E.g. 单音节:/ə/, /zed/, /sit/;双音节:/'i:zi/, /hə' ləʊ/, /'faɪə/;多音节:/'bju:tɪfl/, /ɪntə'næʃ(ə)n(ə)l/。
E.g. /l/: little /'lɪt(ə)l/ bottle /'bɒt(ə)l/
/n/: cotton /'kɒt(ə)n/ lesson /'les(ə)n/
/m/: socialism /'səʊʃəlɪz(ə)m/ symbolism /'sɪmbəlɪz(ə)m/
在重读开音节中,元音字母发字母音,a读作/eɪ/,e读作/i:/,i(y)读作/aɪ/,o读作/əʊ/,u读作/u:/或/ju:/,如late, he, tie, no, use。
在重读音节中,ar读作/ɑ:/;or 读作/ɔ:/;ir, er, ur都读作/ɜ:/,如park, horse, girl, term, burn。
在重读音节中,are读作/eə/;ere读作/ɪə/,有时也可以读作/eə/;ire读作/aɪə/;ore读作/ɔ:/(或/ɔə/);ure读作/jʊə/,有时也可以读作/ʊə/,如care, mere, there, more, fire, pure, sure。
al读作/ɔ:/,如ball;au, augh读作/ɔ:/,如cause, taught;aw读作/ɔ:/,如law;ai, ay读作/eɪ/,如wait, day;air, are读作/eə/,如air,fare。
ea 读作/i:/或/e:/,如meat, head;ee读作/i:/,如meet;ei, ie读作/i:/,如field, receive;eu读作/ju:/,如neutral;ew读作/ju:/,如new;ear读作/ɪə/,如 hear;eer读作/ɪə/,如deer。
oa读作/əʊ/,如coat;oi, oy读作/ɔɪ/,如oil, boy;oul读作/ʊ/,如could;oo读作/u:/,如 food;oor, oar读作/ɔ:/,如door, board;ou读作/aʊ/ 或者/ʌ/,如loud, touch;ough读作/ɔ:/,如bought;our读作/ɔ:/或/aʊə/,如four, our;ow读作/aʊ/或者/əʊ/,如now, show;owe, ower 读作/aʊə/,如towel, power。

如doctor→doc/tor /'dɒktə/→/'dɒk/tə/。
如 mirror→mir/ror /ˈmɪrə(r)/。
如pardon→par/don。
parents→pa/rents, during→du/ring 。
如 daughter→daugh/ter。
如 present→pre/sent,
pleasure→pleas/ure, class→class, student→stu/dent, skirt →skirt。
如:/ri'traɪ/, /hə'ləʊ/, /bɪ'haɪnd/。
如:examination /ɪgˌzæmɪ'neɪʃ(ə)n/。
如look at 读作loo/ kat。
The bi(g) bus from the fa(c)tory is full of people.
Goo(d) morning.
如:go in, go out, do it, you are, go up to等等。
前面单词以/i:/或/ɪ/结尾,后面跟元音音标开头的单词时,中间用/j/过渡,如:she is, try it 等。
(4)省略/h/。常见于him, her。如tell her,可读作tell (h)er。
常把/d/+/j/读成/dʒ/,did you连读为/dI dʒu/, would you /wu dʒu/, could you /ku dʒu/。
The girl in the re(d) coat was on a bla(ck) bike jus(t) now.
The bi(g) bus from the fa(c) tory is full of people.
Wha(t) time does he get up every morning?
This is an ol(d) pi(c)ture of a bi(g) car.
The ol(d) do(c)tor has a ca(t), too
如:great changes /greɪ(t)'tʃeɪndʒɪs/
(3)舌边爆破 爆破音/t/、/d/在/m/, /n/, /l/, /s/前面时,失去爆破,如a bi(t) louder I’(d) like to straight(t) line 。
It's difficult↘ .
Where are you going↘ ?
Don't open the door↘!
What a beautiful car↘!
Is this your book↗?
Don't worry about that↗.
I can’t wait that long↗.
Don't ↘open the door↗.
Big Mouth John Brown didn’t say a word↗?
Shall we walk↗ or go by bike↘?
If we work harder↗ , we shall be able to fulfill this plan↘.
Could you come Monday↗, Tuesday↗, or Wednesday↘?
You will go to see films↘, won't↗ you↗ ?
You will go to see films↘, won't↗ you↗ ?
There are over one thousand people in the hall↘, aren't↘there↘?
He will know better↘ when he get older↘.
The telephone rang↘, but I didn’t answer↘ it.

如:family-families; city-cities; party-parties;
scarf-scarfs/scarves handkerchief-handkerchiefs/handkerchieves
man-men woman-women tooth-teeth
foot-feet child-children goose-geese
mouse-mice ox-oxen analysis-analyses
basis-bases crisis-crises medium-media
phenomenon-phenomena bacterium-bacteria criterion-criteria
a. 切忌犯以下错误:a meat, two tea,应说a piece of meat, two cups of tea。
There is some milk in the glass.
c. 能修饰不可数名词的词有:much, a little, little, a bit, some, any, a lot of, plenty of等,以此来表示不确定的数量。如:a little milk一点牛奶,a lot of work许多工作
Would you like a cup of coffee?
I want to tell you a piece of news.
This is a famous wine(一种酒).
I work in all weathers.(各种天气情况)
What fruits are in season now?(各种种类的水果)
I can’t see any difference in them(差异).
There are many differences between English and Chinese(不同之处).
Confidence is the key to success(成功).
The party was a big success.(成功的事情)
There is not much coal left.(煤)Jack sat on a big coal.(一个煤堆)
c. 不可数名词的复数有“广大”的意思,如waters表示水域;
如:go to school 上学; have too much family家庭负担太重
A. 人名
例如Kevin Sun(孙凯文)。 May I speak to Mr. Smith? This is Prof. Boffin.
一些地名,如山脉、群岛等,常以复数形式出现,并与定冠词the连用,如 the Alps, the Rockies, the Philippines等。河流、海洋等地名也与定冠词the连用,如the Amazon, the Atlanta, the Pacific。
at Christmas/Easter Day指的是节日期间。

a. Tom’s baby
b. 主谓关系:如the Prime Minister’s arrival

d. John’s shadow (=John cast the shadow)
e. 描述关系:如teacher’s book( =book for the teacher)
f. 度量关系:如an hour’s walk
a. ’s所有格通常用于人、高级动物、国家或交通工具,如:the ship’s chimney, the glider’s wings, the train’s heating system
b. ’s所有格还常用于一些短语中,如:a stone’s throw, to one’s heart’s content
c. of短语常用于同位结构中,如the city of Shanghai
d. I took the advice of a couple I met at the party.
e. of 短语还可以用来表示无生命的名词,尤其指部分与整体的关系,如one side of the coin, the bottom of the box
Mary’s failure, the defeat of the enemy

a. at:后面可以跟时间点,如at dawn。at 后面也可以跟钟点,如at six。
注意,平时我们经常说in the morning, in the afternoon, at night等。
on a winter morning。在美国英语中,人们习惯用on the weekend;而在英国英语中,人们习惯用 at the weekend。
in后面还可以跟时间段,如in two days。
I shall come back to Shanghai in a week.
He died after three days. He died three days later.
They finished the work in five hours.
The plane takes off at 6:00, so you had better be at the airport by 5:30.
By the end of July, I’ll have read all the three novels.
e. from:通常与 to, till 或 until 连用,表示“从… Most people work from eight to five.
Let’s start now and work till dark.(我们不说to dark。)
during the Middle Ages
It snowed all Monday but stopped snowing during the night.(某个时间点)
He was ill for a week, and during that week, he did nothing.
He has been here for two weeks. He has been here since last week.
如at home, at the bus stop。
如in a country, in the room。
如on the desk。 d. over 和 above:
He put his hand above his head.(把手举过头,在头的上方, 但不一定垂直。)
He put his hand over his head.
We put a blanket over him.(把毯子盖在他身上。)
He lived over the mountain.(住在山的另一头。 )
Who can jump over the wall?(从墙的一边跳到另一边。)
I don’t want to say it over the telephone.
They had a chat over a cup of tea.(= while drinking tea)
People all over the country watched the Olympic Games on TV.
She put the letter under his pillow.
They live below us.
There is a ball under the table.(球在桌子下,空间上是垂直的关系。) There is a waterfall below the bridge.(在桥的下游。 )
He would think it beneath him to tell a lie.(= unworthy of him)
Tom is sitting opposite Mary.
或:Tom is facing Mary.
g. at a distance:表示“离开一段距离,在稍远的地方”;而in the distance表示“在远方”。就程度而言,in the distance更远,如:I saw a tree at a distance. I saw a tree in the distance.
通常,我们说 travel by car / bus / plane / train / air / ship / sea / bike 等,但是 foot 用介词 on,如:Every day I go to school on foot.此外,如果交通工具前有冠词或属格修饰,我们就不用 by,如travel in my car, ride on my bike。公共汽车的上车、下车是 get on the bus / get off the bus;我们也说 get on a horse / camel / bicycle 等;而轿车的上车、下车是 get into the car / get out of the car。
Paper is made from wood and rags.
The frame is made of iron.
We can make paper out of wood and rags.(成品 + out of +原料) We can make wood and rags into paper.(原料 + into +成品)
表示主题的介词和介词短语有about, of, on, concerning, regarding, relating to, with reference to, with regard to等,意思是“关于…”。这里,我们主要讨论 about, of和on。
We had a long talk about the current affairs.
The professor is to give us a lecture on his new theory.
He told me of his childhood experience.
表示排除意义的介词和介词短语有apart from, but, except, except for等。
Nobody but Tom knew the way.(Tom与nobody 并列。)
Nobody knew the way except Tom.(Tom 与 nobody 并列。)
The room is bare of furniture except for / apart from a few chairs. (chairs与furniture并列。)
The answer is correct apart from / except for a slight mistake.
He was a man of fine character in all points except that he was rather timid. He hasn’t changed at all except that he is no longer so talkative.
虽然besides和in addition to也可以解释为“除…
John and Mary went to the concert besides Tim.(Tim
John and Mary went to the concert except Tim.(Tim
G. for 的用法
a. This knife is for cutting bread.
b. They haven’t seen for ages.

b. He cut the cake with a knife.
He made a living by selling newspapers.
Eggs are sold by the dozen.(鸡蛋按打出售。)
I have no money with me.(= I have no money on me.)
d. I saw a girl with red hair.

It is so beautiful a flower that .../It is such a beautiful flower that...
He shut the window with such force that the glass broke.

A. and的用法
He went into the room, took off his clothes, and went to sleep.
The great scholar and poet is now talking.(指一个人)

You must return the book today, or you will be fined.
Everyone was against him, but he didn’t mind.(表示转折)

D. for 的用法

E. so 的用法

He is very popular with students, for he is a good teacher.

当“either…or…”、“neither…nor…”和“not only…but (also) …”
Not only you but also I am wrong.
Neither Tom nor I am going to attend the meeting.
Not only did he make a promise, but he kept it.(also 可以省略) Not only is it difficult, it is also impracticable.(but 可以省略)
(3)“祈使句+and…”
“祈使句+and…”

= If you work, you will achieve success.
Work hard, or you will fail.
= If you don’t work hard, you will fail. / Unless you work hard, you will fail.

I think, I guess, I suppose, I suspect, I’m afraid, if I’m not mistaken等短语使语气更加委婉和客气,如We haven’t seen each other for ten years, if I’m not mistaken.
He didn’t know it.
a. 肯定句变否定句:主语+系动词/情态动词/助动词+not(若肯定句中的谓语动词有系动词/情态动词/助动词,则直接加not 变成否定句,若谓语动词是实义动词,则加助动词,再加not),如:
I am a student--I am not a student.
I can sing-- I can not sing.
I have been to America-- I haven’t been to America.
I like to sing in my spare time--I don’t like to sing in my spare time.
a. no和not
否定词 no也可以构成否定,相当于not a或not any。所以 no 后面不能再用a或any,如:
There is no such thing as a monster in the lake.
当然,除了no, not之外,还有一些具有否定意义的副词,如barely, hardly, never, nowhere, rarely, scarcely, seldom等也可以构成否定句,如:The new couple are seldom at home.
I don't think he is right.(我认为他不对。= I think he is not right.)
I think he is not right这样的句子,而说I don't think he is right,这样可以使语气委婉些。
I thought that he had no brother.
There is no smoke without fire.(无风不起浪。)
It never rains but it pours.(不雨则已,一雨倾盆;破屋又遭连夜雨。)
No pains, no gains.(不劳无获)
There is no man in the world who does not make mistakes.(每个人都会犯错。)
Don’t just say nothing.(= Don't be silent.)
Are you a student? Yes, I am.
Do you like Shanghai? Yes, I do.
Have you a ticket?
Do you have a ticket?
Do you have a walk every day?
Doesn't he want to go?
若想说he does (want to go),则用yes,若我们想说he doesn't (want to go),则用no。
Yes, he does.(不,他想去。);No, he doesn't.(是的,他不想去。)
特殊疑问句一般以特殊疑问词who, whose, which, where, what, when, why, how, how soon, how often, how long, how far等词开头。
Who is knocking at the door?
Which one do you prefer? When shall we meet?
Is she a teacher or a doctor?
Which is bigger, the earth or the moon?
Would you like coffee or tea? —Tea, please.
Oh, you think so, do you?
I hate you. – You do, do you?
He doesn't like the song, does he?
She likes the room, doesn’t she?
Pass me the book, please.
You go out of here.
John, listen to me!
C. let
Let's go.
Let me have a look.
Don't worry.
Do be quiet.
A. what感叹句
What a happy life we are living now!
B. how感叹句
How wonderfully she plays the violin!
What fine weather! How nice!
D. 由such或so构成的感叹句
You are so hard working!
the beautiful girl in the park/standing there/to give the speech/who is smiling/slim enough
The question whether the beautiful girl is Angela Baby has an answer.
A.(动词加介词)v. + prep.,如look for
B.(动词加副词)v. + Adv.,如set up

D.(动词加副词加介词)v. + adv. + prep.,如look forward to
B. 两个或多个形容词由and, but等对等连词连接构成形容词短语,如large and beautiful, young but smart
The bottle is full of water.
He is sure to come.
F. 形容词与more, less, the most, the least一起,构成形容词短语,如the most beautiful

He is doing his work. He has just asked a question.
He asked me a question中的me,He gave her a pen中的her等。
We elect him our monitor.(宾语补足语。)
He made it his duty to take care of the baby.(宾语补足语。)

She is a nice girl.(修饰 girl)

You can put the dish here.
(8)存现句(there be句型)如: There is a tree behind the shop.
(1)一般现在时(the simple present tense)
China is a developing country.
I declare the Olympic Games open.
b. Harper passes the ball to Jennings; Jennings shoots and the goalkeeper leaps for it, but… Oh, yes, it‘s a goal.
c. Look, I take this card from the pack, and place it under the handkerchief.
There goes the bell. (= The bell is ringing.)
Shanghai lies in the east of China..
The moon turns around the earth.
Mike often goes to his office by underground.
一般现在时用于此种意义时,可以与 always, ever, frequently, hardly ever, never, occasionally, often, rarely, seldom, sometimes, usually, generally, from time to time, every day 等一些频度副词(adverb of frequency)连用。
Tom is always late for class.
He never makes any mistakes when he writes.
I have never been abroad.
Tomorrow is my birthday.
You go along the street, take the first turning on the left, walk about a hundred yards, and the Granada Cinema is on your left.
When I grow up, I will be a teacher.
a. At that moment I hear a great commotion outside. So I open the door and look out into the garden, and what do I see but a man wearing a pink skirt and a policeman‘s helmet.
b. This story is set in the autumn of 1890.
When the curtain rises, Juliet is writing at her desk. Suddenly the window opens and a masked man breaks in.
The doctor tells me that I‘ll soon be all right. )
(2) 一般过去时(the simple past tense)
She was born in 1862 .
William Shakespeare is generally regarded as the greatest writer in the English language.
一般过去时经常与just now, ago, last week/month/year, in 1980 等过去时 间状语连用,如We got to know each other in 1991.
When did you come?
She went there to see her aunt.
She went there every week to see her aunt.
Could you tell me where the nearest post office is?
She addressed and sealed the letter.
He went to bed after he finished his homework.
Before he went to bed, he finished his homework.
(3)一般将来时(the simple future tense)
英语中有多种表示将来时间的方法, 如一般将来时 will/shall do、be going to 形式、“be+ 动词不定式”形式、将来进行时 will be doing、现在进行时 be doing、 一般现在时、将来完成时 will have done 和将来完成进行时will have been doing 等。
Shall we go now?
He’ll be here at six.
When it gets warmer, the snow will start to melt.
这种用法通常由 assume, be afraid, be/feel sure, believe, dare say, doubt, expect, know, suppose, think, wonder 等动词或 perhaps, possibly, probably, surely 等副词引 出。 (I‘m sure) he won’t come.
Winter will come again.
E. 一般将来时 will/shall do 的情态意义。
I will wait for you. ) I shall be there, I promise you. ) We shall win. ) F.be going to be going to 也可以用来表示将来,如
I’m going to repair my bicycle.
be going to 与 will do 的区别
a.be going to
He will build a house. ) He is going to build a house.
b .be going to It’s going to rain. )
c.be going to 表示某事即刻就要发生, 而 will do 表示某事迟早会发生, 在时间上没有 be going to 紧迫,如
You are going to be punished. )
You will be punished one day. )
d.be going to 可以用在条件句中,而 will do 不能用在条件句中,如 If you are going to play, you had better finish your homework first.
If he will listen to me, I would like to help him. )
e.be going to 结构一般不与come 或go 连用。所以我们不说be going to come 或 be going to go,而直接说 be going 或 be coming。
G. be to do 形式
be to do 也可以用来表示将来含义,如
At what time am I to be back?
be to do 和 be about to do 的区别
You are to be back at ten.但be about to 本身就表示了不远的将来,所以无需与 immediately, soon, at once 等将来的时间状语连用。 They were about to start at once when it rained.
(4) 现在进行时(the present progressive tense)
It’s raining now.
He is teaching English and learning Spanish. )
