(23-24九年级上·黑龙江鹤岗·期末)As we go through life, sometimes bad things happen to us that we have no control over. But with the help and kindness of others, we can overcome these things. A few of my friends shared some of their memories about this kind of kindness with me.
Linda: Once, when I was on my way back to my hometown, I lost my purse. I heard over the train’s loudspeaker that my purse was at the railway station’s lost and found office. But the train had already left the station. Seeing my helplessness, a kind railway worker lent me some money. I went back to the railway station and got my purse back. I am still thankful to the railway worker and the person who found my purse.
Scott: When I was a little boy, I once went fishing with my elder sister. All of a sudden, I fell into the river. Luckily, someone got me out of the river. I don’t know the name of the person who saved my life, but ever since then. I have tried to help other people whenever I can.
Mary: One of my neighbors is an old man who can’t speak. He makes money by recycling waste. Our other neighbors don’t like him looking through their trash. But it’s the only thing he can do to support his family. Every time I clean up my house, I put all the recyclable materials in his garden. One day, I found a note outside my door: “You are a kind girl. Thanks a lot!”

(23-24九年级上·山东滨州·期末)Everyone has neighbours, and everyone needs neighbours. We all want to have nice neighbours. It is important to live with some nice neighbours. We feel happy to live with them. Of course, sometimes we need to be alone; we don’t always need people around us. But we may feel lonely (孤独的) if we never have nice neighbours.
All people are not the same. Neighbours sometimes don’t get on well (相处融洽). It doesn’t mean that they don’t like each other. Most of the time they will become nice neighbours again. Sometimes old neighbours move away. Then we feel very sad and we miss them very much, but we can call and write to them. And we may have new good neighbours. It’s surprising to find out how much we like new neighbours when we get to know them.
Good neighbours are helpful. A good neighbour would like to help us when we need him or her. For example, if we are not at home, our good neighbours will watch our houses for us. If we are sick, he or she will send us to the hospital.
There is more good news for people who have nice neighbours. They live longer than people who don’t have any nice neighbours. Why? Because they are happier. Being happy helps you feel well. I think we all should learn to be good neighbours.
11.How may we feel if we never have nice neighbours?
12.Do all people always get on well?
13.How can we keep in touch with (与……保持联系) our old neighbours if they move away?
14.What will your good neighbours do for you if you’re not at home?
15.Why do people with nice neighbours live longer than those without nice neighbours?

(23-24九年级上·山东淄博·期末)It was a perfect summer morning on the beach in Rio De Janeiro. A man set up his umbrella and chair near the water and was ready to read his book. Just then, when he looked toward the sea, he noticed a small shape that came out of the water. It slowly made its way out onto the sand and began to flap (拍动) its wings. It was obviously weak and tired.
When the creature was just a few feet away, the man couldn’t believe his eyes. A penguin? Penguins don’t belong to Rio. The man was amazed. He looked around to see if there was anyone else noticing this strange sight.
A jogger soon appeared, followed by another. They stopped and stared. It was clear that the penguin was having trouble breathing. The first jogger looked at the sea and said, “Poor fellow, so far away from home. ”
The penguin fell to its side. It had swum 2,000 miles, trying to find the tiny fish that penguins like to eat. Why did the penguin need to travel so far? Perhaps it was confused by moving ocean currents and temperatures—common effects of global warming. The penguin needed help. It would not survive on the hot sand.
One of the joggers phoned for help, and soon some firemen arrived. The man was glad that the penguin would soon be safe, although he felt a little sad, too.
The event on the beach at Rio happened some time ago. It was only the beginning of penguin migration (迁移) to Brazil. Since that time, hundreds of penguins have appeared on the coasts of Brazil. They come all the way from Patagonia and the Straits of Magellan, southern parts of South America. They land on the sands very tired and hungry, and many of them die. Some are shipped or flown back to colder waters farther south.
Perhaps the experience of the penguins will help us better understand the serious effect of human activity on climate change and on the condition of our planet.
16.What season did the story happen in?
17.Why did the man think it strange to see a penguin on the beach of Rio?
18.What probably caused the penguin to land on the beach of Rio?
19.Do you think the writer is worried or happy from the underlined sentence in the passage?
20.What’s the writer’s purpose to write this passage?

Trends (潮流) come and go. Many things that people buy to follow the fashion end up in the rubbish bin. Now, young Chinese people are giving these things a second life. Nowadays, we can see many “stoopers” in big cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. They pick up idle (闲散的) things and reuse them.
Chen Jiaorong, 27, is one of them. She has been stooping since June 2022. At that time she found that many people were letting go of things hardly used after the COVID lockdown (封闭管控) in Shanghai. After that, she often “hunted treasures (寻宝)” in her free time. Now, her small apartment holds things redesigned (重新设计) from the idle things she collected, including tables, chairs and clothing.
“Some say stooping means collecting rubbish,” Chen said. “But for me, it is about making the best use of things.” That’s why she wanted to share the trend with others. Sometimes Chen also puts eyeball-shaped stickers (小贴纸) on idle things that she doesn’t need and posts pictures of them on social media (社交媒体) for others to find.
With a hobby of keeping things since childhood, Huang Xiaohe from the Xishan High School in Kunming also loves stooping. Though the 12-year-old has few chances to go stooping in her city, Huang often looks for idle things around school. Then, she cleans and redesigns them, turning them into fun things at home. The cotton from a found toy bear dresses a cloud lamp, bottles become decorations (装饰) and old facial masks (面膜) are used to make clothes for her Barbie dolls.
“I believe that any waste can be turned into treasures,” said Huang. She also added that stooping is an action to fight over-buying.
26.When did Chen Jiaorong start stooping?
27.What does stooping mean for Chen?
28.Does Huang Xiaohe have many chances to go stooping?
29.How does Huang Xiaohe turn idle things into treasures?

(23-24九年级上·吉林白山·期末)Wu Yishu, a 16-year-old student from Shanghai, won a Chinese poetry (诗) competition in the second season of the Chinese Poetry Conference on Feb 7th, 2017. She beat other competitors because of her learning about Chinese culture and works. “I get feelings from ancient poetry that modern people cannot give me. I pay little attention to the competition result, but I love poetry, and it is enough as long as I enjoy the happiness brought by the poetry,” Wu said.
In the final, Wu performed strongly in many parts, such as competitors recalling poems by looking at sand paintings and reciting (背诵) poems about the Chinese character “Jiu” as many as possible.
As early as Feb 1st, when Wu recited an ancient Chinese poem about the months of the year, someone said that Wu must have remembered at least more than 2,000 Chinese poetry. Wu’s strong performance in the Chinese ancient rhythm works earned (赢得) her many fans and inspired (鼓舞) others to learn ancient works. The 1.8-meter tall Wu said that she kept only one ancient poetry book on the bookshelf at her dormitory room instead of other books such as math, physics and chemistry books that her classmates have kept on their bookshelves.

(23-24九年级上·吉林·期末)Umbrellas could be one of the world’s most important inventions. The first umbrella was invented over four thousand years ago.
Umbrellas were used on sunny days at first. Chinese people were the first to use their umbrellas on rainy days. They waxed (给……打蜡) their paper umbrellas so that they could be used when it was raining.
The word “umbrella” comes from the Latin word, umbra. It means shade (背阴). Starting in the 16th century, the umbrella became popular in the Western world, especially in northern Europe, where it often rains. At first, people thought that the umbrella was only suitable for women.
Then a famous English traveler, Jonas Hanway (1712-1786), carried and used an umbrella in England for thirty years. Because of him, men began to use umbrellas.
In Europe, early umbrellas were made of wood and covered with canvas (帆布).
People used very hard wood to make umbrella handles. In 1852, Samuel Fox invented a new kind of umbrella with ribs (伞骨) made of steel.
Samuel also started a company called English Steels Company. After that, compact collapsible (可叠) umbrellas were the next important step in umbrella production.

(23-24九年级上·江苏南通·期末)Face-to-face with a mother who doesn’t immediately praise every gift, my children have learned to be very careful in choosing gifts. But a couple of weeks ago, they came together to give me a gift that really blew me away.
For years now, I’ve been wanting to sell our house where my children grew up. But there are the funny little love hearts they drew just near their beds. The attic (阁楼) is full of the old clothes they couldn’t wear. The high shelves still have lots of novels for children, like The Night Before Christmas and The Muddle-Headed Wombat.
But those are not the reasons for being sad about leaving this house. There is much more to tie me to the home where I brought up our kids. In the front room, there is a wall. On that wall are hundreds of pencil marks, names and dates. They recorded the way the children grew.
Of all the objects, all the memories, it’s this one place in our home that makes it hard for me to leave. Over dinner, over the years, I’ve talked about how much I would hate leaving that wall, even though the last marks were made ten years ago when my kids stopped growing. So one day, while I was at work, my children decided to do something about the wall. Here was a chance to remove the last traces (痕迹) of their babyhood, but they didn’t do that. Instead, they hired Jack, a professional photographer, to come to our house to take photos of the pencil marks, names and dates and then changed them into one photo.
At last the gift made its way to me, one meaningful photo. Representing love and growth, it’s a gift that I will cherish forever.
41.When did the mother get the surprising gift?
42.What is the attic filled with?

(23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)Later the trader Haley and his slaves (黑奴) started their journey on the Ohio River on a steamboat, the La Belle Riviere. It was crowded with people on the deck.
One day, Haley went on business at a small town. Later the trader returned with a black woman. She had a baby in her arms. She was smiling and wearing nice clothes with a large box.
As the La Belle Riviere started sailing, the woman sat down with her baby. Haley said something to her. She became worried. “I don’t believe it.” Uncle Tom heard her say.
“Look here!” said Haley, showing her a document. “This says your master sold you. Your name is Lucy, isn’t it?”
“He told me that I was going down to Louisville for a job as cook at the same restaurant where my husband works,” said the woman. Then she became quiet, sat on her box, turned her back to the land and stared at the river.
At Louisville, when Lucy got up to the side of the steamboat, hoping to see her husband, a man took her baby and got off— he paid 45 dollars for the baby. When they left Louisville, Lucy returned to her seat and found her baby was missing.
“Lucy,” said the trader, “you couldn’t take your child down south. I sold him to a very good family that will take care of him better than you.”
Lucy sat down. She looked calm.
“I know it’s hard, at first, Lucy,” he started, “but you’re a clever lady and you’ll understand.”
“Master, please don’t talk to me now,” said the woman.
Uncle Tom went to sit with Lucy, and tried to comfort her, but she didn’t want to listen.
Night came and everybody went to sleep, but something woke Tom up at midnight. He saw something move quickly to the side of the boat. And he heard a splash (落水声) in the water. He got up and saw that Lucy, wasn’t there.

(23-24九年级上·湖南长沙·期末)“Five, four, three, two, one, blast off.” At 0:23 on October 16, 2021, China launched (发送) the manned (载人的) spaceship Shenzhou-13, sending three astronauts to its Tiangong space station. About 6.5 hours after the launch, the spaceship docked (对接) with the Tianhe core module of the station.
The three-person team is the second crew (工作组) to have entered Tiangong. The team is led by China’s first space walker Zhai Zhigang. The other two astronauts are Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu. They lived and worked together at the station for six months. This was China’s longest-ever manned mission.
During their six-month stay, the crew carried out a number of tasks. For example, they needed to do two to three spacewalks to fix equipment in preparation for future construction work. Wang Yaping, the first Chinese woman to perform spacewalk, said, “Apart from the tasks, we also hope to do more space science education. This will bring space closer to the general public. As a result, they will learn more about the astronauts ‘life in space’.”

(23-24九年级上·山东枣庄·期末)September is a big month for students in China since the new term begins from now on. In ancient China, the school entrance ceremony (入学典礼) was one of the most important ceremonies.
Children began school between the ages of 4-7 in ancient China. Since there was no certain time to begin a new term at that time, the most important thing for parents was to choose a lucky day for their children to enter school. Next, parents would prepare some school things for their children, including desks, chairs and four treasures of the study.
In ancient times, teachers were usually very knowledgeable local persons. Parents would prepare many gifts, and then write a letter of invitation to ask a knowledgeable man to be their children’s teacher.
On the day their children entered school, parents would take them to take part in the First Writing Ceremony. Before that, children would kowtow (叩头) to the statue of Confucius (孔子像) 9 times and then to their teacher 3 times to show their deep respect (尊敬). During the ceremony, the teacher would put a red point on the students’ forehead (前额) as it meant opening the wisdom eye. Children would also ring a certain bell to start a new term. After that, they could finally sit down in their seats and begin to study. The First Writing Ceremony was a very important ceremony for every student.
Every day, students would arrive at school earlier than their teacher, and kowtow to the statue of Confucius, and then go back to the seats. Usually the teacher would give every student a new name, which was used for future Imperial Examination (科举考试).
Today, some schools are starting to hold an entrance ceremony like they did in ancient times. Students put on traditional costumes and bow to the statue of Confucius and their teachers. This means that from this moment, they take a step in the lifelong journey of learning.

(23-24九年级上·广东云浮·期末)Long time ago, people from other cultures used their hands to eat food, while the ancient Chinese invented chopsticks to keep their hands clean. Early chopsticks were used mainly for cooking until 400 A.D.when people began eating with chopsticks.
We don’t know exactly when chopsticks were invented. There’s a research showing that they didn’t come into wide use until about 300 B.C. Chinese thinker Confucius was an important person in the history of chopsticks, because he thought peace would not appear if people used knives during a meal.
The “no-knives-on-the-table” rule led to a big change in Chinese cooking. Food had to be cut into small pieces. This was the birth of Chinese cooking and it has made Chinese food popular around the world.
However, many Westerners find it difficult to use chopsticks. Eric, a foreign teacher, had the experience of learning to use chopsticks. “I need to hold them properly to be able to put the food carefully into my mouth.” Eric’s Chinese friends taught him patiently, but it still took him months to learn this skill. “But it’s worth learning. I have learned a lot from this experience,” Eric said.
Cultures can often be understood through food. For Chinese, food doesn’t just provide energy. It also brings happiness. And chopsticks also mean a lot. As a good example of Chinese culture, they show the Chinese wisdom (智慧).
61.Why did the ancient Chinese invent chopsticks?
62.Who thought peace would not appear if people used knives during a meal?
63.What led to a big change in Chinese cooking?
64.How do many Westerners feel about using chopsticks?

(23-24九年级上·山东临沂·期末)Imagine you are walking through deep snow. As you walk, you leave footprints where you’ve been. That’s what happens when using technology, such as computers, mobile phones and tablets. You leave your digital footprint and it will never disappear.
Here are reasons why your digital footprint should matter to you.
How people see you
Of course, you have nothing to hide, but if people get information about you, they might judge you from the information you have left online. For example, you make a bad joke online. Years later, it's found by the university you are applying to, and they don’t think it’s funny. Maybe they decide you are not the “right” kind of person for them.
Your private information
Not everything can be shared with everyone. For example, you might share your school reports with your parents, but keep them secret to your e-friends. If you share them on the Internet, they will not be a secret anymore. Therefore, to protect your privacy (隐私), remember to put out less information online.
Keeping your money safe
There are plenty of people looking at information about you, and some of them want to steal from you. So you shouldn’t write bank details, card numbers or passwords in emails or text messages.
Overall, the message is: No one can go online without leaving his digital footprint—but with care, you can control it.
66.When do you leave digital footprint?
67.How many reasons are mentioned in the passage?
68.What should you do to protect your privacy?
69.What shouldn’t be written in emails or text messages?
70.How can you go online safely?

(23-24九年级上·广东佛山·期末)Plastic pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems all over the world. Many countries are looking for ways to solve the problem. On November 7, 2022, China started a “Bamboo instead of Plastic” project with the International Bamboo Organization. It will hopefully reduce plastic pollution.
Bamboo is a plant of great value, such as cleaning air and preventing soil going away. Unlike trees which usually need a long time to fully grow, bamboo can be put into use in 3 to 5 years. As long as it is protected well, bamboo can be cut every year and doesn’t have to be replanted. Bamboo can be used to make different kinds of products. These products can take the place of plastic products in many ways. And the cost of these products are usually quite low compared to the plastic ones.
China is one of the countries with plenty of bamboo in the world. The Chinese are a pioneer in the use of bamboo. Zhejiang Province has set up companies to produce and develop bamboo products. Many of them have been sold to over 100 countries. China is also sharing its technology to help India and Japan, the countries which are rich in bamboo. It is hoped that countries around the world will work together for global green development.
71.When did China start the “Bamboo instead of Plastic” project?
72.Why did China start the project?
73.How long does it take bamboo to fully grow?
74.What can bamboo products take the place of?
75.Which countries is China sharing its technology with?

Instead, they hired Jack, a professional photographer, to come to our house to take photos of the pencil marks, names and dates and then changed them into one photo.
