(24-25高一上·广东清远·期中)Are you preparing for a big test? If so, you may want to play some basketball in between hitting the books. Doctors are starting to find more and more information that suggests a connection between exercise and brain development. Judy Cameron, a scientist at Oregon Health and Science University, studies brain development. According to her research, it seems that exercise can make blood vessels (血管) , including those in the brain, stronger and more fully developed. Dr Cameron claims this allows people who exercise to concentrate better. She says, “While we already know that exercise is good for the heart, exercise can really cause physical changes in the brain.”
The effects of exercise on brain development can even be seen in babies. Babies who do activities that require a lot of movement and physical activity show greater brain development than babies who are less physically active. With babies, even a little movement can show big results.
Older people can beef up their brain as well. Scientists from 11 universities studied a group of seniors aged from 70 to 79. Their study showed a short-term memory increase of up to 40 percent after exercising just three hours a week. The exercise does not have to be very difficult, but it does have to increase the heart rate. Also, just like the motion for babies, exercise for seniors should involve some complexity (复杂). Learning some new skills or motions, such as with yoga or Tai Ji, helps open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time.
For most people, any type of physical activity that increases the heart rate is helpful. The main goal is to increase the brain’s flow of blood. And your brain can benefit from as little as three hours of exercise a week.

(24-25高一上·重庆·期中)When Simon Cane was in the second grade, he began learning about all the ways humans have an impact (影响) on the environment and really used those classroom lessons every day in a way that made him different from his schoolmates at school, P. S.81, in the Bronx. “He told me we drove too much and made too much pollution,” his dad, Jonathan Cane, told Runner’s World. So Simon persuaded his parents to start hanging their clothes to dry, taking the stairs instead of elevators, and other “green” measures.
“For much of kindergarten and first grade I rode my bike to Simon’s school with him on the back,” Jonathan said. “We had a lot of fun being outdoors. We’d stop to give our dog treats and generally enjoyed it.” As Simon got bigger, though, it wasn’t practical for him to ride on his father’s back, but it also didn’t make sense to ride together - both because of safety concerns and because there was no place to put away Simon’s bike. So, most of the time they drove the 1.5 miles to school.
But in 2019, when Simon was going into third grade, the 8-year-old came up with a new way to help the planet: running the 1.5 miles to P. S.81. And Jonathan· promised his son he’d join him for as long as he wanted.
“We did a test run one day in August, and decided to give it a go. To be honest, I thought he’d hold back when it got really cold or rainy, but he never did,” Jonathan said. He recalled one day when the weather was particularly bad. “It’s really raining out there today,” he told Simon. “And Simon said, ‘Well then we’re going to get wet!’ He took pride in braving it, and it became a really fun family routine.”
Since the start, Simon has run with his dad and their black dog, Lola, and has even inspired his mom, Nicole Sin Quee, to join in. They soon became known as “the family that run to school”.

(24-25高一上·陕西渭南·阶段练习)If you are planning on travelling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and double-check departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane would leave at 10:50. Surprisingly, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. “Listen! I only take real money!” the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travelled in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.

A.asked the driver to give him a free ride B.offered to pay in pounds
C.gave the driver some fake (假的) money D.tried to pay by credit card
3.Generally, in May the weather in London is ________.
A.warm and dry B.cold and dry
C.hot and wet D.cool and rainy
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.How to make life easier. B.How to be well prepared for a trip.
C.How to enjoy ourselves on a trip. D.How to schedule our trip.

(24-25高一上·江苏连云港·期中)Several months ago, I worked as a volunteer in an amateur (业余的) tennis tournament (锦标赛) called Tennis 123. One afternoon, I watched a match between a 5-year-old girl and a9-year-old boy. Wang Jun, the founder of Tennis 123, told me that the 5-year-old was the youngest player in the tournament.
Tennis 123 has no age requirement and players compete according to their level from 2.0 to 5.0. But surprisingly, the younger players often beat the older ones.
In the end, the 5-year-old lost the match 0-4. She threw her racket (球拍) meters away and cried terribly for a long time. During the match, she often looked to her mother for help. I checked the girl’s previous results: she had lost 24 matches straight. That afternoon only brought two more losses, including the one with the boy I saw.
When a player’s win ratio (比率) drops below a certain number, they will be placed at a lower level. In the girl’s case, she was already at 2.0, the lowest level, so she had nowhere else to be placed. I discussed with Wang the possibility of improving the tournament rules to better protect these very young kids.
Wang told me that the tournament has matches for beginners, young children, and those who have never won a game before. However, the girl’s parents, both retired athletes themselves, believed that she should stay at the 2.0 level as the girl’s physical condition was quite good.
Still, I disagreed. I worried that continuing to play like this would hurt the girl’s confidence in the court and in her future life. I remember when I played at the 3.0 level two years ago and lost so many times that I went back to 2.5 — it was very frustrating (令人沮丧的). So I don’t think it’s a good idea to put so much pressure on children at such a young age.
Losing can be lonely, whether in tennis or in life. But losing is part of the path toward winning one day. By giving them better support, we can make sure young people grow up with confidence.
1.Why does the author mention the 5-year-old losing the match?
A.To explain the young players should be placed at a higher level.
B.To show the tournament rules should be improved for better support.
C.To show the players often lose the game because of their less experience.
D.To prove the surprising fact that the older players often beat the young ones.
2.What is the author’s attitude toward the girl’s losing in the tournament?
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Concerned. D.Unclear.
3.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Losing will damage one’s confidence in winning.
B.Losing will bring about one’s low confidence in life.
C.Winning is always walking with losing side by side.
D.Winning can often go through the process of losing.
4.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.Tennis match’s popularity among children.
B.Tennis match’s influence on children’s mental health.

(24-25高一上·陕西榆林·阶段练习)The Chinese dragon, also known as the “loong”, standing for strength, fearlessness and kindness, is a cultural symbol for good business, rich harvests and good health. Unlike the European dragons, the Chinese dragons don’t give out fire. Instead, they are often connected with water. The Year of the Dragon brought extra joy to the worldwide Spring Festival celebrations from Zurich to Addis Ababa, firing interest in Chinese customs and history.
In Zurich, Switzerland, Michael Hitz, a local people, tasted 40 types of Chinese dishes at a festival organized by Chinese Traditional Culture Association of Zurich for the Year of Dragon, offering a rich food cultural experience to the community.
Similarly, in Harare, Zimbabwe, the China- Zimbabwe Friendship High School hosted lively local dances and drum performances to welcome the Year of the Dragon. At the same time, the students enjoyed Chinese martial arts inspired by a performance from the Henan Provincial Shaolin Wushu Training Center. Brenda Moyo, a local student, found the martial arts challenging yet wonderful.
An acrobatics (杂技) performance in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, enjoyed by Temesgen Yitayew, a student learning Chinese, showed how the friendship between China and Ethiopia was growing stronger. (24-25高一上·甘肃兰州·阶段练习)Millions of people around the world, including nearly 60% of Americans, Australians and Europeans, participate in sports.
Lack of physical activity is estimated to cause more than 5 million early deaths a year. To reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes (糖尿病), cancer and a number of other diseases, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends adults and older people engage in physical activity for at least 150 minutes a week. Adults participating in a high overall level of sports and exercise are at 34% lower risk of death than those who never or rarely engage in such activities.
But does it make a difference which physical activities we do?
To strengthen the evidence on health benefits of six common sport disciplines—aerobics (有氧运动), cycling, football, racquet (球拍) sports, running and swimming --we recently analyzed data from 80,306 British adults. The study found 27%, 15%, 47% and 28% reduced risk of death for participants in aerobics, cycling, racquet sports and swimming.
Although we observed reductions in the risk of death associated with football and running (18% and 13%) in our study sample, the data did not allow us to draw conclusions about these effects across the whole population. These associations should not be misunderstood as “no association” or “evidence of no effect”. We simply do not know whether the observed effects in the sample occurred by chance alone or reflect the true effects in the population.
It may take decades until we reach definite conclusions about health outcomes of all types of sports. Should you in the meantime sit in front of the TV and wait for researchers to announce the final results? No! Follow your preferences and select an affordable and easily accessible sporting activity you enjoy doing, while trying to reduce the risk of injury.

A.Football and running had no effect.
B.Running is the best form of exercise.
C.Racquet sports are the most effective in reducing the risk of death.

(24-25高一上·湖北襄阳·期中)The U.S. Open is in full swing — Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka, and Novak Djokovic are among the tennis stars on the stadiums. Tennis has steadily grown in popularity in the last few years. Playing tennis may help you live longer compared to other sports.
The Copenhagen City Heart Study, which followed over 8,500 people for 25 years, found tennis players have a better chance of living longer than those who engaged in badminton, soccer, cycling, swimming and jogging. The study projects that people who love playing tennis will live an average of 9.7 years longer than they would have otherwise. Similarly, in a 2020 study published in the International Journal of Exercise Science, tennis players who play at least twice a week were less likely to get fat, felt more energetic and had better overall health.
The benefits are largely due to its influence on heart health. Playing tennis three hours a week can cut down your risk of heart disease by over 50%, according to the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Additionally, a British study found racket sports, as compared to football, cycling, and running, were uniquely associated with a lower risk for death rate.
While playing tennis, you have to hold your racket(球拍) firmly, always pay attention to the opponent’s ball and then swing your racket with all your strength, which greatly keeps your brain active and improves your balance. Especially when you age, such exercise will stop muscle loss and support bone health, lowering the risk of injuries and falls.
Beyond physical fitness, tennis offers significant social benefits. Compared to going to the gym by yourself, running outside, or swimming (which are still all good forms of exercise!), tennis requires you to communicate with others. For older adults who are easier to suffer loneliness, tennis can bring different groups of people together through exercising in community. Maintaining strong social networks also helps prevent mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, helping people feel happier into older age.
If this is music to your ears, you’re in luck, because tennis is popular among all ages and skill levels. So, it may just be the time to dust off your racket.

C.More people like to engage in badminton, soccer, cycling, swimming and jogging.
D.People who love playing tennis will live an average of 9.7 years shorter than others.
3.Which of the following is NOT a benefit of playing tennis?
A.Sharpen your brain. B.Make more friends.
C.Reduce the risk of heart disease. D.Increase muscle loss.

(24-25高一上·湖北襄阳·期中)“Gluten free (无麸质), lactose free, vegan...” These ideas on diet might sound unfamiliar to many in China. That’s why Wang Jiaqi, a 16-year-old girl from Beijing, opened a special ice cream store called EIS Engelchen in Beijing’s Sanlitun, to spread a healthier way to enjoy ice cream.
“My friends and I love ice cream, but we’ve never encountered an ice cream that really ‘wows’ us,” Wang said. Then one day she heard her mom say that she had the best ice cream of her life at a café in a little town in Germany. “I immediately wanted to go there and try it for myself,” she added.
Lucky for her, during her summer holiday, Wang was able to go to the town and work as a waitress in the café selling ice cream. “I not only got to taste it myself, but also learned about the healthy idea. In China, where many people are lactose intolerant (乳糖不耐受) or vegan, finding suitable ice cream is challenging due to the common use of milk and eggs.” So, Wang decided to bring this ice cream back to China to be enjoyed by even more people.
At the time, the brand was only sold to cafés and hotels in Germany. But after discussions with the brand’s management, Wang not only gained the right to sell the ice cream but also opened the first physical EIS Engelchen store–all the way away in China.
Wang believes that starting a business begins with something small and is a step-by-step process. “When I was in primary school, I sold products like cookies made by myself among students,” Wang said. “I think business is about noticing problems around you and working out ways to solve them.”

(24-25高一上·云南红河·阶段练习)William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋) — these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family.
Most of their trips seem far from relaxing — cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow was an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.”
However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.
Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.

3.What problem does the family meet when traveling?
A.They have scheduling conflicts. B.They suffer from a tight budget
C.They are faced with language barriers. D.They hold different educational ideas.
4.Which statement may Lindesay agree with according to the text?
A.Nothing is so necessary for travelers as languages.
B.There is no royal road to learning.
C.Actions speak louder than words.
D.Man who travels far knows more.

(24-25高一上·天津和平·期中)Travel is sometimes inconvenient and impossible for some people. However, museums around the world are digitalizing (使数字化) their collections, enabling people to tour the museums from afar.
The British Museum, London
The British Museum contains objects from around the world, including the Rosetta Stone, with three versions of a text that helped researchers learn to read ancient Egyptian (古埃及语). The Great Court’s ceiling, in the middle of the museum, is composed of 3212 pieces of glass, none of which are alike. The virtual tour of the museum offers a 360-degree view of the room, allowing visitors to look at every piece.
The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County
This museum, with locations in two different places, features art going back to The Neolithic Period. Its virtual tour, accessible through Google Arts & Culture, offers views of more recent works, including some by Van Gogh and Renoir. (24-25高一上·四川成都·期中)To help out important insects like bees and butterflies, bus stops across UK are getting living roofs. Small gardens on bus shelter roofs are being planted with flowers chosen to help support the struggling insects.
Humans depend on bees and other “pollinators (授粉者)” like butterflies to help grow plants, such as flowers and trees. But with humans taking over more and more land for cities, roads and farms, more natural areas have disappeared. The Wildlife Trusts, a group which works to protect wildlife in the UK, says that the insect numbers there have dropped by 50% since 1970. Bee bus stops are a small step toward supporting these important insects.
The advertising company Clear Channel is working with The Wildlife Trusts and city governments to set up bee bus stops in cities across the UK. Bee bus stops are like ordinary bus shelters, but small gardens have been added to the roofs to attract bees and butterflies. The company plans to set up 1,000 bee bus stops in the UK.
Clear Channel already has bee bus stop programs in several countries in Europe. In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht has 300 bee bus stops. Research shows that these bus stops— along with many other steps taken to support pollinators — may be helping. After decades of dropping numbers, bee populations in the Netherlands seem to have become more stable over the last few years.
The little gardens can also help to slightly lower city temperatures. Even though the bus shelter gardens are small, together they add up to a much larger area. Thirzah McSherry, who works for The Wildlife Trusts, says, “We’re living through a nature and climate crisis and we need to use every tool we’ve got to deal with it.”
1.Why are bee bus stop gardens being built in the UK?
A.To beautify the city.

2.What leads to the insect numbers dropping sharply in England?
A.Losses of forests. B.Climate changes.
C.Human activities. D.Natural disasters.
3.How does the author show the positive effect of the bee bus stop programs?
A.By analyzing the data. B.By making a comparison.
C.By giving examples. D.By doing an experiment.
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.UK is building more bee bus stops.
B.The city environment is getting worse.
C.City should build more gardens for the insects.
D.The bee bus stop is the best way to save the city.

(24-25高一上·福建龙岩·期中)Are you looking for some excitement in your life? How about trying a new hobby that gets your heart racing?
You might enjoy running, right? Well, then you’ re already on the right track to becoming a trail runner(越野跑选手). It is not so hard as you think. All you need to do is just taking your runs off the pavement(人行道)and explore some hilly or mountainous trails. Trail running has gained popularity in recent years and offers a great way to connect with nature while getting a challenging workout.
Not adventurous enough for you? How about trying rock climbing? Climbers climb walls or natural rock formations, using their strength and problem-solving skills. There’s no age limit for this sport, and it can be a great way to build confidence and overcome fears. For example, Sarah, a young girl from a small town, started rock climbing at the age of 12 and has since fallen in love with the sport. She says. “Every time I reach the top of a climb, I feel a sense of success that’s hard to describe.”
Some people take their adventures to even greater heights by trying wingsuit flying. In this extreme sport, participants(参与者)wear a special suit that allows them to fly through the air like a bird. It requires a lot of training and courage, as there are significant risks involved. However, for those who show interest in it, there is no feeling like flying freely.

(24-25高一上·山东青岛·期中)Scientists have discovered that climate change is killing the scent(香味)of flowers and their scent may be lost forever. Climate change is also the reason Kuala Lumpur City Hall is turning to trees, because flowers have been dying fast. It was getting too costly to beautify the city. City Hall would continue to plant trees more suited for breathing in the increasing pollution and dealing with global warming. Dr. Abdul Latif Mohamad, a professor at University Kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM), said genetically modified(转基因)flowers might be the way out.
Latif said UKM might have offered reasons as to why some insects were not spreading flower seeds, which was caused by the missing “scent track” due to global warming. “The scent producing chemical mixture in flowers dry up faster now compared with before.” The only way out, he said, was to genetically modify the flowers so that the effects would not be everlasting and the future generation would enjoy nature’s beauty. “The act is almost like producing oils from flowers. Scientists add on certain chemicals for stronger scent.” He said scents in flowers last longer in colder climates as plants can hold on to their oils longer.
“But locally, we fear the scent might be lost forever,” said Latif. With flowers sending forth less scent, the insects and butterflies are travelling further and longer to get nectar(花蜜). Birds and insects were heading towards hilly areas and deeper into the places where the weather is cooler. Upon research, Latif’s team also discovered that the flowers were no longer pollinated(授粉)after dust blocked the growth of stigmas(柱头).
Latif said Malaysians could no longer depend on nature to get better by itself without the help of science, and needed to follow in the footsteps of Europe and the United States, which have poured millions in the research of genetically modified seeds.

(24-25高一上·辽宁·阶段练习)American farmers are using an ancient tree from India to produce beans for making protein- rich foods and biofuels (生物燃料) . The tree is called Pongamia (水黄皮) .
Farmers in the southern state of Florida have found Pongamia trees grow well there too. They have now replaced citrus (柑橘) trees, which have long faced major struggles with disease.
Pongamia trees like hot temperatures and can survive in dry or rainy conditions. They also do not require special chemicals to kill insects and other life that might threaten growth. Climate and disease have little effect on Pongamia trees. They are so strong that they can survive in the terrible situations even without much care.
Pongamia trees can produce small brown beans. The beans can be used in the production of several products, including cooking oil and protein- rich foods. The beans can also be used to produce a kind of biofuel, mostly for airplanes.
Unlike oranges and other citrus fruits, the beans do not require much effort to pick. Instead, they can be collected with a machine that shakes the trees to make them fall to the ground. A San Francisco- based company has invented a process that removes something from the beans that gives them a bad taste, allowing the beans to be used for food production.
Experts said that turning the wild trees into an agricultural success story was not easy. There are no books to read on the subject, and no one else has ever tried it. John Olson is a Florida farmer who replaced his citrus trees with 87 hectares of Pongamia. He had little choice because, for the most part, the citrus trees died of disease, and the citrus industry has died in Florida, too. Olson said his citrus business made money throughout the 1980s and 1990s, although the farm was not large.
1.Which of the following fits Pongamia trees?
A.They suffer from disease easily.
B.They grow slowly even with much care.
C.They require special chemicals to kill insects.
D.They can survive in the bad natural environment.
2.What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us about Pongamia beans?
A.Their special taste. B.Their practical value.
C.Their production process. D.Their growing environment.
3.Which word best describes the way of collecting Pongamia beans?
A.Easy. B.Costly. C.Stupid. D.Troublesome.
4.What made John Olson give up his citrus trees?
A.The size of the farm. B.The buying price.
C.The plant disease. D.The request from the company.

(24-25高一上·广西·期中)Curling (冰壶), originating in Scotland, dates back to the early 16th century. Often referred to as “chess on ice”, it includes two teams of four players taking turns to slide (滑动) round stones on a special ice surface towards a circle that looks like a dartboard (镖靶). Called the “house”, this circle acts as a score board. The goal for each side is to get their stones closest to the center, or “button”.
A special part of the game is the use of a broom to sweep the ice in front of the sliding stone. As many viewers of curling might have noticed, in curling, players usually sweep hard while keeping up to speed with the stone thrown, and a person on the other end directing and shouting at the sweepers “HARD!” during the game. With three players taking turns throwing stones and sweeping ice, and one person, called the “skip”, often the team leader, throwing the last two stones, the whole game depends on each other to win the competition. Similar to many other sports, curling takes more interactions to win than personal ability.
Curling is often considered a gentleman’s sport because all players of the game should have good etiquette. As with many other sports, curling has rules about how to keep the respect and fun of the game for everyone. It usually starts with both teams sharing a handshake and greetings before the start of the game. Unlike other sports, each player follows the “do not disturb (打扰)” rule when the others are playing. With such a unique approach to playing a competitive sport, curling can teach both players and audiences alike the values of respect and fairness.
Curling is fresh in China, but it is quickly gaining popularity. There are professional curling venues and training bases all over the country. On the international stage, the Chinese curling team is also performing increasingly well. This has inspired more passion among Chinese people for the sport.
1.What is the function of the “house” in the curling game?
A.To make the stones slide much faster. B.To show the results of each of game.
C.To offer a place for the players to rest. D.To get the stones closest to the “button”.
2.What is the key to winning a curling game for a team according to paragraph 2?
A.Team members’ working together. B.The ability of an excellent player.
C.The sweepers’ speed to slide stones. D.The team leader’s last two stones.
3.What does the underlined word “etiquette” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Luck. B.Health. C.Manners. D.Skills.
4.Which word can best describe curling’s development in China?
A.Uncertain. B.Challenging. C.Worrying. D.Hopeful.

(24-25高一上·四川绵阳·期中)A new scientific study suggests that global warming is changing the rotation (旋转) of the Earth and is also increasing the length of day at an “unprecedented” rate. The pace of change is higher than at any point in the 20th century, they found.
Here’s what’s happening: As the planet heats up, ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are melting, and this water from the polar regions is flowing into the world’s oceans at the equator (赤道), which is changing the Earth’s shape and slowing its speed of rotation. Thus, as the Earth is turning more slowly, the days are getting longer, although only minimally, on the order of a few milliseconds a day. But it’s potentially enough to affect GPS, communications and even space travel.
This isn’t the first study to make such a claim: A 2021 study found that masses of melting ice around the world -a result of rising temperatures from the burning of fossil fuels-caused the location of the North and South Poles to move eastward since the mid-1990s.
Climate scientist Vincent Humphrey of the University of Zurich, who was not involved in the 2021 study nor the new research, previously explained how more water at the equator affects how fast the Earth spins (旋转). He compared it to a “skater spinning on the ice”. “If they hold their arms out, their spinning is slower, but if they bring them into their body, then they speed up.” The same thing happens to the Earth.
Another cause of the Earth’s rotational slowdown is tidal friction, which is caused by the moon, according to a statement from ETH Zurich. However, the new research comes to a surprising conclusion: “If humans continue to produce more greenhouse gases and the Earth warms up accordingly, this would finally have a greater influence on the Earth’s rotational speed than the effect of the moon, which has determined the increase in the length of the day for billions of years.”
1.What does the author imply in Paragraph 2?
A.Every coin has two sides. B.Facts speak louder than words.
C.A little leak will sink a great ship. D.Fear is often greater than the danger.
2.Why is Vincent Humphrey mentioned?
A.To prove his previous prediction.
B.To tell people how fast the Earth spins.
C.To make the findings more understandable.
D.To show Earth’s rotation is similar to skating.
3.What are people expected to do according to the last paragraph?
A.Take measures to reduce greenhouse gases.
B.Adapt themselves to the longer days in the future.
C.Try to decrease the effect of the moon on the Earth.
D.Find out more causes of the Earth’s rotational slowdown.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Ice Sheets Change the Earth’s Shape
B.Global Warming Makes Days Longer
C.Melting Ice Affects the Location of Poles
D.The Moon Speeds up the Earth’s Rotation

1.What do we know from paragraph 1?
A.The brain needs special mental exercise. B.The more exercise, the bigger the brain.
C.Exercise helps the brain develop better. D.Exercise makes us stronger and happier.
2.What does the underlined “beef up” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Organize. B.Improve. C.Relax. D.Rescue.
3.How can 3 hours of proper exercise a week help?
A.Lengthen the age from 70 to 79. B.Increase the heart rate of babies.
C.Benefit seniors’ short-term memory. D.Open up memory paths for students.
4.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To offer advice on how to do exercise. B.To introduce ways to change the brain.
C.To give tips on how to raise test scores. D.To encourage exercise for brain benefit.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.D

1.What makes Simon different from his classmates?
A.Washing his clothes by himself. B.Taking many classes after school.
C.Raising strange questions in class. D.Taking green measures to protect the environment.
2.How did Simon usually go to school in second grade?
A.By cycling. B.By car. C.By running. D.By school bus.
3.What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A.Simon was braver than expected. B.Simon had trouble with his eyesight.
C.Simon was really inflexible. D.Simon didn’t get support from his father.
4.What can be the best title for the text?
A.The Best Way to Go to School.
B.Boy Keeps Running to Inspire Father.
C.Father and Son Run for the Environment.
D.Three Inspiring Running Athletes to Protect the Environment.
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.C

1.When did the author arrive at the airport probably?
A.At 9:55. B.At 10:00. C.At 10:05. D.At 10:50.
2.When the author found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver, he ________.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D 4.B

C.Tennis match’s role in developing children’s physical health.
D.Tennis match’s future for developing children’s sports spirits.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D 4.B

1.How long should an adult exercise every day according to WHO?
A.At least 21 minutes. B.At least 25 minutes.
C.At least 30 minutes. D.At least 35 minutes.
2.What did the study find according to Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A.Football and running had no effect.
B.Running is the best form of exercise.
C.Racquet sports are the most effective in reducing the risk of death.
D.Aerobics is more popular than running.
3.What does the author advise us to do in the end?
A.Participate in racquet sports. B.Choose whatever sport you like.
C.Participate in running and swimming. D.Choose whatever sport that’s beneficial.
4.What would be the best title for the text?
A.The Benefits of Playing Sports B.Different People, Different Sports
C.Which Sports Are Best for Health? D.Why Do People Engage in Sports?
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.C

1.Why are the famous tennis players mentioned in paragraph 1?
A.To introduce the topic. B.To set a good example for us.
C.To show the talent of tennis players. D.To stress the importance of playing tennis.
2.What did Copenhagen City Heart Study find?
A.Tennis players who play at least twice a week are less likely to get fat.
B.People who play tennis may live longer than those who take part in other sports.
4.What does the underline part “music to your ears” mean in the last paragraph?
A.A song that you like. B.A sound that is similar to music.
C.A noise that you find annoying. D.Something you are pleased to hear about.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.D

1.How can we describe the Lindesays’ trips?
A.Pleasant. B.relaxing. C.Challenging. D.Dangerous.
2.What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A.The family must be rich enough for their global travel.
B.They arrived at their destination Moscow feeling unpleasant.
C.They spent all money on travel and expensive accommodations.
D.They crossed the city by the subway to save costs and explore local culture.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.D
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了著名长城专家和环保主义者William Lindesay和妻子Wu Qi带着孩子们在全球旅行的故事,以及他们对教育的看法。
1.推理判断题。根据第二段“Most of their trips seem far from relaxing — cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.(他们的大部分旅行似乎都远非轻松——在炎热干燥的沙漠中进行文化研究,新西兰53公里的徒步旅行,一天内爬上三座英国山顶,以及从北京到莫斯科的六天火车旅行)”可知,Lindesays的旅行充满了挑战,如在炎热干燥的沙漠中进行文化研究、长距离徒步、一天内爬多座山以及长途火车旅行等。因此,我们可以描述他们的旅行为“具有挑战性的”。故选C项。
2.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow was an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. ‘We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.’(Lindesay说,他们只是选择把钱花在旅行上,并尽可能避开昂贵的酒店和餐厅。
根据第四段“However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.( 然而,他们的旅行可能会持续数周或数月,有时与孩子们的学习不一致。Wu记得有一次Lindesay让大儿子请假,这样他们就可以去纽约进行为期45天的巡回讲座。因此,儿子错过了期末考试。这样的事情一直困扰着这个家庭)”可知,Lindesay一家的旅行时间有时与孩子们的学校学习相冲突,会导致孩子们错过考试等问题。因此,他们在旅行时遇到的问题是时间安排上的冲突。故选A项。
4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. ‘You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,’ he says.( Lindesay非常重视课外学习,他说孩子们可能在学校考试中取得好成绩,但在遥远的国度旅行,接触不同的语言、文化和政治结构,才是真正的考验。‘你只有在街上才能变得精明。你只有看到世界才能变得世故,’他说)”可知,Lindesay认为真正的考验是在外面旅行,接触不同的语言、文化和政治结构,只有看到世界才能变得世故。因此,他可能同意远行可以让人增长见识这一观点,D选项“Man who travels far knows more.(走得远的人知道得更多)”切题。故选D项。

B.To improve city farming.
C.To protect the environment.
D.To provide shelters for pollinating insects.
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.C 4.A

1.What happens to the flowers?
A.Their prices get higher.
B.They are not as sweet as before.
C.They replace trees to beautify the city.
D.They can’t survive the heavy pollution.
2.What do the underlined words “The act” in paragraph 2 refer to ?
A.To spread flower seeds. B.To find scent track.
C.To genetically modify the flowers. D.To enjoy nature’s beauty.
3.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Challenges lie ahead for local flowers.
B.Scientists’ research brings hope to flowers.
C.Insects change their habits in cold weather.
D.The heavy dust is a problem to flowers.
4.What does Latif suggest people do?
A.Follow the laws of nature.
B.Make the most of science.
C.Raise money for research.
D.Protect local environment.

C.Worrying. D.Hopeful.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了冰壶是一项起源于16世纪苏格兰的冰上运动,以其团队合作和礼仪而闻名,如今在中国越来越受欢迎。
1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Called the “house”, this circle acts as a score board. (这个圆圈被称为“圆垒”,起到计分板的作用)”可知,在冰壶比赛中“圆垒”是用来显示每场比赛的结果的。故选B项。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“With three players taking turns throwing stones and sweeping ice, and one person, called the “skip”, often the team leader, throwing the last two stones, the whole game depends on each other to win the competition. Similar to many other sports, curling takes more interactions to win than personal ability. (三名选手轮流扔冰壶和扫冰,其中一人被称为“领队”,通常是队长,扔最后两个冰壶,整个游戏就靠对方来赢得比赛。与许多其他运动一样,冰壶需要更多的互动而不是个人能力来赢得胜利)”可知,对于一个团队来说,赢得冰壶比赛的关键是团队成员的合作。故选A项。
3.词句猜测题。画线词的上文“Curling is often considered a gentleman’s sport (冰壶常被认为是绅士的运动)”提到冰壶运动讲究绅士行为,画线词的下文“As with many other sports, curling has rules about how to keep the respect and fun of the game for everyone. It usually starts with both teams sharing a handshake and greetings before the start of the game. Unlike other sports, each player follows the “do not disturb (打扰)” rule when the others are playing.
根据最后一段“Curling is fresh in China, but it is quickly gaining popularity. There are professional curling venues and training bases all over the country. On the international stage, the Chinese curling team is also performing increasingly well. This has inspired more passion among Chinese people for the sport.
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.A 4.B
根据第二段“Here’s what’s happening: As the planet heats up, ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are melting, and this water from the polar regions is flowing into the world’s oceans at the equator (赤道), which is changing the Earth’s shape and slowing its speed of rotation. Thus, as the Earth is turning more slowly, the days are getting longer, although only minimally, on the order of a few milliseconds a day. But it’s potentially enough to affect GPS, communications and even space travel.
根据倒数第二段“Climate scientist Vincent Humphrey of the University of Zurich, who was not involved in the 2021 study nor the new research, previously explained how more water at the equator affects how fast the Earth spins (旋转). He compared it to a ‘skater spinning on the ice’. ‘If they hold their arms out, their spinning is slower, but if they bring them into their body, then they speed up.’ The same thing happens to the Earth.
根据最后一段“Another cause of the Earth’s rotational slowdown is tidal friction, which is caused by the moon, according to a statement from ETH Zurich. However, the new research comes to a surprising conclusion: ‘If humans continue to produce more greenhouse gases and the Earth warms up accordingly, this would finally have a greater influence on the Earth’s rotational speed than the effect of the moon, which has determined the increase in the length of the day for billions of years.’ 故选A项。
4.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“A new scientific study suggests that global warming is changing the rotation (旋转) of the Earth and is also increasing the length of day at an ‘unprecedented’ rate. (一项新的科学研究表明,全球变暖正在改变地球的旋转,并且还以“前所未有的”速度增加白昼的长度。)”及全文内容可知,文章主要讲述了全球变暖使地球自转速度减慢,日子变长。B项“Global Warming Makes Days Longer (全球变暖使白昼变长)”最能概括全文,故选B项。
