A lot of reporters waited in the mixed zone, hoping for an interview opportunity. “I’m touched by Chusovitina’s story. She tried to save her son and just never gave up,” said Zhang Anqi, a Hangzhou local who attended the event. “I am lucky to see her here in my home city. She is beautiful both as an athlete and as a mother,” Zhang added. After completing her vault (跳马), Chusovitina blew a kiss to the audience and formed a “heart” with her hands. “It is the love and support of the people that keep me going and give me the strength to achieve more,” Chusovitina said.“I am not very satisfied with my performance tonight. However, a new study finds when people are at the peak of joy or despair, their body language is a more reliable indicator of their emotions than their face. “You can’t tell from the face alone if something good is going on or bad going on. When people see the faces alone, they’re kind of lost,” said Julliel Hievet, a psychologist at the Hebrew University. “The body maintains a clear signal of positive and negative.” Hievet also noted that most researches on reading emotions focused on the face. A few studies had shown people rely on body language to read emotions when it conflicts with someone’s facial expression, but those studies used trained actors in poses. His research team wanted to see how people use body language to read intense emotions. To do so, his team gathered dozens of images of top tennis players at the moment they won or lost critical points in competitions like the U. S. Open. They showed three groups of 15 participants images of just the face, just the body, or both together, and asked the viewers whether the images showed positive or negative emotions. People who saw the body — with or without the face — accurately distinguished whether the player was happy or distraught. Those who viewed just the faces failed to do so. The team also transformed winning faces onto losing bodies and vice versa, and found the body cues determined whether viewers thought the players had won. The findings don’t rule out the face from all emotional indicators, he said. “But when things become very intense, the good and the bad combine together, and it’s hard to tell if it’s positive or negative,” he added. Interestingly, when people saw a body and face together, they said they made judgments based on facial expression. “People use information from the body and then they read it into the face,” Hievet said. 28. What is the finding of the new study? A. You cannot tell one’s emotions from the face. B. Body can better indicate intense emotions than face. C. Facial expressions tend to be different in joy and despair. D. People thought they made accurate assessments and inferences from body language. 29. Why are other studies mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To clarify the misunderstandings of other studies. B. To assess the validity of previous studies. C. To show the limitation of existing studies. D. To prove the value of facial expression. 30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Research background. B. Research method. C. Research results. D. Research application. 31. What does the underlined word “distraught” in paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Ashamed. B. Indifferent. C. Embarrassed. D. Upset. D Landscape architect Kotchakorn Voraakhom has designed a new green roof on the Rangsit Campus of Thammasat University, about 25 miles north of central Bangkok, Thailand. Her imaginative work challenges the common thinking that urbanization has a negative impact on the planet, whether flooding, excess(过度的)energy use, disrupted biodiversity or the heat island effect. The 236,806-square-foot structure, which opened in December 2019, includes a flood water management system and Asia’s largest rooftop organic farm. It combines modern landscape architecture with traditional agricultural knowledge, creating a green and friendly environment. The green roof, containing an H-shaped landscape, looks like a futuristic hill with a brick building beneath it. The hill features a complex pattern of zigzagging terraces(之字形梯田)of planted beds, leading all the way down to the bottom. When rainwater hits the roof, it flows down the zigzags while being absorbed by the soil in the beds. The excess water is directed into four storage ponds—with a capacity of up to 3 million gallons. The process slows down the flow speed of rainwater runoff compared to a normal concrete rooftop. This keeps the area from flooding during heavy rains. The roof’s terraces are filled with organically grow n crops, including a drought tolerant variety of rice, many local vegetables and herbs. The farm can supply the canteens on campus with a large amount of rice, herbs and vegetables a year. The food waste is composted(把……制成堆肥)to make the soil of the farm richer, and water from the storage ponds is used to water plants, creating an entirely localized and circular system. The farm serves as an outdoor classroom and a source of local jobs, too. Farmers offer workshops on sustainable agriculture and nutrition as part of the university’s sustainability course. “Students and community members are invited to participate in seasonal seeding, harvesting, and soon,” says Voraakhom. “The urban farm is training a new generation of organic farmers with real-world skills. It also promotes a sense of community.” 32. What can we say about Voraakhom’s work? A. It’s creative. B. It’s demanding. C. It’s short-lived. D. It’s energy-consuming. 33. Why is the rooftop designed to be zigzag? A. To look more distinctive. B. To increase water storage. C. To plant diverse vegetables. D. To decline the flow rate of water. 34. What can be inferred about the farm from paragraph 4? A. It features recycling. B. It improves students’ lifestyle. C. It develops the most healthy crops. D. It has better outputs than other farms. 35. Why does the author talk about the outdoor classroom? A. To complain about the poor employment. B. To encourage innovation in local communities. C. To show the possibility for farmers to become professors. D. To speak favorably of the students’ access to hands-on knowledge. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Music is arguably the most life-enriching academic subject. ____36____. After work, I had to take the laptop my colleague left in my office to his house before it came. On the way to his place, I picked up two pizzas because I’d promised my kids I'd bring some home for dinner. It took me about 15 minutes to get to my colleague’s house, where I dropped off the laptop case and got right back on the road. Then the snow started and it was coming down fast. It came in fast and so windy that it screamed. The windows were fogging up and getting covered with snow. I didn’t have a clue where I was. I stopped because I was afraid of driving into a farmer's field. I called 911. The dispatcher (调度员) told me to sit tight and wait things out for the night — nobody was coming to get me until morning at the earliest. Those seconds after the call were agony. Getting out to walk in the white world with zero visibility, high winds and a low temperature wasn’t a wise option. Would the storm continue for longer than predicted or would I be found too late? My kids! It was the first time they would ever be spending a night without me at home. I was literally terrified at the scene that the snow was piled up. I stayed in the car and texted my colleague whose laptop bag I had just returned. He had an idea.“ Pin your location on Google Maps and send it to me,” he said. I did, and a few minutes later he told me that I was on a road called Bouvier Lane, in between two farms. At 6:30p. m, I posted this new information to my Facebook community group, hoping for anyone who knew who lived on the farms to help me get rescued. At 8 p. m, my cellphone rang. It was the son of the farmer who owned the land beside the road I was stranded on. He told me that his dad, Andy, was coming to get me. 注意:1. 续写词数应为 150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Later, I saw a tall figure moving toward me in the dark, carrying a flashlight and a shovel(铲子). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In Andy’s home, his wife, Maryann Bouvier, treated me to hot drinks. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2024-2025 学年云县第一完全中学上学期高二年级11 月月考卷 英语 本试卷满分150分,考试用时120分钟。 6. It reminded me of the importance of preserving our natural surroundings and the joy that comes from spending time outdoors. 第二节 (满分25分) 【67题答案】 【答案】Later, I saw a tall figure moving toward me in the dark, carrying a flashlight and a shovel (铲子). It was Andy, the farmer, who had come to rescue me from the snowstorm. Despite the fierce wind and blinding snow, he managed to reach my car. He quickly cleared a path through the snow with his shovel and guided me safely to his pickup truck. “Let’s get you warmed up,” he shouted over the howling wind. We made our way back to his farmhouse, fighting against the relentless snow. In Andy’s home, his wife, Maryann Bouvier, treated me to hot drinks. The warmth of the house and their hospitality quickly eased my worries. As I sipped the steaming cup, I felt incredibly grateful for their kindness and quick response. Maryann insisted I stay the night due to the unsafe weather conditions. The next morning, with the storm subsided, Andy drove me back to my car. I thanked them profusely and promised to return their kindness one day. That day, amidst the whiteout, I found hope and humanity in the generous spirit of Andy and Maryann. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
