There are so many different types of comedy that we aren’t familiar with. Which is funny?
Anecdotes
This form of comedy conveys a true-to-life aspect in the narration of stories, which involve a person or an incident that is worth telling with an end that is amusing. They aren’t really jokes but a way of showing something important as part of the story that is being told.
Blend Words
This form of being humorous is when a comedian or an actor is able to create a new term by combining two words into one. We’re aware of blend words, say, twirl (twist + wiggle) a brunch (breakfast + lunch). But what about those that are creatively made up at will? These unique blends of words are what comedians come up with to tickle your funny bone.
Blunders
This kind of comedy is where the comedian or actor is seen as making a fool of himself to give way to humorous moments. Tripping over oneself and being ridiculous around people are common characteristics of this kind of comedy. This form of humor is also known as “slapstick” comedy.
Irony
Irony is a trope(修辞) that involves something inharmonious between what is expected and what occurs and therefore is a popular type of humor. Irony is described through words or actions to express something completely different from the usual meaning.
Stand-Up Comedy
Stand-up comedy involves a comedian standing up in front of a crowd and amusing them with jokes and funny stories. Well-known stand-up comedians are Benny Hill, Ellen DeGeneres, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman and so on.

(2024-2025学年高一上·广东惠州·期中)If you’re looking for inspiration(鼓舞) to get healthy and stay active, look no further than Edna Giordano.
Edna, who lives in Canada, has become famous for the fitness level she maintains at age 91. The mom of five, grandmother of twenty-one and great-grandmother of four still drives now. “I’ve always had a busy lifestyle because, let’s face it, with that many children, you have to be busy,” Edna said. “So, I never really thought about it. That’s just the way I live.” She said she only really began to focus on her fitness in her sixties, when she was forced to retire from her job at a local hospital. She had to face the fact that she was 60.
To keep herself busy, Edna began gardening again that she had to give up due to her busy work. She said she also started going to the gym in her 60s, which she still does every other day. “I have to keep my feet to the fire because it’s cold in the morning in winter, and when it’s snowy or icy out there, I don’t really feel like going outside,” she said. “But I make myself do it and mark it on the calendar. So I cannot take any shortcuts.”
Edna said she focused on walking at the gym for her heart health and also included lots of weight lifting in her schedule to keep her bone strength. “When in the gym, I don’t try to break any records or compete with anyone else,” Edna said. “I only push myself to do better all the time, and I only compete with myself.”
When it came to her age, Edna said the people at the gym didn’t realize she’s 91. She prefers it that way, because when people do realize she’s in her 90s, they’ll surely demand to help her. “I know them well. But I don’t really want help,” said Edna. “It’s funny to say that, but I like to be independent.”

(2024-2025学年高一上·河南·期中)Spanish scientist Pilar Bosch has found a way to use bacteria (细菌) to repair 18th-century paintings. Bosch, a microbiologist, said that she got the idea for the method while considering possibilities for a paper toward her doctoral degree. During this process, she discovered someone else’s paper that suggested bacteria can be used to repair artworks.
At around the same time, Bosch learned that her mother, Pilar Roig, was struggling to find a good method for repairing 18th-century paintings. The paintings, by Spanish artist Antonio Palomino, sat in Santos Juanes—one of the oldest churches in the city of Valencia. Pilar Roig noted how difficult the repair process at the church was. One reason was the glue(胶水) used to remove the paintings from the walls in the 1960s. The glue was nearly impossible to remove completely.
“My mother had a very difficult problem to solve and I found a paper about bacteria used to clean paintings on walls in Italy,” Bosch said. Bosch added she decided to write her doctoral paper on the same subject. Today, she gets to work with her mother on the church repair. They are using the bacteria method to remove glue from artworks. The $4.46 million project is being financed by local organizations.
To repair, they feed small amounts of the glue that was made from animal collagen(胶原蛋白) to the bacteria. After a time, the bacteria begin to naturally produce enzymes(酶) to break down the glue. The mother-daughter team then mixes the bacteria with a natural algae-based substance, called a gel(凝胶), and places it onto the paintings. After about three hours, the gel mixture is removed, leaving the paintings glue-free.
Bosch’s mother, now 75, noted that in the past, people working on repairing artworks had to use traditional cleaning methods that took hours and damaged the painting. Bosch is now training other scientists to use a different kind of bacteria to clear walls of painted graffiti.
28. How did Bosch find the way to repair old paintings?
A. Her mother inspired her. B. Her doctor instructed her.
C. She tested it out by many experiments. D. She found it when preparing her paper.
29. What made it difficult to repair the old paintings?
A. Not having enough money. B. The history of the churches.
C. The glue that was once used. D. Experience of past failures.
30. What is paragraph 4 centered on?
A. The process of cleaning the paintings.
B. The necessity of repaıring the paintings.
C. The challenges facing the mother-daughter team.
D. The materials that are used to clean the paintings.
31. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. Bacteria Removal Process Is Widely Used in Spain.
B. Spanish Scientist Uses Bacteria to Repair Artworks.
C. Old Artworks Are Likely to Be Repaired with Bacteria.
D. Spanish Mother-Daughter Team Discovered A Painting.

Universities spent the late 1990s and early 2000s ensuring students could attach documents to email, fill out spreadsheets and perform other basic computer skills. But the information age has led to a major change, with a new focus on digital or media literacy(素养) for incoming students.
Florida State University (FSU) joins a small but growing number of universities adding the requirement. Since last year, FSU has required incoming students to complete a digital-literacy course even as it calls off the familiar computer ability requirement. Digital literacy is closer to what has often been referred to as media literacy with a focus on understanding and recognizing correct online news sources, misinformation, opinions and advertising.
The ongoing influence of social media, concerns about purposely false news stories and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) have added urgency to the effort. In a 2019 study, almost every high school student was unable to differentiate between right and fake(虚假的) news articles. We don’t expect somehow that the population will improve in that regard in only four years.
The structure of a new digital-literacy requirement depends on the university. For FSU, the requirement is dependent upon the major. For example, a digital-literacy requirement for a journalism major would require different courses from a biology major. This is for all the students and all the majors and it’s going to be a challenge.
In addition to the new requirements, several universities have digital-literacy courses, and a few created majors for the topic. Arizona State University offers a digital-media literacy undergraduate degree, while Indiana Wesleyan University has a master’s degree in technology and digital literacy in education.
Universities do face challenges putting digital-literacy courses into practice, including finding professionals in the fast-changing subject while students often consider themselves to be experts. There is also the potential disadvantage of having another graduation requirement. While literacy courses do improve literacy, such courses are not a perfect fix. A single class on digital literacy doesn’t necessarily make you literate.
32. What is the benefit of media literacy for college students?
A. Keeping them far away from social media.
B. Making them well informed of achievements in AI.
C. Leading them to master more useful basic computer skills.
D. Enabling them to tell whether online information is true or not.
33. What is the author’s attitude to media literacy of today’s students?
A. Optimistic. B. Unclear. C. Worried. D. Uncaring.
34. What makes it hard for universities to carry out the digital-literacy requirement?
A. Students don’t have proper digital devices. B. Its structure depends on the university.
C. Universities have some financial problems. D. No professor is willing to teach it.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Digital or Media Literacy B. Colleges’ New Requirement
C. Challenges from Artificial Intelligence D. Graduation Requirements of Universities

Already Perfect
Each one of us struggles with self-worth to some degree. I spent much of my time attempting to achieve perfection in every aspect of my life. What I didn’t realize was that in my efforts to be perfect, I almost lost my life.
During my childhood, I wanted everyone’s praise and acceptance. After I graduated from high school, my struggles with self-worth increased. I began to put pressure on myself to succeed in the adult world. Meanwhile, I wasn’t feeling very confident and successful. I started to believe that my difficulties and “failures” in life were caused by my weight. I had always been a thin-to-average sized person. Suddenly, I was convinced that I was overweight. In my mind, I was FAT!
Slowly, I began to control my food by trying to diet, but nothing seemed to work. I continued to reduce what I ate each day and told myself that I would succeed, and in turn, I felt good about myself.
People around me began to notice my weight loss. At first, they weren’t alarmed; maybe some were even envious. But then the comments showed some concern. “You’re losing too much weight.” “Elisa, you’re so thin.” “You look sick.” “You’ll die if you keep this up.” All their words only made me believe that I was on the right path, getting closer to “perfection.”
My poor nutrition(营养) began to cause me to lose sleep. I found it hard to concentrate on my work or to focus on anything for a long time. I was pushing myself harder and harder at the gym, struggling to burn fat. My parents tried to stop me but I disagreed that I had a problem. None of my clothes fit, and it was hard to buy any, since I had become too thin!
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest._____________________

【原文】
NANJING-China’s first solar satellite, ASO-S, is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2022, marking the country’s first-ever mission to observe the sun.
The satellite will operate in an orbit above Earth to maintain a view of the sun 24 hours a day. It is expected to be in orbit for at least 4 years, according to Gan Weiqun, a researcher from the project. The sun is the only fixed star that can be studied in detail by humans. The vast majority of its radiation is blocked by Earth’s atmosphere. Only by sending satellites into space can a complete picture of the sun be presented for further studies.
The satellite will also realize its potential in space weather forecasting. Sun activities can be detected at least 40 hours ahead of their arrival by the satellite. This can help with early warnings of damage to Earth’s environment.
Since the 1960s, more than 70 satellites related to solar observation have been launched globally. The ASO-S is expected to fill China’s gap in the field, according to Gan.

Edna said she focused on walking at the gym for her heart health and also included lots of weight lifting in her schedule to keep her bone strength. “When in the gym, I don’t try to break any records or compete with anyone else,” Edna said. “I only push myself to do better all the time, and I only compete with myself.”

【答案】32. D 33. C 34. B 35. B

Dear Lily,
I’m sorry to learn that you are upset about being overweight recently. Here’re some tips for you.
In my opinion, you should stop taking weight-loss pills in no time because they’ll attack the function of your immune system within your body. Many sorts of ways to keep fit can be satisfying. For example, jogging and gym are considered as effective and healthy ways to become slim. As for diet, you’d better get a proper recipe for it.

第二节(满分20分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest._____________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When I lay on the hospital bed, I began to rethink what I did to my body.____________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest. I tried to relax, but I couldn’t. The beating became so rapid and so strong that I could no longer breathe. Really scared and ill, I felt I was going to die. Knowing that help was needed, I stood up, went towards the door, and immediately fell down, letting out a cry of pain. Awakened by the unusual sound, my parents came in to see what had happened. Shocked and worried, they rushed me to the hospital. It took doctors and nurses several hours to bring me back to life.
When I lay on the hospital bed, I began to rethink what I did to my body. I decided to stop my foolish way of losing weight and pursuing perfection. Instead, I must be confident of myself and stay committed to being healthy. I now use my intelligence, talents and acts of kindness to express myself. This is true beauty, and it has nothing to do with the size of my body. With my experience of trying to be “perfect” on the outside, I had forgotten who I was on the inside. What I know now is that we are — each and every one of us — already perfect.
①试图做:try to do/attempt to do
②决定做:decide to do/be determined to do
③表达:express/convey
情绪类
①感到害怕的:be scared/be panic-stricken
