She thinks she is lucky to live in such a great era when young people can fulfill their aspirations, and the country strongly supports the nature conservation. According to a new study, eating fruits in middle age could also help to reduce the chances of developing depression (抑郁) later in life though we should pay attention to the amount of fruits we eat. Researchers from China and Singapore wanted to find out more about whether eating fruits and vegetables could have an effect on our mental health. They looked at more than 13,700 Chinese adults who were living in Singapore. The study period began between 1993 and 1998 when the Chinese adults were aged between 45 and 74. Everyone was asked about the fruits and vegetables they liked to eat.14 fruits and 25 types of vegetables were included in the questionnaire (问卷). The Chinese adults were followed for an average of almost 20 years. By this time, they were aged between 61 and 96. They were asked to complete a questionnaire that could decide whether older people develop depression. At the end of the study period, almost 3,200 people had the feeling of depression. The researchers found that higher consumption of fruits during middle age was connected with a lower probability of developing depression in late life. Those who ate the most fruits were 29% less likely to develop depression compared to those who ate the least. However, they didn’t find any connection between eating vegetables and developing depression. It was suggested that the reason for this may be that fruits are usually eaten raw, while vegetables are often cooked. Cooking vegetables might limit the “protective effects” of the nutrients (营养物) in the foods, the researchers suggested, although they said more research was needed. All types of fruits were found to have an effect, especially oranges, bananas, papayas and watermelons. 24.How is the study conducted? A.By comparing fruits to vegetables. B.By filling in the questionnaire in a lab. C.By talking with people living in China. D.By tracking the subjects for a long time. 25.What does the underlined word “consumption” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Contact. B.Eating. C.Advancement. D.Concentration. 26.What do we know about the influence of vegetables on depression? A.Researchers have got no proof. B.They prove to be better than fruits. C.They are the key to treating depression. D.Cooking them surely influences mental health. 27.What might be talked about in the following paragraph? A.Why fruits could decrease depression. B.The correct methods of cooking vegetables. C.Different fruits recommended by the doctor. D.How vegetables damage nutrients in the foods. 【答案】24.D 25.B 26.A 27.A 【导语】本文是说明文。 根据第二段“They looked at more than 13,700 Chinese adults who were living in Singapore. The study period began between 1993 and 1998 when the Chinese adults were aged between 45 and 74. Everyone was asked about the fruits and vegetables they liked to eat.14 fruits and 25 types of vegetables were included in the questionnaire (问卷).(他们调查了超过13700名居住在新加坡的中国成年人。研究开始于1993年至1998年,当时中国成年人的年龄在45岁至74岁之间。每个人都被问及他们喜欢吃的水果和蔬菜。调查问卷包括14种水果和25种蔬菜)”可知,这项研究是通过长时间跟踪研究对象进行的。故选D项。 25.词句猜测题。根据后文“Those who ate the most fruits were 29% less likely to develop depression compared to those who ate the least.(与吃最少水果的人相比,吃最多水果的人患抑郁症的可能性要低29%)”可知,多吃水果的人患抑郁症的可能性要低29%,所以中年时多吃水果与晚年患抑郁症的可能性较低有关,推知consumption应是“摄入,食用”之意,和B项意思相近。故选B项。 26. 根据第四段“However, they didn’t find any connection between eating vegetables and developing depression.(然而,他们并没有发现吃蔬菜和患抑郁症之间有任何联系)”以及第五段“It was suggested that the reason for this may be that fruits are usually eaten raw, while vegetables are often cooked. Cooking vegetables might limit the “protective effects” of the nutrients (营养物) in the foods, the researchers suggested, although they said more research was needed.(有人认为,造成这种现象的原因可能是水果通常是生吃的,而蔬菜通常是煮熟的。研究人员表示,烹饪蔬菜可能会限制食物中营养物质的“保护作用”,尽管他们表示还需要更多的研究)”可知,研究人员表示并没有发现吃蔬菜和患抑郁症之间有任何联系,但是还需要更多的研究,所以他们还没有证据。故选A项。 27. 故选A项。 C Tom Turcich, an adventurer from New Jersey, returned to his hometown with his dog, Savannah, after traveling around the world for seven years. They were greeted by a huge homecoming celebration in Haddon Township with Turcich officially becoming the 10th person on record to walk around the world, and Savannah the first dog to do so. While he was thrilled to have won the honour, Turcich stressed that this was never really his goal. The journey had seen the pair walk across 38 countries, including Chile, Panama and Kazakhstan, together. Turcich remained extremely happy for the next three months as he took in his unbelievable achievement. “Crossing the finish line felt like paradise,” he said. “And everything was perfect.” However, as that real high began to fade (消退), he faced a difficult reality. “Life goes on,” he noted, realizing how hard it was to adjust to life without the focus of his journey. “I had this realization when I was walking to the park with Savannah,” he said. “This thing that had been my life forever was over. But then life kept going on, and you can just live life without this greater purpose. And then it became really difficult.” Things came to a head when he moved to Seattle with Savannah. Since completing the challenge, he’s been contacted (联系) by others who hope to achieve the same thing. So Turcich wrote the book The World Walk about his experiences during the amazing trip. Turcich said his main goal was to encourage people to be a little more curious about places and a little more trusting of the world. “I just create a book that readers would enjoy,” he added. “Just tell a good story about a man and his dog walking around the world.” 28.What can be learned about Turcich and his dog? A.They got first pick of the prizes. B.They remained in Chile for nine months. C.They set a record on a world tour. D.They were the first to journey to Haddon. 29.What does the underlined word “thrilled” in paragraph 1 mean? A.Afraid. B.Excited. C.Unsure. D.Helpful. 30.How did Turcich feel when the happiness of success faded? A.Promising. B.Overproud. C.Purposeless. D.Undervalued. 31.Why did Turcich write the book? A.To encourage others to explore the world. B.To tell people how to create fun stories. C.To show the hardships he faced in the trip. D.To share useful tips on raising cute dogs. 根据第一段中“They were greeted by a huge homecoming celebration in Haddon Township with Turcich officially becoming the 10th person on record to walk around the world, and Savannah the first dog to do so. (他们在Haddon镇受到了盛大的回家庆祝活动的欢迎,Turcich正式成为有记录的第10个环游世界的人,而Savannah则是第一只做到这一点的狗)”可知,Turcich和他的小狗创造了环游世界的纪录。故选C项。 29.词句猜测题。根据画线词后第二段中“Turcich remained extremely happy for the next three months as he took in his unbelievable achievement. (在接下来的三个月里,Turcich仍然非常高兴,因为他取得了令人难以置信的成就)”可知,因为这项成就,Turcich高兴的心情维持了三个月。由此可知,当时得到这个荣誉的时候,他非常兴奋激动,画线词与Excited“兴奋的”的意思最接近。故选B项。 30.推理判断题。根据第三段中“However, as that real high began to fade (消退), he faced a difficult reality. (然而,当那种真正的兴奋开始消退时,他面临着一个艰难的现实)”和“This thing that had been my life forever was over. But then life kept going on, and you can just live life without this greater purpose. And then it became really difficult. (我生命中一直存在的东西结束了。但是生活还在继续,你只能过着没有这个更大的目标的生活。然后就变得非常困难了)”可知,在喜悦消退之后,Turcich不得不面对没有更大的目标的生活,日子变得困难。由此可知,他丧失了目标,感到有些迷茫。故选C项。 31.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Turcich said his main goal was to encourage people to be a little more curious about places and a little more trusting of the world. (Turcich说,他的主要目的是鼓励人们对地方多一点好奇,对世界多一点信任)”可知,Turcich写书是为了鼓励人们积极探索世界。故选A项。 D Lack of sleep has been linked with some health problems. As a result, the National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults receive at least seven hours of shut-eye each night. Now, new research offers another reason to focus on nightly rest. According to results from Stockholm University, a few nights of fitful sleep can make you feel years older than you really are, while sleep with a consistent pattern (持续的模式) in the same time and space can have the opposite effect, making you feel younger. “Sleep has a main effect on how old you feel, and it’s not only your long-term sleep patterns,” says Balter, a co-author of the study. “Even when you only sleep less for two nights, that has a real effect on how you feel.” This feeling is known as “subjective (主观的) age”. Previous studies have found that how old a person feels, both physically and mentally, may have a real effect on health and lifetime. In the research, Balter and another sleep expert, John, first asked 429 people questions to check their past month of sleep. They found that with each day of bad sleep the average person had got in the past month, their “subjective age” increased by nearly three months. And those who had experienced no days of bad sleep said they felt an average of six years younger than their true age. Next, they ran an experiment in which 186 volunteers experienced two consistent nights of bad sleep — a sleep limited to four hours per night, or two consistent nights of good sleep — nine hours of enough sleep. Then, each volunteer described their “subjective age”. After two nights of limited sleep, the volunteers reported feeling an average of 4.4 years older than their true age, while those with two nights of enough sleep felt an average of three months younger. “If you protect your sleep, you can feel younger,” Balter says. “We know those who feel younger than their actual age live healthier and longer, so try to develop good sleep habits.” 32.What does the underlined word “fitful” in paragraph 1 mean? A.Irregular. B.Unexpected. C.Enough. D.Proper. 33.What is the effect of sleeping less for two nights according to Balter? A.It improves people’s emotions. B.It makes people feel much older. C.It changes long-term sleep patterns. D.It has no effect on “subjective age” . 34.How did Balter and John carry on their research into sleep? A.By making assumptions. B.By drawing comparisons. C.By asking other experts. D.By checking historical data. 35.What does Balter want to do in the last paragraph? A.Make a suggestion. B.Make a complaint. C.Show his actual age. D.Show his personal habit. 【答案】32.A 33.B 34.B 35.A 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中的“According to results from Stockholm University, a few nights of fitful sleep can make you feel years older than you really are, while sleep with a consistent pattern (持续的模式) in the same time and space can have the opposite effect, making you feel younger.(根据斯德哥尔摩大学的研究结果,几晚____的睡眠会让你感觉比实际年龄老几岁,而在相同的时间和空间内保持连续的睡眠模式则会产生相反的效果,让你感觉更年轻。)” 故选A项。 33. 根据第二段中的“‘Sleep has a main effect on how old you feel, and it’s not only your long-term sleep patterns,’ says Balter, a co-author of the study. ‘Even when you only sleep less for two nights, that has a real effect on how you feel.’(‘睡眠对你感觉多老有主要影响,而且不仅仅是你的长期睡眠模式,’该研究的共同作者Balter说。‘即使你只少睡了两晚,那也会对你感觉如何产生真正的影响。’)”可知,Balter认为只少睡了两晚,也会对你感觉如何产生真正的影响,即让人感觉更老。故选B项。 34.细节理解题。根据第三段第一句“In the research, Balter and another sleep expert, John, first asked 429 people questions to check their past month of sleep.(在这项研究中,Balter和另一位睡眠专家John首先向429人提出问题,以检查他们过去一个月的睡眠情况。)”和最后一句“After two nights of limited sleep, the volunteers reported feeling an average of 4.4 years older than their true age, while those with two nights of enough sleep felt an average of three months younger.(在连续两个晚上睡眠不足后,志愿者报告说他们的平均主观年龄比实际年龄大4.4岁,而那些连续两个晚上睡眠充足的人则平均年轻了三个月。)” 根据最后一段“‘If you protect your sleep, you can feel younger,’ Balter says. ‘We know those who feel younger than their actual age live healthier and longer, so try to develop good sleep habits.’(‘如果你保护好自己的睡眠,你会感觉更年轻,’Balter说。‘我们知道那些比实际年龄感觉更年轻的人活得更健康、更长久,所以试着养成良好的睡眠习惯。’)”可知,Balter在最后一段想给人们提建议,即保护好睡眠,养成良好的睡眠习惯。故选A项。 The History of Tahitian Dance In the early age of Tahitian dance, performances were symbolic and important, not just an art form. 36 For example, there was a dance that was performed to greet guests at an official ceremony. Other dances were designed for special ceremonies. Some dances were more personal, and people danced to challenge an opponent. 37 One of the most popular dance styles is Ote’a, which is performed by a large group of dancers. Another dance called a hivinau is usually performed as the last dance of a ceremony. It involves a group of dancers led by one dancer who may make up some movements. Tahitian dance is performed to the accompaniment (伴随) of traditional music. Drums feature heavily in Tahitian music. Dance music is strongly rhythmic and powerful. Besides, nose flutes (鼻笛), also called vivo, are made from bamboo tubes with holes carved into them, and they are played by breathing out of the nose and into the flute. 38 It isn’t certain when or how Tahitian dance originally developed. It is a practice that dates back to ancient Tahitian people and their Maori ancestors. Dance was an important and popular cultural expression in Tahiti. 39 At that time, early British colonists (殖民者) who came to Tahiti found traditional Tahitian dance annoying and offensive. Therefore, they abolished most forms of dance in Tahiti. Tahitian dance was illegal in Tahiti until the early 20th century. Traditional costumes were not used during this period, and only the hands, feet and face of the dancer could be exposed. 40 Although it had been influenced by European presence and the cultural changes in Tahiti, Tahitian dance has regained its importance as a unique expression of Tahitian culture and history. A.However, it met with a problem during the 1800s. B.Nowadays, there are different styles of Tahitian dance. C.Native Tahitians had different dances for different purposes. D.In the 1950s, a lot of effort was made to preserve the traditional dance. E.While mastering Tahitian dance is challenging, anyone can learn the basic moves. F.These instruments have been used to accompany Tahitian dance throughout history. G.The popularity of Tahitian dance has transformed it into a privileged tool for tourism promotion. 36.前文“In the early age of Tahitian dance, performances were symbolic and important, not just an art form. (在塔希提舞蹈的早期,表演不仅是一种艺术形式,而且具有象征意义和重要意义)”指出早期的塔希提舞蹈不仅起到艺术表演的作用,后文“For example, there was a dance that was performed to greet guests at an official ceremony. Other dances were designed for special ceremonies. Some dances were more personal, and people danced to challenge an opponent. 根据后文“One of the most popular dance styles is Ote’a, which is performed by a large group of dancers. Another dance called a hivinau is usually performed as the last dance of a ceremony. (最受欢迎的舞蹈风格之一是Ote’a,由一大群舞者表演。另一种舞蹈称为hivinau,通常作为仪式的最后一支舞蹈表演)”可知,本段主要介绍不同风格的塔希提舞蹈,因此B项“Nowadays, there are different styles of Tahitian dance. (如今,塔希提舞蹈有不同的风格)”符合语境,指出塔希提舞蹈风格多样,契合段落内容。故选B。 38.前文“Drums feature heavily in Tahitian music. Dance music is strongly rhythmic and powerful. Besides, nose flutes (鼻笛), also called vivo, are made from bamboo tubes with holes carved into them, and they are played by breathing out of the nose and into the flute. (鼓在塔希提音乐中占有重要地位。舞曲有强烈的节奏感和力量。此外,鼻笛,也叫vivo,是由竹管制成的,在竹管上打洞,通过鼻子向笛子里呼气来演奏)”主要介绍了塔希提音乐中伴奏的乐器:鼓和鼻笛,因此F项“These instruments have been used to accompany Tahitian dance throughout history. (这些乐器在历史上一直被用来为塔希提舞蹈伴奏)”符合语境,指出这些乐器常用于为塔希提舞蹈伴奏,承接前文,其中的These instruments指代前文的Drums和nose flutes。故选F。 39.前文“It is a practice that dates back to ancient Tahitian people and their Maori ancestors. Dance was an important and popular cultural expression in Tahiti. (这种做法可以追溯到古老的塔希提人和他们的毛利人祖先。舞蹈是塔希提重要而流行的文化表现形式)”追溯塔希提舞蹈的历史起源,指出当时它很重要,后文“At that time, early British colonists (殖民者) who came to Tahiti found traditional Tahitian dance annoying and offensive. Therefore, they abolished most forms of dance in Tahiti. (当时,早期来到塔希提岛的英国殖民者发现传统的塔希提舞蹈令人讨厌和反感。因此,他们废除了塔希提岛的大多数舞蹈形式)”介绍后来塔希提舞蹈被英国殖民者废除了,因此A项“However, it met with a problem during the 1800s. (然而,它在19世纪遇到了一个问题)”符合语境,指出塔希提舞蹈遇到困境,和前文构成转折,后文是对其中problem的具体说明。故选A。 40.前文“Tahitian dance was illegal in Tahiti until the early 20th century. Traditional costumes were not used during this period, and only the hands, feet and face of the dancer could be exposed. (直到20世纪初,塔希提舞蹈在塔希提都是非法的。在这一时期不使用传统服装,只有舞者的手、脚和脸可以暴露出来)”表明20世纪初塔希提舞蹈表演受到很多限制,后文“Although it had been influenced by European presence and the cultural changes in Tahiti, Tahitian dance has regained its importance as a unique expression of Tahitian culture and history. My dad is the best horseshoe pitcher (投手) in Webly County, and I aim to be the same. It must have been a wonder because there were things that I had never come across before,” he shared in the video. The cat had a serious cut under its arm and was unable to move. “It seemed that he was ready to lay there until he passed away from the wound,” Spencer recalled. Eager to help, Spencer phoned several places, but none were willing to take the cat in. His determination paid off when he reached out to Edgar and Ivy’s Cat Shelter. The shelter, specializing in the care of injured, hurt, and abused cats, agreed to take the cat in and provide the necessary medical treatment. Anissa Beal, director of Edgar and Ivy’s, said that the shelter was on the edge of closing. It had been struggling due to lack of money, with Beal spending half of her income to keep it running. She had been wishing for a chance to continue her work. C Tom Turcich, an adventurer from New Jersey, returned to his hometown with his dog, Savannah, after traveling around the world for seven years. D Lack of sleep has been linked with some health problems. The History of Tahitian Dance In the early age of Tahitian dance, performances were symbolic and important, not just an art form. Spencer, known for cleaning up unwatched areas across the country and sharing his work on social media, came upon an injured cat while on the job, causing him to support an entire cat shelter (收容所). Spencer was in Corpus Christi, recording his work for his followers, when the event took place. “I accidentally found this yard while heading to another job. It must have been a wonder because there were things that I had never come across before,” he shared in the video. While clearing the overgrown grass, Spencer discovered a seriously injured cat hidden deep in the grass. Learning their situation and moved by their kindness, Spencer decided to start a GoFundMe movement to support the shelter. “He said, ‘Maybe I can get you $10,000 or something.’ And I said, ‘That would be life-changing,’” Beal said. Spencer decided to use the shelter’s treatment of injured cats to raise money. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Spencer took further action to rescue more animals in need. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
