巴蜀中学2025届高考适应性月考卷 "ASHLEY!OUR SANDY is singing again!” Kayla, our star, was rehearsing(排练)“Tomorrow" when Baily, our dog, decided it was his moment to shine. His ear-splitting a-roooo echoed Kayla's emotional high notes. “ Knock it off!" Kayla shouted at the dog. She motioned for the orchestra to stop. "This isn't working! I can't sing this song until we find a decent Sandy!" She stormed off the stage. Sandy was supposed lo be merely a supporting role in Tomorrow, our school's musical about an orphan and the stray ( 流浪) dog she rescued. But Baily clearly thought otherwise. He was our third Sandy, but I knew he would not be the last. The first Sandy we hired barked at everyone. The second Sandy would run wildly around the stage knocking down props (道具) and turning the set into a mess. Mr. Loomis, our director, was very close to just getting a stuffed animal or an actor in a dog suit. “Ashley, can you find another dog by Monday?" Mr. Loomis asked. “Sure," I said, feeling a bit overwhelmed. Being the assistant stage manager, I never imagined that finding the perfect dog would be so hard. We needed a dog with a winning personality and, ideally, some of Kayla's star qualities -a dog that looked beautiful and confident on stage. After rehearsal, our assistant director suggested that I speak to his neighbour, Mrs. Kelly, who ran the local animal shelter. Desperate, l agreed to at least take a look. I'd avoided the shelter so far because we needed a star, not a sad rescue case. We walked to Mrs. Kelly's house. Once there, she greeted us with a huge smile and introduced us to Farley, a calm, friendly dog that used to work part-time at an airport comforting nervous passengers before being hit by a car. Farley's soulful eyes and striking black-and-white fur seemed like the perfect combination -just what we needed for Sandy. As /looked closer, however, | noticed that Farley was missing a leg.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Surprisingly, Mr, Loomis said that Farley was going to be fantastic onstage.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 续写分析 1. As I looked closer, however, I noticed that Farley was missing a leg. My heart sank. How could a three-legged dog possibly manage the demands of the stage? I voiced my concerns to Mrs. Kelly, who assured me that Farley was surprisingly agile. She demonstrated by tossing a ball, and Farley bounded after it with remarkable speed and balance, his one hind leg hardly seeming to hold him back. Surprisingly, Mr. Loomis said that Farley was going to be fantastic onstage. He explained that Farley's unique story and appearance would add a touching and memorable element to the musical. The cast and crew were initially skeptical but soon warmed up to the idea as they witnessed Farley's eagerness and charm during rehearsals. Farley quickly learned his cues and interacted with Kayla as if they were long-lost friends. On opening night, when Farley made his entrance, the audience gasped in surprise and then burst into thunderous applause. His performance was not just about acting; it was a testament to the power of second chances and the ability to overcome obstacles.
