Leading-in
Step1 Lead in
1. T shows some pictures of ancient Chinese art works and appreciate them by asking:
Have you ever seen these art works before?
Where did you see them?
What do you know about them?
2. T presents the task for this class: Some of these famous Chinese art works will be displayed in Shandong Museum. Our school is going to organize the students to visit it. And now you need to write an art exhibition announcement for it.
3. After making the task clear, the teacher can lead Ss think: What should be in an exhibition announcement?
Ss may brainstorm some key words like:
Time, address, content, price, transportation and so on.
Then T can lead in the reading activity by saying:Before writing, let’s read an introduction to an exhibition and learn from it!
Reading
Step 2 Read for structure
1. T asks Ss to read the text quickly and try to draw the structure of it and summarize the main idea of each part.
2. Ss can share what they have found by presenting their structure on the blackboard.
Step 3 Read for details
1. T asks Ss to read the text carefully and find the details with the mind map below.
2. Check the answers.

1. T asks Ss to read the passage once again and list expressions and sentences that describe the exhibition or the items in it or the items’ artists.
2. Ss can share what they found orally and then try to recite those the teacher have found.

Step 5 Summarize the frame and tips
T asks Ss to summarize what should be in an art announcement and draw a mind map about it to be prepared for the following writing activity.
Step 6 Writing
1. T presents the task again and give out the some basic information about the exhibition:
Task: Write an announcement for the trip to the art exhibition in Shandong Museum.
Basic Information:
Theme: The Evolution of Rites in the East
Date: Starts from March 21st, 2024
Opening hours:
A.M. 9:00-P.M. 5:00 (closed on Mondays)
Place: Hall 3 Shandong Museum
Highlights:
· Yue-ceremonial Axe with Yachou Emblem
· Calligraphy of Semi-cursive Script
· Red Color Zoomorphic Pot
2. Some background information about the highlights in the exhibition are also provided for the Ss.
T presents the basic structure and beginning of an art announcement. Ss can draft their announcement with them independently.

Exchange drafts with a partner. Use the checklist to help your partner revise his/her draft.
· Is the announcement clear and to the point?
· Is all the necessary information about the exhibition and the trip included?
· Does the writer use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling?
After this T can invite some students to read their revised draft loudly in the class.

Hello,everyone!We will go to see an exhibition “The Evolution of Rites in the East” next Sunday.The exhibition is about some pottery, bronze, jade, Chinese paintings and calligraphy in ancient Shandong by several famous painters.
The highlight of this exhibition is one representative pot of Dawenkou Culture named “Red Color Zoomorphic Pot”. It is a water vessel or food container in Neolithic. Its skillful design and beautiful modeling make it a wonderful fine art production. Also of primary note is “Yue-ceremonial Axe with Yachou Emblem”, a bronze from Shan dynasty. It symbolizes political authority in early China. While created more than 2000 years ago, the inscription “ Ya Chou” can be seen clearly. We will also enjoy some calligraphy and paintings,which are also of high rank.
Not only will no one be admitted into the exhibition after 5:00 pm but also no photos or food and drink are allowed in the museum. To guarantee to get there as scheduled,please wait at the school gate at 7∶00 am next Sunday. Have fun!

T invites the class to summarize what they have learned.
Ss review the content of this class and do their best to consolidate what they have learned.
T draws Ss’ attention back to the learning aims and see whether those aims have been achieved or not. Ss can assess themselves according to the chart.
