficult not to be shocked by the fact that more than one in seven people on the planet do not have enough to eat.
48.根据Although this region has a much lower population than Asia, it has the highest percentage of hungry people.
They include wars, droughts, floods and the overuse of farming land.
50.根据In the last 50 years, global food production has risen even more quickly than the global population and there are of course many areas of the world where people generally have more than enough food.以及Everyone will have enough to eat, but not overeat.

Large varieties of insects successfully survive almost anywhere for several reasons. First, their adaptive capacities enable them to survive in extreme temperatures and environments. They can live on various foods and hide in tiny places. Second, insects excel at reproduction. Last, insects use protective colors to disguise or give warnings so that they successfully fool their enemies.

What am I supposed to do on earth when my roommate is going through a culture shock?
(leave)
His answer was alive with showing off, but didn't get to any point at all, leaving all the interviewers looking at each other speechlessly.
His answer was alive with showing off, but didn't get to any point at all, leaving all the interviewers looking at each other speechlessly。
(rooted; take)
As long as you are rooted in your dream and do your best to close to it step by step, you will be more brave while taking the knocks and get closer to your dream.
表示“只要”应用连词as long as,引导条件状语从句;表示“踏踏实实”应用动词短语be rooted in;表示“梦想”应用名词dream;表示“尽自己所能”应用动词短语do one's best;表示“一步步”应用副词step by step;表示“遭遇挫折”应用动词短语take the knocks;表示“离...越近”应用动词短语get closer to;时态是一般现在时。故翻译为As long as you are rooted in your dream and do your best to close to it step by step, you will be more brave while taking the knocks and get closer to your dream。

With the approaching of the New Year, everyone is ready to do the house cleaning, preparing new ornaments. On the Spring Festival’s Eve, my family and I gather around the table for a big dinner, after which, we stay up late or all night.
