第三部分 阅读理解
(本部分20个小题,每小题2分,共40分)
A
Until he was about 20 years old, Benjamin Banneker had never seen a watch or clock. Born in 1731 in Maryland, USA, he worked as a farmer and lived by sunrise and sunset. He didn't need to know the exact time. One day, he saw a watch and was fascinated with it. Today, no one knows whose watch it was, but he borrowed it and studied how it worked.
Then, he built a wooden clock — America's first clock! Not only did it tell the time, but its bell rang every hour. People traveled miles to see Benjamin's clock. The clock continued to work until Benjamin's death in 1806.
Benjamin was educated at a time when few people knew how to read or write. And at the age of 22, he built a working clock without having a lesson or book on the subject. How could he do that? That was because of his love of math.
From the time he was a boy, Benjamin loved to learn, and he especially loved math. His grandmother taught him to read and write using the one book she had, the Bible. He went to school in the winters. Years later, his lifelong friend Jacob Hall recalled (回忆起) that Benjamin often stayed in the schoolhouse and lost himself in books while the other students played outdoors.

Andrea Davis Pinkney is an American writer. She has written more than 20 books, including her latest collection of poems, Martin Rising: Requiem for a King.
Reporter: What inspired ( 激 励) you to become a writer?
Andrea: When I was in second grade, my dad got me a notebook. He said if I had a thought, I could just write it down. He said it didn't have to be perfect. So that's where it started. Then, when I was in sixth grade, there was a writing competition at my school. My teacher entered me for the competition. I wrote a story about a man made of fire. It was a mess, but my story won. I felt good, and I thanked my teacher for that.
Reporter: What were some of your favorite books when you were a kid?
Andrea: One was Ezra Jack Keats's The Snowy Day. That was really the first mainstream (主流的) book to have an African-American kid as the main character. I loved Peter, and this kid looked just like me. I loved that book. It's still a favorite.
Reporter: You're both a writer and an editor (编辑). What's the difference between the two jobs?
Andrea: When I write, I'm creating what's going to go in the book. When I'm editing, I'm helping other writers say what they want to say. As an editor, I also pass messages between the writer and the illustrator (插图画家), who typically do not meet each other.
Reporter:
Andrea: Write about things that are important to you. Believe that you can do it, and don't let anybody tell you that you can't.

A. The job of an editor is very challenging.
B. The job of an editor is similar to that of a writer.
C. The writer and the illustrator should meet each other.
D. The editor is a bridge between the writer and the illustrator.
( )61. What is probably the last question the reporter asked?
A. Where do your ideas come from?
B. When do you usually write your books?
C. Can you say something about your latest book?
D. What advice do you have for kids who want to be writers?
E
Many children do housework such as washing the dishes, sweeping the floor and making the bed. In exchange, they get some money.
Paying children for housework is one of the most popular topics. Some parents think since adults are paid to do their jobs, we should pay children for everyday housework.
But some people don’t think children should get rewards (报酬) for doing housework. Susie Walton, an expert, believes that by rewarding children, parents are sending a message that work isn’t worth doing unless you get something in return. “Running any kind of housework is a team effort,”Walton said.“A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It’s important for children to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and families decide how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like what they want.”
Other people believe that getting a reward encourages children to do housework, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to get money. There are also apps that give children points and digital gifts that can be redeemed (兑现) either online or in the real world. “Our goal is to give children lawful power so they can get rewards,” says Chris Bergman.“And children need rewards to help encourage them.”
( )62. Which of the following housework is NOT mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. Washing the dishes. B. Cooking meals.
C. Sweeping the floor. D. Making the bed.
( )63. The underlined phrase“in return”in Paragraph 3 has the same meaning as “______”.
A. as a reward B. for punishment
C. on sale D. under control
( )64. What’s Walton’s idea in the passage?
A. Running exercise is a kind of team work.
B. People work to get some rewards.
C. Children have responsibilities in the house.
D. Doing the housework is only the parents’job.
( )65. According to Chris Bergman, children should be encouraged to ______.
A. do housework without rewards
B. do more housework

第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 共60分)
第一节任务型阅读(本节5个小题,每小题3分,共15分)
A recent report by the American Heart Association — a big organization that encourages adults and kids to stay healthy — found that kids 30 years ago could run faster and longer than kids today. The report found that today’s kids are 15 percent less healthy than kids from years ago. What does that mean? Let’s say you’re a 12-year-old girl. You’re not a sports superstar, but you’re pretty good — kind of average (平均的). Let’s say your mom was the same kind of kid when she was your age. Now imagine we could set up a mile race between you and your mom from 30 years ago. Wouldn’t that be cool? What wouldn’t be so cool is that the study shows your mom would probably beat you in the race by 90 seconds (秒). That’s a lot. It was the same for boys. An average boy from 30 years ago would beat an average boy today.
The scientists who did the study think there are some reasons for the big fall in fitness. First, too many of today’s kids are overweight (超重的). That makes it harder for them to run fast. Second, kids today don’t get enough exercise. Doctors say kids should get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. That’s why it is important for schools to have P.E. classes.
So what should kids do? If you don’t want your mom and dad to think they are faster than you, don’t spend a lot of time playing video games, watching TV or movies. Instead, do things that will get you up and to move.

第三节
At the age of four, Allman fell off a train and his eyes were hurt badly. Since then, he couldn’t see anything. He had a hard time before he was successful. The hardest part was to believe in himself and it had to start with the simplest things. One day a girl gave Allman a baseball. He thought she was laughing at him and he was hurt. “I can’t use this,” he said. “Take it with you and roll it around,” the girl smiled and said. Her words got into his head. “Roll it around!” By rolling the ball Allman could hear where it went. This gave him an idea to do something he never thought of: playing baseball. Years after that, he invented a successful game of baseball for the blind. They called it ground ball. From then on, Allman began to smile at life and achieved more dreams.

My favorite invention
My favorite invention is the telephone watch. It not only tells us the time, but it’s also used to make phone calls.
Why do I like it? Because sometimes we can’t hear the phone ring when we’re in a noisy place, we may miss some important calls. If we have this watch on our arm, the phone will light up and we won’t miss any calls. If we want to know how the person calling us is doing, we’ll be able to see him or her on the screen.
I think this invention has made our lives more convenient. What do you think?
