How could Charlie Watts be best described? A. A wild singer. B. A loud singer. C. A quiet player. B 18. B 19. A 20. In rock music, we have The Beatles, Queen, The Doors, and of course, The Rolling Stones, the last of which has suffered a horrible loss, with the passing of the Stones’ drummer, Charlie Watts. As we honor this famous rock star by looking back through his life, we find quite an unfamiliar story. Before music stardom, Charlie Watts graduated from college and pursued work in illustration. He played the drums in an amateur jazz band and had no interest in rock music. However, shortly after Watts started professionally playing blues music and working full - time at an advertisement agency, his life completely changed. He met Stones’ members, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, who had a small band and were eager to persuade him to join the group. Watts almost turned down joining the group that would someday become one of the world’s most famous bands. After finally accepting, the band left their native country of England to spread their music worldwide. Through the 60 years of Watts’ being in The Rolling Stones, the band played on trucks in New York, London and Brazil. However, despite Watts’ fame, he described himself as a quiet person and never wanted media attention. This contrasted with the rest of the group, known for their loud and wild personalities. A Five Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practices to Try Traditional Chinese Medicine has been an essential part of Chinese culture for thousands of years. If you’re new to TCM, here are five popular practices you might want to explore during your stay in China. Acupuncture Acupuncture is one of the most well-known TCM practices. It involves pushing fine needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow. You likely won’t feel anything, although it may ache when the correct depth is reached. Cupping Cupping therapy (疗法) involves placing heated cups on the skin to create an effect. It’s commonly used to relieve muscle tension and remove harmful substances from your body. Cupping therapy can cause small, painless bruises (瘀血) that usually fade in a few days, which are normal. Gua sha Gua sha or scraping therapy is a technique that involves gently scraping the skin with a flat, smooth-edged tool to stimulate the flow of blood and lymph (淋巴). Distinctive red or purple spots appear on the skin surface due to scraping. Tuina, or Pressure Point Massage Tuina is a form of Chinese massage that involves various techniques such as pressing and stretching but remember that it’s not a gentle or relaxing massage. You may feel some discomfort during or after a session. Moxibustion Moxibustion involves burning dried mugwort (艾草) near the skin to warm and stimulate specific points on the body, improving circulation and boosting the immune system. It may be worth a try, but remember that it’s better to be done by a skilled professional. 21. If someone feels tense in his muscle, which practice can he turn to? A. Acupuncture. B. Cupping. C. Gua sha. D. Moxibustion. 22. How is Tuina different from other practices? A. It is painless. B. It stimulates energy flow. C. It needs various skills. D. It employs different tools. 23. What do the listed practices have in common? A. They all cause discomfort. B. They have the same function. C. They stimulate specific points on the body. D. They can improve people’s health condition. 21. B 22. C 23. It’s commonly used to relieve muscle tension and remove harmful substances from your body.(拔罐疗法涉及将加热的杯子放在皮肤上以产生效果。 根据Tuina, or Pressure Point Massage部分的“Tuina is a form of Chinese massage that involves various techniques such as pressing and stretching but remember that it’s not a gentle or relaxing massage.(推拿是一种中国式的按摩,涉及各种技术,如按压和拉伸,但要记住,它并不是一种温和或放松的按摩。)” 根据Acupuncture部分的“It involves pushing fine needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow.(它涉及将细针推入身体的特定穴位,以刺激能量流动。)”、Cupping部分的“It’s commonly used to relieve muscle tension and remove harmful substances from your body.(它通常用于缓解肌肉紧张,并从体内去除有害物质。)”、Gua sha部分的“Gua sha or scraping therapy is a technique that involves gently scraping the skin with a flat, smooth-edged tool to stimulate the flow of blood and lymph (淋巴).(刮痧或刮疗是一种技术,涉及使用扁平、边缘光滑的工具轻轻刮擦皮肤,以刺激血液和淋巴的流动。)”、Tuina, or Pressure Point Massage部分的“Tuina is a form of Chinese massage that involves various techniques such as pressing and stretching but remember that it’s not a gentle or relaxing massage.(推拿是一种中国式的按摩,涉及各种技术,如按压和拉伸,但要记住,它并不是一种温和或放松的按摩。)”和Moxibustion部分的“Moxibustion involves burning dried mugwort (艾草) near the skin to warm and stimulate specific points on the body, improving circulation and boosting the immune system.(艾灸涉及在皮肤附近燃烧干燥的艾草,以温暖和刺激身体的特定穴位,从而改善循环并增强免疫系统。)” D。 B The world was astonished on Wednesday when half of the Nobel Prize in chemistry went to US scientist David Baker for “computational protein design” and the other half to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper in London for “protein structure prediction”. There is no doubt that they have made amazing breakthroughs. The Nobel Prize committee remarked that “they broke the code for proteins’ amazing structures”. What drew global attention is the fact that both Hassabis and Jumper come from Google DeepMind, which specializes in artificial intelligence, and they created an AI model that fundamentally changes the way to study a protein’s structure. It’s remarkable that the AI model Hassabis and Jumper developed is central to understanding the structure of proteins, in which amino acids (氨基酸) are linked together in long chains and then fold in a manner that plays a decisive role in its functioning. Since the 1970s, researchers have been trying to predict protein structures from their amino acid chains so as to gain a deeper understanding of their functions, for which they even launched Critical Assessment of Structure Prediction. For long the accuracy rate of predictions was just about 40 percent, far below the required 90 percent. It was not until Hassabis and Jumper developed the AI model AlphaFold that the rate reached 60 percent, which has since got better with AlphaFold 2. By understanding the 3D structure of a protein, scientists can conclude its role and how it interacts with other molecules (分子), helping study diseases and develop new drugs. Besides, predicting protein structures helps in better understanding the origins of life, which is linked to the Nobel Prize in physiology that went to researches in mRNA. All these date back to Hassabis and Jumper’ s AlphaFold model developed years ago. Clearly, AI has helped humans by making endless computations easy, in the process speeding up studies of the protein structure. The scientists who developed it deserve the prize as more scientists will now be encouraged to study it. 24. What is the function of paragraph 1? A. To introduce the topic. B. To explain the problem. C. To describe the situation. D. To provide the background. 25. How does the author organize paragraph 3? A. By showing numbers. B. By giving a definition. C. By offering facts and truth. D. By giving examples. 26. What can we learn about Hassabis and Jumper? A. They broke the code for amino acids. B. They drew little attention to an AI model. C. They sped up studies of the diseases and drugs. D. They predicted protein structure more accurately. 27. Which best describes Hassabis and Jumper’s contributions? A. Profitable. B. Valuable. C. Unidentified. D. Impractical. A 25. C 26. D 27. 根据文章第一段“The world was astonished on Wednesday when half of the Nobel Prize in chemistry went to US scientist David Baker for “computational protein design” and the other half to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper in London for “protein structure prediction”.(周三,当诺贝尔化学奖的一半颁给了美国科学家David Baker,以表彰他在“计算蛋白质设计”方面的贡献,而另一半则颁给了伦敦的Demis Hassabis和John M. Jumper,以表彰他们在“蛋白质结构预测”方面的贡献时,全世界都为之震惊。)” 故选A。 根据文章第三段“It’s remarkable that the AI model Hassabis and Jumper developed is central to understanding the structure of proteins, in which amino acids (氨基酸) are linked together in long chains and then fold in a manner that plays a decisive role in its functioning.(值得注意的是,Hassabis和Jumper开发的AI模型对于理解蛋白质的结构至关重要,其中氨基酸连接成长链,然后以某种方式折叠,这对蛋白质的功能起着决定性的作用。)” 根据文章第四段“It was not until Hassabis and Jumper developed the AI model AlphaFold that the rate reached 60 percent, which has since got better with AlphaFold 2.(直到Hassabis和Jumper开发了AI模型AlphaFold,预测准确率才达到了60%,而后来随着AlphaFold 2的出现,准确率进一步提高。)” 根据文章最后一段“Clearly, AI has helped humans by making endless computations easy, in the process speeding up studies of the protein structure. The scientists who developed it deserve the prize as more scientists will now be encouraged to study it.(显然,人工智能通过使无尽的计算变得容易,帮助了人类,从而加快了蛋白质结构的研究。 B。 C It’s a wild world out there online, with dis-and misinformation flying around at pace. I’m aware that people’s making things up is not new. But what is new is the influence that troublemakers have. That is obvious in information gathered by the Behavioral Insights Team (BIT). The survey of 2,000 UK adults highlights how confusing the Wild West Web is at present. While 59% of those surveyed by BIT think they can find false information online, only 36% of people were confident that others could find fake news. That’s a problem for two reasons. One is our low confidence in other people’s ability to identify false stories. The other is the gap in insight between our own abilities and those of the public. I doubt that if we measured how well people distinguish disinformation from the truth, it’d be closer to the number of 36% than59%. In short, we tend to think we’re smarter than we are. Don’t believe me? For my first book, YouTubers, I authorized (授权) a survey by YouGov to see how well the public recognized major figures on the platform. The team at YouGov recommended that, I should add someone who didn’t exist among the real names to identify the percentage of people who were lying. A worrying number of people surveyed confidently said they knew the person invented by the team — and knew them well. The BIT recommended governments and social media platforms fight against mis - and disinformation. First among them is to mark false information as soon as it is found, to try and make the public aware before they share. Additionally, platforms should be stricter in how much legal but harmful content they show. Whether any of this will work is tough to say. I’ve been looking at the science alongside studies and surveys like BIT, and every positive intervention (干预) also appears to have its disadvantages. 28. What does “that” in paragraph 1 refer to? A. The wild world. B. The false information. C. The impact of misinformation. D. The information gathered by BIT. 29. Why does the author mention the survey conducted by YouGov? A. To raise our awareness of misinformation. B. To show our ability to find misinformation. C. To display our wisdom to know misinformation. D. To show we’re poor in identifying misinformation. 30. What might the author continue talking about? A. The science he will look at. B. The survey BIT will conduct lately. C. The weaknesses of positive intervention. D. His new book about misinformation. 31. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A science magazine. B. A classic novel. C. A guide plan. D. An exam paper. C 29. D 30. C 31. 根据上文“It’s a wild world out there online, with dis-and misinformation flying around at pace. I’m aware that people’s making things up is not new. But what is new is the influence that troublemakers have.(这是一个疯狂的网络世界,虚假和错误的信息飞快地飞来飞去。 根据文章第三段“A worrying number of people surveyed confidently said they knew the person invented by the team — and knew them well.(令人担忧的是,相当数量的被调查者自信地表示他们认识这个团队虚构的人,并且很了解他们)”可知,作者提到YouGov的调查是为了展示我们在识别虚假信息方面的不足。 根据文章最后一段“I’ve been looking at the science alongside studies and surveys like BIT, and every positive intervention also appears to have its disadvantages.(我一直在研究像BIT这样的科学研究和调查,而且每一种积极的干预措施似乎都有其不利之处)”可知,作者提到每一种积极的干预措施都有其不利之处。 A。 D There are over 1.3 billion people living with disabilities worldwide, representing about 16 percent of the global population, according to the UN. Despite their numbers, this group is often ignored in society. This is where the Paralympic Games (残奥会) step in — to provide a platform for people’ s support. The Paralympics is not a secondary version of the Olympics but an equal celebration of athletic excellence. Yet, despite its significance, the Paralympics struggle for media attention and audience engagement. Many media organizations, focused on making money, often choose to replay the Olympic broadcasts rather than cover the Paralympic events live. This oversight contributes to a lack of public awareness and understanding of the athletes’ training and achievements. The importance of the Paralympics extends beyond the sports field. For the over 1.3 billion people with disabilities globally, the Paralympics is a vital reminder of the need for recognition and inclusion. The Paralympics have indeed showed this powerful change. Besides, the impact of the Paralympics should not be limited to the event itself.A broader social change is needed to address the challenges faced by people with disabilities daily. This means recognizing people with disabilities not as objects of pity, but as individuals with the same right to participate fully in society. The Paralympics show the Olympic spirit. Through their influence, they challenge us to expand our understanding of beauty, ability, and inclusion. Yet, the Paralympics alone cannot achieve the social change badly needed. It is up to us to see beyond disabilities and recognize the full humanity(人性) of people with disabilities. When the society can understand and include them, the Paralympics will have completed their greatest task: Creating a world where everyone is valued and respected. May the flame of the Paralympics not only light up the stadiums but also fire up global awareness, empathy, and action toward making the world a more inclusive place for everyone. 32. What’s the current situation about the disabled? A. They are treated equally. B. They are frequently neglected. C. People solve the problems timely. D. People show too much pity on them. 33. What does the underlined word “oversight” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Ignorance. B. Judgement. C. Appeal. D. Challenge. 34. Why is it necessary to host the Paralympic Games? A. To encourage people to exercise. B. To attract people to watch the games. C. To voice people’s opinion on life value. D. To make the disabled valued and respected. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. The Paralympics benefit the world. B. The Paralympics mean more beyond sports. C. The disabled share the same right in events. D. The disabled fulfil their dreams by working hard. B 33. A 34. C 35. 根据文章第一段“Despite their numbers, this group is often ignored in society.(尽管他们数量众多,但这个群体在社会中往往被忽视。)” 根据上文“Many media organizations, focused on making money, often choose to replay the Olympic broadcasts rather than cover the Paralympic events live.(许多媒体组织为了赚钱,往往选择重播奥运会广播,而不是现场报道残奥会赛事。)” 故选A。 根据文章最后一段“When the society can understand and include them, the Paralympics will have completed their greatest task: Creating a world where everyone is valued and respected.(当社会能够理解并包容他们时,残奥会就完成了它最伟大的任务:创造一个每个人都受到重视和尊重的世界。)” 根据文章第三段“The importance of the Paralympics extends beyond the sports field.(残奥会的重要性远远超出了体育领域。)” Slovenia Green Routes (路线) is a network of multi-day cycling paths in the southeastern European country, with themes ranging from delicious food to cultural diversity. Should I do it alone or join a tour? For cyclists used to multi-day cycling journeys, these routes provide everything one might need for a trip. ____36____ Therefore, there’s enough time to enjoy the scenery along the way. What type of bike is best? Slovenia Green Routes combine a mixture of surfaces: the majority of time you’ll be on asphalt (沥青路) roads, but expect to also ride along farm roads and crowded paths. Gravel bikes combine the feel of a road bike with the toughness of a mountain bike. ____37____ Should I take my own bike? ____38____ Some cyclists won’t fly their own bike for trips less than two weeks. Eric handed him the baseball. “Here,” he said. “You can have it. I already got one.” The smile on the boy’ s face was a mile wide. Eric’ s grandparents lived near Ft. Myers, Florida, where the Boston Red Sox come in late February to prepare for the season. Later, on the way home to Grandma’ s house, Eric kept his head down. When he thought of Leo, he tried to convince his parents to stay a few more days. “Wish we could go back to the ballpark and meet Leo tomorrow,” he said. “Maybe I’d catch another ball to put with my Little League trophies (战利品).” “That’s impossible, Eric,” his dad said. “We’re flying out early tomorrow morning.” “I know, I know,” Eric said, rolling the baseball around in his hand. “I just thought you and Mom might decide to stay a few more days.” “We were lucky to get that flight!” his dad said firmly. That night, a huge snowstorm moved into the Northeast. Arriving at the airport early the next morning, they were told all flights had been cancelled for the day. On the drive back to his grandparents’ house, it was obvious to Eric that his dad was upset. B The world was astonished on Wednesday when half of the Nobel Prize in chemistry went to US scientist David Baker for “computational protein design” and the other half to Demis Hassabis and John M. C It’s a wild world out there online, with dis-and misinformation flying around at pace. D There are over 1.3 billion people living with disabilities worldwide, representing about 16 percent of the global population, according to the UN. Slovenia Green Routes (路线) is a network of multi-day cycling paths in the southeastern European country, with themes ranging from delicious food to cultural diversity. And he was ready for it. Without taking his eyes off the ball, he reached up and pulled it out of the air. “I caught it!” he shouted to his dad and his grandpa. “I caught it with my bare hands!” “Nice catch!” Eric turned around and saw a small boy in a wheelchair. Eric handed him the baseball. “Here,” he said. “You can have it. I already got one.” The smile on the boy’ s face was a mile wide. Eric knew the boy’s name, Leo, and asked his phone number for another meeting. It was opening day of spring training and they had come out to the ball field to watch the Red Sox play. But when at Grandparents’ house, Eric’s dad began to joke about the canceled flight. “Another day in sunny Florida isn’t so bad,” he said. “I’m in no hurry to get back home, where my car’s probably buried in snow.” Grandpa suggested going out to the ball field again and they all agreed. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Eric could never forget the happy look on Leo’s face. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
