For as long as I can remember, she has been my idol. While working as a judge, she is in pursuit of justice for others. As a mother, friend, and woman, however, she shows a softer side. Her actions show sensitivity, optimism, and kindness unlike any other I have ever known. As an only child, I never received the gift of a sibling (兄弟姐妹) with whom I could share laughs, secrets, or knowing glances from across a room. The older I’ve got, the more I have realized I never needed a sibling, anyway. Back home, my mom and I would wake and have a quick breakfast together, and leave for Jersey City — she is off to work and I went to school. Regardless of cold weather, heavy traffic, or my anxious stomach ache prior to a day of exams, we always had fun. She would tell jokes and we would laugh. With her infectious smile and confident attitude, my mom managed to turn every sad morning of mine into a better day. Now that I am at Rochester, we are separated by nearly 400 miles of sloping highway. I no longer have the chance of looking out a classroom window and seeing her office building standing tall a mile away. Moving away from home was a major shift — and not just because of my new suburban rented room, minimized food options, and much bitter winters. When I am missing my mom especially, I recall the words she told me when I would cry as a young girl: a line from her favorite poem, by author E. E. Cummings. “I carry your heart with me; I carry it in my heart,” she’d smile, wiping away my tears. As I reflect upon that sentence, I can see that there is a piece of my mom with me wherever I go. I guess those 400 miles between the two of us isn’t so distant, after all. 4. What kind of person is the author’s mother? A. She is a strict judge. B. She is a popular poet. C. She is a humorous comedian. D. She is a considerate role model. 5. Why did the author say she never needed a sibling? A. She didn’t like siblings. B. She didn’t want to share a room. C. She was old enough to live alone. D. She was content with her mother’s company. 6. What can we infer about the author’s life at Rochester? A. It is boring. B. It is tough. C. It is unbearable. D. It is unexpected. 7. What is the main idea for the text? A. Fun life of my mother. B. Poems for my mother and me. C. Memory of my separated mother and me. D. Praise for my relationship with my mother. D 5. D 6. B 7. 根据文章第一段“For as long as I can remember, she has been my idol.(从我记事起,她就一直是我的偶像。)”和“Her actions show sensitivity, optimism, and kindness unlike any other I have ever known(她的行为表现出敏感、乐观和善良,这是我所知道的最不同的。)” 根据第三段“Back home, my mom and I would wake and have a quick breakfast together, and leave for Jersey City—she is off to work and I went to school. (回到家,我和妈妈会醒来一起吃早餐,然后去泽西城——她去上班,我去上学。)”和“With her infectious smile and confident attitude, my mom managed to turn every sad morning of mine into a better day.(凭借她富有感染力的微笑和自信的态度,我妈妈设法把我每个悲伤的早晨变成了美好的一天。)” 根据第四段中的“Moving away from home was a major shift- and not just because of my new suburban digs, minimized food options, and much harsher winters.(离开家是一个重大的转变——不仅仅是因为我在郊区的新住所,尽量减少了食物的选择,以及更艰难的冬天。)” 根据文章内容以最后一句“As I reflect upon that sentence, I can see that there is a piece of my mom with me wherever I go. I guess those 400 miles between the two of us isn’t so distant, after all.(当我回想这句话时,我可以看到,无论我走到哪里,都有一个我妈妈的影子和我在一起。我想我们俩之间的400英里毕竟并没有那么远。)”可知本文主要讲的是作者和她妈妈之间的和谐关系,她非常喜欢这种关系并受到这种关系的积极影响。D项“赞美我和妈妈的关系”适合作本文主旨。故选D。 C Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to develop more efficient methods of farming in order to fight global warming. Global warming threatens every aspect of our everyday lives, including crop production. It will reduce the soil moisture (水分), especially in areas close to the equator and greatly affect the crop production. Climate change harms poorer countries that do not have money to import food. The result is food shortage. However, agriculture is not just affected by global warming. Agriculture is part of a vicious cycle in which farming leads to global warming, which in turn destroys agricultural production. The process of clearing land for agriculture results in widespread deforestation and contributes to 40 percent of global methane (甲烷) production. Therefore, to deal with climate change, it is necessary to ensure efficient, environmentally-conscious farming. This is where AI enters the scene. Farmers use AI for methods such as precision agriculture, monitoring crop moisture, soil composition, and temperature in growing areas, and enabling farmers to increase production by learning how to take care of their crops and determine the ideal amount of water to use. Furthermore, this technology may help reduce deforestation by allowing humans to grow food in urban areas. It could be especially beneficial for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, where much of the population lives in cities. However, AI is far from a silver bullet — it could actually contribute to global warming as well. Due to the large amount of data that AI needs to process, training a single AI releases five times the emissions that an average car would give off during its lifetime. Further, securing access to AI on a global scale may pose some challenges. Countries will need experts in the field who can successfully use the technology and Internet connection, neither of which are always readily available. Therefore, there is still a long way for developing countries to take advantage of the benefits of AI. Given these concerns, global leaders must consider the potential costs, and the environmental consequences of data processing before developing AI for use in agriculture. 8. What is the purpose of Paragraph 2? A. To advocate greener farming. B. To show the importance of forestation. C. To promote low-carbon living. D. To analyze impacts of global warming. 9. In which aspect can farmers apply Al in crop production? A. Reducing soil pollution. B. Precision farming. C. Solving the food problem. D. Expanding farmland. 10. What do the underlined words “silver bullet” mean in paragraph 4? A. A big fortune. B. A risky attempt. C. A costly method. D. A perfect solution. 11. What’s the author’s attitude to the use of Al in farming? A. Critical. B. Optimistic. C. Cautious. D. Confident. A 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第二段“Therefore, to deal with climate change, it is necessary to ensure efficient, environmentally-conscious farming.(因此,为了应对气候变化,有必要确保高效、环保的农业。)” 故选A。 根据第三段“Farmers use AI for methods such as precision agriculture, monitoring crop moisture, soil composition, and temperature in growing areas, and enabling farmers to increase production by learning how to take care of their crops and determine the ideal amount of water to use.(农民将人工智能用于精准农业等方法,监测种植区的作物湿度、土壤成分和温度,并使农民能够通过学习如何照顾作物和确定理想的用水量来提高产量。)” 根据倒数第二段中划线部分下文“it could actually contribute to global warming as well(它实际上也可能导致全球变暖)”可知,AI可能也会导致全球变暖,因此它也不是完美的;“ However, AI is far from a silver bullet(然而,人工智能远不是silver bullet)”中的silver bullet的意思是“完美的解决办法”,和a perfect solution意思相近。 根据倒数第二段“However, AI is far from a silver bullet—it could actually contribute to global warming as well.(然而,人工智能远不是灵丹妙药——它实际上也可能导致全球变暖。)”,“Further, securing access to AI on a global scale may pose some challenges.(此外,确保在全球范围内获得人工智能可能会带来一些挑战。)”和最后一段“Given these concerns, global leaders must consider the potential costs, and the environmental consequences of data processing before developing AI for use in agriculture.(鉴于这些担忧,全球领导人在开发用于农业的人工智能之前,必须考虑数据处理的潜在成本和环境后果。)” What will you do if you can’t eat everything bought in the canteen? ____12____According to a survey, what students waste every year could feed over 10 million people. ____13____ According to Xinhua News Agency, the food wasted by Chinese people is about 50 million tons of grain every year, which could feed 200 million people. I was the fastest runner on my team, and I was supposed to make it into the top fifteen. We had been working towards this race for three years. It was everything to me, and it was everything to my dad. He was a runner and was wild with joy by my success in running. He made it to every race, even flying home early from business trips to see me run. I always listened for his voice, which rang above the crowd-telling me to relax my arms, calling out my time. He pushed me. He cheered for me. He believed in me. We spent countless hours on the sandy canals of Arizona. Breathing in the dust of the desert, the blossoms of the orange trees, and the terrible smell of the dairy farm, we made our way across the city. We pounded miles and miles into our running shoes, marking with every step the path to greatness. It was a journey that was just ours. A dream passed on from one generation to the next. Then the big day came. It was hotter than normal - too hot. My throat felt like a field of cotton, cracked with the summer heat, as I waited for the gun to fire. I gazed out at the crowd; dozens of familiar faces from church and school flickered across my view. They had come for me. They were counting on me. I saw my dad set his watch, worry and excitement etched across his face. With the sound of a gunshot, the race began. For the first two and half miles, I felt great. I had never before been so ready for something. The weeks leading up to the race were filled with hard practices and a strict diet. The scorching sun beat upon my back, blinding me with its brilliance. Nothing was going to stop me, though. However, without warning, my strength was running out. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I whispered, “I’m so sorry I disappointed you, Dad.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 However, without warning, my strength was running out. My lungs fought to take in enough air, and my feet transformed into cement bricks. Neck and neck with one of my greatest rivals, I could see the finish line. I had begun the final sprint into glory when my knees buckled and my legs gave way. Nothing I could do would make them hold my weight. They were as weak as jelly. Even though I knew my dreams of victory had been destroyed, I had to finish the race. With all of the strength left in me, I got on my hands and knees and crawled, inch by inch, across the finish line. Shame pulsed through my veins as Dad squatted down and pulled me into his arms. I whispered, “I’m so sorry I disappointed you, Dad.” He gave me a gentle smile and said, “You could never disappoint me. Sometimes these things just happen. All that matters is that you did your best.” Lifting my face, I saw my dad’s eyes, in which I saw the sweat, the time, and the work we had put into our dream. The miles we had run together, all for this race, flashed across my mind. “But we worked so hard. What about our dream” I asked. In that second, the world stood still. He reached over for my hand, holding back his own tears, and said, “Don’t you know that you are my dream come true ” 【解析】 【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,讲述了作者和父亲很期待自己能在高中最后一年的越野赛跑上获得好成绩,不料在比赛过程中,作者突然体力耗尽,虽然作者最后尽力越过终点,但是却没获得好成绩,作者觉得让父亲和大家失望了,父亲却说只要尽力了,就不会失望。 词汇激活 行为类 ①努力争取:fight/struggle ②看见:see/catch sight of ③摧毁:destroy/crush/ruin 情绪类 ①羞愧:shame/embarrassment/humiliation ②失望:disappoint/let down 【点睛】[高分句型1]I had begun the final sprint into glory when my knees buckled and my legs gave way.(when引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2]Lifting my face, I saw my dad’s eyes, in which I saw the sweat, the time, and the work we had put into our dream.(in which引导的非限制性定语从句和省略关系代词引导的限制性定语从句) 1—5 AABAC 6—10 BABCB 11—15 BCABA 16—20 ACBCB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 英语科试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? C Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to develop more efficient methods of farming in order to fight global warming. I was the fastest runner on my team and I was supposed to make it into the top fifteen. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I whispered “I’m so sorry I disappointed you, Dad.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1—5 AABAC 6—10 BABCB 11—15 BCABA 16—20 ACBCB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
