A 16th century drawing by one of the key figures of the German Renaissance has been valued in excess of $10 million after it was initially purchased at a yard sale for just $30 in 2017.According to Agnews Gallery-the London auction house(拍卖行)in possession of the artwork-Albrecht Dürer, who died in 1528, is considered as both the greatest German artist of his time and as one of the most important artists and intellectuals of the European Renaissance. The drawing that has been rediscovered is titled "The Virgin and Child”. As Dürer's career and legacy has been studied in depth since his death, it is extremely rare to find unknown works of his.
Boston-based art collector Clifford Schorer, who is a consultant to the gallery, added it was on Thursday that he came across the rare artwork, thought to have been completed in 1503,by chance on the way to a party in Massachusetts in 2019. He had forgotten to bring a gift to the party and so went to a bookstore, which sold collectable volumes. The bookseller told him his friend had a Dürer drawing and asked if he would take a look at it. Schorer agreed, but held out little hope.
The artwork had been purchased at a yard sale at the home of an architect who had been gifted the piece from his art dealer father, Schorer said. “Generally speaking, it's an inverse(反向的)relationship between how dramatic the claim is and how much of a let down it is.For example, if someone tells me they have a Leonardo da Vinci, I'm usually pretty confident I'm going to see some images that are unimpressive,” Schorer said.
But when he arrived to examine the artwork weeks later, he was taken aback by its quality.“It was like experiencing a kind of electricity. When you're in my world, you spend your life looking for unknown things that lead to fascinating research avenues... and I could see I was at the beginning of something extremely exciting,” Schorer said.
34. Why is it rare to find the unknown works of Albrecht Dürer's?
A.He was a key figure of the German Renaissance.
B.His real works were only sold at the yard sales.
C.His works were studied carefully after he died.
D.He had few works like“The Virgin and Child".
35.What did Clifford Schorer do on his way to a party?
A.He went to buy a gift.
B.He collected old volumes.
C.He went to a gallery.
D.He visited his old friends.
36.Why did Clifford Schorer mention the example of Leonardo da Vinci?
A. To show the value of Dürer’s drawings
B to describe his conflict feelings
C to improve his confidence in art
D to show the paintings is unimpressive
37 the underlined phrase “taken back” in the paragraph may mean ____________
A disappointed B shocked C discouraged D excused

Efforts to preserve the Amazon rainforest are growing ever more urgent as the ecosystem's destruction accelerates(加速).A recent study shows that a new program combining on-the-ground monitoring with satellite data and smartphone technology could help put thebrakes on Amazon deforestation (毁林) and potentially that of forests elsewhere.
The scientists cooperated with 76 local communities, 36 of which participated in using satellite-based “early deforestation alerts”, an early-alert system on a smartphone app, to watch over the forest and to inspect forests and document damage. Over the next two years the participants were paid to work as forest monitors and received monthly alerts via the app when satellite data indicated local forest losses. Monitors investigated alerts and inspected for deforestation in the areas. They reported confirmed losses back to their communities, which decided whether to deal with the affairs on their own or inform state authorities.
The researchers analyzed the same forest-loss satellite data from the given time period in all76 communities. They found the program reduced forest loss by 8.4 hectares(公顷) in the first year-a 52 percent reduction compared with the average loss in the control communities, says Tara Slough, an economist at New York University. "This reduction in deforestation was concentrated in communities facing the largest threat of forest loss," she adds.
Results for the program were less striking in its second year, when forest loss was reduced by only 3.3 hectares compared with that in control communities. The researchers explain that a Peruvian government campaign against coca planting that year may have discouraged deforestation in both experimental and control communities, narrowing differences between the two groups in the program.
Experts say this approach to dealing with Amazonian deforestation looks promising. Local groups may continue the work they started in the program. “We want to apply this in other communities. In doing so, we are making a contribution to the world," wrote Francisco,a community member involved in the research.
38.What can we learn about the new program?
A. It applies to all the forests. B. It uses multiple technologies.
C. It includes no human participation. D. It solves the problem beforehand.
39.How did the researchers conduct the study?
A. By analyzing the data.
B. By surveying the monitors.
C.By observing the area.
D.By investigating(调查)the damage.
40. What do the researchers think of the effect of the program?
A.Fixed.
B.Positive.
C.Unreliable.
D.Discouraging.
41. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Amazon Protecting the Rainforest
B. Experts Testing Early-alert System
C. Communities Dealing With Deforestation
D. Smartphone Watching Over the Forest

Discoveries at the famous Sanxingdui ruins in Southwest China show that the region's ancient Shu Kingdom civilization shared similarities with the Maya.
The Sanxingdui ruins belonged to the Shu Kingdom that existed at least 4,800 years ago and lasted more than 2,000 years, while the Mayan civilization built its city-states around 200 AD.
The bronze-made remains of trees unearthed at the ruins of the Shu Kingdom are similar to
the sacred ceiba tree, which symbolized the union of heaven, earth and the underworld in the Mayan civilization.“They are very important similarities,"says Santos,a Mexican archaeologist(考古学家), stressing that “the representations of trees in both cultures provide a symbolism that is very similar".
The findings at the Sanxingdui ruins, considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, also show a new aspect of Bronze Age culture, indicating the ancient civilization already had technologies that were thought to have been developed much later.
While the time span between the Shu Kingdom and the Mayan culture is great, the findings highlight the closeness between the two civilizations. They developed in areas with comparable climates and reflected their worldview through related symbols. “In the end, man is still man, independent of time and space. What we have is that, at this latitude(纬度), both the Shu people and the Mayans looked at the same sky and had the same stars on the horizon," the expert says.
One notable(值得注意的) feature of the recent discoveries at Sanxingdui was the cross-subject work and technology applied by teams of Chinese archaeologists, which allowed the unearthing of artifacts as fragile as silk remains, which other types of less careful digging methods would not have been able to register.
Cooperation between Chinese and Mexican archaeologists could benefit projects in the Mayan world, where the rainy climate and humidity are problematic for the careful protection of ruins.
“Every time our cultural knowledge increases, regardless of whether we speak one language or another, what it shows us is that we continue to be sister cultures and, therefore, the exchange of such knowledge is fundamental,”says Santos.
42. What is a similarity between the Shu Kingdom and Mayan civilizations?
A. Their starting time. B. Their historical origins(起源).
C.Their cultural symbols. D. Their ceremony traditions.
43.The findings at the Sanxingdui ruins have proved that _______.
A. silk was a common clothing material then
B. some technologies were developed much earlier
C.the Bronze Age started earlier than previously thought
D.the Shu Kingdom and the Mayan world had close contact
44.What is a common challenge for the protection of both ruins?
A.Wet weather. B. Positioning of ruins.
C.High latitude. D.Language barriers.
45. What is the focus of Santos' quote in the last paragraph?
A. The future of the China-Mexico cooperation.
B. The benefits of speaking a different language.
C. The importance of the exchange of cultural knowledge.
D. The increasing sisterhood in culture between China and Mexico.

Pretty, sweet, and always putting on a big smile is how those who know Wang Wanna think of her. On stage (舞台),Wang always takes on a totally different look. For a 27-year-old, half of her life has been spent singing Yueju Opera, which is the most popular opera style following Peking Opera in China. Standing on the stage, she pours herself into the stories, and also adds her own dreams and feelings to the characters she plays.
With the support of her parents, Wang left home at 13 and went to Shanghai to learn Yueju Opera. She said that she did not understand what Yueju Opera was until the second year when she watched Romance of the Westemn Chamber(西厢记),a Chineseclassic. She was deeply touched by the story. That was the moment when she fell in love with the art form she was going to devote herself to. She was trained to play the roles of young men in Yueju Opera since the very beginning and has now grown into an excellent actress in Shanghai Yueju Opera House.
Wang did a lot for Yueju Opera. On the stage, she tried her best to play a good role. "It
could be that among people who come into the theater to watch our show, many come for the first time. A small mistake made on the stage might leave them with a bad feeling of Yueju Opera," she said.
However, compared with other popular art forms such as modern drama and talk shows, Yueju Opera is still not very familiar to most people. As a result, off the stage, Wang made some videos to introduce the art of Yueju Opera to young people online. "I really hope to find a way to open a door for people of my age to fall in love with Yueju Opera," said Wang.
