B Nick Perez and his 8-year-old daughter, Lucy Moore drove eight hours from Cecil County, Md., to Kentucky’s Cave Run Lake in hopes of catching the musky fish (梭子鱼). After nearly 10 hours in the rain, Lucy finally caught a 40-inch musky wider than any Perez had ever seen. It was all that hard work. Perez said, “There are guys I know that are 60 years old who have never caught one. And at the time she was almost 9.” Now, three years later, 12-year-old Lucy Moore has continued to be a pioneer in a sport dominated (占据) by men. This summer, Lucy became both the first female and the youngest person to receive Maryland’s Master Angler Milestone Award (奖). To receive the award, she had to catch 10 different kinds of fish — all of which had to be “trophy (奖杯) size”. But Lucy is not in it for the awards. She said her favourite part about fishing is getting to explore nature with her dad. “Fish never really live in ugly places,” Lucy said. The FishMaryland programme from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources lists more than 60 kinds of fish and the sizes they must be in order to be able to count towards receiving the award. The FishMaryland programme recognises fishers with three awards: the Angler, the Expert Angler and the Master Angler. Erik Zlokovitz, leader of the Department of Natural Resources, said, “Usually people focus on two or three kinds, and she’s got 10 that are all trophy size, so it’s doubly impressive.” The FishMaryland award programme mainly want to let locals know the state’s large biodiversity, as well as break away from invasive (入侵的) fish by encouraging people to catch and eat them. Zlokovitz said he was excited to see a young girl like Lucy like fishing because he believes she can help spread the joy of fishing to younger generations. She may encourage other young fishers and girls to join in the programme. 4. What was the main purpose of Nick Perez and his daughter’s trip to Cave Run Lake? A. To catch the musky fish. B. To explore nature together. C. To receive an award. D. To join in a fishing competition. 5. What is the requirement to win the fishing award? A. Getting over 60 kinds of fish. B. Being the first female to catch a musky. C. Catching the biggest musky within 10 hours. D. Catching 10 different trophy-sized fish. 6. What’s the main goal of the FishMaryland award programme? A. To develop the sport of fishing. B. To show the state’s biodiversity. C. To pick out successful fishers with awards. D. To encourage locals to catch and eat fish. 7. What can we know about Lucy? A. She is a gifted young fisher. B. She is only interested in catching big fish. C. She isn’t influenced by her father at all. D. She doesn’t like doing something outdoors. C The Internet has developed into a global platform (平台) connecting people worldwide. With over 7,000 languages spoken worldwide, it’s unsurprising that many languages are used on the Internet. However, English content takes up over half of all written content online, despite only around 16% of the world’s population speaking this language. According to W3Techs, the most common language on the Internet is English, about 55% of all websites. Spanish comes in second place with 5%, followed by Russian 4.9%, Japanese 3.7%, Chinese 1.5%. Why is English the main language on the Internet? Firstly, the Internet was developed in English-speaking countries, and many of the early users of the Internet were also English speakers. Secondly, the United States has been a global leader in technology and creation, which has helped make English as the Internet language. Thirdly, English is the world’s most commonly taught second language. The language used by people on the Internet has important online and offline influences. It plays an important role in determining the inclusivity (包容性) or exclusivity of the online world and can lead to the digital (数字的) divide between those who have chances to digital spaces and those who are marginalized (边缘化). As the Internet becomes more handy to people worldwide, the use of local languages is likely to increase. Technology companies are already developing tools to translate websites and social media platforms into different languages, making it easier for non-English speakers to learn information and communicate online. However, this will require more efforts in language technology and support for non-English languages. We need to see a more diverse and inclusive Internet satisfying non-English speakers’ needs in the future. What’s more, efforts to develop multilingualism (多语言) and language education can bridge the digital language divide and help more people take part in the global digital economy. 8. What percentage of the world’s population speaks English according to the text? A. 55%. B. 16%. C. 5%. D. 4.9%. 9. Why is English the main language on the Internet? A It is the easiest language to learn. B. It is the official language of the United Nations. C. It is the world’s most commonly taught first language. D. It is the language of early Internet users and technology. 10. What is the text mainly about? A. The history of the Internet’s development. B. The importance of English in global communication. C. The challenges faced by non-English speakers online. D. The language diversity on the Internet and its influences. 11. What can be learned about the future of the Internet from the last paragraph? A. The digital divide will widen further. B. More languages will be used on the Internet. C. The use of English will decrease greatly. D. All websites will be translated into one language. D Despite many public health movements to stress different problems with sugary drinks, we drink them a lot. But, not everyone consumes (消费) them. Two new studies threw light on the fact that some of us are more easily to be harmed by sugary drinks than others. Though sugary drinks are everywhere, some people find them harder to refuse and the first study, done by professor Joshua McGreen at Flinders University, decided to understand why. For the study, 128 young people aged 17 to 25 took a computer test to see how they felt about soft drinks. The study showed that the more unconscious (无意识的) good reviews people had of soft drinks, the more soft drinks they consumed. It also found that a shortage of inhibitory control (抑制控制的缺少), which is the thinking development that allows us to control our need — say, to buy a nice-tasting soft drink even though we know it’s unhealthy — was also a factor in increased consumption. A second study provides information about who is more easily influenced by the marketing plans. The study found that soft drink companies, like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, have multi-billion dollars for advertising and marketing plans. These movements are “increasingly being directed at disadvantaged groups”, including children and teenagers generally, and people living in poor neighbourhoods. Soft drinks, even “zero-sugar” ones, are high in calories, but of little nutritional (营养的) advantages. Placing a tax (税) on sweet drinks may be one way to reduce people’s consumption. McGreen also suggests that people develop strong self-control of soft drink consumption. It’s something he wants to research further. He adds, “I would also like to stop advertisements for soft drinks for sports or programmes that are attractive to children. It’s really important for athletes to stop advancing junk food and drinks.” 12. What did the first study focus on? A. The health problems caused by sugary drinks. B. The nutritional advantages of zero-sugar drinks. C. What marketing plans soft drink companies carry out. D. Why some people find sugary drinks harder to refuse. 13. What do the underlined words “disadvantaged groups” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Wealthy people. B. Children, teenagers and poor people. C. People with a weak self-control. D. People with a high level of education. 14. What is Joshua McGreen’s attitude to advertising for soft drinks? A. Supportive. B. Disagreeable. C. Unclear. D. Doubtful. 15. What’s the best title for the text? A. The Advantages of Sugary Drinks B. The Role of Advertising in Soft Drink Sales C. Factors Influencing Sugary Drink Consumption D. Marketing Plans of Soft Drink Companies Whenever people ask me how my wife and I have managed 25 Kansas summers almost entirely without air-conditioning, I like to say we do it because air-conditioning makes it too hot outside. The less you use it, the easier it is to live without it. C. We also kept other instruments turned off as much as possible. D. But this week was just the second time we’ve turned it on this year. E. And we became part of the Scottish Amateur League last year. But most of us were university students, and couldn’t commit (致力于) ourselves to football matches. After we joined the league, we lost all our matches. The most stick we got from others was not for losing, but for not always having the minimum (最少的) eleven players required. By the time we were up against AC Mill Inn in May this year, in the tenth round of the11-a-side Scottish Amateur League, we expected a difficult match. We’d lost to them 19 — 0 the week before. That’s a big loss, but we didn’t lose heart — they are a good team. The night before the match, I’d heard our goalkeeper wouldn’t be able to make it. I’m normally an outfield player, but I’d made a quiet agreement with Cammy, the manager, that I’d be the goalkeeper. The next day, we took a bus to a nice small town and arrived with 10 men. We were all ready to play. But 25 minutes before kick-off, the referee (裁判) said two of our players weren’t eligible (有资格的) as they weren’t officially signed members of our team. I knew we had a hard match ahead. It was my first match back after a foot injury. I made a few saves early on. And I made one save with my right foot — the one that had been injured — so I was struggling to move. I ended up leaving the playing field in the 60th minute. We were down to seven men. It wasn’t great, but we thought, “Let’s just see this match out.” When the time was up, the score was 51 — 0. We were unhappy, but most of the AC Mill Inn team were so supportive. They comforted us saying, “Keep going, boys, you’ll be better when you get your numbers in.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back at university, we regrouped, determined to turn our luck around. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024~2025学年度第一学期期中检测试卷 高 一 英 语 全卷满分150分 考试时间120分钟 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? 4 What was the main purpose of Nick Perez and his daughter’s trip to Cave Run Lake? A. To catch the musky fish. B. A. It is the easiest language to learn. B 9. Marketing Plans of Soft Drink Companies 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. B 15. 根据第二段中“Though sugary drinks are everywhere, some people find them harder to refuse and the first study, done by professor Joshua McGreen at Flinders University, decided to understand why. 根据画线部分的下文“including children and teenagers generally, and people living in poor neighbourhoods (包括儿童和青少年,以及生活在贫困社区的人)”可知,画线部分指的是后面提到的儿童、青少年和穷人。 根据最后一段中McGreen所说的话“I would also like to stop advertisements for soft drinks for sports or programmes that are attractive to children. 通读全文,尤其是第二段中“Though sugary drinks are everywhere, some people find them harder to refuse and the first study, done by professor Joshua McGreen at Flinders University, decided to understand why. (虽然含糖饮料无处不在,但有些人发现它们更难拒绝,弗林德斯大学的Joshua McGreen教授进行的第一项研究决定了解其中的原因)”和第三段中“A second study provides information about who is more easily influenced by the marketing plans. Whenever people ask me how my wife and I have managed 25 Kansas summers almost entirely without air-conditioning, I like to say we do it because air-conditioning makes it too hot outside. In a city like Houston, on a hot night, the air that comes out of air conditioners can make the outside temperature go up by three or four degrees. ___16___ Our bodies have grown so used to climate-controlled indoor spaces, set at a cool 21℃, that anything else can feel unbearable. As we evolved (进化), biologically and culturally, under wildly different climatic conditions, and we haven’t lost that ability to adapt (适应). Research suggests that when we spend more time in warm or hot summer weather, we can start feeling comfortable at temperatures that once felt insufferable. That’s the key to reducing dependence on air-conditioning: ___17___ Since I left home for college in the 1970s, and I’ve lived mostly without A.C. I’ll say, we run our house’s ancient central air system for two or three days each summer, usually when we have dinner guests or out-of-town visitors. ___18___ To keep us going through the rest of the summer, we depend on electric fans. They’re free of the refrigerants (制冷剂) that increase air-conditioning’s effect to global warming. ___19___ Our June electric bill informed us that we’d used 80 percent less electricity than other homes in our town with similar square footage. ___20___ Dishwashers are double trouble, putting out heat and humidity (湿度). We don’t have one. And we dry our clothes on the clothesline out back. In summer we’ll spend as many of our at-home hours as we can outdoors. A. Besides, they can save you money. B. The less you use it, the easier it is to live without it. C. We also kept other instruments turned off as much as possible. D. But this week was just the second time we’ve turned it on this year. E. Poor air conditioning systems can cause some health problems. F. At the same time, air-conditioning has changed the way most Americans experience heat. G. When we want to create a comfortable indoor environment, air conditioners play an important role. F 17. B 18. D 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 前文“In a city like Houston, on a hot night, the air that comes out of air conditioners can make the outside temperature go up by three or four degrees. (在休斯敦这样的城市,在炎热的夜晚,从空调里出来的空气可以使室外温度上升三到四度)”提到空调对室外温度的影响,后文“Our bodies have grown so used to climate-controlled indoor spaces, set at a cool 21℃, that anything else can feel unbearable. (我们的身体已经习惯了室内的温度控制,设定在凉爽的21℃,其他任何东西都让人难以忍受)”指出身体对室内温度的适应,因此F项“At the same time, air-conditioning has changed the way most Americans experience heat. 【17题详解】 前文“Research suggests that when we spend more time in warm or hot summer weather, we can start feeling comfortable at temperatures that once felt insufferable. That’s the key to reducing dependence on air-conditioning 这是减少对空调依赖的关键)”提到研究表明尽量多待在炎热环境中可以缓解对炎热的不适,因此B项“The less you use it, the easier it is to live without it. 【18题详解】 前文“I’ll say, we run our house’s ancient central air system for two or three days each summer, usually when we have dinner guests or out-of-town visitors. 【19题详解】 前文“They’re free of the refrigerants (制冷剂) that increase air-conditioning’s effect to global warming. (它们不含制冷剂,而制冷剂会增加空调对全球变暖的影响)”介绍不使用空调的好处包括减缓全球变暖,后文“Our June electric bill informed us that we’d used 80 percent less electricity than other homes in our town with similar square footage. 故选A。 【20题详解】 后文“Dishwashers are double trouble, putting out heat and humidity (湿度). We don’t have one. And we dry our clothes on the clothesline out back. In summer we’ll spend as many of our at-home hours as we can outdoors. 夏天,我们在家的时间会尽可能多地花在户外)”介绍在家中尽量少用其他电器的情况,因此C项“We also kept other instruments turned off as much as possible. I love parks. (运用了as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] We visited historical sites, museums, and universities, which broadened our horizons. I started my football team St Machar Thistle with my friends at university two years ago. They comforted us, saying, “Keep going, boys, you’ll be better when you get your numbers in.” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back at university, we regrouped, determined to turn our luck around. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: They comforted us, saying, “Keep going, boys, you’ll be better when you get your numbers in.” Their words were like a warm breeze on a cold day, instantly melting away some of the disappointment in our hearts. We were fully aware that they were a far superior team. However, their sportsmanship was truly remarkable. They didn’t mock our pitiful situation or gloat over their huge victory. Instead, they encouraged us, which made us see that in the world of sports, winning isn’t everything. There is also the beauty of mutual respect and support between opponents. Back at university, we regrouped, determined to turn our luck around. We first focused on recruiting more dedicated players. We put up posters all around the campus, highlighting the fun and camaraderie in our football team. Besides, we increased our training frequency and intensity. We analyzed our previous matches, identifying our weaknesses and working hard to improve them. Through this process, we learned that setbacks are not the end but rather a new beginning. Success doesn’t come easily; it requires perseverance and the will to keep going even in the face of overwhelming difficulties. 词汇激活 行为类 ①取笑:mock/tease/make fun of ②鼓励:encourage/inspire/motivate ③专注于:focus on/concentrate on ④突出:highlight/spotlight/underline 情绪类 ①失望:disappointment/letdown/frustration ②可怜的:pitiful/pathetic/sad 【点睛】[高分句型1] Instead, they encouraged us, which made us see that in the world of sports, winning isn’t everything.
