Lesson 23 People in My Neighbourhood 【Teaching Objectives】 By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: 1. understand the words and expressions:interview, tailor, fix, sound, enjoyable, treat; be busy doing, sound like and so on. 2.understand the passage and talk about Mr. Green and Mr. King’s daily work. 3.Use key words and phrases to say something about people’s job. 4. Discuss how to make their neighbourhood better and better. 【Important and difficult points】 1.Understand the new words and expressions, try to use these new words and expressions to describe jobs in the neighbourhood. 2.Think about and discuss what kind of jobs they want to do in the future and how to make our neighbourhood better and better. Try to explain by themselves. 【Teaching Steps】 Teacher Students Purpose Step 1 Warm up and Lead-in 1. Greet the students. Show some pictures of different jobs and introduce them 2. Ask students a few questions about the jobs. 1. Look at the pictures and tell about different jobs. 2. Have a free talk to share the ideas in the class. Prepare for the class and know some jobs (gardener,tailor,worker and so on) Step 2 Main ideas about the whole text.(1st para) Give students few minutes to read the 1st paragraph loudly, and then answer teacher’s questions. *What did brain do last year? key word: interview Finish the mind-map about the places in Let’s do it. Read the passage and think about the questions. (ask someone to give the answers.) Understand main ideas of this paragraph Besides, know about new words and key phrases. Step 3 Reading 1. Ask students to read the rest text quickly and find out the places he visited. Then circle them. Places: Tailor shop, Bakery, Grocery store, Flower shop, Bookstore, Clothing shop. Read text quickly and repeat names of places and be familiar with their pronunciations and spellings. Know about the expressions and spellings. 2.After knowing the places’ names, let students try to name their jobs. Guess and Answer. Help the students master key words about jobs. 3. Give students some questions to discuss. *What has Brian learned about the people in his neighbourhood? *How can we make a better neighbourhood?
