Life finds me on the Isle of Islay, Queen of the Hebrides. I am the warden (管理员) of The Oa Reserve, a 2, 100-hectare nature reserve and working farm owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
It was always a dream of mine to live in Scotland. The friendly nature of the island communities, the landscape, beautiful coastlines and — above all — the wildlife. The amazing wildlife. So, here I am: living and working on the west coast of Scotland in a dream job. But, things weren’t always this way.
My school life never really amounted to much. I didn’t go on to higher education and my early working life was sloppy (马虎的), at best. Much of this was due to my disinterest in the work I was doing. I worked in factories, shops, warehouses and even a castle. I was always unsettled and uninspired. I never knew how to channel my interest and passion for nature into a paying job. Wildlife and nature had been part of my life since my youth. I remember my childhood with great fondness: I would read bird books, doodle fact files for each species and get lost in the natural world.
In 2014, the opportunity I so desperately needed finally appeared — a paid traineeship with Durham Wildlife Trust. I was given all the basic skills and training for habitat control, wildlife surveys and ground management works. In October 2015, I became the reserve warden for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), where I stayed for just under half a decade. As happy as I was, new opportunities dared me to dream even bigger. The time had come to take my next step, to continue to grow within my career.
So, this is where I am now: living in the middle of a nature reserve, with golden eagles, red deer and hen harriers as neighbors. I feel as if I’m the luckiest man alive.
24. What does the author like the most about Scotland?

A. He changed jobs too often. B. He was not well-paid.
C. He found his jobs to be boring. D. He felt inferior to others.
26. What can be inferred about the author’s childhood?
A. He knew a lot about biology. B. He was forced to leave school early.
C. He dreamed of living in Scotland. D. He was fascinated by nature.
27. What did the author think of his work at the WWT?
A. Rewarding. B. Challenging. C. Exhausting. D. Flexible.

Booking your next vacation to space with out-of-this-world views could soon be a reality. Orbital Assembly Corporation announced two new station concepts designed with space tourism accommodations. One of the stations, called Pioneer, could orbit Earth as early as 2025.
The Gateway Foundation circulated ideas for a space hotel in 2019. The goal of the stations is to run a space business park that can serve as a home away from home with room for offices and tourists. Orbital Assembly was founded by the Gateway Foundation team as a way to help make these dreams come true.
The proposed Pioneer station can accommodate 28 people. The second station, Voyager, scheduled to open in 2027, can hold up to 400 people. “The goal has always been to make it possible for large numbers of people to live, work and thrive in space,“ says Orbital Assembly’s COO Tim Alatorre.
Both stations look like a wheel and will feature artificial gravity that allows guests to move comfortably on each station. Pioneer features five modules built around the rotating “Gravity Ring” architecture design. Tourists may still feel some weightlessness but will also be able to drink out of a cup and won’t have to be tied to a bed to sleep. The gravity works similar to how a spinning bucket pushes the water out to the sides of the bucket and stays in place, Alatorre explains. Near the middle of the station, there will be no artificial gravity, but gravity gradually increases further away from the center.
While the Pioneer station will be smaller than Voyager, guests can still shower, eat and drink sitting down in areas with gravity. Each station is furnished like luxury hotels on Earth. Voyager will feature a restaurant and suites with views of Earth.
A significant barrier to space travel is the cost. However, Orbital Assembly expects tourists to seek a trek into space as space travel eventually becomes less expensive. “We envision our Pioneer and Voyager space stations as the ultimate ecotourism destinations. Once people get to space, it will change their perspective about Earth,” Alatorre says. “Space travel is still at its early stage, and we’re excited to do our part to push it forward to help improve life on Earth.”
28. What is the goal of the Pioneer and Voyager space stations?
A. To revolutionize space travel.
B. To serve as luxury hotels in space.
C. To offer a unique and immersive experience.
D. To enable large scale living and working in space.
29 What do the Pioneer and Voyager stations have in common?
A. Open time. B. Artificial gravity.
C. Suites with views. D. Passenger capacity.
30. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. The “Gravity Ring” rotates around the station.
B. The gravity is weak in the central point of the station.
C. The “Gravity Ring” on Pioneer is identical with that on Voyager.
D. The gravity operates like a spinning bucket keeping water inside.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Overcoming the Barrier: Space Tourism Becomes Affordable
B. Space Hotels on the Horizon: Pioneer and Voyager Stations
C. The Future of Space Travel: Pioneer and Voyager Stations
D. Orbital Assembly: Space Tourism Dream Comes True
D
There is nothing quite like enjoying the sights, sounds and culture of a city while tasting a cup of coffee outdoors. But it is not that enjoyable when heat waves sweep the city. An outdoor cooling system produced by Kinonko, an Israeli (以色列的) company, began to be tested in Tel Aviv. The sweltering city is a perfect place to try the new technology.
With global warming heating up the temperature, it will soon be too hot to sit outside in cafes. While outdoor cooling systems have existed for a while, most of them use some sort of water or misting system to cool the air around them, consuming too much water and power. After two years of development, the perfect solution to the problem was found. “We have invented a new generation of air conditioner,” Kinonko CEO Leizer said.
As Leizer introduced, the energy is from the pressure created between liquid nitrogen (氮) and gas nitrogen. When liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees turns into gas, it produces a very strong pressure and the pressure is used to run a mechanical engine. It is that mechanical engine that slowly releases freezing nitrogen gas to cool down the air around it.
The technology is unique and amazing. Beyond the coolness of the concept, it also has other advantages. The work unit doesn’t need to be power-driven, and doesn’t blow out harmful warm air as it works. As for the potential price, it will probably be no more expensive than any other air conditioner. In addition, the liquid nitrogen container will need to be replaced every seven to ten days, depending on usage. This makes it an affordable option for all sorts of businesses. The cooling system is expected to be on the market in 2024.
32. What does the underlined word “sweltering” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Warm. B. Dry. C. Hot. D. Freezing.
33. What problem do the existing outdoor cooling systems have?
A. They are wasteful. B. They overheat easily.
C. They often break down. D. They are slow to cool the air.
34. What does paragraph 3 mainly explain?
A. What powers the engine. B. What turns liquid into gas.
C. How the pressure is formed. D. How the new system works.
35. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To promote a company. B. To settle an energy crisis.
C To introduce a technology. D. To market a misting system.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emily Harper sat at her desk, staring blankly at the math problems in front of her. Numbers and variables danced confusingly across the page, laughing at her every effort. At school, Emily was known for her artistic talents, but math had always been her weakness, No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t make sense of it.
Her struggles only worsened in the 10th grade. The pressure to keep up with her classmates grew, and the poor grades shook her confidence. Her parents decided to step in. “We need to find you some help,” her mother gently suggested one evening.
Then came Mr. Jenkins, a retired local teacher known for his unique teaching style. Emily was initially resistant; the idea of spending extra hours on a subject she hated seemed like a punishment. But - she unwillingly agreed, knowing something had to change.
Their first session was tense. Mr. Jenkins, sensing her frustration, didn’t dive straight into problems. Instead, he asked about her interests. When Emily spoke passionately about her painting, he smiled. “Math is like art, Emily. It has patterns and beauty if you know where to look.”
Doubtful but inspired, Emily listened as he began to explain concepts through visual examples. He used colors and shapes, turning abstract numbers into something almost tangible (有形的). For the first time, math seemed less like a foreign language and more like a puzzle waiting to be solved.
However, progress was slow. Weeks passed with, minimal improvement, and Emily’s patience wore thin. A particularly difficult quiz left her in tears, convinced she was sure to fail. Mr. Jenkins said, “Remember, Emily, every artist starts with a blank canvas. Masterpieces aren’t created overnight.”
Encouraged by his firm belief, Emily pushed on. She began to see the connections between the steps, how each solution followed a logical path. Small victories in practice problems gave her some hope. Mr. Jenkins was always there, celebrating her successes, no matter how minor.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Gradually, Emily’s confidence grew with Mr. Jenkins’ help.

W: All right. What about the ticket types?
M: There’s a standard open ticket which doesn’t have any restrictions. This can be bought in advance or on the day.
W: Are there any discounted tickets?
M: Sure. A popular one is called the super save and this is OK for travel after eight forty five p.m. Then there is the special ticket which can be used only after ten fifteen p.m.
W: I see. Thanks a lot.

29. What do the Pioneer and Voyager stations have in common?
A. Open time. B. Artificial gravity.
C. Suites with views. D. Passenger capacity.
30. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. The “Gravity Ring” rotates around the station.
B. The gravity is weak in the central point of the station.
C. The “Gravity Ring” on Pioneer is identical with that on Voyager.
D. The gravity operates like a spinning bucket keeping water inside.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Overcoming the Barrier: Space Tourism Becomes Affordable
B. Space Hotels on the Horizon: Pioneer and Voyager Stations
C. The Future of Space Travel: Pioneer and Voyager Stations
D. Orbital Assembly: Space Tourism Dream Comes True

C. To introduce a technology. D. To market a misting system.
【答案】32. C 33. A 34. D 35. C

故填on。

【答案】Dear fellow students,
As we all know, we have two days off every week this semester to ensure that we can keep a balance between study and rest. However, so addicted to computer games are some of the students that they are reduced to copying homework and being sleepy in class, which may not only hinder the progress but also lead to an unpleasant learning atmosphere.
I hereby propose we better manage our time off, finish our homework on time and get enough rest to make good preparations for the class. Of equal importance is to actively engage ourselves in class, which will help us stay focused and bring about more effective learning outcomes.
Let’s take action immediately to create a better learning atmosphere!

第二节(满分25分)
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】One possible version:
Gradually, Emily’s confidence grew with Mr. Jenkins’ help. She found herself approaching math problems with a newfound curiosity instead of anxiety. The once confusing numbers and symbols began to become patterns she could understand. Mr. Jenkins continued to teach her in his unique way. Emily started to enjoy the challenge, and her once hesitant hand now moved steadily across the paper. The joy she felt when a solution clicked into place was something she had never expected to experience with math.
Emily’s heart raced when the results day arrived. She sat in the classroom, her hands trembling slightly as she received her test paper. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she saw the grade – a solid A. Tears of relief and happiness welled up in her eyes. She looked up at Mr. Jenkins, who stood at the back of the classroom, watching her with a proud smile. In that moment, Emily knew that she had not only conquered her fear of math but also discovered the power of perseverance.
