Georgia, who works for a popular fashion store in the UK named Bows Boutique, left her purse at a gas station after her company party in early December. She was heartbroken, but thinking someone must have taken it away, she gave up the idea of going back to look for it and didn’t phone the station to ask about it. But her tears quickly dried when an off-duty firefighter named Nyma showed up at her door.
A ring camera caught Georgia and Nyma’s exchange, and the owner of Bows Boutique posted the video on the store’s Instagram page. In it, Nyma rings her doorbell and Georgia answers it using a phone app. Nyma explained where he found the lost purse and said he decided to drive straight to her house, so she wouldn’t have to experience an extra moment of panic.
Georgia was moved to tears and kept offering to send Nyma money for his good deed, but he refused. He simply asked her to pay it forward, and explained that it was no trouble for him though Georgia knew he needed to drive hours to her house. Because she wasn’t home at the time, he left the purse in an empty garbage bag and left.
The owner and Georgia were so touched by the gesture, and they started a search for the mystery man so they could give him a proper “thank you”. Georgia uploaded the video. It didn’t take long to find him. They invited him to the store for an official meet — and he went.

With millions of riders on the road, China’s food delivery industry has long prided itself on being able to reach every corner of the country. Now, Meituan is even offering to deliver takeout to the Great Wall — dropped off not by a worker on an electric bike, but by a drone (无人机) sliding from the sky.
For the millions of tourists who visit the Great Wall each year, the drone delivery service offers a new level of convenience. Visitors can now order meals and drinks via their smartphones, with drones delivering their orders to their locations on the wall, which eliminates the need for tourists to leave their spots, allowing them to fully engage in the experience of visiting the Great Wall without interruptions.
The Great Wall drone route extends from a nearby hotel rooftop to a watchtower on the southern part of Badaling, an area previously free of commercial (商业的) facilities. “That’s where drones can help,” Yan Yan, public affairs director of Meituan’s drone business, told CCTV. “Through drones, we can make trips that take 50 minutes on foot in five minutes and deliver heat relief objects and emergency supplies to visitors.”
Once an order is received, a Meituan worker will pick it up from a nearby store and bring it to the hotel rooftop, where it will be weighed and packaged. An operator then ties the package to the drone, which will fly on autopilot to the watchtower, where another worker waits to receive it and hands it over to the customer.
The company will initially offer free delivery while it tests the service, and claims that pricing will stay similar to that of regular deliveries afterward.
Meituan’s drone delivery at the Great Wall is another example of how drone technology can be used for the last mile. The program could serve as a model for similar services in other tourist-heavy or geographically challenging locations worldwide and have a promising future.
28.What does the underlined word “eliminates” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Ignores. B.Identifies. C.Satisfies. D.Removes.
29.How does Yan Yan sound about the drone delivery?
A.Critical. B.Doubtful. C.Approving. D.Unconcerned.
30.What are the main features of Meituan’s drone delivery service at the Great Wall?
A.Convenient and innovative. B.Pricy but dependable.
C.Dangerous and time-consuming. D.Traditional but high-cost.
31.What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us?
A.How the packages are attached to the drones. B.How the drone delivery service is carried out.
C.How operators control the routes of the drones. D.How customers’ order information is received.

The danger of a major solar storm is now at its highest in over a decade As the Sun reaches the peak of its activity cycle, the odds of such a storm hitting Earth rise along with its associated risks, including blackouts, disabled satellites and damaged cell phones and GPS networks. In the most extreme scenarios, some power grids could be knocked out for weeks or even months.
But that is the worst case. In the face of such potential disaster, our best hope is to learn more about the Sun-Earth system, monitor solar activity and develop our ability to predict space weather. With the right precautions, solar activity could be a net positive for humanity, as it constantly protects us against harmful radiation from beyond the Solar System So whether we risk the dangers or reap the benefits of living with the Sun will come down to the same thing: our ability to predict and prepare for what our star is going to do next.
The whole prediction process is like forecasting normal weather the more you understand the system, the better you can predict what it will do. This is no easy task when it comes to our star. The Sun is complex and not yet well understood, and scientists must also get a better handle on how its emissions travel through space and affect Earth. Compared to forecasting the normal weather, our space weather predictions are about 50 years behind
That’s why missions like the Parker Solar Probe - the first spacecraft ever to touch the Sun-are all the more important. Launched in 2018, Parker has already made several discoveries about how the Sun transports energy outward into space. The spacecraft’s data have helped scientists improve their ability to predict exactly when an event at the Sun will later reach Earth. Establishing that timing is important, because it’s an essential first step to an early warning system that would help avoid the worst-case scenario.
Yet our current projects are not enough. Parker is not designed to act as a full-time warming system, and it can only study the Sun from one angle at a time. So a constellation of satellites around the Sun are recommended to completely monitor the Sun and always be ready to send warnings back to Earth.
32.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word!
A.obtain B.eliminate C.strengthen D.tolerate
33.Which of the following is mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.The solar system releases a lot of harmful radiation to humanity.
B.People must learn more to reverse the worst result caused by the Sun.
C.Solar activities, if dealt with properly, can be very beneficial to humanity.
D.The potential disaster can be fully prevented if we make accurate prediction.
34.What is the main message conveyed in the passage?
A.Improving space weather predictions is crucial for preparedness.
B.The Sun’s energy transport mechanisms have been fully understood.
C.The frequency of solar storms has significantly increased over the past decade.
D.A full-time warning system is the only solution to preventing solar storm impacts.
35.What will the following paragraphs probably talk about?
A.The sunny sides of space weather and solar activities
B.The drawback of the current solar prediction projects.
C.The ways to protect the Earth from potential solar storms.
D.The measures to improve and redesign the Parker Solar Probe.

One sunny day, Alex, a young boy, was walking home from school when he noticed something unusual. A small, scruffy (邋遢的) dog was sitting alone by the side of the road, its eyes full of fear and confusion. The poor dog looked lost and hungry. Alex felt a sense of empathy (同情) in his heart as he walked towards the dog slowly, offering it a piece of his sandwich.
The moment the dog cautiously took the food from his hand, Alex’s heart melted. He could see that the dog was alone and scared, and he knew he couldn’t just leave it there. Without a second thought, Alex decided to take the dog home. He carefully hid the dog in the garage, hoping his father wouldn’t find out.
For days, Alex spent all his spare time in the garage, playing with the dog. He named the dog Max, and they quickly became close friends. Their bond grew stronger day by day as they shared countless adventures together. Max brought so much joy into Alex’s life.
One day, Alex’s father discovered their secret. He was surprised and told the boy to put Max back on the street, thinking it was for the best. With a heavy heart, Alex did as he was told. He left Max at the park, hoping that someone else would find him and give him a loving home. But as he walked away, his heart ached with sadness, tears welling up in his eyes.
Alex was heartbroken. He missed Max terribly and found it hard to focus on anything else. His grades started to slip (下滑), and he became quiet and silent. M: OK. I see.

M: Yes. I’d like a double room.
W: How many nights do you plan to stay with us?
M: Three. I will be checking out on Friday morning.

W:There are two bedrooms, a large living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
M:What are you going to do to make them look nice?
W:Well, I'm going to paint the walls white, and I'm going to buy some lamps next Sunday. They're going to be pink.

M:That sounds good. I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's finished.

W: I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about my story. I’m 21 and my mum had me when she was 24. And my mum worked four jobs and completely devoted her life into making mine better. So, to me, she is the definition of a strong woman. And I love her so much, because she’s taught me those values. When I was seven, I wanted to be an actress and I wanted to live my dream. And when I was eleven, a casting director told me that I wasn’t strong enough to carry my own show. And the comment almost crushed me, but next to me there was my mum who was stronger than ever. She said the most important thing is to always trust myself. She told me to keep going, and taught me to turn the other cheek and let the critics be critics, and let us just trust ourselves. With the support of my mum, I finally realize my dream and become a real actress.

根据第二段“But that is the worst case.

根据最后一段“Yet our current projects are not enough. Parker is not designed to act as a full-time warming system, and it can only study the Sun from one angle at a time. So a constellation of satellites around the Sun are recommended to completely monitor the Sun and always be ready to send warnings back to Earth. (然而,我们目前的项目还不够。帕克号不是作为全职的太阳加热系统而设计的,而且它只能从一个角度研究太阳。因此,建议在太阳周围部署一组卫星,以便完全监测太阳,随时准备向地球发送警报。)”可知,本段讲述了帕克号的不足,接下来的一段要讲述改进和重新设计帕克太阳探测器的措施。故选D。

Exhausted but joyful, the father brought Max home. At the sight of Max, so amazed was Alex that he rushed forward, knelt down and hugged Max tight, his eyes twinkling with excitement. From then on, Max became an integral part of their family.

The days of Max’s company witnessed Alex’s heartier laughter and gradual academic progress.
