Did you ever dream of traveling all the way over the rainbow(彩虹)? In fact, it’s easier than you think. All you need to do is to buy a plane ticket to Peru(秘鲁). The South American country is home to wonderful natural sights, and one of the most amazing is Rainbow Mountain.
Rainbow Mountain, also called Mountain of Seven Colors, lies in the Andes in Cusco. As its name shows, the mountain has different colors. It attracts(吸引)lots of tourists every year.
But what makes the mountain look like it is painted in yellows, greens, reds, and purples? The reason is the ice that covered the area centuries ago. When it began to melt, the water mixed with minerals(矿物质)in the ground, turning the earth into the many colors you see today.
If you plan your trip to the mountain, you’d better visit it during warmer months when there will be less rain or snow. Rain or snow will make the climbing more difficult and the colors will look duller(更暗淡的). The best time begins in March and lasts nine months, when there will be blue skies and pleasant weather. At the same time, visit it in the morning or during evening hours, either right after sunrise or right before sunset. Very sunny days may prevent you from taking nice photos.
To get to Rainbow Mountain, you should first go to Cusco. From the city, you can take a two-to three-hour car ride to Pitumarca. Then you have to make your way to Qesoyuno to start the journey on foot. Once you arrive at the base(大本营), it’s about a two-or three-hour walk to the top. This really is the best way, but the trip is very challenging. The other important thing to remember is that the mountain sits at a really high elevation(纬度)about 5,200 meters above sea level, so prepare enough water and take your time.
55.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By listing a fact. B.By telling a story.
C.By asking a question. D.By giving an example.
56.What does the underlined word “melt” mean in Chinese?

The Marches’ house was between two large houses. On one side there was an old brown house. On the other side there was a large stone mansion(豪宅). This was the home of old Mr Laurence and his grandson, Laurie. It was a very grand house and the rooms looked very comfortable behind the heavy silk curtains at the windows. But it was a house without life. The Marches’ house was different. It was always busy and full of noise and people.
A few days after the party Jo saw Laurie again. He was standing at an upstairs window in the mansion and looking down at their garden. Beth and Amy were playing in the snow. They were throwing snowballs and having a lot of fun. Laurie’s face was very sad.
“Poor boy!” she thought. He’s all alone. It’s a shame! He needs some friends. She couldn’t stop thinking about him. She wanted to go and see him but how could she go to his house without an invitation?
Then one snowy afternoon, while she was looking out of the window, she saw Mr Laurence. He was getting into his carriage. He was going out. This gave her an idea.
“Laurie is alone in the house,” she thought. “Perhaps he’s looking out of his window.”
She put on her hat and an old coat and took a broom and a shovel from the kitchen.
“What are you going to do, Jo?” asked Meg when she saw her sister in the hall.
“I want to get some exercise,” answered Jo with a smile. “I’m going to clear the garden path.”
Laurie was standing at the window again. He wasn’t looking at her so she threw a snowball to get his attention(注意力). When the snow hit the glass, he turned his head immediately and a big smile changed his pale, sad face.
Jo laughed and shouted, “How are you? Are you ill?” Laurie opened the window and said, “I’m better now, thank you. I had a bad cold and I had to stay inside for a week.”
“I’m sorry,” said Jo. “Are you bored?”
“Yes, very,” he replied.
“Don’t your friends come to visit you?”
“No. But I don’t want to see anybody. Boys are noisy and they give me a headache.
“Girls are quiet.”
“I don’t know any girls.”
“You know us.”
“That’s true! Can you come and visit me?” cried Laurie. “Please!”
“I’m not quiet but I’d like to come,” replied Jo. “But I must ask Mother first.”
She picked up her broom and ran into the house.

There are lots of natural disasters every year. 66
Typhoons(台风)are some of the worst storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean(太平洋)and the South China Sea. Most happen in July, August and September.
How does a typhoon happen? When lots of sea water gets hot in the summer sun, it evaporates(蒸发)into the air. This makes the air hotter. 67 Then cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left. After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind. The wind goes in circles and it keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer the air gets, the quicker the wind moves. And when wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins.
A typhoon has two parts. One is called the “eye”. 68 The other part is the wall of clouds around the eye. Here are the strongest winds and hardest rains.
Typhoons are very dangerous. In November in 2013, Typhoon Haiyan killed 6,000 people in Philippines. 69
What should we do when a typhoon hits?
· Stay inside. 70
· Try to bring all of your things inside. Strong winds could even blow away your bikes!
· Listen to the radio or TV or search on the Internet for important information.
· If you’ re told to go to a safer place, do it right now.
A.More people were hurt and some others were missing.
B.Close all the windows and stay away from them.
